Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

Place marking, due date with first baby is 19/10. 20 week scan is on the 05/06, we will be finding out. But for now, I can't stop referring to the baby as "he." We'll just have to see if I'm right! 😁

katherine123x · 23/05/2023 10:59

@missrubi I did this from 4 weeks and it was a boy!! I was convinced. So much so when she told me I wasn't even surprised. It was like she say saying the sky is blue or the grass is green. I just said yep 😂

AlongcameLainey · 23/05/2023 11:43

@DancingNancies ahh that’s lovely. Fingers crossed we have the same with our little ones. My almost 3 y/o has already asked if she can help change nappies and get baby dressed x

Ss32 · 23/05/2023 12:06

@missrubi @katherine123x I’m the opposite. I was absolutely sure we were having a boy this time. It’s another girl 😂 I felt so guilty for calling her ‘him’ for the 10-12 weeks prior!

Chanteuse · 23/05/2023 13:22

I’ve had my 20w scan today and although everything that she checked looks fine, I’ve got to go back in a couple of weeks to check a couple of things. Baby was not cooperative at all and wouldn’t even show us he was a boy 🤦🏻‍♀️ so now I’m wondering if maybe he is a she 😩 he is so lazy - even after a 20 minute walk he’d moved about half an inch 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm feeling a bit anxious/deflated because I wanted to come away knowing he was okay and relax a bit for the rest of my pregnancy- now I have to wait to make sure he’s okay ☹️

AlongcameLainey · 23/05/2023 14:11

@Ss32 me too!!

I was 100% sure it was a boy. Even had a name picked and it’s another girl 😂

Summer022 · 23/05/2023 14:48

Anyone else yet to feel any movement at all? I’m 17+5 and have felt absolutely nothing. My symptoms have also dramatically reduced apart from slightly sore boobs and hardly any bump. Should I be concerned that I haven’t felt him move yet? Feeling worried about it ☹️ had a private scan at 16 weeks and he had a strong heartbeat.

OrionNebula · 23/05/2023 14:54

@Summer022 I don't think it's reason to be concerned, I think a lot of people don't feel anything until after 20 weeks. I started feeling faint movements from about 16 weeks but it was extremely sporadic at first which just created more anxiety for me!

missrubi · 23/05/2023 15:04

@katherine123x @Ss32 Just goes to show, instinct isn't always right. I guess I will just have to wait two more weeks.

peonygirl · 23/05/2023 15:20

@Summer022 I am the same, no proper bump and midwife is not concerned at all. Sonographer yesterday commented I am carrying low and it is totally normal at this stage. The baby was super active on a scan yesterday, literally wouldn't stop moving yet I didn't feel a thing. I have no flutters, nothing. I am 17+1 and my placenta is on the side. I think it will happen in due course but am giving myself till week 20 before I will start to worry :)

Smiffette · 23/05/2023 15:31

@Summer022 I'm 19 weeks today and have t felt anything. I'm not worried though, my placenta is at the front and was with my DD and don't remember feeling anything with her until 20-22 weeks I think it was.

I have my 20w scan on 1st June! Had a private scan at 17+5 and he was very active the.

MeganC104 · 23/05/2023 15:55

Movement has suddenly ramped up. I can really feel it now. This is a lot earlier than with my first. Also feels like they keep wedging their head in my hip

ForeverAndEvers · 23/05/2023 17:12

@AlongcameLainey I'm feeling good about it and think it'll work well for us. Sure there will be bumps in the road (toy sharing - the cat already gets told off for being too close to his toys!) but so pleased to hear it's worked so well for you @DancingNancies.

@OrionNebula 4 years sounds like it'll be perfect for you. I think all age gaps have their pros and cons and know siblings with all different age gaps who get on well.

ForeverAndEvers · 23/05/2023 17:15

@Chanteuse sorry to hear it didn't go as you expected - I know its easier said than done but try focus on the fact everything they saw looked fine. And on a positive it's another chance to see them in a few weeks! Hopefully they'll be in a more wiggly mode then and show everything off.

VanillaOat · 23/05/2023 18:05

What are everyone’s thoughts on the hypnobirthing courses/books? Those who have had previous babies, have any of you given it a go? First time mamas, are any of you going to look into it?

My SIL was so scared of birth but did a hypnobirthing course and said it was the most amazing experience ever.. And she didn’t particularly even have a smooth birth!
I think I might give it a go ❤️

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 23/05/2023 18:07

@MeganC104 baby is right in my hip too and has been for a couple of weeks but the pain he is causing being there has really ramped up the last few days

Hopefulx · 23/05/2023 18:10

@LaVitesse2022 I am also rhesus negative and the baby is positive. I received the anti d appointment in the same letter - it’s been booked for 28 weeks + 3 days. It says I have to have the 28 week blood test at least 3 days before but no longer than 6 days before which I found a bit strange and assume you will be the same. So I’m wondering will the midwife book the blood test when I see her at 25 weeks for the right days?

I would text your midwife and ask her to book your anti D injection so you know when it is otherwise it doesn’t give them much time to book it in when you next see them x

NSx · 23/05/2023 18:24

@Summer022 I am 18 weeks tomorrow and have not felt a thing. My placenta is at the back so technically I should feel everything at a normal rate, but have felt absolutely nothing!!

Has anyone had sore sinuses? Lately I’ve been feeling like my sinuses are sore? Unsure if it’s pregnancy related?

doeandfawn · 23/05/2023 19:11

@NSx very much yes on the sinuses; almost feels like I have developed a sudden allergy! Sneeze all the way through the first hour of the day.

LaVitesse2022 · 23/05/2023 19:18

@Hopefulx thank you, I think I'll have to call them and ask. Up until this week I had a "null report" and when I asked midwife she said I should book another blood test as the null thing was very odd. But they've updated it since. I don't have her direct number though, not sure if I've met her yet tbh, but will just ring the antenatal unit. My 25 week appt is with the GP so next time I see midwife will be at the 28w one, which as you say is around the time we should have the injection. So def need to call them in case it needs to be booked in advance.

Smiffette · 23/05/2023 19:30

@VanillaOat I did Hypnobirthing with my first and really liked it.
The lady was a working midwife so that was good too, she really clearly talked through and demonstrated the journey from contractions to birth and afterwards. For me that was so helpful as I'm quite a visual person and if I am clear what's happening then that relaxes me along with the different breathing and visualisation techniques

Hopefulx · 23/05/2023 19:35

@LaVitesse2022 strange it said null for so long but glad it’s updated now. I had a little google and the blood test before (3-6days) is to check that we haven’t built up any antibodies in our bloods and if we have we get extra monitoring/scans but hopefully neither of us need that 🤞🏽 yes definitely call and get it booked in advance - typical our babies have taken their daddy’s blood :D

OrionNebula · 23/05/2023 20:18

@NSx I'm signed off work with a nasty sinus infection at the moment. I'm prone to them and normally shrug them off easily enough but this has completely flattened me, I assume due to being pregnant 😞.

LaVitesse2022 · 23/05/2023 20:20

@Hopefulx ah that makes sense. Hahaha it's funny because that's what my partner jokingly said when I told him, that the baby took after him on the blood 😂 I guess he hasn't had many tangible signs yet that this baby is his in a visceral sense, so I suppose any similarities are a lovely reminder this also belongs to him 🙂

Sometimes I wonder what it must be like being on the other side. We get so engrossed with the pregnancy because it's literally happening to our bodies, but men don't get that at all yet there's a huge pressure for them to bond with their unborn baby straightaway. There must be feelings of powerlessness and even less out of their control than us...

Hopefulx · 23/05/2023 20:31

@LaVitesse2022 I completely agree! My husband said “see I knew she would be like me and be a daddy’s girl” 🤣🤣 he thinks that she is going to look like him now she has his blood type.

It’s definitely nice of them to feel involved though and it must be hard for them where they aren’t going through it.
Are you going to try and get your blood test booked in for the right time too? I think I will text my midwife this week and ask her to book it in otherwise the spots fill up!
