@Vsah22 I think it’s a monitor with a sensor mat you’re looking for. Never used them myself but I know people who have especially for more poorly or premature babies. I just have one of the most basic camera ones but it’s worked for us. I suppose since my toddler still needs it I’ll need to get another for new baby.

I’ve been getting lower back pain and some pain to my legs. I’m going to bring it up with midwife as it is quite frequent.

I’ve been sent info about antenatal classes starting in November. This is is my second baby but my first was during covid so never got to go to any classes so thinking about it this time. I might learn something or meet some people.

I've been back and forth to the hospital since my growth scan on Wednesday due to high blood pressure and protein in my urine. Had both again on Friday though baby had moved from transverse to head down again. Also had markers for a liver condition in my blood so need a retest next Friday and my iron is now low so I have iron tablets, which do not fill me with joy since I'm already suffering with constipation.

Was back again this morning for more BP and urine check, thankfully both of which are now fine. So just need to see what the bloods say on Friday

Charlielechat · 08/10/2023 14:44

Hope everyone's doing well!
I had a GP call earlier in the week followed by an opticians appointment about the visual disturbances I had last week - turns out it was most likely a migraine as my BP was fine and so were my eyes. Have my 28 week midwife appointment tomorrow so I'm looking forward to finally getting measured to see if baby is on track!
Also started the free antenatal classes my trust offers, looking forward to next week's which is all about labour etc!
@Vsah22 I think we will go for the Leapfrog lf915hd. Argos had it on offer recently so gonna wait for it to go down in price again!
@RG84 I've been thinking about my hospital bag too! I'm only 28 weeks (29 on Wednesday) but feel like I need to get cracking on it! When is everyone else going to pack their bags?

@Nclktnntt We went for the Nuna Triv Next bundle after trying it out in John Lewis. Super lightweight and easy for both of us to collapse if we are out on our own as you can do it one handed. You get 10% off if you have the baby appointment with them and spend a certain amount and then if you buy other things too it can go up to 15% off so we waited for everything to be in stock and did a big order. Sorry you’re feeling the main right now, they can definitely offer physio as I said to the midwife on Monday about the back of my leg and she said they could help but at the time it wasn’t too bad. Definitely recommend the yoga ball, everyone at our NCT class bought one in and she showed us the different ways you could use them, both to help with pain and pressure but also in Labour. They say your knees should be lower than your pelvis apparently. I’ve got a 55cm one which is just right for me but I’m very short.

@ThomasinaLivesHere Thats exactly what I’m after, thank you! I hope you find them useful if you do go, it’s nice to meet people going through it at the same time as you and who live locally so you have an extended support network. In our last session we covered the stages of labour, types of pain relief, induction, c section, massages and I think in our next few we have final stages of labour, looking after a baby, breastfeeding and bottle feeding and post natal. As someone with no idea it’s really helpful but it sounds like you will definitely already know a lot of it.

@Charlielechat Ooh I’ll take a look
at that, thank you! Hope your antenatal class goes well! I was a bit overwhelmed after the first one purely on how much information there was to take in and all the choices but after the second one I feel much better and much more informed and prepared.

@RG84 Thats next on my list too. I don’t know how much you should put in a bag. Planning to do some Googling this week as it’s something good to have ready.

FirstMondayInMay · 08/10/2023 19:32

Hope everyone is well!

I'm going to try and stick to the list of things to pack on the NHS website, because I have a tendency to over pack, even for 1 night🤣 luckily I’m only 5 mins from the hospital so someone can always bring more if needed

Hey ladies, 31 weeks on Tuesday. Need to prepare my hospital bag.. finding it hard to know what to put in there as rhianis my first c section .

jadey1991 · 08/10/2023 20:17

Also ladies I'm looking for a double buggy. Need it to have the carry cot with it. As well as the toddler part.

SMG1992 · 09/10/2023 08:51

Morning All,

We got a big John Lewis order (also took advantage of the 15% discount) delivered on Saturday and now the nursery really looks like it's taking shape which is amazing!!

We also got our pram travel system delivered but I'm not sure where to keep it for now as it is taking up a lot of space!

I'm planning on getting the below instead of a baby monitor mat, as apparently the technology for the mats is a bit outdated.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HIDTKPC/ref=br_dsk_yr_itemdt_dp?colid=2HMXGDGW1LBIZ&coliid=I2CZNNUEJCU44G
You can also get the owlet bracelet thing which is a bit more expensive but does a similar job.
I'm not planning on getting a sound monitor yet as I don't think we'll need one for the first 6 months as you're not supposed to leave them alone... I think?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 09/10/2023 08:57

@jadey1991 I’m not sure if you need something specific for c-sections. I had an emergency one last time and I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. Maybe some nice bigger snacks as you might be more hungry if you’ve gone without food for a while.

Nclktnntt · 09/10/2023 10:49

I haven't even started buying anything at all yet 🙈 we needed to get the holiday out the way and get some work on the house done. I feel really behind with this of you discussing getting your hospital bag ready lol. When do they suggest having that done by?

I've been undecided on a monitor because we're currently only have 1 room that's habitable in the house (it is a big room, but living, kitchen, dining/currently bedroom area, and office) so baby's nursery furniture is also going to be in here - there is space so it won't be too cramped just very well utilised 😂 so given we eat, live and sleep in the same space I'm wondering if I need a monitor or is it good to have anyway? Will they wake you if you need alerted to something? That is probably the main reason we would need one I guess? I don't know if I'm honest.

Hopefully by mid November we have everything we need nursery, pram and car seat wise - the big things. Steriliser and bottle stuff too. The other stuff I want are lots of Muslim cloths and bibs and stuff like that and I can get that bit by bit, hopefully have pretty much everything by beginning of December! Including heating throughout the house before the really cold weather hits. Baby is due end of December so have everything set for around 4 weeks early so if the come earlier we're prepared 🤞

I mean you guys discussing getting your bags ready - not singling out anyone just more a general I feel unorganised 😂

FirstMondayInMay · 09/10/2023 11:11

@Nclktnntt im in 2 minds about getting a monitor too! I think it’d make me paranoid and I’ll sit watching it constantly🤣

SMG1992 · 09/10/2023 11:14

@Nclktnntt I think NHS advise is to have hospital bag ready 3 weeks before due date so you have plenty of time - don't worry!

Mushroo · 09/10/2023 11:16

I’ve got a few bits for my bag but it’s not packed at all!

Ive also been diagnosed with gestational diabetes 😩 so suspect she’ll end up here early so really need to get cracking.

The midwife’s unhelpful comment was ‘you don’t look the type to get gestational diabetes!’. So rude, I don’t think there is a ‘type!’

jadey1991 · 09/10/2023 11:41

@ThomasinaLivesHere oh I see. Thanks for the heads up.

My hospital bag isn't packed either. I have a few things to put in there.

Ideally I would have had it packed already from now as you never know what will happen. As for me I just haven't got round to it as I'm running around like a blue arse fly making sure the flat is clean.. I'm going through the nesting stage now which makes me think she will be here sooner then I think

SMG1992 · 09/10/2023 13:07

I'm in nesting stage also!
I got a vax spot cleaner but now want to spot clean everything!

Nclktnntt · 09/10/2023 17:08

Im very disappointed in my trusts antenatal classes - I just called to book, I was told they're online only and have remained this way since covid, doesn't bother me to be honest like that. But anyway, just called and got the voicemail that says the only class they're running at the moment is a water birthing one - I want a water birthing class so I will book - but I also wanted all the other things they teach and tell you. Looks like I'll have to pay for a course.

Has anyone opted to pay for a course and found a good one that covers multiple areas? I've come across ecpectingclasses which seem really good and not too costly compared to others I've seen.

I had my 28 week midwife appointment today and got measured. Bump seems to be measuring on 50th centile, so I'm pleased with that, although I know how inaccurate they can be. But now if anyone tells me how big I am then I can respond by saying I'm measuring exactly where I should be 😆

FirstMondayInMay · 09/10/2023 18:04

I’ve done a couple of free online courses with thebabyacademyuk and thought they were really good for the basics! I think they have ones you can pay for which go more in depth too

Ahhh I did look at them but they seem to only offer Saturday sessions and I'm at work Saturdays 🥲

@Nclktnntt Don’t worry, I’ve not got anything ready or packed my hospital bag either! All the newborn stuff and hospital stuff for me that I barely used last time is still in storage. Our house move is going so slowly I’m not sure we are going to be in the new house before the baby arrives. Trying to arrange to get it out of storage first week of November but if the new house isn’t liveable it’s going to be a bit awkward 😭

RG84 · 10/10/2023 09:40

Good luck with the house move, we moved in August and still unpacking!

I have finally confirmed with my work my last working day...I will take 2 weeks annual leave from 17th November and then maternity leave will start on the 4th December for scheduled c-section. I have also requested 10 KIT days, this isn't something anyone has ever done at my office so waiting to hear back from HR if they will approve this. I hope they do as it will help financially.

FirstMondayInMay · 10/10/2023 12:46

The Amazon prime day sales have started today, might be worth a look if anybody has anything specific in mind still to buy for baby!

GlitterDragon · 10/10/2023 18:51

Anyone have any cool links for baby bags?
