@greengreensummer honestly so over the moon. I didn't realise how much tension I've been holding until I got home.

I suddenly feel more relaxed whereas DH said he just feels lighter (in the wallet) how it feels more real 🤣

suz2285 · 29/06/2023 16:52

@TrudyProud I think the techs just say him/her interchangeable at this stage cos I don't think they can even tell until a lot later on, my pregnancy app does the same some days the update says she and others he 😂

I'm hoping my husband might feel like it's more real after our scan too, even though he's seen baby at an early scan I think because of previous miscarriage he's just taking one day at a time, but I imagine once we start telling people and I start showing it'll become more real at that point for him 🤷‍♀️🤞

Hi guys can I get your advice on whether you would announce yet or not?

We had our 12 week scan and saw a lovely bouncing baby! We live in France so the standard procedure here is to do the scan to take a look at the NT. then they take your bloods as standard for the NIPT. Then they give you a call the following day to tell you if your high, medium or low risk for chromosomal abnormalities.

My NT (at 11 weeks+6) was between 1.8mm and 2mm which the doctor said placed us in the medium risk. My age places me in the low risk. So the NIPT results will be a helpful final gauge.

My question is - would you hold off on announcing until you got your NIPT results, or is the French system just being overly cautious and in normal UK circumstances would they be bothering with the NIPT?

Basically we would love to shout it from the rooftops so having to wait feels rubbish!

Thanks in advance :)

Hummusanddipdip · 29/06/2023 17:30

You are so right @Kalodin this thread is fast moving, loving all the scan photos, can't wait for mine. I'll do a bit of a guess post later (I've no idea how to tell, but I'll look at the pics and go "ahhh yes, this us a boy/girl" in my best sherlock voice)

Ahhh love it @TrudyProud and yeah they use she/he interchangeably throughout unless you know.

@suz2285 dh was like that with ds, there was nothing going on until the scan happened, no sympathy at all to any symptoms, this time he's been better.

It's whatever you feel comfy with @Lululumpkin we told some people (parents/inlaws and siblings) at 7 weeks I told my HT around the same time and dh had told work recently, I'm 11 weeks today. I have my scan next Friday and I believe HT will be telling the wider school the following week, ready for summer hols.

We were going to announce on ds birthday to the wider family, but we're at a family wedding the day before, so feels a bit like spotlight stealing if we do that... so we're going to hold off a week or so.

You need to do what feels right for you.

I'm 36 (37 this year) and the NT came back at 1.3. I was under the impression that anything under 3.5 was fine.

The only people we've told are my mum and MIL (told them after a positive test), 2 of my besties/bridesmaids because we were at a concert and I wasn't drinking (I was 8 weeks). My mum told my brother 🙄 last week. Basically, when I see people if they ask I tell them.

Ps - with my daughter the NT was 1.8 (I was 35years old) with low risk for the trisomies and she's completely healthy

ThomasinaLivesHere · 29/06/2023 17:55

@TrudyProud I think “he” is often used as a default by some people. I did however notice the sonographer say “he” in one of my later growth scans and I did turn out to have a son but it’s hard to know if it was a slip of tongue or just their default way.

My stomach feels so strange and has gotten much bigger in the last few days. I don’t remember it like this from last time but I’ve forgotten a lot with all the sleepless nights that followed 😂

FirstT1meMum · 29/06/2023 18:03

Thank you all so much for your calming words this morning! Scan was absolutely incredible and baby seems very happy! Got a brilliant heart beat and all measurements and brain look good! Only thing I'm disappointed in is that my picture is nowhere near as clear as all the others I've seen! I understand it's because little one wasn't facing the wrong way and there was no amount of coughing and wiggling that could change that 🤣 Little bean was also very active and legs were really going! Has really made it all feel very real and I know I'm a tad upset about the picture but seeing the little one was just the most incredible moment ❤️ we've already booked a scan for 16 weeks and now they've changed me to 12w+4 not that long to go and hopefully will have a clearer picture 👶 now due 7th Jan! (It gets earlier at every appointment 🤣).

Again, thank you all so so much, feeling so very blessed❤️

suz2285 · 29/06/2023 18:11

@Lululumpkin with that measurement of NT it sounds good but if it's only another day to wait for the results of the NIPT I'd just wait one more day?

LittleAlien24 · 29/06/2023 18:26

@Lululumpkin im 11w 5d at the moment and no screening results back yet. My fiance told one of his good friends a few days after we found out im pregnant (i was about 5w) he just couldn't hold it in lol told my kids a few days after that because i had/have really bad nausea and i couldn't hide it. He told his kids at 8w and everyone else at 9w. we were trying for so long and were told only option is ivf so just had to tell everyone because it was such a shock and surprise i got pregnant without anything. I was really scared that we said it so early and still am.
There's really no right time for this, whenever you feel you're ready to tell it to everyone.

Lululumpkin · 29/06/2023 18:30

Thanks everyone! Reassuring. I think you're right @suz2285 - just wait til tomorrow!

I think the French system is just hyper-cautious.

Boy or girl what do we think? Due 5 Jan 🤩 (or 12 Jan in France as they do 41 weeks!) xxx

@TrudyProud @Lululumpkin @FirstT1meMum SO glad you all had wonderful scans! Sorry if I’ve missed anyone!

@TrudyProud I think yours looks girly! And going to say boy for you @FirstT1meMum but take with a pinch of salt which I’m sure you will anyway 😂 beautiful pictures, all of you, even the blurry one - that’s your baby in there!

I feel a little bit silly but I sent off my scan picture to a nub ‘expert’ website today and they sent back 95% boy. I’m over the moon about that but know not to buy all blue yet just in case 😂 for anyone trying to work out nubs, turns out the position of the bladder is also important. If the bladder (a small black dot) is under the nub it’s more boyish - if it’s more parallel with the nub, girl. Someone stop me!!!

@Mummyme87 your spa break sounds delightful! You deserve it x

suz2285 · 29/06/2023 19:12

@sashastuck I'm definitely doing the same and sending mine to the nub experts when I have mine next week! Hopefully can see the nub! All my scans so far have been super blurry so I'm hoping for a good one 🤞🤞 I sent them my early one for ramzi theory and they said boy so we shall see!!

Luhou · 29/06/2023 20:22

Please tell me I'm not alone with just having emotional break downs. Feel like everything has just got to much tonight. Feeling like my DH is just not understanding how hard I'm finding thing at the moment. Just got so wound up asking for help to get DD to bed, just broke down and threw baby wipes across to bed at DH. Now just hysterically ashamed of how I behaved infront of my DD. Just can't keep my emotions in check at all.

I have real anxiety about coping when baby arrives, not feeling like DH stepping up yet at all and not only am I exhausted feel like it's making me more and more worried I won't manage with two.

Sorry for the rant, just hysterically sobbing to myself and nobody else to talk too. Feeling like the worst parent.

CarnelianArtist · 29/06/2023 20:34

@Luhou it's not just you. This morning I cried because my husband said some food got binned. I was like im the sort of person who buys too much food and now I can't cope. He was a bit confused like nah, just that you ordered too much cheese 😂

Then a few days ago I cried because someone at work completely disagreed with my approach to something. I also cried because of sad things in the news, then because of an ant infestation and cried because I keep crying. You get the picture.

CarnelianArtist · 29/06/2023 20:36

@Luhou anyway I hope you feel better soon. All that helped was sleeping more, tidying things (even though I normally don't like tidying, ten deep breaths, and eating more particularly food)

Luhou · 29/06/2023 20:37

Thanks @CarnelianArtist just upset with myself for getting in such a state infront of DD.

CarnelianArtist · 29/06/2023 21:01

Luhou · 29/06/2023 20:37

Thanks @CarnelianArtist just upset with myself for getting in such a state infront of DD.

Its OK. Sometimes I suffer anxiety and my four year-old sees my cry. I use it as an opportunity in a way to show how its OK to cry and explain I was upset roughly why (or just say I got top tired) then say I'd like I hug, then I'm OK. Its unavoidable sometimes and its human so don't worry.

suz2285 · 29/06/2023 21:39

@Luhou it's just hormones, try and be kind to yourself, I'm crying at everything too 😂 and we had a huge fight over a car light the other week which made me absolutely hysterical for a full weekend 🙈 I also feel like my husband doesn't understand how tired and weird I feel all the time! But I'm also weirdly lonely when he's not here which is not like me at all! Usually I'm glad of the peace! It's just hormones! 😂

Luhou · 29/06/2023 21:47

Thanks @suz2285 I'm pleased I'm not alone. DD generally is very good, just feel like I can't get him to understand how shit I feel all the time. First time round we had a small finished house, I was on furlough and just slept all day. This time round we have DD, demanding job (3 days a week) and a project house and tbh really feeling it.

Had my booking appointment today, and had to confront my weight and high BMI which has just made me feel like shit too.

@FirstT1meMum congratulations on the scan! Glad it all went well!

@Luhou I cried at dh the other day because we were stuck in a traffic jam, so definitely not just you!

Got our NIPT results back today (test was on Friday), all came back low risk and found out that it’s a girl! 💕 I was convinced it’s a boy because I’ve had very little nausea, just goes to show these things don’t necessarily mean anything! Feels much more real now I can say ‘she’!

OP posts:
suz2285 · 29/06/2023 22:23

@Luhou yeah the different circumstances make it tougher! I'm finding it hard some days in the office, I'm waking up a lot at night and today at work I could barely keep my eyes open this afternoon!

@Lilothblos yey for low risk and yey for baby girl! 💖

suz2285 · 29/06/2023 22:24

@Luhou also meant to say my bmi is higher than I wanted it to be either but meh these things happen! Too late to do anything about it now... I'm just going to try and be sensible and gain only the weight I need to for baby!

Mummyme87 · 30/06/2023 06:25

@Lilothblos good news on your NIPT result! And congratulations on your girl.

@suz2285 I’m not sleeping well at night either, haven’t been for weeks. Waking like 10 times a night. So exhausted. Work is incredibly difficult when I’m feeling like this. I have to inhale my lunch and lie down to get a nap in. Even then 😑
