@GlitterDragon as in changing bag?

I've gone quirky with a company called Green cheeks. It's backpack style and has plenty of space. I've gone for the print turtle recall

hotpotlover · 11/10/2023 14:21

Hi everyone :) May I join?

I'm due on December 14th with a little girl.

Wishing you all a healthy remainder of your pregnancy :)

jadey1991 · 11/10/2023 16:16

@hothotpotlover hello, welcome and congratulations.. I'm also expecting a girl too.

99SR · 11/10/2023 17:29

Please help me! I’m so anxious, just got told my gestational diabetes test showed that I have diabetes.. done a quick google and now I’ve sent myself into a frenzy. They haven’t told me what the course of action is for me but they have said the antenatal clinic would be in touch. There was so much online about increased risk of stillbirth and development issues and further complications. My bump is small (measuring on the 10th centile) so wondering if that’s why?

Mushroo · 11/10/2023 17:44

@99SR breathe! I was diagnosed last week and felt the exact same. Really why me?! I had no risk factors other than my mum being type 1 so was a complete shock.

The first few days are rubbish, I cried, a lot. I also really struggled with testing when I first got the kit, which made me stressed and the blood sugars worse.

A week on I feel SO much better. (I mean, it’s still crap but it feels more manageable). I really really recommend the gestational diabetes Uk website and the Facebook group. It’s been brilliant.

you can also still eat pretty normally, just takes more planning and care. Eg yesterday I had fruit, yoghurt, oats for breakfast, egg bagel for lunch and a chicken curry for dinner. Just made some switches like using a bagel thin and less rice than usual.

Honestly ask me anything as I’ve spent a week getting my head around it all! (Although still waiting for a consultant appointment so can’t help on that front)

ThomasinaLivesHere · 12/10/2023 12:05

@hotpotlover Welcome!

Annoyingly I might be joining the gestational diabetes club 😞. I hope not but the last two urine samples have had sugar in them. So if the one tomorrow has it then I’ll be referred for more testing. Hope it’s not the case but will have to wait and see.

RG84 · 12/10/2023 12:12

Hey ladies hope you are all doing well.
Regarding GD, don't stress, you just need to change your diet during the pregnancy and if you need to check your sugars. This is nothing you have done or eaten, it's related to the placenta. After pregnancy it goes. I had GD in my first pregnancy and had to change my diet. Surprisingly I actually lost weight but hey I was happy. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in Dec 2022, way before this pregnancy and that's because it runs in my family on both sides.
All you need to do is change your diet through the pregnancy. They will do another check after the baby is born and it goes after. Speak to your midwife but there is really nothing to worry about.

Undercoverunicorn · 12/10/2023 17:48

Also likely joining the GD club. Growth scan showing over 97th centile so 2 weeks of blood sugar monitoring for me. 2 morning readings in a row high and expecting my third high one tomorrow which will trigger next steps. Have read it being the fasting only result high means more likely to need medication but will cross that bridge if needed. C section already booed for 38 weeks so imagine that won't change mh either.

Mushroo · 12/10/2023 18:49

@Undercoverunicorn tentative welcome to the crappy GD club!

It has kind of sucked the joy out of these last few weeks as I love going out to dinner. I know I still can, but just more stuff to think about!

In more exciting news, we did our big order of baby stuff last night so everything should arrive over the weekend! ☺️

Charlielechat · 12/10/2023 20:45

Has anyone put much thought into their birth plan? More specifically pain relief? I can't get my head round the options!

Beans1982 · 12/10/2023 21:50

I just had my GD test today so now waiting to see if I get a call to tell me my results were high or not...

We finally went car seat and pram shopping last week and settled on the iCandy Peach 7 and Maxi Cosi Pebble 360 Pro - just need to order them now!

@Charlielechat Only thought as far as I'd like to try to avoid an epidural or any strong pain relief which may affect baby (but still reading up on options). And leaning towards a water birth/ or at least the option of a bath/shower and read up a bit on hypnobirthing which I've found really helpful in understanding how the uterus works during labour and breathing techniques etc.

smldnlove · 13/10/2023 08:43

Sorry for those stressing out about GD! Seems to be very common and I hope you are all not worrying too much xx

Cannot believe I am 30 weeks tomorrow! Everyone must be nearing there or past there too now, it just feels crazy. It’s making me quite emotional everyday thinking about it and how quick it’s coming. We also had our 4d scan and got a lovely image of the baby smiling which I can’t stop looking at. Feeling very grateful!

@Charlielechat i really want to sit down and think about this soon, I have no idea at all!! I don’t even know where to start. Are you using a template?

RG84 · 13/10/2023 08:59

@Undercoverunicorn same situation...on the 29th September I had a growth scan and was showing 98th centile which I was and still am super worried. How many weeks are you? I will be 31 weeks on Monday. I have been booked in for a c section on the 4th Dec where I will be 38 weeks.

SMG1992 · 13/10/2023 10:03

Birth plan needs some more thought from me.
I need to have a look into affects of various meds on baby as he is priority, I just want the healthiest most stress free option for us both.

It's getting close now, I am starting to feel a bit anxious about it. I've been doing perineum massage and need to up my yoga so I'm hoping that might help a bit! I also want to look into hypnobirthing

Undercoverunicorn · 13/10/2023 10:41

@RG84 I'm 32 weeks. Also have c section booked for 38 weeks on 23rd Nov whicy i hope doesnt change. Nowhere near ready! Had a 3rd high fasting blood sugar this morning so will need to call the clinic this afternoon to get the ball rolling on seeing the specialists etc.

RG84 · 13/10/2023 10:51

@Undercoverunicorn ah so not far behind. I have to check my sugars 4 times a day. Juring the day they are fine but I've had some high fasting ones the past few days. That's my fault as I have been forgetting to take my metaformin for a few days. Annoyingly as soon as I do a sugar check, the monitor I have is connected via Bluetooth and the results go directly to the midwife. I get a call everytime they see a high result and want to know what's going on. Also didn't help I had some birthday cake yesterday 🙈 they did say if the fasting ones continue to stay high then I'll have to move onto Insulin. Saying that they also said, the sugars will naturally get high as the pregnancy progresses so I can just do my part. I just really hope the baby hasn't increased even more on the 27th October when I have my growth scan.

Regarding birth plan. I have it 80% complete. So will need to run this through the midwife and my pre assessment c-section appointment. Ah loads to think about hey.

NoodleQueen90 · 13/10/2023 10:58

Hi everyone, hope you're all keeping well!
My midwife asked me to have a look at the birth plan 'conversation' section on badger notes. She said if there was anything I was able to complete then just to do so but that she will discuss it all with me at my next appointment (34 weeks) so not to worry if there's anything I'm not sure about. She just finds it helpful for me to look at before hand so that I have an idea of what questions I want to ask her. I think there are some NHS templates available online so if you don't use badger notes or equivalent then these would probably be useful.
They also went in to quite a lot of detail about pain relief and labour/induction etc at my antenatal classes which have been really useful.
I'm booked to go on a free hypnobirthing class online via The Baby Academy. Not sure if hypnobirthing is really 'me' but I've been to their baby care and breastfeeding classes and found them really useful so figured it can't hurt to learn more about it and then decide whether I will use any of it.

Mushroo · 13/10/2023 11:01

@Undercoverunicorn @RG84 my fasting have been ok so far but only just, so suspect I’ll end up on medication.

Annoyingly, I had porridge for breakfast yesterday and got a great reading, had the exact same today and it’s high!! So frustrating trying to keep track of it all.

RG84 · 13/10/2023 11:15

@Mushroo it's really weird how you have the same food the following day and it's a different result. Happens to me as well. My results are even different on different fingers which is annoying!
Even if you do end up on medication, remember it's only during the pregnancy. Although I'm no expert so check with the midwife but that's what I'm always told.

Mushroo · 13/10/2023 11:17

@RG84 yes that’s my understanding too.

Counting down the weeks now until baby is here. Obviously excited to meet her but also excited to demolish a Chinese takeaway!

RG84 · 13/10/2023 11:51

Haha..what's everyone's first meal after birth? Im thinking pizza and chips but this changes all the time. I've already told my partner to have ready some twirls, snickers and hob nobs ready for our hospital bag because I've had to go without for a VERY VERY long time and mama needs a treat 😭

Mushroo · 13/10/2023 11:59

@RG84 yes I think pizza is a great shout. Although depending how long I’m in hospital there’s an amazing burger takeaway round the corner..

The hospital bag treats are such a good idea.

Nclktnntt · 13/10/2023 12:32

Di you guys not eat pizza and chips or Chinese or whatever because of dietry needs or the GD or is there another reason? Im naturally fairly healthy so I've luckily not had to change a lot just what I went off (like porridge) and I love chocolate but haven't really wanted any. But every Saturday I have pizza, we make our own (buy the frozen basic ones and add our own meat and peppers). I don't tend to eat snacks other than a banana or breakfast bar if I need anything but I went off almost all fruit which was annoying as I like my fruit normally lol. I'll have a Chinese once in a blue moon too but not regular. We don't have take away often at all anyways so it's always a little treat lol.

I do miss medium cooked steak though 😋. Haven't missed alcohol but I didn't drink much anyway and my husband doesn't drink so no temptations either thankfully lol.

I'm looking forward to Christmas cheese without worrying about what is in it and also a cup of nice coffee!
Sadly I was also pregnant last Christmas before my MMC, so it feels like I've been pregnant and missing out for ages!!

I really feel for you all with GD, I would hate to have to give up sweet treats - hopefully I won't develop it in the next 9 weeks

Mushroo · 13/10/2023 12:57

@Nclktnntt just because of the gestational diabetes - it’s controlled though a low carb diet basically. Before I was diagnosed I was just eating normally with treats when I fancied similar to what you’ve been doing :)

I would not be giving up pizza otherwise!
