I caved and booked a private scan last week at 11w +4. A lot of my symptoms had gone and I’ve been having occasional spotting and cramping so decided to go ahead. All looks fine and baby was waving hands and legs around. Heartbeat was 134bpm and measuring a day ahead.

I’m feeling a bit more reassured now waiting for the NHS scan.

I’m on Progesterone which I can stop after this weekend so hoping the bloating subsides a bit. I’ve not been able to wear my jeans comfortably for a couple of weeks now.

sashastuck · 24/06/2023 15:10

@Lightningrain aww amazing news! There is no relief like seeing them on the screen ❤️
I’m another one who can’t wear jeans. I need some new clothes asap. Put on a pair of shorts this morning and cried, the worst thing is at this stage I don’t know if it’s baby or chub causing the issue 😂

@Kalodin it’s called Two New Mums, I went all the way back to their pregnancy episodes! Really good, quite funny.

Luhou · 24/06/2023 15:52

Are people finding they're getting their 12 week scan at 12 weeks? When did this get booked in. I've not got my booking appointment until I'm 10.5 weeks, will the midwife book scan for me there?

Kalodin · 24/06/2023 15:57

@Luhou My NHS Trust will send out the Dating Scan post booking appointment and they aim to do it between 11weeks + 3 days to 13 weeks.

Kalodin · 24/06/2023 15:58

Thank you @sashastuck I'll check them out!

FirstT1meMum · 24/06/2023 16:01

@sashastuck omg same! I feel like these last couple of days my hormones have gone to a whole new level! I've never been so irritable and short tempered at work as I was yesterday and left feeling so guilty about it, then proceeded to cry over silly things! I thought I'd gone past this but it's come back with a vengeance!

@Luhou I think it all depends on your trust and how they work. Some have had their scans booked at the appointment there and then. I had my booking appointment on the Wednesday afternoon a letter arrive on the Friday with the date of my scan.

ItsAJourney · 24/06/2023 16:06

@Luhou Definitely differs from trust to trust. I received two letters yesterday, one was date for booking appointment for next Friday (will be 9 + 3) and the other was for dating scan on 19th July (will be 12 + 1). My trust is Dartford & Gravesham.

Luhou · 24/06/2023 16:12

Thanks @FirstT1meMum and @Kalodin. I've not had a letter confirming my booking appointment either, just made it over the phone few weeks back.

Kalodin · 24/06/2023 16:13

I didn't get a letter either for my booking @Luhou , had a phonecall to book this 2nd attempt at it

Ttcdcno1 · 24/06/2023 17:19

@Kalodin yes piriton is fine as it chlorphenamine. I’ve got awful prickly heat atm so I asked my midwife recently

Ttcdcno1 · 24/06/2023 17:21

My 12 week scan is booked for when I will be 12w5 from lmp but from my last scan means I will 13w on the scan date but the midwives said they have until 13w5 to do it

sashastuck · 24/06/2023 17:45

Same as me @Ttcdcno1, I’ll be 13 weeks x

suz2285 · 24/06/2023 18:15

@sashastuck I'm the same weight but my
Boobs and stomach are huge compared to before! And nothing fits, how is that even possible 😂🙈 I'm also eating way more carbs than usual and it's hot so def some water retention going on!

Not a fun feeling tho, it's like being fat before there's any thing to see baby wise!

Niam4 · 24/06/2023 18:23

Is anyone else who works shift struggling, I’m currently on night duty and it’s definitely been the worst week. I also have a UTI which probably is making things seem worse. 10 + 5 today. Hoping the next trimester will be easier feeling very sick and all over the place.

Mummyme87 · 24/06/2023 19:34

@Niam4 I do shifts but not nights luckily. I am struggling with long days. Not having breaks until late in the day, the heat is unbearable also. I was quite unwell after my Thursday shift and lasted all day Friday. Bloody exhausting.

ItsAJourney · 24/06/2023 22:30

Hi all, would love some knowledge from those of you who have already had your booking appointments. I need to ask my in laws about the family history so I’m prepared. So that I’m clear about what types of things I need to know, do you know if there are any specific health things that I will be asked about, e.g. diabetes, cancer, heart problems etc?

Mushroo · 24/06/2023 22:44

@ItsAJourney its mainly just your husband you need to know about, but good to have an awareness of diabetes, genetic disorders / blood disorders.

They also asked if any sibling’s children had been born with any problems (so either your siblings children or husbands siblings children if they have any).

FirstT1meMum · 24/06/2023 23:10

@ItsAJourney they were mainly concerned with things that could potentially be hereditary so hypertension, diabetes ect. Both of us have family history of cancer and they said it wasn't a risk factor and not something they would note or anything. Also, anything linked to lifestyle wasn't a concern

Niam4 · 25/06/2023 01:34

@Mummyme87 ye totally agree the long hours are so tough, hopefully in the second trimester it’ll be a little easier. I’m eating very little calories this week as well because my eating habits are so off with the nights and nausea etc hoping one week like this won’t have too much effect. Trying to get in what I can

Mummyme87 · 25/06/2023 06:35

@ItsAJourney it’s all first line family history unless genetic. And mainly down the maternal side that’s of any interest. Cardiac (not interested in your grandad having a heart attack at 70 or your dad having high BP at 60) diabetes (maternal first line), blood disorders, genetic issues. That’s it’s mainly for family history.

Muriel84 · 25/06/2023 07:38

@Luhou i with you on the hair band trick… tho might just give up on a anything with a button. I had my booking this week and have actually lost weight (had Covid badly) so must all be bloat. I have had next level heart burn, I think the progesterone must make it worse. I ended up in a&e and they put me on omeprazole which has helped massively but it’s still crap in the evenings some times.

Got my booking bloods back and I’m now mildly anaemic which I wasn’t 2 weeks ago so I guess it’s the big bleed I had.

Muriel84 · 25/06/2023 07:41

@Niam4 i do on calls. I’ve been off sick or on leave for 3 weeks. I was waiting till my 12 week scan to tell them I’m coming off the rota as fortunately don’t have any nights or long days between now and then. There’s just absolutely no way I could work on call at the moment I’m wiped out, nauseous and short of breath when I walk from Covid. Last pregnancy I came off the rota at 5 weeks Id had two miscarriages before and there’s a lot of risks where I was working.

have you had a pregnancy risk assessment?

Luhou · 25/06/2023 08:03

@Muriel84 glad to hear it's not just me. I was anemic my whole pregnancy last time put on iron tablets which seemed to help a bit and I was less tired.

I am also finding I'm really clicky, I struggled with SPD last pregnancy and everytime I roll over in bed my pelvis clicks and elbows etc. All those hormones making joints loose.

flowerpot258 · 25/06/2023 08:03

I've been bleeding after sex. Anyone else had this?? Apparently it's normal as long as it's pink/brown but it's still worrying.

Luhou · 25/06/2023 08:05

@flowerpot258 not something I've experienced but sure somebody will be along in a moment to tell you perfectly normall. Ask your midwife if you're concerned.
