@Outdamnspot23 first timer here too!

cossie13 · 23/06/2023 09:43

@Flossiepot no question is a silly question!

Lilothblos · 23/06/2023 09:47

@Outdamnspot23 first timer here too!

We have a scan today and bloods being taken for the NIPT test we booked privately. Should be approx 10+5 so hoping we will see something much more like a baby than the fuzzy blob we saw 3 weeks ago!

@Outdamnspot23 me! I had a freak out last night that I know nothing about babies. I’ve honestly only held one about twice and that is it.

Had a minor meltdown last night at DH ‘what happens in the first week?!’ ‘How do i know when they are full’ ‘if I’m supposed to put them in a sleep bag to sleep, doesn’t that wake them up?!’ ‘What do they wear?!’

Literally clueless.

suz2285 · 23/06/2023 09:56

@Mushroo I know nothing either, not massively worried though I'll google it all 😂 got months to learn haha

Bims2019 · 23/06/2023 09:58

@Mushroo this is exactly me! Have held a couple of my friends' babies but that's it, I feel utterly clueless especially when they cry. What do I do? How do I know what they need?!

Husband grew up with lots of young cousins so he's a natural. I'm hoping maternal instinct kicks in asap when they're born 😂

Mushroo · 23/06/2023 09:58

@suz2285 yes I’ve got some books and I’m doing classes in October! Will have so many questions 😂

Mushroo · 23/06/2023 09:58

@Bims2019 exactly this!

Buttonmoon86 · 23/06/2023 11:11

i 💯 feel the same @Mushroo i have held a new born maybe 2/3 times.

I had my 12 weeks scan today and all went well 😊such a difference from the 8 week scan.

cossie13 · 23/06/2023 11:21

Is it really sad that I actually miss that feeling of being a first time mum and being completely clueless?! 😂

sashastuck · 23/06/2023 11:34

@Outdamnspot23 I’m a first timer too and I’ve only held a newborn baby for the first time in May @Mushroo! Thankfully he’s my partner’s nephew so I’ll see a lot of him and I’ve already been asking loads of questions.

I’m 26 and none of my friends/sibling have babies (although 2 not so close friends are pregnant so it has been nice to connect with them) - everything I’ve learnt so far is from podcasts 😭

Those who have used cloth nappies, do you use them exclusively or? I like the idea but have absolutely no knowledge.

sashastuck · 23/06/2023 11:34

@Buttonmoon86 so glad your scan went well xx

Mummyme87 · 23/06/2023 11:34

I’m am utterly exhausted today. Two school runs and a load of washing hung out… I’m done. I need to go out but just can’t face it.

Mushroo · 23/06/2023 12:00

got my NIPT back and all good news!! So relieved and can tell people now.

just waiting for DH to get off the worlds longest work call so we can find out the sex together!

Mushroo · 23/06/2023 12:02

scan picture if anyone wants to guess in the meantime! I’ll confirm later on :)

ThomasinaLivesHere · 23/06/2023 12:32

@Mushroo Girl?

cossie13 · 23/06/2023 12:34

@Mushroo congratulations!! I'm going girl too!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 23/06/2023 12:36

cossie13 · 23/06/2023 11:21

Is it really sad that I actually miss that feeling of being a first time mum and being completely clueless?! 😂

I don’t miss the cluelessness but I miss the naivety I had 😂. I thought I could manage and control a lot more than I can.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 23/06/2023 12:36

Also, well done to anyone who manages to use cloth nappies. I planned to use them with my first but just was too exhausted and overwhelmed to manage them plus washing machine is on everyday anyway so couldn’t manage extra loads.

cossie13 · 23/06/2023 12:41

@ThomasinaLivesHere Ah yes, maybe that's what I actually miss! I do appreciate knowing the things that I definitely need to buy though and the things that I really don't need that are just going to take up space!

And yes, well done on using cloth nappies. I just don't have the energy to deal with the extra laundry, especially as I'll now have 3 kids to wash up after!

Bims2019 · 23/06/2023 12:55

Congrats @Mushroo!

Lilothblos · 23/06/2023 13:11

Great news @Mushroo , do let us know when you find out!

OP posts:
sashastuck · 23/06/2023 13:16

@Mushroo amazing! I think girl!

So cloth nappies are a no from some then? This is a silly question but do you just… tip the worst of it out and then chuck in the wash? 😂

RaspberryTime · 23/06/2023 13:42

First timer aged 39…and CLUELESS!

Mummyme87 · 23/06/2023 13:42

I love cloth nappies. Used cloth wipes with my first then nappies and wipes with my second no issues. Really loved it. Did about 3 loads of washing a week for them so for me wasn’t a huge issue. Bit of a logistical nightmare learning about them I found and took a while to work out which I preferred. Will definitely be using them again this time.

I think a girl @Mushroo !!
