@RamonaBadwolf it honestly depends on your GP wether they'll order a blood test, sone might say to test again in a weeks time, they don't understand how long a week feels though!

CastleWindow · 22/04/2023 20:56

Hi all!

I'm 33, 6+3 based on LMP so I think due mid December. First pregnancy.

So far the biggest symptom has been feeling more tired through the day then falling asleep 2 hours earlier every evening. Some nausea which I think is getting worse.

I also keep worrying about an MMC! I'm not sure whether to have an early scan because the RCOG recommend against scans 'before 10 weeks gestation' (unless clinically indicated) - so I might wait until I'm 10 weeks, though not sure is 10 week gestation = 10 weeks pregnant (based on LMP) or 10 weeks since conception (so around the time of the NHS 12 week scan anyway). Does anyone know?

DaisyMay25 · 22/04/2023 20:58

@CastleWindow can I asked why the RCOG reccomended against scans before 10 weeks? My son was ivf and the clinic did a scan at 6 weeks and 9 weeks as standard

There's a summary here with a link to the RCOG paper -
RCOG recommend no scans before 10 weeks - MAMA Academy

@CastleWindow that article is 8 years old, I personally wouldn't take it into account. Science makes huge progress in even small amount of times so I don't tend to ready things published that long ago. Of course that's just my opinion 😂
It even says in the first sentence that there's no evidence early scans cause any damage.
I am interested though so will ask a few sonographers at work.

SMG1992 · 22/04/2023 21:22

@DaisyMay25 let us know the feedback from sonogrsphers please, definitely interested to know why it wouldn’t be recommended

PhyllisVance23 · 22/04/2023 21:28

@DaisyMay25 yes please let us know their opinions.

That's true but RCOG haven't published any updates since then, and I can't find information about any subsequent research online - but I might be looking in the wrong places. It does says there's no evidence of harm, but that just means (as of 2015) there is no evidence either way.

I do think given these scans are so popular, the risk (if any) must be very small and the benefits from reassurance might outweigh any risks, but I'm just not sure really.

Please do let us know what the sonographers at your work say as if there is more current research I'll get myself booked in 😊

@SighthoundLover Just catching up on the thread and seen your post. I’m 5 + 3 with no symptoms whatsoever apart from now slightly enlarged boobs and sensitive nipples. Also find it a bit worrying but I know everyone is different with these things. 1st pregnancy too!

smldnlove · 22/04/2023 22:24

@Mushroo finding not drinking so hard! Had a bridesmaid gathering today for my wedding with friends and family and free flowing booze! Had to buy myself a non alcoholic fizz and sneakily keep topping myself up. Worked today, so could try that?

it is exhausting! Hoping I can get away with it for my hen do next weekend!!!

wannabemum38 · 22/04/2023 23:23

@smldnlove I know the feeling. Had a wedding catch up with my parents who don't know yet and the best man. My OH bought me alcohol free Heineken which I prefer taste of anyway to other beers so got away with it. Really wanted to tell them but want to wait for scan next week all fingers and toes crossed its OK. I was so tired aswell halfway through day and normally been having a nap late afternoon but my folks left really late so am heading to bed now watching an episode of MAFS to chill out!

HannahLouD · 22/04/2023 23:29

Went out to a friends this evening (cannot believe I'm still awake!!! The nap this afternoon will have helped I guess Haha)... It was just 3 of us and I didn't realise they were doing a whole cheese and cold meats platter and wine... I thought it was actual dinner 😶 I obviously said no to the wine but I had some salami and parma ham because I figured the risk of anything is surely so low and people in Spain/Italy etc. Surely do it all the time? I didn't want to completely give myself away... If I didn't have any I'd literally just be eating cheese all night and I was so hungry 😭😂 but now I am properly freaking out because the NHS website says cured meats are a no no... Ugh. Has anyone else eaten these things? Do I need to be super worried? I feel so stupid right now :( x

RordonGamsey · 23/04/2023 00:44

I'm 7 weeks. I've felt so tired today and achey all over, but also a bit achey in my lower belly. It's giving me anxiety. But I also think I'm a bit gassy and dehydrated so that could account for that. I wish I could just have a constant view into my womb to see whats going on 😭 I only had my early scan on monday and I'm already wanting another! I can't wait to get past the "danger zone".

99SR · 23/04/2023 06:30

@HannahLouD i can’t remember if it was on this thread but someone said that people in Europe aren’t told to give up cured meats so it can’t be that bad! Don’t worry. Plus people eat and drink everything before they find out and they are always told it’s fine! The risk will be really low.

99SR · 23/04/2023 06:32

I’m also worried RE drinking alcohol. I have my friends wedding next week and the minute I say I’m not drinking everyone will guess and I think a few of my close friends will probably ask. I don’t want to tell them anything until the early scan at the very earliest. I might try and ask the bar to put my lemonade in a gin glass 🤣

smldnlove · 23/04/2023 07:00

@wannabemum38 Ah exciting!! When is your wedding? It’s difficult isn’t it. We’ve told both our mums now just because of the wedding it changes a lot and we have so much coming up the next few weeks. When would your scan be? It’s so hard keeping it a secret, I feel so guilty!! 😅

smldnlove · 23/04/2023 07:05

Woken up feeling very crampy and slight nausea, which is new. Did eat about 12 celebrations last night so could be that 🤣

Still debating whether to do a 6-week scan next week. Is anyone doing a scan this early, is it only GP advised or due to previous history that you would?

Mushroo · 23/04/2023 07:26

@smldnlove @wannabemum38 @99SR glad it’s not just me struggling with it! Also binging MAFS!

Wedding stuff is even trickier, I feel for you all. I find the AF beer really good, but requires engineering me or DH going to the bar without anyone else tagging along, and decanting into a glass without anyone noticing. Each night out is like a bloody covert operation. Can’t wait until it’s out there.

Im supposed to be going to a wine tasting soon but will have to come up with a reason for my non-attendance.

I freaked out last night as has some very pale pink spotting. From googling it’s normal and it’s all fine today (apart from waking up again at 6am 🙄), but my god, i didn’t need that stress. I’m glad I’m on holiday next week to take my mind off everything.

bringmearainbow · 23/04/2023 07:34

I got married last year when I was 9 weeks pregnant and we had only very few immediate family but not everyone. I had a glass of wine at my table which I pretended to drink from and whenever anyone said to me can I buy you a drink I said I wasn't drinking as wanted to remember the day properly. It's not unusual for brides to do that no one batted an eyelid at it. Also on the day you'll be surprised how quick it goes and people are honestly too busy having a good time to clock if you're drinking or not don't forget there are many many things you have to do that you wouldn't have a drink in your hand for it sorts out the majority of the day it's really only the evening and by then guests are usually too drunk and self absorbed to notice what you're doing 😂

Mushroo · 23/04/2023 07:37

@bringmearainbow definitely. On my wedding I was drinking but even then I didn’t drink until the evening because I didn’t want to get tired early. So not unheard of if anyone wants an excuse!

Pitstop1986 · 23/04/2023 08:59

If you've got a glass in your hand, people don't usually comment, and if someone wants to buy you a drink, just say you've got one! Lemonade or tonic water in a gin glass, alcohol free beer, or a mocktail. You just need to get to the bar without anyone noticing!

SighthoundLover · 23/04/2023 09:04

@Moriquendi Thank you that’s really reassuring to hear. Hopefully you get lucky again on this pregnancy 🤞Hope you recovered from your stomach bug

Charlielechat · 23/04/2023 09:10

Morning everyone! Feeling a bit deflated this morning. Been tracking my LH values on ovulation sticks (they can't differentiate between LH and HCG apparently). And it's down from 2.7 yesterday to 1.7 this morning. With my last chemical pregnancy my LH started to drop each day before I started to bleed😞I'm not sure if my pregnancy test is lighter than yesterday either, and my BPM hasn't risen since yesterday. Boobs are still tender but not as sore as they have been. Will have to wait until tomorrow to see if anything changes, but just feel like I'm going to be worrying now for the rest of the day. Looking at the pic, do you think today's is lighter?

Due December 2023 part 2
PhyllisVance23 · 23/04/2023 09:19

@Charlielechat it doesn't look lighter to me, if anything fractionally darker! x

DaisyMay25 · 23/04/2023 09:19

@Charlielechat I think they look about the sale which is normal. It takes 2-3 days for hcg levels to rise. It's so hard to test I told myself no more but I've tested this morning 🤦🏼‍♀️ I try and leave at least two days between them though.
I also think some cheap ones only get so dark
