My sympathies @LondonGirl1992 Hope you feel loads better soon! Heard on a podcast that 90% of women feel better and lose their NVP by around week 22 so seems we are very unlucky!

@nh93 that’s exactly what my rib pain is like, also seems to flare up if I’ve done a bit too much physically.

I was the same as you with the teeth brushing, I bought a soft child’s toothbrush after reading something online and omg it’s made a world of difference! I can brush my teeth without gagging now. It’s maybe worth a try for you ☺️

Thank you will try the children's toothbrush! X

@Clarkey34 We won't be having a nursery as we don't have enough bedrooms 😅 Originally the plan was to move both baby (when he/she turns six months) and toddler to what is currently the office/guest room but now we'll probably be moving house around the time baby is ready to move out of our room.

SarahBowie · 29/01/2024 22:18

We’re going with a safari animal theme for our nursery. She’s going in to the big bedroom at the back of the house that was previously the dumping ground (we use the two smaller bedrooms for my office and a dressing room, dressing room needs to go if we have a second ☹️). We finally cleared the big room out this weekend so my partner will move the cot bed packages in there and build it at some point. We’re waiting for the joiner to come to put the fitted wardrobes in before we start decorating, I’ve only bought curtains so far, not even a rail to put them up on 🙈

As a side note, through my clearing of that room I’ve been listing stuff on vinted to just get rid of it. I’ve made over £600! I’m seriously impressed so if you’ve got stuff lying around and haven’t tried vinted yet it’s a great way of building up the maternity savings pot.

I have my 24 week midwife appointment on Thursday and she’s said I’ll be getting my MATB1 issued then so I can give it to my work. Feels very real now!

oh wow £600 is amazing!
we are currently transitioning the kids into their own room with a bunk bed so i'd like to sell their beds, il try vinted.
Safari theme sounds cute, we don't have space for baby's nursery so will make a little corner for her in our room. can't wait 🥰

SarahBowie · 29/01/2024 23:10

@nh93 most of the things I’ve sold were £2 but I’ve had some more things go around £15 and a couple of pairs of new dr martens that went for almost retail price so it’s been great and means we’ve a lot more space in the house now. I lived by myself in this house for too long before my partner moved in and obviously he came with all his stuff and we’ve just made do but should have cleared out ages ago before we were expecting 🙈

I’ve also found vinted great for buying baby clothes, I think I’m fairly prepared right up til 6 months stage but who knows how quickly she’ll grow so might need bigger sizes soon too.

Are the movements that you guys are feeling varying in intensity from day to day? Some days I have lots of big powerful movements and then other days it's more like little gentle ones? Not sure what's normal or what to be looking out for.

SarahBowie · 30/01/2024 16:28

@newbie12345678 I get a mixture through the day, sometimes she’s doing really strong kicks but other times it’s just a little move. Think it depends what position she’s in.

Sa11yCinnamon · 30/01/2024 17:19

@newbie12345678 yes mine vary, my midwife said to expect that until around 28 weeks (I think!).

ClrDvs · 30/01/2024 20:57

@newbie12345678 definitely varying intensities. One day he did not stop! The next he was pretty chill, little tap taps here and there... today it has been mostly been bashes to the cervix!? Which is... unusual.

Nina7 · 31/01/2024 13:31

Yes, the same here, it varies a lot!
Some days it's mostly like bubbles, other days it's proper kicks...
I do find them distracting when I work :)

Yep same. I think it's because sometimes the baby is facing the other way.

Oh god, I am currently struggling with acid reflux!! Waking up 2-3times a night! I am so sleep deprived! Rennie is not helping much, do you guys have any remedies?

My midwife told me not to use rennies even though it says safe for pregnancy on it and has presrcibed me gaviscon which seems to help out although it's not great at night

I've been prescribed Omeprazol which has honestly saved my life. GP was really sympathetic, prescribed it over the phone.

Holdmysunhat · 01/02/2024 11:16

@Sa11yCinnamon Omeprazol has saved my life too. It's brilliant stuff. I can't believe I can eat pretty much whatever I like whenever I like now.

For any other heartburn sufferers, you can get Omeprazol over the counter if you're desperate. But it works out much cheaper to get it through a GP.

Holdmysunhat · 01/02/2024 11:17

Sorry should have tagged you there @Athena1984

SarahBowie · 01/02/2024 15:53

@Athena1984 also make sure that you’re not lying flat in your bed. I’m a life long reflux suffering and my partner calls me the pillow queen because of how propped up I need to be in bed 😂 seriously though it’s the only thing that helps at night, even with meds.

I had a midwife appointment today which was really exciting. I’m 24+4 so got my MATB1 to give to work, it’s all very official now! We listened to the heartbeat and everything was perfect with that. Got my fundal height taken and the midwife felt around baby. I’m tracking between the 3rd and 50th centile at the moment. Nothing to worry about if the weight keeps going up and doesn’t drop below 3rd. They’ll know more at my 28 week scan. She was a bit below average but long at the 20 week scan so I think I’m just making a tiny little baby which is fine by me for when she needs to come out!

TheBirdintheCave · 01/02/2024 22:31

@SarahBowie I didn't get measured as the midwife I saw said that the sonographer would chart it instead at my 28 week scan 🤷🏻‍♀️

SarahBowie · 01/02/2024 23:06

@TheBirdintheCave aw no. I was told at my appointment they compare the fundal height measurements with your scans to get a proper estimate. Hopefully they’ll measure you at your next appointment. I’ve been going round thinking I’m an absolute whale only to be told my bump is actually quite small, I dread to think what it’s going to be like when it’s bigger if I thought this was bad 😂

Should have said in my first post too that I said to my midwife I absolutely do not want to be induced and if it gets to a point that they need to get the baby out I’d like an elective section. She agreed straight away and they’ll continue assessing me and get me booked in for a section at around 40+4 if I go over. I thought that was really great and I felt really supported.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/02/2024 08:15

@SarahBowie I'm the same re section over induction due to a previous tear. My consultant agreed that was fine.

SarahBowie · 02/02/2024 08:21

@TheBirdintheCave that’s really good to hear. I just don’t want an induction when it so often results in some sort of intervention anyway so I was really happy the midwife supported my decision.

I have an appointment in April to discuss options for epidurals and spinals due to my back injury. The midwife was saying depending on that and how I’m getting on they might just book me in for a section anyway as there’s a very high chance I’ll need a general so she said there’s more prep required for that.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/02/2024 09:56

@SarahBowie Oh I'm sorry you've hurt your back :( It's good that they're going to be making a plan about it in advance though.

newbie12345678 · 02/02/2024 14:08

@SarahBowie I'm having to have a planned section for different reasons. Do you mind if I ask what the relationship is between your back injury and needing a general? I'm seeing my consultant in a couple of weeks so would be good to understand why some people can't have epidural for their section. Thank you! 🙏

SarahBowie · 02/02/2024 14:14

@TheBirdintheCave thank you, it happened a long time ago.

@newbie12345678 I compressed my spine and have significant damage to my L4 and the surrounding area. It’s basically in the area where they administer the epidural or spinal so there is a chance that they either won’t get the needle in the right place or that the drugs won’t work due to my injury. I’m being assessed fully in April as the weight of the pregnancy could affect the area too so it’s all a bit unknown at the moment. My midwife said if there’s any concerns following that meeting it’ll just a GA in case as last thing any of us want is for me to feel the section.
