Hi , I’m 19 weeks pregnant tomorrow with my first baby and I haven’t felt her move yet and I’m worried 😖 the only thing I do feel is now and again a quick push on my bladder but it’s a quick second, is it her ? Should I be worried? I’m going for an ultrasound next week.

I didn’t feel anything until far later than that, it was nearer 23 weeks and nothing reliably until 25.
It will come!
To be honest I didn’t feel loads at all - DD wasn’t the most active of babies. No kicking in the ribs etc. Sometimes I could see her moving and not really feel it.

WeekendInTheBoondocks · 02/06/2023 04:45

I felt v little til 20 weeks, totally normal. Then BOOM, I was kicked and punched v hard every day until I gave birth! It was pretty painful, my little boy is v strong. Don’t worry, it will come 🥊

Imogensmumma · 02/06/2023 04:50

I’m the same I didn’t feel anything for a long time and even then I wasn’t sure if it was her or gas?!? 🤣🤣

As long as the scans are fine don’t panic very soon you will find yourself saying suddenly bent over in shock after yet another kick to the ribs

GoodbyeKyle · 02/06/2023 04:56

It's completely normal not to feel your first baby move until you're a few weeks past 20 weeks - please try not to worry. Also, it's hard to tell what is baby moving and what isn't, as you have no prior experience of this.

Do you have your 20 week scan soon? That will bring some reassurance 💛

Emelene · 02/06/2023 05:15

Do you know where your placenta is lying? I had an anterior placenta in my last pregnancy and it was explained to me as like a cushion at the front - very hard to feel baby’s movements. It felt completely different to my other pregnancy.

Al991 · 02/06/2023 07:01

This is extremely common and normal, try to not to worry! Stay away from social media sites etc where people claim to have huge bumps and feel proper kicks very early, for some this is the case but others it’s not. I had felt nothing at your stage and now at 26 weeks baby is kicking away. You’ll see your baby moving on the scan :)

chantie90 · 02/06/2023 09:55

Thank you so much everyone! This is making me feel better ! I’m going for my 19/20 week scan on Tuesday 💕

I had anterior placenta with both DSs and felt little to nothing until they were about 24 weeks. Don’t panic!

PickledScrump · 02/06/2023 10:05

It sounds like what you are feeling is baby. Many people don’t realise they are actually feeling baby move with their first and mistake it for gas. It’s also very normal not to feel anything until up to 24 weeks. Placenta position and baby’s position can also affect it.

CrotchetyQuaver · 02/06/2023 10:34

It's a long time ago now for me but I think when I was laid in the bath one time my belly was moving about and I could see that before I actually felt anything. As others have stated, it's "around now" rather that at 19 weeks you will feel the baby moving.

Namechangeed · 02/06/2023 10:36

Can take a few more weeks. I had felt LO around 18/19 weeks. My cousin had her placenta at the front and she hardly felt her baby for a long time. All was fine though 🙂

People describe it as "fluttering butterflies" but for me I would say it was more akin to bubbling wind! 🦋💨

VintedoreBay · 02/06/2023 11:03

First I felt at 17w, second I felt at 24w.

Felt like popping popcorn to me!

Smiffette · 03/06/2023 18:47

I'm the same with the anterior placenta with my first and don't remember feeling baby until 22 ish weeks and even then it wasn't big movements or regularly. Every scan she was very active though!

Same with this pregnancy now so I'm not worried, 24 weeks is the cut off for when I would say something to my midwife

Olivia199 · 03/06/2023 19:16

Another anterior placenta here.
I could feel her just about at 23 weeks, but only if I laid on my stomach and really concentrated.

I moaned for ages that I wished I got more kicks and it was obviously my placenta. But two friends from the antenatal group had posterior placenta and still didn't feel anything until 22 weeks (though they didn't have to lay on their tummy).

It's perfectly normal not to feel them yet, especially with your first!

Good luck for your anatomy scan! My midwife put my mind at rest when I said I couldn't feel anything, so if you're really concerned you can always talk to them!

SPR40 · 04/06/2023 13:32

Hiya I support the wind comments, it felt like trapped gas bubbles popping for me. I didn't realise until I had my scan and saw the movements at the same time as feeling them that that feeling was actually the baby moving. First proper kick style movements were until a few weeks later, and even now at 28 weeks baby has lazy days. I also have anterior placenta so movements can be muffled 😊 enjoy your scan xxx

Felicia00 · 04/06/2023 13:34

First pregnancy you don't feel it until much later because it can feel like wind its hard to tell. I had phantom kicks after dd was born for years because yes wind can feel like kicks.

Rainispeace · 04/06/2023 18:04

I got to 19 weeks and literally overnight it was like a switch, he’s a wriggler ! Hang in there

if you have worries you can always seek reassurance at your 20 week scan. Feeling them move is all about where the placenta is etc

pinkpirlie · 04/06/2023 21:50

I didn't feel anything on this pregnancy (#1) until over 22 weeks and even then could have been easily confused with digestive feelings.
Even now at 24+3 some days I get one or two very light feelings that could easily be missed, other days I get more.
I have anterior placenta which mutes the sensations to a large degree whilst baby is still small with lots of room to move.

Hope the scan goes well.

chantie90 · 15/06/2023 04:15

Hi ! First time mum. I am 20 weeks and o felt my baby but this week I haven’t felt her at all ! I’m really worried and had some cramping and went to the hospital last night and they got a heart beat but I still haven’t felt her ! What can it be ??

OP posts:
PickledScrump · 15/06/2023 04:24

@chantie90 baby is still small enough for them to move into a position where you can’t feel them. Some people don’t feel baby at all until 24 weeks and midwives will ask you to monitor movements from 28 weeks. So you are still very early and may still be a while before you are feeling regular movement

Becu · 15/06/2023 04:46

I was worried when I hadn't felt mine yet at 20 weeks. I had my ultrasound at 21 weeks and still didn't feel him but I could see him kicking very actively, so I thought maybe he's just still too small. The day after the ultrasound I started feeling him for a couple of days, then nothing again until week 25 when he started really kicking and twisting and he hasn't stopped since! I'm 27 now. I never had the butterfly/bubble phase though... So don't worry, your baby will kick!!

shivawn · 15/06/2023 06:02

I'm 18 weeks in to my second pregnancy and haven't felt movements yet. I'm not worried about it.

Alstoybarn · 15/06/2023 06:07

Normal. Especially with first! I was around 25 weeks
