@Spareincoming I can’t imagine what you’re going through, sending hugs and strength.

@LeeanneD11 I had an emc 5 days ago and I feel good, I was walking the same day, albeit in my room, the next day I walked down to the cafe in the hospital. Now I’m going for 30 min dog walks twice a day (limiting myself but I could keep going for longer) and can do pretty much everything in the house and with my toddler. The recovery was the same with my son and I think I’m lucky as all the midwives and women having had sections seem very surprised when they see me up and about.

Spareincoming · 21/11/2023 14:39

Thanks for the good wishes ladies; I was allowed to see little one at 8am; I have a very poorly baby. Lots of interventions going on. DH has been and brought us more clean clothes etc.

There’s not enough parent beds on the unit so I’m here until as late as I can be then have a bed a few minutes walk across the hospital which I feel awful about.

@Spareincoming can't imagine how difficult it must be but baby is in the best place and you will be able to take him home very soon x

Alloveragain3 · 21/11/2023 15:28

Oh @Spareincoming that's so hard on you. Little one is in the best place and we're all thinking of him xx

Taybz · 21/11/2023 15:44

Our little one came last Sunday via vbac at 41+2 a few days before a scheduled induction which I decided to refuse anyways. To anyone who's anxious about having had unsuccessful sweeps upto due date and more, don't lose hope! This was me and upto hours before delivery I was oniy 1cm despite having contractions.

@Katiec1 I felt awful after my last midwife appointment when they said that my cervix was soft but still closed. I felt like my chances of having a vbac were going down the drain but I truly believed that my body would go into labour when it was ready. This time round I didn't let the pressure of an induction and c-section get to me. I stayed strong and listened to my body. I also had acupuncture 2 days before delivery which I feel helped in addition to everything else.

Taybz · 21/11/2023 15:47

@Spareincoming I hope your little one recovers soon and that things get better for you. It's the worst feeling being separated from your newborn. Wishing you the very best x

Katiec1 · 21/11/2023 16:17

@Taybz congrats on your new arrival and hope you’re doing ok!
Thats reassuring to hear, I’ll hold onto a little hope so🤞🏼
Im just going to continue doing what I’m doing with the birthing ball, walks and baths hope for the best I suppose.

Travellingislife · 21/11/2023 17:03

@Katiec1 i was hoping for a vbac too and declined to being induced, I trusted my body to start when it was ready, labour started naturally at 41+2. It ended up with an emc ( not because I declined induction!) so I’m gutted as it’s my last but I tried anyway. You can all but try, I totally understand how you’re feeling. Would you feel comfortable postponing/ declining the c section?

Travellingislife · 21/11/2023 17:07

@Katiec1 oh and my cervix was closed the day before my contractions started, then I was only 1cm after about 12 h of regular contractions every 5-7 mins. They went to every 2-3 mins after that and I got to 8cm in an hour!! It can all go quickly when it starts so don’t loose hope!

Katiec1 · 21/11/2023 17:20

@Travellingislife as much as I’d love to hold off on section they won’t let me, they’ve told me a week max past due date 😢
it’s seems like such a silly thing to be getting upset over really but as you said all I can do is try and not loose hope.
I think my hormones are all over the place this week too as I know the end is near so that doesn’t help either ❤️

LilmissCa · 21/11/2023 20:04

@Spareincoming hope your ok. My little one had 5 days in NICU, just home on Sunday.. the first night was the absolute worst experience of my life. Having your baby taken away & you not always there is horrible.I was the same as you.. in ward a short walk away. But our hospital did allow visits anytime at all so I could go visit when I couldn't sleep, which is impossible when your baby isn't there and you can hear other babies cry.
Seeing him there then all hooked up is heart wrenching, I hope your baby js well enough that they allow you some skin to skin cuddles, really helped me the first few days.
I tried to positively focus on the treatment & round the clock care he was getting, the staff in NICU are angels on earth ❤️
I hope your little is doing ok tonight, and you are too, huge hug & love going your way

PinkPlantCase · 22/11/2023 13:19

Just had my 40 week midwife appointment at 40+2. All my appointments are with the Homebirth team and I love how little pressure there is about induction.

Today they asked if I’d be happy to go past 42 weeks and I said yes, but that I’d accept extra monitoring and that was the end of that. No mention of being ‘booked in’ 😊

Crazybrowncow · 22/11/2023 14:09

How are things @Spareincoming? Thinking of you. We were in high dependency with DC1 and can empathise with the awfulness you are going through, stay strong my love. x

Travellingislife · 22/11/2023 20:56

@PinkPlantCase I love that you’re not getting any pressure about it. We need more professionals to follow suit.
Hope you’re feeling good and get to meet your baby soon!

Travellingislife · 22/11/2023 21:24

How much do your babies sleep a day? My girl is 6 days old and today she’s slept in 2-4h stints. I’ve just woken her up for feeding. Is that normal?! My son never slept for more than 1-2h at this age so I’m not used to it. I hope she’ll do big stretches of sleep at night too now. The midwives said I could leave her for 4h over night if she is sleeping as she hardly lost any weight at her 5 day check.

JD90 · 23/11/2023 00:36

Hey, apologies for the lack of update things have been a bit manic the last few days and I just haven't had the time or headspace to sit and write it out!
So I went in on Saturday evening to be monitored for reduced movement. As I was 39 weeks and have had multiple episodes of reduced movement the Dr said that they would keep me in for induction as long as I was happy. I agreed as I was due to be induced the following weekend anyway. Pessary around midnight, unfortunately caused hyperstimulation and had to be removed but 7 in 10 min contractions continued, but no real changes to cervix. By 3 the midwife suggested getting in the bath to see if it helped the pain. After 45 min I had to get out and midwife examined me and all of a sudden I was at 4, got downstairs and got gas and air, while midwife did admission stuff. An hour later asked about pethidine and epidural I said yes please as I was so exhausted. She examined me again just to make sure and I was at 8, so no time for anything. Bub was born maybe 25 min later at a 'whopping' 6lb1oz! Unfortunately she struggled to maintain temp so had to be out in a hot cot and be monitored for almost 48 hours. All good now though. Got home yesterday and had the worst night with horrendous pain from feeding and it also being absolutely constant! So once again no sleep. However today has been much better and though I still have a lot of pain feeding seems to be getting a bit better. It's just a struggle to get a good latch when she is so small in stature with a tiny tiny mouth. But we are persisting and I've contacted a lactation consultant to try and arrange a visit to get more support. So fingers crossed we can get through it! I gave up far too easily and didn't seek support with my first and really want to make it work this time.

LeeanneD11 · 23/11/2023 10:25

Hello everyone

I'm struggling to get my baby to latch on or even take my milk, so I've decided to stop breastfeeding as it didn't work for us both .

Does anyone have any tips to stop? My breast are so engorged and painful . And constantly leaking . I can't sleep as they hurt so much I'm on the lookout for Mastitis but I haven't got any symptoms as of yet .

Thank you xx

TMI2000 · 23/11/2023 15:19

Good afternoon everyone.

big update from me as not heard from me for a while. Congratulations to all the new arrivals and so so sad to hear about those with poorly babies.

I came into the labour ward on Saturday 18th November after my sweep on Thursday with regular contractions and had my little baby at 19.46pm with the help of a vontuse. He was perfectly healthy and weighed in at 8 pounds 14 so big baby!
I unfortunately did not cope with the birth and with the help of an episiotomy I still had a 4th degree tear and was rushed to surgery with post partum hemmorhaging, I lost 3-4 litres of blood which I have heard a crazy amount to lose.
due to the blood loss, I had to be put into an induced coma in the ICU for 36 hours over Sunday and I was woken up on Monday and and just starting to recover now, I was transferred back to labour ward yesterday. Slowly Getting up and about, feeling more like myself and even looking at discharge in the next couple of days.

almost doesn’t feel real writing it all down and wow what a week 😂😂😂

Nov2023 · 23/11/2023 15:33

@TMI2000 Congratulations! Great that you are feeling better now. Well done on coping so well with such a hectic birth. Take your time to get your head around it. It sounds very traumatic so allow yourself time to accept it.. Hopefully you are back with the baby now and enjoying getting to know your little one

BabyBabyBaby123 · 23/11/2023 15:58

Congratulations to all the new babies!

My LO was back up to birth weight by day 20, but he has terrible sniffles, which he has had for well over a week now and I’m starting to feel a bit worried.

He is still feeding like a champ, but his breathing is quite grunty and I’m not sure if his chest is pulling too much with his breaths. He has no visible mucus in his nose and no cough or temperature, but I’m starting to think maybe I should take him somewhere to be checked over. I am using a saline spray and a humidifier in the bedroom which seemed to be helping, but not as much today.

This is making me glad he’s my last baby, I can’t cope with this newborn worry again!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 23/11/2023 16:38

Wow so many new babies! Am I the only one left?! 😅 not much as a twinge here.

Congratulations to everyone! So sorry to hear some births didn't go according to plan and some babies have been unwell. I hope everyone is healthy and enjoying snuggles with their babies soon!

foodislife1 · 23/11/2023 16:59

@BabyBabyBaby123 my little one also has an runny nose, congestion..which sounds very grunty especially after a feed. No temp as such but keep an eye on it and get it checked.

Katiec1 · 23/11/2023 18:41

@FlyingHighFlyingLow im still here waiting🙈 although I don’t have long to wait as we’re heading in for a section in the morning.
early start as we've to be in for 7.30am, hopefully we won’t be waiting around too long!
I don’t think I’m going to get much sleep either tonight 🙈🙈

Nov2023 · 23/11/2023 18:46

@FlyingHighFlyingLow I am still waiting too! Still in for observation but will hopefully have a c section soon this day next week. And get out of here for a few days first!

Good luck tomorrow @Katiec1 !

Oldermum84 · 23/11/2023 19:13

I've not really been on this board, originally on the due December one as my original due date was 2nd December, which then changed to 30th November at the 12 week scan. I'm scheduled for a c section (elective) tomorrow morning and have to be in at 7:15 so right there with you @Katiec1 !!! So nervous!
