For hospital bag I have a large sports bag but I’ve not finished packing so will have to see if everything fits. I’m sure I took this one last time and it was fine.

Last time I spent one night after my emergency section in hospital but this time I’m hoping to spend longer, which probably sounds mad as I’m sure most want to leave ASAP. For those who’ve had elective sections how many nights did you stay? I’m hoping for two nights. Obviously I’ll leave if it’s required but I think it’d be easier away from my son as he won’t understand and will want to climb and jump on me and get upset. I’ll still have that issue but the first few days are the worst for pain.

Srs12 · 03/12/2023 22:11

I have a medium/large sports bag for me and smaller bag for baby and also have a backpack to keep in the car with spares. No idea if I’ve packed enough but I seem to have everything on the lists I have read so don’t want to overthink it.

Is anyone else feeling just generally ill atm? I have perked up a bit now but all day I have been feeling run down and have barely moved from the living room 😬. I’m glad I started nesting a couple of weeks ago so feel relatively ready but I must say I felt more ready last week than I do today (38 weeks today), just hoping the jobs left to do don’t all get on top of me before baby boy makes an appearance. I feel like the last few weeks have really dragged but now the days are going too quick!

VillageFete · 03/12/2023 22:54

@ThomasinaLivesHere 2 nights with my son but that’s because he had a heart murmur and they needed to check him the next day (It had gone/closed) So off we were sent.

This was 4 year’s ago and my understanding is that (particularly post Covid) They’re keen to get you out. I’m actually hoping for a 2 night stay too but we will see.

I didn’t plan to breastfeed my son as we were starting egg collection for IVF 6 month’s post birth and couldn’t delay my period. I’d like to at least give this baby some Colostrum and give feeding a go. I’m struggling with harvesting Colostrum so far, i’m getting VERY little and I go in for my section on Wednesday.

Can I take a manual pump and try and harvest Colostrum that way post birth incase baby doesn’t latch well?

Although I didn’t plan to breastfeed my son, I ended up trying and failed miserably due to his horrendous tongue tie and lack of support so I feel all new to this!

Thank you everyone, it's really helped. Think I'll try 2 hand luggage sized bags - one for me and one for baby and then a spare at home with extras just in case we have to stay in longer for whatever reason.

I was starting to think maybe I'd got too much but it's hard to know what you will and won't need 🙈

I've packed a cabin suitcase for me and then used our changing bag for the baby as it's quite spacious (and now jam packed 😂)

Has anyone noticed their average heart rate going down in the final few weeks? I noticed on my FitBit mine has gradually gone down by 11 beats per minute in the last 2 weeks. Not sure if it even means anything!

@Charlielechat me on the heart rate! I also wasn’t sure if I should be concerned. But similarly it’s dropped down about 10 bpms from about a month ago.

I know progesterone drops very slightly from about 36 weeks so maybe it’s that?! I tried googling but couldn’t find anything.

Charlielechat · 04/12/2023 13:44

@Mushroo oh that's interesting! Yeah I did a Google too haha and can't find anything scientific. Just a few threads with no real answers. Maybe it is the progesterone drop as you say!

Mushroo · 04/12/2023 13:48

@Charlielechat reassuring we’ve both had it anyway!

Nclktnntt · 04/12/2023 13:58

Are you talking your average throughout the day, resting or highest beats per minute?

I've not really looked at mine but mine seems to be 60s resting average, 90s highest and average seems to be around 75 through the day which I believe the last few weeks its been a little higher but I've not paid huge attention to it as my watch is constantly thinking I'm stressed or working out because it's higher than my usual pre pregnancy 😂

Mushroo · 04/12/2023 14:59

@Nclktnntt its my resting heart rate. My little graph on Fitbit is fairly steadily coming down!

(I miss my pre-pregnancy heart rate of mid sixties / high fifties, hoping I can get my fitness back!)

Nclktnntt · 04/12/2023 16:11

@Mushroo ahhhh mines slowly been coming down the past month. I don't have any data prior to that. Only a few beats per min difference just now though for me.

I had emergency c section and only stayed 1 night. I had been on the CLU night before though didn't sleep a wink
I packed bare minimum but I packed in a rush as I started going into labour and wasn't prepared as had c section planned.
I used most of stuff I took but literally had one outfit for baby 1 night dress for me but just wore hospital gown some snacks which didn't eat as just ate hospital food we can have too much I think sometimes!

afternoontea86 · 04/12/2023 17:58

This may soound completely mad but has anyone else thought about stocking for newborn from Father Christmas. I have a 3 and 6 year old who are receiving presents from him but wondering whether they will question why baby hasn't got one as me and DH fill each others with joke presents for each other from FC. I was thinking of maybe just wrapping up some items we have bought already and pretending they are from FC. Anyone else thought about this?

Charlielechat · 04/12/2023 18:15

@afternoontea86 My DH insisted on getting the baby a present and a stocking as we now know they'll be here before Christmas. I wasn't going to, but other people said your child will want to know in years to come what they got for their first Christmas! So I gave in and bought a "my first Christmas" bauble, rattle and stocking. Will take a few photos of them beside their gifts lol!

afternoontea86 · 04/12/2023 19:29

@Charlielechat I was the same as you but as I was wrapping stocking presents I suddenly thought about it. My mum has bought her a Christmas dress and also some first Christmas bits. I'd bought a Christmas jumper and a few sleepsuits. I think I'm going to go and wrap some bits from her nursery tomorrow. I'm not going to buy anything new for her. I'm really worried she'll arrive on Christmas as due date is 14th and both my boys were around 2 weeks late so that would be either just after/on! Praying she comes early!

Charlielechat · 04/12/2023 19:46

@afternoontea86 Yeah that's a good idea! Aww hopefully you go early with a few days to spare before Christmas!

gingerbread55 · 05/12/2023 08:07

Good luck today C-SECTION buddies.
I'm donned in my gown and stockings waiting probably hours for my turn. Trying to think about how hungry I am to avoid thinking about how scared I am!!

Nclktnntt · 05/12/2023 09:35

Happy c-section day to all of you having c sections today - I believe there's at least 3 or 4 of you that have said. I hope everything goes well and you'll be cuddling your little ones before you know it 😊

Good luck to everyone having their C-sections! Hope all goes well and can't wait to hear all the good news!

Srs12 · 05/12/2023 12:11

Good luck to everyone having their C-sections today! Hoping all goes smoothly.

completely random and hypothetical question but if your waters break prior to going into labour do you always get told to go to hospital to be checked straight away? I know you should always check they are clear and odourless but just wondering since my partner is currently working a couple of hours away so wouldn’t be able to drive me to hospital if so. I have other ways of getting there and I know if everything is okay you would probably get sent home again anyway but just trying to plan in advance so in the event it does happen I don’t panic 😅

Noname112 · 05/12/2023 13:37

@Srs12 mine broke before labour with my wee boy. Happened on a Sunday night about 9pm. Spoke to triage who said I could come in then or could wait and see if labour started but would want to see me the following morning for a check. They asked me to save the pad so they could check it was my waters. So I went in the next morning. Nothing happened and I was booked for augmentation the next day so the Tuesday morning.

Charlielechat · 05/12/2023 14:42

We got our ELCS date today 😬 Booked in for 20th December! Feeling nervous now! Is anyone else booked in for that date?

GingerJanee · 05/12/2023 15:09

38+5 today and seen the consultant. Turns out he thinks my last appointment with the other consultant they measured me wrong, said baby is about 70th centile nothing alarmingly big about them but wouldn’t be keen for me to go as far as 41 weeks. I refused to book an induction date (I’m still 9 days until I’m due (14th December) I’d ideally like to go myself) and I’m personally not keen on being induced. I did accept a sweep and apparently I’m 2cm already.

Im rebooked next Tuesday bearing in mind I don’t go myself and he said at that stage he’d like to get an induction or section booked before 41 weeks. My main question is anybody else getting induction mentioned this much?? Surely if im dilating and keeping an eye on me they shouldn’t still be mentioned an induction of labour.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 05/12/2023 18:44

Good luck for those with c-sections today and soon! I still don’t have my date but been told to phone in on Thursday so really hoping I find out then. If it’s before Christmas i want to pick out some cute Christmas themed outfits 😂. I just hope it’s not on my birthday as that’s around Christmas time.

SMG1992 · 05/12/2023 19:27

i hope all the sections went well today and you’re all recovering well with your babies now!
im still under the weather but feeling a bit better, I’ve got a sweep on Thursday at 39 weeks. I’m starting to panic about the size of the baby if this goes later than 40 weeks. I’ll have to mention it to the midwife on Thursday
