@SummerOak no hot flashes , instead having some sort of rashes around the thigh, which I donno if it’s preg related.

@Petris123 congrats! I m also at a stage planning to communicate with work about mat leave.

I wonder how to decide when to take the time off. As in I wish to take as late as possible, my due date is 8 April. But what if it arrived earlier days or possible week(s). I can’t give a specific date. And when it happens not think it’s the first thing I would think of to inform work i m giving birth lol. How you or anyone to set/ communicate the date to start Matleave ?!

on The other hand, I feel the baby movement quite low. Feel like even below the bladder. Wonder if others feel movement that low position?! Or everyone different ?

thanks!!

Petris123 · 12/12/2023 22:46

@MumDaisy1980 I'd like to go on leave quite early. We have lots to do before the birth, I want to have a proper rest before the madness starts 😅 and also as you say, no telling exactly when the baby comes!
In Italy the norm is going 2 months before so that's roughly what I'm following 🙂
Has anyone started buying nursery things?? I'm looking at furniture sets 😊

Poppins2016 · 13/12/2023 02:20

@MumDaisy1980 you don't need to worry too much if baby come early; if you want to state you're working right up to 8th April that's absolutely fine. If baby comes early, your maternity leave simply starts (by law) on that date instead (just remember to get someone to call your employer if you're in labour)!

I've had two babies and worked up until a couple of days before my due date both times (and then I went overdue by almost 2 weeks with both, so no regrets there)!

Mrsttcno1 · 13/12/2023 06:19

@MumDaisy1980 I am also planning on working basically until I pop, I’d personally just rather have all of my maternity leave after she’s been born so I’ve let me employer know that, but have also given the caveat of “I don’t know how I’ll feel then, if I’m really struggling for any reason it may be earlier” and they are absolutely fine with that☺️

@Petris123 yes we have! We’ve ordered our furniture set and our pram last weekend from Mamas and Papas due to arrive in January x

MumDaisy1980 · 13/12/2023 07:50

@Poppins2016 @Mrsttcno1 thank you both!

@Petris123 not started any purchase. Taking advice some other posts to wait till Jan sales.

SummerOak · 13/12/2023 12:53

@Petris123 we're waiting for January sales to start buying thing. Next week I'm off work, so I'll be going around shops and researching things more thoroughly. We want to get the big stuff on sale and then the rest we'll accumulate slowly till due date.

Does anyone have their measuring soon? I have it in 2 weeks and don't really know what to expect. Does the midwife just measure your belly or is there more to it?

ASGIRC · 13/12/2023 14:24

@SummerOak They just measure your belly. And not across, they measure from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus. Its not particularly interesting! 😂

@Petris123 I have started some nursery planning.
But havent really bought anything yet that is specifically for the nursery.

I have, however, bought the Next to Me, in the Black Friday sales, and the pram/travel system, second hand.

I had a lodger up until last weekend, so I am now waiting for my cleaner to come and do a deep clean of everything, and then I will start moving some furniture around. I already have the wardrobe in the other room, which will go into the nursery.
Then I need to buy a chest of drawers, which will also be the nappy station, and then a montessori bed, for when I move her to her own room at around 6 months.

As for mat leave, I wont be starting it before I give birth, but here you can get signed off on 100% pay, so Ill try to get that at some point, but not sure when.

MumDaisy1980 · 13/12/2023 16:26

happy to see we are all on the planning and shopping mode. 😃 glad to hear exchanges on the tips too.

@SummerOak what’s the measure about?? I am not aware of it as part of regular check up. At what weeks expecting for this measurement ?
thanks!

Ttcmumma · 13/12/2023 16:35

@MumDaisy1980 it's just a usual measurement of your bump at appointments from 24 weeks. I won't get my first measurement until about 28 weeks as you don't get a 24/25 week appointment for second children.

Fyi, for those getting measurements soon, please don't panic if they aren't as expected. My bump with my son always measured atleast 2 weeks too small, they sent me for growth scans of the baby and he always measured bigger than expected, they just tuck themselves away sometimes 🙂

ASGIRC · 13/12/2023 23:40

@MumDaisy1980 It is to measure the size of your uterus. Basically it should be the same as your weeks, with about 2cm leeway either way. From 20 weeks, your uterus us expected to have reached your belly button, which is 20 cm from your pubic bone.
And then it is supposed to grow 1cm per week, so at 24 weeks, they expect it to be at 24 cm. Again, there is about a 2cm margin either way.

This way they can monitor the babys growth without extra scans.

ive already had it done twice, as I went to the GP at 20 weeks and to the high risk unit at 21 weeks and both measured it.

CB23CB · 14/12/2023 06:18

Anyone still waiting for movement?! I'm 22 weeks now and still waiting. I'm impatient!
I've been off work the last few days after fainting and dizzy spells. Going back in today, I will make it to the end of term!!

chlo299 · 14/12/2023 06:35

@CB23CB hi im in the same situation here no movements yet :( also i have anterior placenta and my baby was not willing to turn at three separate scan ocassions from gender scans at 14weeks then 20 and 20 rescan. No one mentioned that anything is wrong with the baby so I'm staying positive although I don't have any nice pictures from those scans :(

Ttcmumma · 14/12/2023 08:01

Hi ladies, this is extremely random and a little tmi but I've woken up in the night with flu like symptoms. This isn't what concerns me as I know I just need to rest and stay hydrated, temp down etc however when I got out of bed to go to the toilet, my private area felt weird and heavy to walk? I almost felt the need to have my hand down there to support me if that makes any sense! Is this part of the flu, way baby was laying or should I be worried? 😞

chlo299 · 14/12/2023 08:27

@Ttcmumma sounds similar to something I just found out about last night but I will confirm with my midwife on my next appointment. Try having a look at pelvic girdle pain :)

1994jk · 14/12/2023 08:59

@CB23CB @chlo299 Still no movement for me either!

Ttcmumma · 14/12/2023 09:30

@chlo299 ah thanks Hun! I'll have a look into that.

My first pregnancy I don't think I felt movement until about 24 weeks btw ladies. This baby has been beating me up since before 20 weeks but it's technically my third pregnancy so probably why! I have a posterior placenta aswell which helps x

Alice4875 · 14/12/2023 09:33

I also have the dizziness. Usually in the mornings but can come on later as well.

MumDaisy1980 · 14/12/2023 13:23

@ASGIRC @Ttcmumma thanks! Will check with midwife if it’s not happened in next appointment.

I do feel light headed time to time too. But nothing major.

ASGIRC · 14/12/2023 13:30

My placenta was anterior, but moved back, I'm thinking at around 17/18 weeks as that's when I started being able to pick up the heartbeat on the doppler and started feeling the kicks.

My main complaint at the moment is pain.
First it was round ligament, now it's sciatica. Currently on my way to an emergency appointment at my osteopath, to see what she can do/teach me to do, as I can barely walk now!

@Ttcmumma not sure if it's the same thing, but I also feel a heaviness/swollenness in the private area. I thought maybe something had prolapsed, but it doesn't seem that way.
I'm putting it down to hormones!

1994jk · 14/12/2023 15:16

@Ttcmumma I had a feeling that sounded like this that started in the middle of the night also but I'd say lasted only an hour or so, i also went to the toilet and could feel it, but I went back to sleep and when I woke up in the morning it was gone, no idea what it was sorry! But I suppose it helps to know you're not alone in feeling these things x

ZB86 · 14/12/2023 16:41

@cb23cb @chlo299 me too. 22 weeks.yesterday, low anterior placenta and haven't noticed any movements. I'm currently abroad and have next midwife appointment at 25 weeks so not sure if I should just wait til then to discuss with her. The tommys page says to mention if no movement by 25 weeks but not sure if that's kind of a final limit or not.

Mrsttcno1 · 14/12/2023 16:51

For those asking about movements, remember it all depends on how much your baby actually moves! I’m 22 weeks and have been feeling big movements for the last 3 weeks, my husband has been able to feel them for the last 2 weeks and I’ve even got videos of her kicks now. My friend is also pregnant and she is 24 weeks and only felt movement for the first time last week. Every single scan I’ve been to they have commented on how active our baby is, she is constantly moving (which has made it hard for them to get her measurements on scans because she literally does not stop moving🤣), whereas my friend’s baby on all scans has been a lazy baby and couldn’t be encouraged to change position/move at all. So it could just be that your baby is super comfy and isn’t actually moving very much but totally normal! X

sugarplum33 · 14/12/2023 17:38

@ZB86 My placenta is anterior but not low and most of the movements I feel are really low and below the placenta. I think if my placenta was low like yours I wouldn't feel anything either. Baby is growing by the day so hopefully very soon they'll be strong enough and big enough to feel their movements through or above the placenta.

SummerOak · 14/12/2023 18:12

I'm 23 weeks tomorrow and I've been feeling movements and kicks for a while now, mostly when I'm getting ready for bed. He's more active during the night. My DH only felt a couple of kicks, like I can feel them strong enough but when he puts his hand he can't really feel them. No outside kicks either.

chlo299 · 14/12/2023 18:43

@ZB86 let's not worry :) I'm waiting till my 24week appointment with the midwife right after Christmas to mention it if it doesn't until then. My mum tho said back in her days as well as other people's similar age you didn't feel movement till even 28 weeks so I'm not overthinking yet x
