Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@ForeverAndEvers exactly, a lot of people seem to stress about having the 'right' age gap, it never occurred to me at all tbh.

NSx · 23/05/2023 21:56

@doeandfawn @OrionNebula uhhh it’s so annoying I feel like I’ve been swimming or have water up my nose or something 🥺🥺🥺🥺

LaylaHL2023 · 23/05/2023 22:02

Im going to have a 17yr age gap between the eldest and this one 😅.

OrionNebula · 23/05/2023 22:50

@NSx so annoying! And we can't take decongestants 😬 Steroid nasal sprays are ok though, the doctor prescribed me one but I think you can get them without a prescription.

MeganC104 · 23/05/2023 23:13

I had a salt water nasal spray for my sinus infection a few weeks back and it worked but dried out my nose so I kept having nose bleeds 😩

MeganC104 · 23/05/2023 23:14

Has anyone had their whooping cough vaccine yet? I'm supposed to be getting mine Friday

lighthousechristmas · 24/05/2023 08:39

so in terms of movements (FTM) i've just reached 21 weeks and i only was positive i have felt baby past 2 days. before that i was never sure if i was or not :)

i'm having my whopping cough at my 28 week growth scan mainly because i had just recovered from a cold at my 20 week scan when last offerred and wanted to feel okay for a while! (obvs may have felt okay but didnt want to risk it)

OrionNebula · 24/05/2023 09:23

Not had whooping cough vaccine yet. Was only just 16 weeks at my last GP appointment so will wait until my next one.

doeandfawn · 24/05/2023 09:24

My hospital does all vaccines and blood tests right after scans, so I’m getting the whooping cough one at my 20 week.

Oh my gosh, is anyone struggling with their feet on these warmer days? My feet are so hot and achey and feel like they could explode 😩

I spoke to a professor of midwifery yesterday and she told me to keep towels in fridge/freezer (wet towels) and then cool down the legs (wrap them) and the neck (I used wet towels on the neck throughout my summer Japan travel so I know this helps cooling down the body). It is worth trying to keep your legs a bit raised, higher than your pelvis. I hope it helps.

Would anyone know if I'll need a fit to fly letter at 20 weeks? I'm flying to Spain with Ryanair in 2 weeks time and my midwife said I'll need one but having looked on Ryanair website it says it's needed later in pregnancy. I've got a tiny bump atm so they wouldn't even know. Just wondered if anyone has flown recently? Thanks

OrionNebula · 24/05/2023 11:54

@Onethingiwantfor23 I flew with Aer Lingus 2 weeks ago (18 weeks) and they have same pregnancy policy as Ryanair. I have an obvious bump but no-one said anything. You should be grand. Fit to fly letter is required from 28 weeks.

I'm flying with Ryanair in a month, I had to call them the other day to ask about something and I asked about the 'fit to fly' as well. They said that actually they haven't done it in a while and since after pandemic they don't really check it as much as before, but when I'm 28 weeks, I'll still have one with me just to avoid surprises...

Saturnsmoon · 24/05/2023 13:10

I’m flying tomorrow (not Ryanair) and am also 20 weeks. I’m just taking a letter that I got in an early appointment stating my due date just in case but not a fit to fly certificate as such. I’ll be flying again at 26/28 weeks and will get a proper fit to fly letter for that.

I’ve been struggling to get hold of my travel insurance company to inform them of my pregnancy. Online the general guidance seems to be that because pregnancy is not a pre-existing medical condition you don’t need to tell them and they should cover anything pregnancy related but would prefer to have the confirmation from them directly. Anybody got any experience with this?

kingfisher168 · 24/05/2023 13:12

I had my whooping cough vaccine right after my 20w scan and all good, not any side effects as it is a baby dose, though I was quite tired that day.

Also say that I am now 21 weeks and, like many of you, have only started feeling movements couple of days ago. Before that it was a guessing game if it is gas or baby 😂

And I wouldn't really describe it as bubbles or butterflies, I think it feels exactly what you'd expect to feel as if there was something alive living inside of you. 😀

Summer022 · 24/05/2023 13:39

I am also flying mid June and will be 20 weeks but nobody has mentioned a fit to fly letter. I may have to look into this just to be sure

LaVitesse2022 · 24/05/2023 13:45

I'm flying next Monday when I'll be 20 weeks and have looked at the airlines policy on this and it's not needed (Easyjet, Sky Express). It's way too soon.

NSx · 24/05/2023 13:50

@Onethingiwantfor23 nope. I worked for an airline for 9 years - fit to fly certificate is required from 29 weeks onwards for a single pregnancy. It’s earlier for multiples though.

LaVitesse2022 · 24/05/2023 13:56

@Hopefulx yes, definitely ask midwife what needs to be done and anything booked in advance. I find it all a bit odd that they leave it to people to be proactive on this - what if I didn't know about the online app thing and hadn't seen the results? Unless they plan to send a letter with next steps.

Also got my glucose test letter in the post the other day. I'm going to do it as it said that I have some risk factors - though it doesn't say which ones and midwife last time didn't mention anything, just said nearly everyone pregnant woman is invited to take that test.

Feeling like the info process hasn't been great tbh...

Onethingiwantfor23 · 24/05/2023 15:25

Thanks everyone, as I thought but the midwife saying it confused me.

I have travel insurance but having read their information I don't need to tell them about the pregnancy.

Summer022 · 24/05/2023 15:25

Girls, there is a due February 2024 thread now! 😆 Makes me realise how long we’ve been pregnant for!!

Flying12 · 24/05/2023 16:44

@Chanteuse sorry to hear your scan didn’t go as you’d hope. What was it they couldn’t check on baby? We had to go back after our 20w scan so I know how horrible and anxious it is waiting for the scan although we only had to wait 5 days for our rescan.

Chanteuse · 24/05/2023 16:46

@Flying12 they need to check his heart, face and abdominal wall. They seemed happy with everything else they’d checked, and I’m much more chilled about it now - just an opportunity to see baby again 💙

Flying12 · 24/05/2023 16:49

@Chanteuse exactly that’s the way to look at it that you get to see baby again.

ForeverAndEvers · 24/05/2023 19:31

@LaylaHL2023 there is 16 years between me and one of my siblings and we get on great!
