Oh @Flowers90 im so sorry to hear you've had a crappy day, how worrying! When you say maternity is that triage? If you're still concerned today I would call them and insist they give baby a check over. I'm sure everything is all ok but I'm thinking for your own piece of mind.

I googled early on if it was possible to accidentally squash baby (I was doing yoga and concerned about forward bends) anyway, I was reassured that they are very well cushioned in there - surrounded by a strong muscle/organ, lots of fluid and then our body with the added fatty layers in there too.

Have you felt baby since? Are you feeling them yet?

@Nclktnntt thanks for the new thread! Can’t believe it’s September tomorrow and we’re all nearing the 3rd trimester!

I have my maternity cover starting tomorrow - I’m hoping this will mean after a busy month or so the rest of my working time should be a lot easier

@Flowers90 sorry to hear about your fall - if you think movements have changed I would see if you can get checked over. It’s not worth the stress of worrying about x

Moriquendi · 30/08/2023 21:35

Thanks for the new thread 😊

I’m 26 weeks tomorrow and can’t wait for it to be over already: only a maximum of 16 more weeks. (Which given my son was 2 weeks late I bet this one is too!) Feeling tired and heavy and getting a fair bit of round ligament pain. Not even in the third trimester yet which is where it got really tough for me last time 😬

I’ve also got nothing ready for the baby, will be reusing all my sons stuff but it’s in storage... haven’t got anything organised and it’s starting to stress me out a bit.

Also, I can’t decide on whether I need a double pram or not. 22 month age gap but planning on having the baby in the sling for the first 6 months-ish. We will have a huge hill to navigate and I can barely push the single pushchair up it which is making me think a double is pointless. But will it be useful on days out? But obviously it’s an huge expense! Any one got a similar age gap? What are you doing?

I'm exactly the same! For my first I was so prepared, nothing at all ready for baby number 2- everything is in storage. I don't think I'll get stuff out until I finish work in November- I just don't have the energy!

I will have a similar gap (21) I'm not going to get a double buggy. Eventually I'll probably need a double stroller but I won't be using that until baby is at least 6 months so my plan is to wear baby and still push my toddler when I have them together. I'll see how I get on. I might get a buggy board but I'm not 100% convinced my toddler would stand or sit on it without being strapped in.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 31/08/2023 10:15

@RG84 Yes it’s my first consultant appointment- it’s now fifteen minutes late so I hope it actually happens! Though not usually for appointments to be late. Just waiting on the call. It’d be good to get a date but I’m also not sure what to choose if I have options. My due date is 29th December. So I keep wondering if before or after Christmas would be better. I also don’t know what options he’ll give me - if any.

Flowers90 · 31/08/2023 10:48

Thank you all. Baby was moving last night, he tends to be quite calm in the day time with only a few little movements, but more lively in the evenings. Feeling sore today but ok apart from that. Will keep an eye over the next few days. It was maternity triage I spoke to as advised by our local maternity unit. Will definitely call them again if anything changes.

Pitstop1986 · 31/08/2023 13:12

Is anyone else feeling a little bit chubbier than usual recently?!

Granted, I have been on a bit of a sugar binge the last couple of weeks, I've been so drained of energy that I've been leaning on sweets and chocolate to perk me up. All my other meals are generally healthy but getting my chocolate fix at multiple times of the day is starting to show on my hips!

My last pregnancy I ate apples and carrot sticks and had a cute little(ish) bump and wore the same maternity jeans from 10/11 weeks right through until the end. This time, I seem to be craving sweets and am putting on much more weight

FirstMondayInMay · 31/08/2023 13:33

@Pitstop1986 I’ve definitely been eating more than usual but I read that baby doubles it’s weight between 24 & 28 weeks, so I’m blaming that🤣

is anybody still taking vitamins? Like pregnacare. I’ve just finished the pack but don’t know if I really need to continue them

GingerJanee · 31/08/2023 13:46

Marking my place 🙂

Just had my 25 week appointment this morning was a really lovely midwife took blood pressure and let me hear baby’s heartbeat, however my urine showed traces of a UTI (though no symptoms) but they’ve sent it off to the lab to be checked.

I’ve all big baby bits ordered now and nursery painted (though no furniture sorted yet and I might wait until they’re 6+ as they won’t actually be moving into it until after that age 😁). Currently suffering from a cold and feel horrendous today but baby is flying about in my belly and has started getting hiccups (I think) which is reassuring!

NoodleQueen90 · 31/08/2023 14:42

@Pitstop1986 I've been the opposite...I ate like an absolute pig and piled the weight on up until 20 weeks...now my appetite is reduced slightly, especially at night time, I'm having to force dinner down and feeling full easily. I think some of the weight I'd gained on my legs/bum has gone to my bump instead.
I'm still 2st heavier overall though and some of my maternity clothes are getting a bit neat! As long as the baby is healthy, I'm not bothered. Poor soul endured a lot of beige foods up until 12/13 weeks as that was all I could stomach so I'm glad I'm at least fitting in some fruit and veg now too.

VillageFete · 31/08/2023 14:53

@FirstMondayInMay I stopped the prenatal (Containing Folate) at 14 weeks but continued to take Vit D, Omega 3 and Choline. I’ve just added in a Zinc tablet per day and an Iron tablet (Solgar brand, gentle form of iron that doesn’t cause constipation) Because I’m SO tired, constantly. The Zinc was added because i’ve had a terrible cough for 3 weeks- funnily enough, a few days of Zinc and it’s gone.

I think the latest guidance is Folic acid/Folate in first trimester and then just Vit D for the rest of
pregnancy, but I could be wrong.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 31/08/2023 15:16

@Pitstop1986 yes definitely feel like I’ve put on weight. I’ve been telling myself I’ll be joining gym and getting in shape when baby is here but we’ll see how that goes!

I had consultant appointment today about c-section and with my history I was surprised that he said I’d be a good candidate for a vaginal birth and said he would put it at 7/10 success rate. I mentioned baby’s head size being 98 percentile but he said that wasn’t so important. Easy for him to say! Although he has slightly got me wondering about it. I thought though it would be easier to change mind away from section so said I still wanted it booked and he didn’t book me in but said it would likely be 27-28th December and that I’d hear definite date later.

Charlielechat · 31/08/2023 15:22

@Pitstop1986 yep to the weight gain! I've had a terrible sweet tooth. I eat healthy meals but I've been having either cake or chocolate twice a day, but definitely indulge more at the weekends. I seem to have gained weight quite quickly in the last few weeks. I've now put on a stone since becoming pregnant (I was 7st11 initially). I was feeling ok about it until I returned to work yesterday and someone commented how I have a little "pregnant face" now. It's made me quite paranoid, but I suppose we need what we need to get through pregnancy and the weight gain is only temporary!

RG84 · 31/08/2023 15:55

@ThomasinaLivesHere Ah shame you weren't able to get a date today. If you don't mind me asking your previous history but totally fine if not. My current situation is type 2 diabetes and coeliac. I had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy which resulted in an emergency c-section but I was already in hospital at that stage. I also had a MC in the 2nd pregnancy so this is now my rainbow baby 3rd pregnancy and didnt come easy so hoping the rest of the pregnancy is smooth going. Hoping I am able to get a date tomorrow. I am due officially on the 18th Dec. My last working day at work will be the 1st December.

Are there any questions I should be asking at my appointment tomorrow? That goes to anyone who has had their first consultant appointment.

Moriquendi · 31/08/2023 16:40

@ejg504 Good to hear someone else is in the same situation 😂. Just got to hope that the baby isn’t too early so have time to get it all out of storage. Though after last time I think I’m due a 39/40 week birth, going all the way to 42 weeks was not fun!

What does your first born think of the new baby idea? My son is being very sweet, kissing the bump but nervous as to what will happen in December! He is very clingy to me and my husband and worried that he will hate his new sibling!

A buggy board might be a good compromise, will have to look into that. Eeek! Too much to do!

ejg504 · 31/08/2023 17:03

@Moriquendi he doesn't have a clue what's going on! If I say where is baby brother he will point to my bump but that's as far as I've got. I think he is going to really struggle. He isn't happy when I'm holding other babies or even giving the dog a cuddle so I think he will find it a big adjustment.

My plan is to get all of the baby things out in November and to get him a toy baby to start role playing some bits. I'm also starting to get dad to do more bed times etc to get him used to that now, so it isn't as much of a shock when baby comes, as I currently do everything with him. I'm really excited for him to have a brother but I'm also apprehensive about the change.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 31/08/2023 20:08

@RG84 I tried to think of questions to ask and usually think of ones I should have asked after the appointment but this time I haven’t thought of anything I should have asked. I think if you’ve had a section before it’s hard to think of what to ask.

RG84 · 31/08/2023 20:43

@ThomasinaLivesHere I'm sure I'll also have questions after my appointment. Guess I'm just feeling a little anxious as my first c section was abroad in SA so I'm not sure what the process is here. But shall find out tomorrow.

chloesl1808 · 31/08/2023 21:48

Hello all.

I am due on 31st December but convinced that will date will not actually happen as it's my first baby!

I am looking for some recommendations for travel systems. Looking for one that has an isofix car seat within the bundle. Getting overwhelmed with all the choices but also wanting to choose something that is of a good quality/easy to use. What brands is everyone else going for?

Thanks
Chloe

VillageFete · 31/08/2023 21:54

@ThomasinaLivesHere How frustrating you didn’t get a date. What’s your due date? You may be a “good candidate” for a vaginal birth, but your body, your choice! Absolutely push for what feels best to you.

Anyone else here know they’re having a C section? I live in big, massive satin granny knickers since pregnancy (Although still wore them a couple of times a week pre this pregnancy) For some reason i’ve just shelled out 40 bloody quid on 2 pairs of C section pants for after her birth. I can’t afford to do that again, so will have to continually wash them! I’m now thinking what’s the point? Surely my massive satin bloomers would have done? 😳The brand is Cantaloop and they were from John Lewis.

VillageFete · 31/08/2023 21:57

Just had to buy more bras as well from M&S. Non wired plunge ones in 38E 😦I was a 34E before pregnancy, then very quickly crept up to a 36 back in first trimester and now I’m definitely a 38.

My usually gorgeous, sweet 4 year old son said to me yesterday- “Mummy, why are you so big now?” I said “It’s the baby in my tummy, love” His reply “Yes but you’re fat everywhere?” 😂I am mortified!! Out of the mouth of babes, hey.

Nclktnntt · 01/09/2023 06:58

Oh bless your little one @VillageFete 🙈 my husbands nan keeps referring to me as ' a big girl' we clarified that she means tall because I was assuming that's what she meant but it doesn't sound nice 😂

I haven't looked at prams, travel systems, car seats or anything yet - we plan to do that in October. There's just so much to think about isn't there !

I think I was working too long yesterday only 9-5:30 but as I stand all day, my hips were not happy (the sciatic joint)! I sat down as much as I could at work, but I couldn't walk last night without my husbands help (probably didn't help that I fell asleep on the sofa), It's better today and I have the day off so going to do a little yoga, rest and hopefully it'll be ok again for another day of standing tomorrow. I'm self employed so have to work just need to find a way of managing it 😢 might need to buy a support and see if that helps.

@chloesl1808 welcome 😊 most travel systems will be compatible with maxi cosi/cybex and some joie car seats/carriers. I'd recommend going to your local pram store and asking for someone to talk you through the different options, I was totally bewildered looking online and the one I thought sounded best was horrendous to fold with a fiddly harness when I tried it in person!
I've gone for the oyster 3 bundle which I found the easiest (this is my first baby too and I was totally clueless) but the baby carrier that it comes with gets a bad rap plus you then have an oyster isofix base that is only compatible with that baby carrier. I've swapped it out for a cybex cloud T and base. That way when we go to buy a bigger car seat, I can get the cybex sirona T to use on the same base. Hope that makes sense!

NoodleQueen90 · 01/09/2023 07:12

@VillageFete I've gone from a 32A (basically nothing) to a 36C...they seem massive to me already 🤣
I really need to get some big pants for after baby is born, going to start getting stuff for my hospital bag later this month and pack it in October.

bookbathnap · 01/09/2023 07:37

Hi everyone. Baby is definitely going through a growth spurt. Yesterday my husband said wow your bump is HUGE and he got a death stare 😂.

I’ve been getting lower back and hip pain a lot this week and acne has flared up. All good fun stuff haha.

Travel system wise, I went into John Lewis and Mamas and Papas (at big Next stores) and asked them to show me the options. Found a Flip XT2 in M&P that I loved and got the same on Facebook marketplace for less than half the price. Haven’t bought the car seat yet but will be on a recommendation from a friend for a Cybex Cloud T. It lays flat so the baby can stay in it a bit longer. The buggy has adapters to fit the car seat too.

Still need to buy a next to me cot, changing table, baby monitor. Got loads of clothes from car boot sales barely used for like £1 each and been given some bits from friends.

Feeling down some days and excited happy on others. This is my first so no idea what to expect. I’m trying to read What to Expect The First Year but it’s bloody huge and a bit intimidating!

Hope everyone is having a good week. I love reading your updates.

@chloesl1808 I second this! I was really overwhelmed but going to shops helped a lot and neither were pushy at all (I did John Lewis and a local shop).

We’ve narrowed it down to Bugaboo dragonfly or Nuna Triv Next and both are compatible with maxi cosi car seats if needed, which I really like for the swivel.

Still debating if we need the travel system car seat or to just go with a car seat that lasts until their 4. my friends have said they get heavy so early the travel system isn’t worth it, but I know other people love them!
