29 weeks today for me and I'm due 29 Dec so guessing we're all pretty much in or nearly at single digit weeks until our babies arrive!

Also feeling excited to meet baby whilst also starting to feel a bit nervous about labour, but will continue to read up, watch videos, and ask midwife about preparing for labour to get prepared.

Just got a call from the midwife to let me know that my GTT results have come back okay - I hope it settles for everyone who's experiencing it at the moment! ❤

I'm really looking forward to a nice piece of steak as well, but especially sushi. I've been making cooked fish/veggie sushi a few times during pregnancy but it isn't the same.

@Nclktnntt just because of the gestational diabetes - it’s controlled though a low carb diet basically. Before I was diagnosed I was just eating normally with treats when I fancied similar to what you’ve been doing :)

I would not be giving up pizza otherwise!

Ahhh ok, I see. I hope I don't develop GD because I've never had to diet or be strict and I think I'd struggle. I'd do it obv, but it would be bloody tough... I really feel for you guys!

And prosciutto - I miss eating that out the packet. Melon and prosciutto is my fave starter and baby doesn't understand the sacrifice between that and the steak 😂

@Beans1982 you took the words out of my mouth! People keep saying 'ahhhh it's so exciting, are you excited?' Im like 'i am, but I'm also well aware how they arrive' 😂 and we have a lot to do before they arrive lol

Started my maternity leave today at 33 weeks! Feels so weird but relieved to have removed the stress of work. Hopefully I can just forget about it now but I reckon it will take some time. Feel like I have forgotten to hand over something vital and everyone's going to be annoyed at me.

Sorry to everyone joining the GD club. It's OK to mourn at the beginning and feel like it's a bit overwhelming, but you'll get the hang of it! Also don't feel the pressure to just be diet controlled, it just doesn't work that way for some people due to their naughty placentas. I've been on insulin since 28 weeks and found it a relief actually because I felt so much guilt around not being able to control my numbers even with the "ideal" GD diet and portions, when now the medication will do it and when they start rising I can just up that.

Omg my first meal I want 3 courses with a nice big bottle of red wine (depending on breast feeding of course); a lovely cheese board with all the naughty ones, then a McDonalds, then a custard slice. Sophisticated stuff. More things I love are actually out of bounds because of the GD than the pregnancy I think due to my love of carbs and sugar.

Looking forward to having my body back without having to check everything is safe for pregnancy. But it's my first baby and I don't think it's really hit me I'll have someone to look after in a few weeks, don't know if that's how anyone else feels?

Itonlytakesaminute · 13/10/2023 20:14

@Nclktnntt the Birmingham baby show is 4th and 5th November but it's in Coventry, I saw an add on Facebook and managed to get free tickets- can't remember what page it was on I will try and remember !

Charlielechat · 13/10/2023 20:29

@Beans1982 Yeah I felt the same after my antenatal class - didn't like the sound of epidural, diamorphine or Remi and how they can affect baby. But I suppose I should maybe consider one of them as a last resort. People always say to just do what you have to do to get baby here safely.

@smldnlove yeah my maternity folder has a template in it, so I'll probably just jot down the key points. Just so hard to decide what they will be 🙈 Feel like time is passing very quickly!

@stardust25609 lucky you starting maternity already! That's amazing. I'm counting down the weeks too, 6 more working weeks!

wannabemum38 · 13/10/2023 21:13

Hope everyone is doing well. WhatsApp group so so busy I forget to come on here.
So I'm 32 weeks today can't believe it feeling very very pregnant now walking too far is a no no.
Got signed off work for a week due to feeling quite low and not sleeping. It has helped and my husband took us away as a surprise for the night ďown to the coast which was lovely .
Had to go to triage as baby decided to stop moving for a while but all was OK. I had my 32 week scan booked and first consultant meeting next day anyway and baby is doing well I'm in the 50th centile it seems 4lb baby and not big as I had been worried about bang in middle of chart.
Only negative which is quite big one for me my placenta is still low and currently a c section is on the cards between 38 and 39 weeks. If it moves which it only needs to do by 4mm I won't have to have one however because of my age they want to induce me at 39 weeks apparently the risk of stillbirth is higher in over 40s which I didn't know. Obviously I want what's best for baby but really wanted a natural water birth with no intervention like that but looks like that could all be out of the window. I know I don't have to agree to induction but we have lost 3 babies (which she said is also a factor in inducing) and the idea of losing this one is just something I can't comprehend. This is our only baby and I want it delivered safely and know I shouldn't worry yet but its a lot to take in you know.

stardust25609 · 13/10/2023 22:10

@Charlielechat Thanks! Decided to go early because I found the stress of work was making my diabetes numbers a lot worse, as the nurses confirmed the cortisol produced when you're stressed blocks the insulin from working even more. Was always planning to go off at 36 weeks because luckily my company gives us 4 weeks full pay pre-birth but moved it forward after my diagnosis and getting put on the medication.

Charlielechat · 13/10/2023 23:40

@stardust25609 oh gosh, you are just right to begin it early! It's not worth the stress!

Nclktnntt · 14/10/2023 07:51

How's everyone's bumps progressing? Getting much interaction with them?

29 weeks for me and I sometimes feel like it's a cute little bump and then other times like it's massive 😂 last night baby was sitting right up under my ribs, making my right ribs feel bruised, I had to hold my rib down to get them to move from under it. They're favouring high up on my right side just now - I preferred it a couple days ago when they seems to be right down across the base of the bump bless them.

Husband got to have a little interaction from them this morning too, they were pushing against his hand so he'd wiggle it a little and they'd push again. I thought it was really cute 😊 normally they act like they don't exist when he tries to feel them 😂 they did it to me the other day - was a busy and long day at work and on the way home the pushed against the side and I put my hand on them and said hi - they vanished, no idea how or where they went but they were no where to be felt 😂😂 I think they'd fell out with me for the long work day lol.

@wannabemum38 oh how lovely of hubby to surprise you like that 🥰, I'm glad time off has helped, are you feeling better now? Did they put you in touch to speak with anyone as well as sign you off or did they even offer it? I hope you're feeling better but also make sure you speak up if you're not or need more from them.

I saw that - we're up Scotland that weekend 🙈 I was going to see if I could somehow do the Friday but I'll need to rearrange my clients and partner would need to take the day off which I'm not sure he'll get away with as we've only just come back from a 3 week trip lol

Hope you ladies are going okay.
I may of asked this before, I can't remember...baby brain.
Vitamin K at birth - is this something you will be having for your baby?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 14/10/2023 17:14

Yes to vitamin K. I’m not aware of any downsides and for some it could be serious without it, wouldn’t want to take a risk.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 14/10/2023 19:25

@Nclktnntt i have pressure under my right rib too from baby’s position. Weirdly it was the same for my first born. I don’t know why that side is favoured.

RG84 · 14/10/2023 19:29

Good to know. I had never heard of it before, my 3 year old was born abroad and was only given a BCG and Polio when she was born.

FirstMondayInMay · 14/10/2023 20:00

Definite yes to the vitamin K for me.

im really struggling the past few days, baby is laying really low down making everything so much more hard work and quite painful too. I actually cried a few nights ago in bed with how uncomfortable I am☹️ but I’m finally in single figures until he arrives now so just have to get on with it I suppose!

Nclktnntt · 14/10/2023 20:17

@RG84 I hadn't heard about the vit K so had a read just and it's a yes from me too.

@ThomasinaLivesHere They were on my left last week at the midwife apt, she could feel their head (I couldn't work out any part of baby) but this week they've moved to the right, they like high up though and it's uncomfortable when they're up so high 😣

@FirstMondayInMaysorry to hear how uncomfortable you have been how many weeks does that make you now? 31 weeks?

Hi all, doing well over here. 32 weeks for me.. had my baby shower today that was a surprise. Planned by my loved ones.
Vitamin k is a yes for me too. All my children have had it at birth. No side affects to it that I can remember. Hope all is well

RG84 · 15/10/2023 09:01

Thanks for all your feedback regarding Vitamin K at birth.

@jadey1991 what a lovely surprise, I hope you had a great day.

I really need to get booking on a newborn shoot but gosh they are sooo expensive

SMG1992 · 15/10/2023 15:31

I also have the baby up high under my right ribs - leaning forward feels impossible with him there
Does anyone have any cat advice? I’ve got a lovely cuddly cat who we’ve had for 10 years. I’ve got a cat net for the cot but wondered if anyone had any other good advice?
obviously baby is priority but I’d like to do my best not to upset him

You cat will adapt just fine, as long as they have a safe place they can retreat too when baby starts crying or they need to get away, they'll be fine. I've seen people introduce smells with babies blanket in their bed and things like that but when my sister had her first she lived at home still and the 2 cats and dog just adapted, we let them smell the baby when they brought them home but other than that, ours didn't bother.

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has experienced any round ligament/pelvic girdle pain? I’ve had mild-moderate pain from around 20 weeks but always manageable.. until this weekend. I cannot get comfortable I feel like I could cry walking/getting onto or off the sofa or bed and in general such bad pain to my left side. I went to the assessment unit yesterday who have sent away to rule out a kidney infection but I’m wondering is there anything that will help?? I’m taking paracetamol, have a heat pad and been using a pregnancy pillow from 12 weeks, I’ve had to wfh the last 2 days and have zero sleep I feel absolutely miserable! Any help would be appreciated.

SMG1992 · 17/10/2023 08:52

Aww @GingerJanee that sounds horrible.
I've been getting some more pains the last week or so.
Do you have a pregnancy ball? I find mine is a comfortable place to sit and makes my hips feel better after a bounce.
