Congrats on all your scans guys 😍🩷🩵

Onedayatatime24 · 25/07/2023 22:33

Eek congrats on the scans and genders!! Does it make it feel more real now you know what you're having?

I've been trying to hold out until the 20 weeks scan (end of August) but seeing all this is making me want to get a private one done at 16 weeks!! So exciting!!

RG9895 · 25/07/2023 22:36

@sashastuck @Buttonmoon86 @FirstT1meMum congratulations on your scans and finding out what your bubbas are 🥰🥰

I am so excited for mine tomorrow! Definitely wont be able to sleep tonight 🤣

FirstT1meMum · 25/07/2023 23:11

@Onedayatatime24 it's such a personal thing but for us it definitely does make it all seem real and I suddenly feel more bonded (sounds ridiculous I know). There's something about us now calling her a she and referring to her as a girl and not an 'it'. We've been on cloud 9 all night 🥰🥰

@RG9895 can't wait to hear all about it!!! 😊

Salamander91 · 25/07/2023 23:20

Congratulations on all the lovely scans and finding out the gender! 😊

I had a feeling this one was a boy but it wasn't a strong instinct. I wouldn't have been shocked if it was a girl but it is indeed a little boy 💙

Flossiepot · 26/07/2023 06:11

Congratulations on the scans 🥰
@FirstT1meMum I feel exactly the same about the gender I just don't feel I'd be able to fully bond with them not knowing who / what they are.

Onedayatatime24 · 26/07/2023 06:29

@FirstT1meMum @Flossiepot someone did say this to me when I first found out! I was saying I don't really feel pregnant and they said you bond so much more once you know what it is and can picture your life a bit more so it makes sense!

lucya66 · 26/07/2023 06:41

Wow congrats on your little girls and boys @Salamander91 @FirstT1meMum @Buttonmoon86 @sashastuck

how exciting! it does make it feel more real, doesn’t it?

its so exciting (for me) knowing the gender. I’ve started to plan nursery colours, pram colour and bought some little bits of clothing. It’s personal choice though and I know plenty of people who don’t find out.

sashastuck · 26/07/2023 07:34

I agree with @FirstT1meMum and @lucya66 - @Onedayatatime24 I definitely feel more bonded already now! We’ve told family the name so they keep saying it and it feels very real/intense. Went straight into town after the scan to buy some clothes! Need to look back over your pram chats now to start thinking about that.

Have a wonderful scan today @RG9895 !!

Kalodin · 26/07/2023 08:20

There's some really interesting research about bonding with babies via finding out their gender. It really depends on what sort of person you are, not everyone's the same, for some people it's important to establish that bond making before baby is born via knowing the gender before birth but for others it's better when it comes as a surprise.

I did a literature review on it when I pregnant with DS1

EL27 · 26/07/2023 08:36

We're having a gender scan later today, so excited!!! Really hope baby doesn't be awkward and have their legs closed 😂.

Does anyone know how accurate the gender scans are this early?(I'm 16+5 today) I know my cousin was told it was a girl and she had a boy! Really want this too help with bonding picking out clothes/decorating like others have said. But also don't want to focus on it too much in case of the small chance they get it wrong 😅

Flossiepot · 26/07/2023 08:38

Oh no @EL27 I didn't even think about them getting it wrong 🙈 was it a 16 week scan they had?

Hummusanddipdip · 26/07/2023 08:46

@Flossiepot they can also get it wrong at the 20 week. My best friend was told girl... he came out a boy

Flossiepot · 26/07/2023 08:51

🙈 it never crossed my mind. I'll be sure not to go ott with colours then even when we've found out

Salamander91 · 26/07/2023 09:03

I don't know what the percentage is but I had a 16 week scan with my daughter and it was right. I definitely trust it more when they say boy though. It's not very subtle 😂

Hummusanddipdip · 26/07/2023 09:04

Honestly didn't cross my mind until it happened to her. I've got 4 extra scans with this one because ds was small at birth. So I think I'll be cheeky and ask them to double check every time 🤣

RG9895 · 26/07/2023 09:05

Thank you ladies!! So excited!!

I'm going to window to the womb and they say its 99.9% accurate but best believe I'll be getting them to check at every scan after 🤣

Flossiepot · 26/07/2023 09:10

@RG9895 were using them too on Sunday so 🤞🏼
I'm getting offered extra scans due to medicine I'm taking so I'll be sure now to confirm at every scan 😹

flowerpot258 · 26/07/2023 09:25

I've got my gender scan next week at window to the womb as well. I'll be 16 weeks exactly. Can't wait to find out!

Lilothblos · 26/07/2023 09:25

Hope all goes well for scans today!!

Just had my 16 week midwife appointment, we’ve already found out the gender (girl) through NIPT so are trying to hold off on having another private scan at this stage, but I had been feeling quite anxious. I asked at the midwife appointment if she’d use the Doppler and she said she wouldn’t usually this early but she can if I’d like. It was so reassuring to hear the heartbeat nice and strong! So for those who haven’t had their appointments yet and want to hear it, it might be worth an ask, the worst they can do is say no.

EL27 · 26/07/2023 09:51

Flossiepot · 26/07/2023 08:38

Oh no @EL27 I didn't even think about them getting it wrong 🙈 was it a 16 week scan they had?

No it was the 20 week one! I don't think she had any extra scans so hopefully having the extra 16 week will help confirm it 😅.

I might ask the sonographer later how accurate/obvious the baby's sex is at this point, will keep you updated how it goes 😁

sashastuck · 26/07/2023 10:32

@Kalodin that’s so interesting! What a cool thing to research whilst pregnant.

@EL27 have a fantastic scan today.

I’ve heard that hearing you’ve got a boy is more accurate than hearing you’ve got a girl as the boys are more obvious/harder to misinterpret. Saying that I don’t know
anyone that’s ever had it wrong. I’d trust it and get a few white/neutral bits JUSTTTT in case x

Kalodin · 26/07/2023 10:42

Well I done it @sashastuck , because I had a horrendous 12 week scan with DS1, my MIL had muscled her way into being the sonographer assistant and the sonographer was her best mate. I was horrified. They both expressed to me how they don't think I should find out the gender at the 20 week scan. They said it was selfish and showed that I was only caring about my views as a mother rather than wanting to bond with a baby regardless of who it is. It was really fucked up.

I put in a PALS complaint and requested I do not see either of them again in my following scans. But to be armed, in case they pulled the same shit, I wrote a literature review and sent it to my MIL and her colleague and printed off a copy to take to the scan.

I never needed it though, as we did have a different sonographer and that 20 week scan was lovely.

Mummyme87 · 26/07/2023 11:16

I didn’t find out with DS1, can’t say it felt any different to when I found out with DS2.

I looked after a woman a few years back, it was her 4th or 5th baby but partners first, she had all boys already. Scans during pregnancy all said girl, came out a boy. She had taken labels off all her clothes (very gender stereotypical clothes) and washed them 😬it Definitely happens, more likely at the 16wk scans versus later ones but still not common.

Hummusanddipdip · 26/07/2023 11:26

Ohhh that's unfortunate @Mummyme87

To be fair, we're only finding out because ds wants to know, and it's a nice way to involve him, shame he can't be in the scan.

I've been given back a lot of the stuff I gave away when ds was a newborn (I'd forgotten how bright and colourful I went, you'd think neutrals offended me 🤣 seriously its all orange, green, red, yellow etc and has animals all over it, now he wears mainly dinosaur or construction vehicle patterned stuff), my friend who had a boy but was told girl is hoping I have a girl because she got so much girls stuff that she was bought before baby arrived that she's planning to pass on 🤣
