@Mrsttcno1 my baby was transverse at my appointment last week and I’m sure he still is as I only feel kicks at the side. I’ve been told birthing ball and watching tv on all fours might help 😂 I would refuse an ECV though and have an elective c-section.

ASGIRC · 20/02/2024 16:51

@Mrsttcno1 Google is full of ideas on how to to it! Off the top of my head I remember being on all fours, and rocking back and forth (or something similar). But google it! It is probably the ONE time it wont be a bad thing!
I was told my baby wouldnt turn, but she did, though! All on her own, between 29 and 31 weeks. She is also measuring big!

I had an appoitment with my OB yesterday, to discuss birth, and, while a date isnt written in stone yet (OB had to check her calendar properly), my baby will be evicted either on the 20th or the 21st of March! So a MONTH FROM NOW!
It is more likely to be on the 20th than the 21st, though the 21st would have been my preference (it is Spring, after all, and my baby has a name of a flower!), but my OB works elsewhere that day. She was gonna check it, though.

One month. I will have a baby in ONE month!

I’ve just ordered a birthing ball and will try all fours thank you!!🤣 It’s interesting you say you’d refuse an ECV, is there any reason for that or would it just not be your preference? I haven’t read much about it yet (too scared to google) but from the way the midwife explained it to me today it seemed like the logical next step to avoid a section but maybe I’ve accepted that too quickly!

Mrsttcno1 · 20/02/2024 17:24

Thank you @ASGIRC ! I’m going to have a look on Google tonight, I’ve been avoiding googling this entire pregnancy but you’re right this is probably the best bet! And congratulations, 1 month is no time at all! X

ASGIRC · 20/02/2024 17:27

@Mrsttcno1 ECVs can be very painful, only have a success rate of about 50% and can, in and of themselves, induce labour, which is why they are done in the labour ward!
I would also refuse one. The doctors will LITERALLY try to turn your baby from the outside by sheer force!
I would rather have a c section.

Pinkstuffs · 20/02/2024 17:28

@Mrsttcno1 pretty much what was stated above, I believe there is also a chance they can lead to ruptures or bleeding and there’s also the chance your baby might turn back anyway. I don’t think the chances of success outweigh the risks involved to be honest.

Mrsttcno1 · 20/02/2024 17:36

Wow thank you both @ASGIRC @Pinkstuffs the midwife didn’t mention any of that! I think it’s time to break my googling ban and have a good read about all of this online before I go back in 2 weeks so that I’m fully informed

ASGIRC · 20/02/2024 17:38

@Mrsttcno1 I am curious about what the midwife said it was!
And also... makes sense they dont highlight the negatives. No one would be up for it if that was the case, apart from people REALLY against c sections.

Mrsttcno1 · 20/02/2024 17:47

@ASGIRC So she told me it was a straightforward procedure, that they just give you an injection to relax the uterus and then gently try to encourage the baby to turn. She said it had to be done on a labour ward because there was a small chance that the procedure can break your waters so they prefer you to already be on the labour ward incase that happens, but said as they wouldn’t do this until around 37 weeks anyway that is fine. I asked if it was painful and she said no, just maybe a bit uncomfortable!

She also never mentioned the success rate at all. Time for me to do some reading!

Ttcmumma · 20/02/2024 18:12

@Mrsttcno1 from anyone I've known who ever had a evc, either the baby turned around instantly (and the whole procedure was very uncomfortable) or they ended up in an emergency c section there and then. I wouldn't personally have one, it sounds awful for both of you and I worry about the cord ending up around babies neck too, forcing them round!

Also for those saying baby is still breech, is this just midwife feeling the tummy? As my midwife says my baby is breech everytime she feels her, I also feel a lot of kicks on the side but every scan I have gone to including last week, she is infact head down. Just facing the left for some reason lol.

I've heard squats, lunges etc open up your pelvis and encourage baby to move down

sugarplum33 · 20/02/2024 18:12

@Mrsttcno1 I think definitely a good idea to do some research and make an informed decision. For some women it will be very uncomfortable and ultimately unsuccessful but there will be many success stories too. It's like anything, everyone will have had a different experience and their own views but you need to fully understand the procedure and any potential issues before you decide on your view.

I'm surprised they didn't explain more of the potential risks though, I had to go through every worst case scenario when signing the consent for my c-section, they were pretty hot on making sure I understood everything that could go wrong before agreeing to it.

Mrsttcno1 · 20/02/2024 18:22

Thank you @Ttcmumma my midwife felt through my tummy today and then sent me for a scan which confirmed breech. I’m going back in 2 weeks to see if she has moved so I’ll be doing all the potential tricks between now and then! X

Ttcmumma · 20/02/2024 18:35

@Mrsttcno1 fingers crossed baby moves! I've heard loads of people say their baby moved later than expected so definitely still a chance yet. Even if it ends up a C-section it's not the end of the world! Main thing is you're both healthy x

SummerOak · 20/02/2024 18:44

@Mrsttcno1 My baby was head down at 28, then breach at 30, then again head down at 32 weeks. He's also a bigger baby but looks like he doesn't have problems moving around, so I think there's still chance for your baby to move head down in the next 2 weeks. I've also heard being on the ball is a good way to get them to move down.

Ek21 · 20/02/2024 19:42

My baby isn't breech, but I have been watching some videos on youtube from built to birth she does talk about positions to help move baby down so these might help!

Hopefulfirstround · 21/02/2024 18:23

@Mrsttcno1 there’s a brilliant website we recommend to patients in Ireland called spinning babies , loads of information there on how you might encourage baby to go from breech to head down position

Mrsttcno1 · 21/02/2024 18:23

Thank you @Hopefulfirstround ! I’ve been doing some research and bouncing away on my ball this afternoon🤣

Pinkstuffs · 22/02/2024 09:14

Does anyone know if midwives check for infection as well as protein in your urine sample? I think I’ve got a UTI but seeing the midwife tomorrow so I wouldn’t bother calling the docs if they’ll check it anyway.

Ttcmumma · 22/02/2024 09:46

@Pinkstuffs I assumed they did when they do the stick dip, it will flag up other things as well as protein but interested to know if anyone else knows for sure as im having some strange pain which feels like it's my cervix but could be bladder. I had my urine tested with consultants on Tuesday so assumed it was clear

sugarplum33 · 22/02/2024 10:41

@Pinkstuffs I think it picks up multiple things in the dip test. My daughter has a UTI a few weeks back and it seemed like exactly the same dip test they do on us.

CinderRosie · 22/02/2024 15:43

@Pinkstuffs it’ll also test for blood, sugar, nitrates, leukocytes and maybe other things? If you’ve got a UTI you’ll prob test positive for nitrates/blood/leukocytes.

sweetdreams23 · 22/02/2024 16:31

@Pinkstuffs yes they picked up slight infection in my last pregnancy just through a routine dip. Didn’t have any symptoms at all.

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 22/02/2024 16:57

@Pinkstuffs you'll need to ask when you go in, because i know mine definitely doesn't.

I mentioned that I thought I might have a uti, was there anything in the urine for that and she said they don't test for that. She just does the dip test for protein and for sugars and then disposes of it it both are negative. They only do further lab testing if the dip tests show an issue.

She said I'd need to go through the gp for a proper urine test for uti.

It will depend on trust/community I'd imagine, so just ask when you go in and then make a gp appointment at reception on the way out if it's a no.

it’s so interesting how different areas do different tests even something as simple a urine dip. Mine has flagged for nitrates a one of times and been sent off for testing but never shows an infection - midwife told me leafy green veg contains lots of nitrates and can show up in pee.

Jb2189 · 22/02/2024 19:54

I've been lurking on this board for ages but never posted!

Just reading everyone's comments from today re. Testing for a UTI. There was traces of blood in my urine today so mines is getting sent off for testing and just to wait to hear back.

My bump growth has also shown to slow down slightly, I've got to wait to hear from the hospital tomorrow to see what they want to do. I already get growth scans due to medication I'm on so not sure what they'll say tomorrow, I know how inaccurate the fundal measurements can be but you can't help but worry!
