Hi all, 17+3 now, overall have been feeling fine but have the runs today and not sure whether to be worried/call the gp or not? It only started today and other than that I feel fine. Anyone any advice?

I personally wouldn’t be particularly worried about the pregnancy due to having the runs, my midwife just says any sickness/diarrhoea as long as you are still drinking plenty of water so you’re not dehydrated and it passes within 48 hours it’s fine. After 48 hours or if sickness was so bad you’re unable to keep water down then call for help. It may be worth doing a covid test though because I know a few people now who have had covid recently and their only symptom has been the runs! X

Ek21 · 09/11/2023 15:55

Thanks for that. I am drinking plenty of water so hopefully it's just a 24 hour thing and tomorrow I feel fine. I am due with the gp on Monday anyway so not too worried. FTM so never sure about what is normal or not! Thanks again

Hi everyone – I've finally signed up to MumsNet and I'm really glad to find this thread and all of you ❤ I'm due April 22nd with our first, had our 16-week appointment yesterday and now I'm white-knuckling towards the 20-week scan as I can't feel any movement yet and I can't help the silly worry that something's gone wrong and I just don't know!

I'm also dying to find out the gender but my husband wants to wait for the 20-week scan – he likes having the mystery a bit longer and I am happy to wait, but also feeling so impatient 😂

Mrsttcno1 · 09/11/2023 16:15

hi & congratulations @ElisabethB you’re due 2 days after me! I know it’s easier said than done (and I should take my own advice because I absolutely a stress head) but try not to worry. I had my midwife appointment this week and she said it’s totally normal to feel movement even up to 20-22 weeks, did she let you listen to baby’s heartbeat to put your mind at rest? X

ElisabethB · 09/11/2023 16:22

Thank you so much @Mrsttcno1 and congratulations to you as well! It's so exciting isn't it?! My midwife unfortunately didn't offer to do the heartbeat and I was daft and felt awkward about asking, really wish I had! I do know it's so unlikely that something's wrong, I just can't stop having the odd little niggle, haha. She did say about possibly not feeling anything until 20-22 weeks though, which was reassuring as most places say from 16 weeks!

If I end up too stressed out over the next couple of weeks I'll probably end up booking a private scan just for the reassurance, but would love to hang on until 20 weeks so we can tell family the gender over Christmas (no way will I be able to keep it to myself for that long otherwise!).

Mrsttcno1 · 09/11/2023 16:30

I’ve been exactly the same! When we had our private gender scan on Tuesday I bought one of the heartbeat bears at the same time so we have a recording of baby’s heart beat in the bear and already I’ve found that so helpful for easing my worries just to have a little listen! Overall definitely just try not to worry, everything will be fine @ElisabethBI’m sure! I’ve found since I’ve gotten a bump I feel much calmer (although defo still have some worries!) x

SummerOak · 09/11/2023 16:56

Congratulations on your girls @XenaTheWarriorPrincess and @Mrsttcno1!! It's so exciting to find out.

I still have to wait a week and a half to find out, I think it will be a boy.

SummerOak · 09/11/2023 17:03

Hi @ElisabethB try not to worry about not feeling anything yet. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and I don't think I've feelt anything so far, the only indication that it's going well is that the bump is definitely growing.

I also wanted to find out the gender sooner, but my husband wanted to wait till 20 week scan. He's way more patient than me 😆

ZB86 · 09/11/2023 17:32

@ElisabethB I feel exactly the same. I have not really had any symptoms, midwife didn't listen for HB at 16 week appointment, haven't felt movements and convinced I just have a fat belly and not a bump as I have been eating rubbish recently. Every day I look at my belly in the mirror and try to convince myself it's a bump then decide it's not. I decided against a private scan after my partner and a conversation on here convinced me it would only reassure my for 5 minutes. Hope the next few weeks go well and quickly and hope the scan is a happy one x

Growinganaries · 09/11/2023 17:56

Just wanted to say I'm also in the girls club!! :))

I'm nearly 20 weeks and no movement yet either. I did panic and get a scan and all was fine hehe. It's so hard to trust things even tho everyone says it could easily be another few weeks before movement isn't it :)

So exciting for us all!

ASGIRC · 09/11/2023 21:26

Wow! It really is girls all around here!!!

I started feeling the baby last week, at 18 weeks, after thinking it was possibly gas.
Now it is fairly obvious it isnt gas, but they arent kicks either, just small flutters.

But Ive figured out her schedules based on that! She is active from mid morning until about lunch time, and the from about 6pm until about 8pm.

dory0 · 10/11/2023 05:55

Wow lots of girls in April! To mix it up a bit though I am expecting a baby boy 💙

We had a gender scan this week after saying we would wait until 20 weeks and safe to say it was an obvious boy! Which is what I had thought right since the start.

I’m 16+6 and noticing tiny flutters / a twitching type feeling in the evenings now. I was told my placenta is anterior but am fairly confident it’s movement I’m feeling… I think!

ASGIRC · 10/11/2023 07:39

@dory0 my placenta is anterior, but it is more to the right side. I feel baby mostly on the left side!
At first I was also not sure, but after a while, it becomes unmistakable. No one has that much gas! LOL

ElisabethB · 10/11/2023 08:13

@ZB86 I'm so sorry you're in the same boat, but it's reassuring to know somebody else is going through the exact same thing! I was feeling so sick during the first trimester I was surviving off beige carbs (mostly crisps 😂) so it took me a good week to realise I might have an actual bump rather than just a 'food baby'. It was when I pressed it and it was firm instead of squishy that gave me a clue! Really hope you feel some movement soon and get the reassurance, and good luck for your 20 week scan!

So interesting that there are so many girls due here – I know seven babies who've arrived in the last four months, and they've all been boys. It'll be so cool to see the final numbers/gender split next April!

1994jk · 09/11/2023 15:34

@Mrsttcno1 awh amazing! Girls all round! I have a gut feeling I'm having a girl but trying to convince my husband for us to leave it as a surprise, he's dying to find out though! X

I am the same - I want a surprise where as my husband would quite like to know. I think it's a boy and he thinks it is a girl.

Ttcmumma · 10/11/2023 09:33

I can't remember the name of the lady who hadn't had any movement yet to tag, I've scrolled up and keep getting lost 🤣.
With my son I didn't feel anything until comfortably over 20 weeks! This time I'm 18+4 and I'm pretty sure I can feel baby girl but it's not all that often, nor that strong just yet.

I'd say try not to worry but I've got an at home heartbeat Doppler to ease my anxiety so who am I to talk 😅. I'm sure baby will be kicking away soon!

Pinkstuffs · 10/11/2023 11:23

I’m 16 + 3 and haven’t felt any movement yet although it’s my first baby. Whenever I think it’s movement it seems to turn out to just be gas 😂

I’m still having a nightmare with my midwife, I went for my 16 week appointment today but she’s on holiday so obviously couldn’t have it. She’s also fully booked up for appointments for the next month! The community midwife team haven’t been very helpful. Who would you escalate to after this? Would PALs help or is this mainly for hospital appointments?

sugarplum33 · 10/11/2023 11:36

@Pinkstuffs That's really poor! So she booked you in and then just wasn't there when you arrived? They can't just expect you to wait a month, there's a reason that appointments are spaced out as they are and that's to pick up any issues early. Is there a central number you can call to put some pressure on them to sort something out. There must be other midwives you could see, even if it means travelling a bit further. If you don't get anywhere then I think PALS deal with all NHS complaints so they should be able to help.

sugarplum33 · 10/11/2023 11:37

Oh and I haven't felt anything at 17+2 either. I didn't feel DD until over 19 weeks so not panicking yet but it would be nice to feel something soon.

Pinkstuffs · 10/11/2023 11:49

@sugarplum33 yes she booked it in at my booking appointment a couple of months ago, I’d then noticed it had been added to BadgerNotes at a surgery about 50 miles away! I’ve been querying it with my surgery, midwife and community midwives for a while but they told me to come along today and it would have been sorted but obviously it hasn’t been. Got to call back Monday to try and get it resolved. So frustrating as I’ve known for ages something wasn’t right with the appointment location, I was almost in tears with the receptionist!

sugarplum33 · 10/11/2023 12:01

@Pinkstuffs So frustrating! Somebody must have rescheduled your appointment so it's crazy they didn't actually reach out and contact you and nobody else managed to sort it. And there must be other midwives a lot closer than that!

I had my 16 week appointment this week and I thought that at 9am they'd definitely be on time. Nope, 25 minutes late! How can you be so late by your second appointment of the day?! Next time I've gone for the very first appointment of the day in the hopes we won't be waiting around with DD climbing the walls 🤣 Also both times my appointments have been double booked with another woman, it's so disorganised.

Pinkstuffs · 10/11/2023 12:06

@sugarplum33 yes my last appointment was at 9am and I went in an hour late, was bursting for the loo by the time I went in - I wish the receptionist had said I just needed to do the sample! My named midwife only works 2 days per week so I’m usually told to text her with any questions around appointments but then it takes nearly a week for a reply.

sugarplum33 · 10/11/2023 12:14

An hour late?! You must have been desperate. It does feel like maternity services are really limping along at times.

The urine pot gets me a bit annoyed actually. My midwife has made it clear that I am to reuse my pot but I do wish she would just empty it for me and give it a little slosh around with some water before I take it back. DD was very spirited at my appointment so I had to wrestle her out at the end along with coats and bags and maternity notes and then I'm sloshing this pot of piss around in my hand too. Walking out feeling like everyone is staring at and judging not only my feral child but also the colour of my urine 🤣

Mrsttcno1 · 10/11/2023 12:46

Omg bless you both with those experiences at appointments! It does seem to be a total lottery whether you have a good or bad experience! My friend had her son last December so not long ago at all and she had a nightmare throughout, midwife not turning up for appointments, long wait times, being double booked etc, but I have actually been very lucky so far I think! I don’t understand why you’re being asked to use the same wee sample pot, I’m given a new one at each appointment and 2 spares to take away for next time!

I'm not keen on the piss pot; but I've never been told to reuse it! 🤢 Although yes, I know it's plastic and wasteful etc.

I'm 18 weeks and change atm. Movement going well, on aspirin to prevent HBP and PE but the heartburn is not fun. Got a pres. For Peptak ,(cheap Gaviscon) though so all good there.

Anyone else still floored by fatigue? Working full time plus looking after DC1 is making it harder this time round!
