@VillageFete Try not to stress to much about GD. I had GD with my first pregnancy and it was just a case of changing my diet. The levels should be under 5.2 as soon as you wake up and under 7.7 after meals. The GD goes away after the pregnancy. I have type 2 diabetes since Dec 22 but that was inevitable as it runs in my family, EVERY SINGLE person in my family has it so I was prone to get this. However GD is just a case of changing the diet. I actually lost weight in my first pregnancy as I cut out all the sugar. It will go after the pregnancy so try not to worry and controlling the diet.

VillageFete · 08/09/2023 21:22

@Smileyface32 Can you remember what your reading was after the Glucose drink? I’m also really reconsidering my diet, this has given me a scare!

I have PCOS and when I used to take MyoInositol every day, it really curbed my sugar cravings and stabilised my blood sugars. I stayed a healthy weight on it & had more energy. Definitely starting on that again in January!

VillageFete · 09/09/2023 00:45

@RG84 Thank you so much for the reassurance. I’ve had a little wobble tonight and panicked! It was 7.9 2 hours after that horrible glucose drink, so defo a bit too high.

Hopefully i’ll feel a bit better next week after speaking to the diabetic team. I’m still hoping they’ve made a mistake 😂

Is it true that i’ll be tested every year now after GD to check for type 2 diabetes? I read that online.

Nclktnntt · 09/09/2023 09:06

Weather is supposed to be cooling down after Sunday for you 😊

28 weeks today and I saw the baby move on the outside! She’s so active tonight, she’s probably too hot and uncomfortable like me.

RG84 · 09/09/2023 21:14

Ladies this heat though, literally sweating buckets. Not coping well here....

Flowers90 · 09/09/2023 23:52

I've just finished a late shift at work! My first one in 2 months. Way too hot to sleep!

SMG1992 · 10/09/2023 18:59

I hope everyone is having a good weekend and managing in the heat. Yesterday es horrible but I feel like it’s cooled a bit today

Had a silly wobble earlier as I got ready to go out for our anniversary lunch but just felt like I look rubbish. I’m swollen (including my face) so just feel a bit frumpy. I look clearly pregnant so I know I was overreacting but I almost cried and refused to go! Hormones must be raging today!

Charlielechat · 10/09/2023 20:24

@SMG1992 I felt like that last week as I was finding it really hard to pick something to wear in the heat! Roll on autumn/winter when we can just cover up!

Just curious - are all of you going to wash brand new baby clothes? I love how soft they are before washing, don't really want to ruin it!

Itonlytakesaminute · 10/09/2023 21:17

When are people finishing work for maternity, how many weeks? I'll be Just over 37

Nclktnntt · 11/09/2023 06:57

@SMG1992 awww, I hope you're feeling better today. Emotions are crazy and how we feel about ourselves changes daily. I'm currently loving my bump and think it's cute, but I put my shoes on the other day that I plan to wear to the wedding we have coming up and could barely fasten them around my ankle so then had a mild panic of which other shoes to wear - so now I'm taking like 3 pairs with my back up back up set a pair of flip flops! thankfully the dress I chose is only tight at the neck so my body can be as fluffy as it likes in the heat over there as it likes 😂

@Itonlytakesaminute im planning on working until Dec 16th - due 27th - I'm a hairdresser and self employed though so working as close into the holiday season as I can before I break up. However, because I stand all day - it depends on what my body will allow me to do. I won't be doing any colour corrections or big colour sessions in December though. Im struggling to stand for those sessions now. No way will I be able to come then.

I am feeling better this morning thanks, I'm liking the bump when I'm in casual clothes, it just when I have to dress up I find that I just look a bit frumpy.

@Charlielechat I'm going to wash mine with the exception of a couple of bits my mum has knitted for him.

Nclktnntt · 11/09/2023 07:59

@Charlielechat ill be washing all mine too. I wash my own clothes before wearing them because I had a really bad allergic reaction years back to the spray they use on clothes to keep them looking sharp and uncreased . I don't know if the put it on baby clothes but I know it's recommended to wash them before they wear them.

Should we wash them in non-bio ? I'm also allergic to non-bio powders 🙈 well bolds, I've never tried others because of it 😂

I'm due 1st December and might be crazy but going off when I'm 33 weeks! My job does pre-partum pay for 4 weeks before due date that you cannot move to after due date, so I was always going off at 36 weeks, but I work a mentally demanding job and with the gestational diabetes I just find it's all stressing me out too much so moved the leave a bit early. Also more likely for me to have to deliver early. Thought that was best to just concentrate on baby and diet, as I've read it can get really hard from 32 weeks when your insulin resistance starts to peak. I'm also giving up 16 weeks leave for my husband to be off for longer at the same time as me, so we can bond as a family which I'm really looking forward to. With his holiday added on it ends up as 6 months of us off together (he gets 6 weeks full pay as paternity leave luckily).

Hope everyone is coping OK in the heat, should be getting better from now. I've been roasting!

TulipVictory · 11/09/2023 10:16

Anyone starting to get swollen ankles ?! 😩

wannabemum38 · 11/09/2023 10:20

Weather a lot more bearable today im back at work well wfh after my extended annual leave for wedding and then was sick last week.
I don't fit in anything it seems at the moment and need to get some slip on shoes as reaching down to fasten laces etc is getting tricky!

Beans1982 · 11/09/2023 10:39

I'm glad the weather is cooling down a bit - hands and feet are still a bit swollen though. @wannabemum38 I'm also finiding it a bit tricky to tie my shoes and they feel tight (not sure if it's due to the swelling or if my feet have actually grown, which I understand can happen).
Got the same issue with clothes, nohing seems to fit, even the maternity clothes I bought around week 12 or 14 are very snug on me now.

As for mat leave, I'm aiming to keep 5 days holiday I've got left for the first week in December and to start my Mat leave from 11 Dec when I'll be 37 and a bit weeks.

Georgia31 · 11/09/2023 16:15

I had my GTT this morning. Since i had the test, I've had awful stomach cramps. Is this normal? I have felt our baby girl but these movements are now quite painful x

Charlielechat · 11/09/2023 18:32

@Nclktnntt I always hear people say it should be non-bio but NHS says it's not necessary!

I'll be going on mat leave at the start of December when I'm 36 weeks. I'm actually really excited to be off in the lead up to Christmas!

Planning to go on mat leave when I’ll be around 38 weeks. Feels a bit late but aware that realistically first baby usually comes late too. Counting down the days till mat leave already… Due date is 23rd so hopefully that’s about right 🤞

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/09/2023 10:04

@smldnlove both my dds came at 38 weeks so it's not a given you will go over

@17caterpillars1mouse Oh gosh really!!! Okay maybe need to rethink. Does 38 weeks seem late to go on mat leave? What will you do this time?

LittleButtercup · 12/09/2023 10:39

My first DD also came early (37 weeks), on my first day of mat leave! 😫
Safe to say I'm starting my mat leave earlier this time, I've requested to finish at 36 weeks - can't wait!

Mushroo · 12/09/2023 10:49

I’m going at 38 weeks, but now worrying it’s a bit late! In the pregnancy exercise class I do, 2 of the women had their babies recently, one at 35 weeks and one at 37! Both were first timers as well.

OTOH I don’t really want to finish earlier and be doing nothing for weeks.

I think I’m going to stick at 38 weeks but just be aware I might go earlier.
