Great news @Bimbley 🥳

@Gremlin84 hahah I did the opposite and went to my booking in appointment with a full bladder, and then she didn't ask for my wee 😂 sat there for over an hour answering questions desperate for the toilet 🙈 I have to go back in 2 weeks to do bloods and urine and she gave me a sample pot so I can do it in advance! Much better hahah

sashastuck · 16/06/2023 17:33

Aww lovely @Bimbley !

@LittleAlien24 I completely understand the anxiety. They say the risk of MC is massively reduced after seeing a heartbeat after 8 weeks 🤞🏼💗

@Buttonmoon86 yes I actually got what I think is an ulcer pop up in my mouth yesterday! Wasn’t painful but I did hear that is quite normal. The range of symptoms is ridiculous!

Questions for teachers who know a bit about maternity leave: as most of us are due in Jan, who is going to take mat leave from the Christmas hols? How does it work - can I say my mat leave officially starts the day after the Christmas hols ends (so I get paid for the hols) or is there a rule that you have to take the hols as part of mat leave? My due date had been brought forward to 3rd of Jan so I guess automatically it’ll start the last day of term?

sashastuck · 16/06/2023 17:38

Just realised that’s a bit of a silly question if my due date is Jan 3rd and term ends 22nd Dec. I think I’d be stupid NOT to go on Mat leave then!!

FirstT1meMum · 16/06/2023 17:39

@Babydustthisyear so glad I'm not alone in the limited symptoms! Have to tell myself I'm lucky but just wish I felt more pregnant haha! 12 week scan in just under 2 weeks so praying they go as quick as this week has!! 🙏

@sashastuck really interested about the maternity leave. I've had a look on my union and there's no guidance on when maternity leave officially starts if you finish on last day...wondering if I can get away with putting the first day back or if that's really cheeky 🤣

sashastuck · 16/06/2023 18:00

@FirstT1meMum well that’s exactly what my plan was!! Will let you know what I find out!

Mushroo · 16/06/2023 18:13

@sashastuck @FirstT1meMum im not a teacher but I get Xmas off, I’m hoping to do the same! Basically finish work on the 18th using holiday and the week we get off anyway, and start mat leave the day the baby makes an appearance! Although the bank holidays roll forward so need to work out if better to take them this year, or ‘save’ them for when i go back. So complicated!

FirstT1meMum · 16/06/2023 18:15

@Mushroo @sashastuck it's so complicated and nothing is ever written in plain English! 🙈 Thank you, will do the same if I hear anything! X

Ttcdcno1 · 16/06/2023 18:17

@sashastuck I think that if due date falls in the hols then you just let the bursar/ head know when baby is born and mat leave starts then

Ttcdcno1 · 16/06/2023 18:18

@sashastuck so you’re paid normally until baby is born then mat pay kicks in. My friend is due in August but she’s a union rep too so I’ll check with her 👍

sashastuck · 16/06/2023 18:30

Awesome! @Ttcdcno1 thank you! That’s such good news. I thought I’d be forced to take mat leave the last day of term even though realistically I would have worked up until a few days before due date anyway had it not been the holidays. Sounds promising 🤞🏼

suz2285 · 16/06/2023 20:28

Just checking in, had my scan tonight at 9 weeks, baby is doing great, healthy heartbeat, measuring ahead still at 9+5 and wriggling around waving tiny arm and leg stumps at us 😂

Was in and out in 5 mins! Got a couple of pics but tbh they're pretty blurry! I don't think they press hard enough to get a clear picture! The ones I got from the hospital a few weeks ago are way clearer even though it was 2 weeks ago 😂

Anyway hopefully that's me until my 12 weeks scan in a few weeks, fingers crossed 🤞

PartRadish · 16/06/2023 20:31

Brilliant news @suz2285 😀

suz2285 · 16/06/2023 20:38

@PartRadish so relieved, now just to panic until next time 😂😂

Clouless · 16/06/2023 20:39

I've been reading along for ages with this threads but have been too nervous to join in. I think I'm 9+6 with my second. I'm also a teacher and have just read the messages regarding mat leave. I think you can start your mat leave as late as your due date. You can definitely get paid for the Christmas holidays. I think I'll end up going back to work for a week or so after Christmas but if I don't, I'll put the first day of the Spring term as the day I begin mat leave.
Anyway- nice to meet you all. I've just eaten some nachos and now obviously feel sick! I would have done without the nachos though tbh, and they were delicious! Hope everyone is having a good evening.

sashastuck · 16/06/2023 21:29

@suz2285 that’s great news yay!

Welcome and congratulations @Clouless , thank you for the advice regarding mat leave. I’m with you on the eating something then feeling sick tonight - I had a chicken burger despite knowing full well I’ve gone off chicken - got half way through then suddenly alarm bells started going off and I had to spit it out 😂 Chicken is normally my favourite!!

suz2285 · 16/06/2023 21:38

Lol @sashastuck chicken is about the only thing that I haven't gone off of yet! 😂

Fi2788 · 16/06/2023 21:52

Hi Everyone, been following this thread for a while now but been too nervous to post. I am currently 10 weeks 2 days. I have 2 kids already, they are 11 and 7, i also had a miscarriage in December so have everything crossed that this baby is okay. 12 week scan is booked for 28th June.

Dannic2018 · 16/06/2023 22:24

@Fi2788 we are similar dates and I had a MC in December too. My scan is the 26th but I have had 2 other scans, you’d think it would help the anxiety but it really doesn’t 😩 still don’t feel it’s all real yet 🤷‍♀️

Fi2788 · 16/06/2023 22:43

@Dannic2018 I haven't had a scan yet so hoping for the best. I know what you mean, it gives you a bit of reassurance having a scan and then you're back to worrying again 😬 I know it doesn't, i think it will start feeling more real once you can feel baby move.

sashastuck · 17/06/2023 06:47

Congratulations @Fi2788 ❤️ sorry about your previous loss. Our 12 week scans are on the same day!

Got another wedding today, this time with all my family. Still debating how to get around not drinking, and also not instinctively holding my belly 😂 I’ve started already!!

Fi2788 · 17/06/2023 07:49

@sashastuck thank you, Congratulations to you too and Good Luck for your scan ❤

Carry a drink around with you so it looks like you're drinking, after everyone has had a few they won't notice you aren't actually drinking yours

Kalodin · 17/06/2023 08:20

In simialr boat to you @sashastuck As at a weekend long family party. I'll be doing as Fi2788 suggested, and carrying a drink. Also told DH to ensure he asks me if I want another drink but then to covertly drink mine 😂

Also have a Work Summer Party with a free bar coming up, usually in with the louder lot who then go out into town afterwards but I've already planted the reasons I won't be able to go this time by saying I'm struggling with finding childcare as DH is working

Mushroo · 17/06/2023 08:49

The not drinking is a nightmare from a cover up perspective.

Although I went out with old work friends the other week, had one alcohol free beer and luckily another woman is pregnant (v early) but told a few people because they noticed she was on lemonade all night. That completely took all suspicion off me for the time being which was perfect!

sashastuck · 17/06/2023 09:08

Good luck @Kalodin and good ideas about holding a drink! My partner isn’t at this wedding otherwise I would have roped him in to help me, but now I’m wondering whether I should have told my sister in advance so she’d help me. I’m not a big drinker anyway but it will seem weird for me to not be on the prosecco!!

@Mushroo that sounds like a big relief! Alcohol free is a good idea tbh, it looks the same.

LittleAlien24 · 17/06/2023 09:50

@sashastuck thanks. Even tho i haven't had mc, had ectopic but because of all the health problems im so worried.
@suz2285 good to hear your scan went well and you got to see your little one wiggling 😁 i also got really blurry pictures from all 3 scans 😔 but on the last scan my daughter took a video so at least something.
@Clouless hi and welcome. Im 10w today and totally get you with food. Im hungry, that makes me feel sick. I eat and i feel sick 😣
@Fi2788 hi and welcome. Hope everything goes well for you this time

I've screening blood test on Monday morning and endocrinologist appointment after that. I have no idea how im gonna manage it. Have to go there fasting but drive to this hospital is about 1h 15 minutes. Im already struggling in the morning when i wake up and have to take my thyroid medication 30 minutes before i eat.
