Family members have been asking about names a lot and at first I didn't mind telling them our ideas but my husband said he wanted us to stop telling people. I can see why now as people have very strong opinions and don't mind letting you know if they don't like the names you like! Which has made me feel a bit rubbish, so definitely going to keep it to ourselves from now on!

Pinkstuffs · 16/02/2024 08:12

We don’t have any names yet as I find it hard to imagine naming a person I’ve never seen before! We’ve got a bit of a shortlist that we’ve kept to ourselves which is just as well as MIL is very vocal about names she does and doesn’t like.

BuzzybeeMum · 16/02/2024 10:21

We’ve had a different midwife at nearly every appointment and they’ve been nice and all, but to be honest they just take the measurements and do the checks, but don’t provide a lot of extra information unless we ask! I presumed it was due to budget cuts/general strain on the NHS, but I do feel a bit jaded when I read baby books and they all say things like “your midwife will give you xxx” or “your midwife will visit you and give you all the help you need” and I just think, “I’m pretty sure each time I turn up they’ve forgotten who I am!” Ah well.

And on the names… we’ve had one for our baby girl since quite early on (girls’ names are much easier!) and a middle name, but we haven’t told anyone. My DH’s family are very keen to know and it does get a little bit awkward when they keep pressing, but I guess they’re just excited.

Petris123 · 16/02/2024 10:58

@ZB86 I was prescribed 2 of iron fumarate but was told at the hospital (when I went for an extra check), if struggling with constipation take one, and that's what I've been doing. Im in week 29. My iron wasn't actually that low (103 rather than 105) so not sure what to do 😐😐
Also Ive started having pain in my pelvis when I get up. Not nice is it 🙄

MumDaisy1980 · 16/02/2024 15:47

@BuzzybeeMum thanks. Agree about DH’s fam just being excited , that’s why they asked so much. It’s hard to strike a balance!

SummerOak · 16/02/2024 17:21

We finally decided on the baby's name and we did tell the family as we don't really care if they don't like it, but they all loved the name. Could be because they knew we were struggling for boy names and didn't want to say anything against it.

My midwife does all the regular checks, but then she asks me if I have any questions. She did give me information for NCT classes and said we'll be talking about birth at 36 weeks.

ZB86 · 17/02/2024 08:38

Mammas who already have little ones- is it worth getting a nursing chair, and if so, any recommendations? I have a romantic idea of sitting in the nursery (that we haven't even started creating yet) breast feeding baby in a gorgeous chair, but I have friends who said they bought one and never used it. The room isn't particularly big and the chairs I've seen aren't cheap, so don't want to buy one if it's just going to gather dust!

sweetdreams23 · 17/02/2024 08:40

@ZB86 ifyour planning on breastfeeding for me it was essential. Once baby is in their own nursery if they wake for a night feed where would you feed them? Also nice to have somewhere quiet and calm to go too. Really doesn’t have to be an actual nursing chair though, we used an Ikea one which wasn’t expensive and this time we’ve got a sofa bed in the nursery so I will be using that

ZB86 · 17/02/2024 21:37

@sweetdreams23 ah wasn't thinking beyond the newborn stage, good point. Thank you 👍

ASGIRC · 18/02/2024 13:59

@sweetdreams23 but even if you arent breastfeeding, if the baby wakes up in the night to feed, and theyre in their own room (which mine should be, after the 6 month mark), then a chair seems like a great idea!

I wont be buying one, but will steal my moms rocking chair! She got it from some clients, who used it as a breastfeeding chair for their youngest, who moved to another country, and had it reupholstered. It is big and comfy and lightweight.
Then, once shes old enough to not need it, the chair will go back to my moms house!

I am getting to the point where I am getting a bit stressed that I will have a baby in NO TIME, and things arent quite ready yet! Still waiting on some furniture for the nursery, still have some washing to do, havent even starting THIKING about my maternity bag... And my baby might be here in 5 weeks! (Will hopefully sort the date with the OB tomorrow!) 5 weeks!!!!! How can this be???

I am VERY ready to not be pregnant anymore, cause Im not really enjoying it, but... am I ready to have a baby? No, I am definitely not! LOL

Knock123 · 18/02/2024 20:26

@ZB86 I have a bit of a different opinion to the others. I think you would be better putting the money for the chair to one side and seeing how things are when baby is here. It's so easy to get carried away imagining and planning and it doesn't ever go how you expect. If you decide you need the chair, things can usually be delivered quite quickly. If you decide you don't then you have some money to treat yourself or save for a rainy day.

We didn't use the nursery until baby moved in around 7/8 months and by then she had been comfortably sleeping through the night. I found I more needed somewhere to sit or lie down when she was poorly in the night and just needed a cuddle to get back to sleep, but we just had a beanbag chair for that and that really wasn't until much later when she had started nursery.

Knock123 · 18/02/2024 20:31

@ASGIRC I had an emergency induction at 37 weeks last time and absolutely cried my eyes out when they told me because I wasn't ready. I didn't have my bag packed or anything but we managed. My husband grabbed the main essentials and then went backwards and forwards to exchange things as needed.

I assume baby will be in your room with you so don't stress about the furniture, we didn't sort our daughters room out properly until she was ready to move into it.

I don't think you ever feel really ready!

Ttcmumma · 18/02/2024 20:39

@ASGIRC I haven't washed any of babies clothes yet! Don't want them washed and left for weeks and weeks before she's born. I have a baby shower then day before I turn 36 weeks so I'm going to wash all her clothes from after that, so I can include any gifted clothes too. If I do it too early I know I'm going to feel the need to rewash them all lol. That's when I will pack my bag too. Plenty of time yet! X

MumDaisy1980 · 18/02/2024 22:10

We are pretty relax and really aim as soon as arrives March we will start the purchase.

at the moment we are focusing on planning and got good sense of each item which one best suits us. Car seat, pram, crib, baby sling, bathing… we pretty much know which brand and price range we are aiming for now.

been plenty of window shopping and got advice from various helpful staff , like would advice what items not need to get before born, better wait & see - like baby carrier, breastfeed pump.

in my dream nursery world, I did want a nursing chair with the image of me breastfeeding the baby. But now come to reality, factoring space + many other items paying in short period of time, the chair become less priority. And agree with other poster any chair will do. So I am planning to use my chaise long , maybe add more comfortable cushion , footrest and side table. And again liken other poster , if not work out then get one when need it.

hospital bag just been building up but not perfect.

we also have been keeping an eye on second hand like Facebook marketplace. So if baby arrives way earlier than expected we will just open to any options to make it happen.

But today visited the in-laws , the MIL heard we haven’t got anything even nappies , she seems worry and said happy to get all the stuff for us. 😅

i agree with other poster , I think it can never really ready and things will work out!

ASGIRC · 19/02/2024 00:46

@Knock123 oh, yeah, I'm stressed, but not really. I have everything I need if the baby came tomorrow (though the next to me is still in its sealed box, and hospital bag is not packed). But I want to have the nursery all done for a sense of completeness. Then I'll bring the rocking chair, and it will be done!

I could have packed the hospital bag already, I have everything to go in it (apart from the adult pull up nappies I plan on getting for the bleeding), but I don't really want to think about it too much yet.

However, i am almost 34 weeks. I am in the danger zone and I have constant, daily contractions, that are getting more painful.

@Ttcmumma originally, I was going to wait until March to wash everything, for the same reason, but then got a bit excited about it and did it all a couple of weeks ago.

I will not be rewashing, though 😂😂
But was then hifted more things at my baby shower, so need to wash those bits!

As for buying... I bought 2 big ticket items early, 2nd hand: the tub and the pram. I wanted something specific, and saw good deals on vinted, and couldn't let them pass. I was in my second trimester, but still!
Everything else has been mostly bought in the 3rd trimester. Which is going by really really fast.

I'm a bit annoyed that I ordered some fabric samples over a week ago, and they haven't arrived yet! Again, another something I'd like to have before she arrives, but also not the end of the world if it doesn't happen, as it will be for the big bed!

Petris123 · 19/02/2024 15:02

We've bought the pram second hand and now struggling to find a place to get it cleaned 🙁 the one we were going for is temporarily closed. @ASGIRC are you getting it cleaned or doing it yourself?

Ttcmumma · 19/02/2024 15:04

@Petris123 I've got a mobile cleaner coming to steam my son's buggy ready for my daughter x

Has anyone had a pregnancy massage? I'm thinking of getting one any thoughts?

Pinkstuffs · 20/02/2024 12:07

Has anyone noticed their morning sickness has returned? I’ve felt really nauseous the last couple of days, not sure if it’s digestion related or what but eating is the only way I feel better 😂

Bluesky85 · 20/02/2024 13:08

@chlo299 yes I have! It was great, very relaxing and really helped with general aches and pains. I’m planning on fitting in another one before by due date!

@chlo299 yay! I had one in my second trimester as part of the preg yoga intro package. I love it! I feel 3rd trimester much needed one more than 2nd trimester.

Does anyone have any old wives tales/magic tricks for helping to turn a breech baby, who is also measuring big?🥲 Had another midwife appointment this morning where they have said baby is still breech, I’m not surprised at all because I can feel her all over and right under my ribs so I did sort of think she was probably still breech. She’s also measuring 3.5 weeks ahead still, which isn’t a surprise and not a concern, but it does mean they feel it is unlikely she will be able to turn by herself now. They’re going to check me again in 2 weeks and if she hasn’t turned by then they will book me in for a scan within 2 weeks at which point she’s mentioned some options (ECV, c section etc). I’d love to avoid all of that and just get her to wiggle round herself if possible, the hospital did say there’s no guaranteed tricks but if anyone has any ideas or has heard any tricks that have worked for other please send them my way😂x
