@GreenAventurinee
Mine is looking ok - there was a gold of skin where the surgical glue had come away but it's not oozing.

I do still get full ache from the scar on and off

foodislife1 · 18/11/2023 09:20

Congrats @DollyGx

Travellingislife · 18/11/2023 09:47

Has anyone got a baby who won’t nap anywhere but on you? It worries me reading about SIDS but she won’t settle on her back in bed. I’ve sat up for 2 nights now with her on me and had no sleep. Starting to struggle with sleep deprivation as I’ve not slept more than a few minutes here and there since contractions started on Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning.
She is also on the boob for hours and my nipples are in bits already after 2 days. I asked the staff to check for tongue tie before we left hospital but they said she is fine and that her latch looks good too, should my nipples be so sore then though!? The nipple loooks flatter on one side too when she comes off. If you won’t have any / much pain how does your nipple look after a feed?

It feels like I’m a complete newbie even though my son is only 3 so I should remember these things! He was never feeding more than 10-15 mins though and was happy to sleep on his own.

Alloveragain3 · 18/11/2023 09:52

@Travellingislife Sounds similar to my little one.
She's 9 days and will only sleep on someone. As soon as she's put on her back she moans, and tenses up and wakes up.
I've been co sleeping with her on my lap or chest, or laid beside me on her side. She is feeding most of the time. Obviously not ideal but we both need to sleep.

DH is planning to move in with our toddler once a bigger bed is delivered, so it will be me and baby sleeping in the main bed.

She is also feeding ALL the time. Nipples are a bit sore and dry. Slight pain when she latches but then it feels OK. After a feed, the nipples look normal. If they're raised on one side like a lipstick, this usually means a poor latch so make sure baby's taking a "big bite" of nipple when they latch.

Travellingislife · 18/11/2023 10:21

@Alloveragain3 thank you! 9 days wow,
You’re doing great by the sound of it!

I’ll play around with the latch to see if it’ll help. I really try and get her to open her mouth and take a big bite.
My midwife just told me that she is coming around today so will get her opinion as well.
My husband slept in the spare room with our toddler last night and I reckon that’s going to be standard from now on so I can move about easier in the bed.
I’ll play around with sleeping positions tonight, it would be great if she can lie down feeding. I had an c section and it makes moving about very hard though!

Alloveragain3 · 18/11/2023 10:45

C section here too; I find it hard to get us both up from a lying down position in bed. I'm like an upside down tortoise!

Lying down to feed hasn't been great for me as she keeps unlatching and getting upset. I think she needs a few more weeks practice until I can sleep while she does it!

I'm definitely looking forward to getting DH out of the bed (sorry DH!) so we can all sleep better.

I have her 10 day check tomorrow, so crossing fingers she's gaining weight well as she was only 6lbs at birth bless her.

Spareincoming · 18/11/2023 13:35

@GreenAventurinee It’s normal
at about the 3-4 week mark to have a different pain, scar feeling different or suddenly feeling bruising that you’re sure wasn’t there before! I can’t remember the whys but know it’s a thing! I’ve got random bruising pain this week - today marks 4 weeks since the section.

@Travellingislife Only one of mine has been a “only nap on a human baby” and it had me utterly exhausted and I ended up crying on the GP at our 6 week check about it!
They ended up only sleeping in the next to me if it was warmed up first so in utter desperation we’d warm up the mattress with a hairdryer before they went in!

Hope everyone is surviving, hopefully thriving but sometimes it’s ok to think “everyone fed, no-one dead” is enough too!

We’ve got a cough and cold in the house, the newborn and one of the eldest DC are struggling but we’ll survive!

Travellingislife · 18/11/2023 14:01

@Alloveragain3 god yeah, that’s the hardest for me too, I usually sit with lots of pillows around me but now and again I need to lie down, my ass is numb lol,
Lying down feeding didn’t go that well, she was unlatching a lot. Hopefully it’ll all be better day by day but man I need to sleep soon.
I hope your little one has gained weight, it’s such a worry being a parent isn’t it!

@Spareincoming thank you I’ll try the heating up the bed trick 😬

GreenAventurinee · 18/11/2023 16:36

There was a pulling feeling on one side of my scar that appeared suddenly. Not super painful, no painkillers needed, but different and noticeable against my underwear.
Id not looked at my scar just as it made me a bit squeamish and it’s not causing me any problems, but I took a pic of it last night to inspect close up.
Where the pulling feeling was I could see some stitches (looks like 3) and all the rest has dissolved.
Took another pic this afternoon and they look like they are disappearing compared to yesterday and it looks dry, clean and neat.

Still in a baby bubble here. It’s baby girls due date but we’ve had an extra 19 days of loving her. She is a dream 😍.

Hope you’re all doing well.

So looks like bub is gonna be with us sooner than expected, came in today because she has been really quiet all day and they said they are keeping me in and inducing me and that I'm having contractions anyway (which I am aware of but not horrendous at present) so just waiting to be examined and see what's what... amusing thing is this is how I ended up with my first, sent in for monitoring and ended up being kept in and induced

GreenAventurinee · 18/11/2023 18:58

Ooh good luck @JD90 !

Spareincoming · 18/11/2023 19:56

Sending you the best @JD90

@GreenAventurinee Have you found yourself losing hours in the day just looking at her? I beer in and out of the bubble depending on what the other DC are up to! But the bubble is still here, 4 weeks on!

OP posts:
GreenAventurinee · 18/11/2023 21:24

@Spareincoming oh yes. The days are just flying by 🥰.
Random a - have you had a bath yet? Im dying to have a good bubble bath but not sure if it’s allowed yet!

Spareincoming · 18/11/2023 21:45

@GreenAventurinee
I had a feeling you’re not supposed to properly submerge the scar for 2 weeks post surgery so I waited until day 15 and then had a bath using the DC’s Matey bubble bath as I figure it’s gentle enough for children’s skin… used about half a bottle! It was lovely!

JD90 · 19/11/2023 00:30

Thanks for the well wishes everyone, managed to get a bed on the ward and have been monitored and had a pessary inserted so now just the first 24 hour watch and wait. Hopefully its not a 3 day job!!

JoyApple · 19/11/2023 00:52

@Travellingislife we are around day 20 and past few days LO won't settle in her crib so I'm having to bring her next to me on a soft pillow most of the night. It isn't ideal but tbh I don't know what else to do middle of the night when I'm shattered.

My other DC only slept on me and right next to me, and only slept on her tummy. I had no choice but to put her down like that.

JoyApple · 19/11/2023 00:53

@GreenAventurinee oooh Id love a bath too, not sure what the guidelines are with stitches. Better look it up!

DollyGx · 19/11/2023 04:28

Hi ladies hope everyone is doing well! I think I have a velcro baby 😬 she was only born on Wednesday so only coming up on 4 days old, but we cannot put her in her crib at night she just won’t settle, she will only sleep on us. She seems to have naps in the crib during the day just not at night 😅 so DH and I are now taking shifts during the night to sit with her whilst she sleeps on us - is this normal?! I have no clue what I’m doing 😬 scared we are making a rod for our own backs or is this just standard newborn behaviour??

WriMum22 · 19/11/2023 06:06

@DollyGx my daughter is 19 days old but she was exactly the same in the first week. She’d sleep so well in the crib during the day but night time she wouldn’t go near it and would only sleep on us. Myself and hubby took shifts staying up, but we did keep trying to put her in the cot. We would always do the same routine, put her down and then when she wouldn’t settle put her on us, then just kept trying again every hour or so. Eventually at some point during the second week, during a random try, she settled in the cot and stayed asleep during the night for three hours, we were over the moon. After that she eventually settled and now she sleeps in the cot at night. I would say preserve, it’s really important you keep putting her in even if it’s only for 5 mins before she’s back on you, it just allows her to get used to the cot. I think during the first couple of weeks they have lots of adjusting to do 😊

DollyGx · 19/11/2023 07:52

Great advice @WriMum22 thank you, that’s really reassuring!! Will defo persevere with the cot🤞🏼

JD90 · 19/11/2023 08:03

So the pessary didn't work as intended... it ended up causing too many contractions and now I've had it removed and am probably going to have to be given meds to slow them down as ita been out almost 2 hours and they are still too frequent. 🤦🏻‍♀️ and here was me thinking it wasn't going to do anything at all 🤣

Travellingislife · 19/11/2023 09:24

@JD90 good luck today! Very exciting you get to meet baby soon 😍
@DollyGx I think it’s normal for newborns, my girl is 3 days and just wants to be on me, well, I just tried and warm up her snuzpod mattress with a hot water bottle ( removed it before putting her in!) and she stayed there for 30 mins so I’ll keep doing that. We can’t forget it’s all new to the little ones.
@JoyApple yeah we need to do what we need to do, sleep is crucial!
At the moment my little one won’t lie next to me but hoping it’ll change soon. I remember with my son that he fell asleep next to me
while feeding then I dragged him across to his snuzpod on a little sheet. That was when he was a few months though I think.

Travellingislife · 19/11/2023 09:26

C section mamas - How long did it take for your milk to come in? I had an emergency c section 3 days ago and no milk yet, although it seems like my boobs might be a bit harder today. The last time I woke up with massive boobs on day three so I was kind of expecting that now too.

Travellingislife · 19/11/2023 09:29

Any recommendations for a breastfeeding pillow?
I never had one with my son but he fed for 10-15 mins maximum so never felt the need, but this little one wants to be on the boob constantly and I can’t get comfortable!
