@Mushroo No unfortunately not. The a&e people were fine and from who I've met at antenatal they were lovely its just the epu. I found them bad when I lost my last baby very cold and unsympathetic and clinical. Was hoping wouldn't have to deal with them again.

Mushroo · 13/05/2023 11:33

@wannabemum38 thats so rubbish, especially if that’s the only one you can use. Hopefully you won’t be seeing them too much, sounds as though the maternity / delivery side might be a bit better at least.

SunSparkle · 13/05/2023 14:50

Feeling sorry for myself today. Toddler is poorly and j feel so fatigued and so nauseous. I got some tablets from the doctor but they seem to stop me vomiting but the nausea is constant and off the scale so I’m going to call Monday to try something else.

the tablets I had last time helped the nausea but not the vomiting. Feel I can’t win. But the nausea is so bad I don’t want to eat or drink which makes it worse.

also my toddler is clinging to me every time I try to rest and getting upset as she thinks something is wrong with me.

Flowers90 · 13/05/2023 15:06

@SunSparkle. My toddler is poorly too. Think she has a d and v bug. I've done nothing but change nappies. Absolutely exhausted and my nausea is awful again. My little one has just decided she needs a cuddle in bed. Currently led upstairs with her hoping I don't get ill. ----

SunSparkle · 13/05/2023 15:09

@Flowers90 you poor thing! And your daughter too. I know the fear when d and v comes into the house and you’re hoping you don’t get it. Hope you both feel better soon.

mine has a bad cough and a cold but she just feels very sorry for herself and keeps coughing g herself awake so she’s overtired and whingey

Flowers90 · 13/05/2023 15:34

@SunSparkle . Bless you too. Its awful isn't it. My little one started 2 days ago with coughing and snotty but she has ongoing issues and we have 6 weekly cycles of her having respiratory illnesses and daily noisy breathing even when well for which we are under a respiratory team. It's the d and v that's started today that's getting her down.and like you say its the worry it will spread to others in the house.

Hope your little one is better soon and you manage to get some rest.

I’ve just started on b6 supplementation this afternoon and i have to say I think it’s helping. I’ve also ordered a bottle of milk of magnesia as that’s supposed to help too.

Midwife called and said my urine tested positive for group B strep so I need antibiotics for that and may likely need Iv antibiotics in labour too (which would mean a midwife led water birth was probably out of the question). Feeling a bit sad about it.

Charlielechat · 13/05/2023 19:20

@SunSparkle I take B6 as I was taking it before I conceived as well! How many mg are you on? Maybe that's why I haven't really had any sickness!
I also tested positive for Strep B a while ago too - wasn't sure what it meant in terms of the kind of birth I could have! My booking appointment isn't until 12 weeks so will have to wait til then to see.

SunSparkle · 13/05/2023 19:40

@Charlielechat im trying 25mg 4 times a day as that’s the dose I read a clinical paper on (I love evidence and data!)

I think there’s 10mg in my prenatal vitamin too.

basically if you’ve got group B strep they want to put you on Iv antibiotics during labour so you need an IV in and to be on a drip. This means you can’t labour in a birthing pool but might be able to be midwife led depending on the trust and any other risk factors. I want to find out if I clear up the group B strep now with antibiotics does that mean I definitely have to have them during birth.

I won’t risk my baby’s health - the complications from a newborn getting group B strep are horrendous but I would prefer to labour without an IV if possible as I didn’t like it last time. I will ask for options at a future midwife appointment and then do some research as well to make an informed choice

Charlielechat · 13/05/2023 20:45

@SunSparkle that's interesting! I take 50mg once a day and my prenatal as 10mg as well.

I remember when the doctor had told me I had strep B they didn't seem very concerned about it at all, but the NHS website makes it sound very scary! That's disappointing you can't have your water birth, but hopefully the other options will be OK!

DaisyMay25 · 13/05/2023 22:03

@SunSparkle that's very interesting! My trust takes part in a trial now where ladies are tested at around 36 weeks for group b strep. They leave it so late because it can come and go, so if you have it now it might not even be active in labour, it's a strange one!
Antibiotics are offered so that it passing to baby is minimised as if baby gets it can become quite poorly

wannabemum38 · 14/05/2023 00:08

@SunSparkle my trust do it differently too basically swab you after labour to see if you are a carrier and then give you and baby antibiotics if you are.

SunSparkle · 14/05/2023 07:18

@wannabemum38 and @DaisyMay25 that’s so interesting. I’m definitely going to talk to the midwife and consultant then because if I can just be tested before or after birth that would make a huge difference as I understand it comes and goes.

I will obviously more than happily have an IV in labour to keep baby safe as I know the consequences of group B strep can be absolutely awful in rare circumstances but if I’m not carrying it before birth it doesn’t seem necessary.

Peaceandloves · 14/05/2023 07:44

@SunSparkle I really hope you get an updated test closer to labour. I found it really frustrating having birth choices taken away from me even though we would always do what's best or necessary for baby's safety. It took me a long time to make peace with the birth.

I can't believe we have nearly filled this second thread! God knows what number we might be on by the time the babies are arriving!

Justanothercyster · 14/05/2023 08:06

Oh I've not heard of the strep B being tested by wee thing. Interesting.

I'm feeling quite anxious this morning, I was really suffering with the sickness but in the last week it's just disappeared. I'm thankful but obviously my mind is telling me the worst has happened and I don't know how to stop thinking that 😣

Pitstop1986 · 14/05/2023 10:08

My nausea comes and goes. Sometimes I'll have a day or two where I don't feel too bad, although the last couple of days I've felt awful with it!

Thamantha · 14/05/2023 10:21

I am the same with nausea, it went away for a few days and has now come back in force. Weirdly I missed it when it was away as other than peeing on a stick a month ago it is the only sign of pregnancy I have.

DaisyMay25 · 14/05/2023 10:56

I feel human again, nausea seems to have settled, it worries me a little but it's been four days since I started the tablets so it could be them finally working. Having a few little cramps but nothing too worrying.

We test group b strep by a swab, vaginal and rectal but I'm not sure how other areas do it

Moriquendi · 14/05/2023 11:48

Bit of random question: has anyone brought their toddler to the booking in appointment? Or seen other people with children at the booking in appointment? I’ve looked everywhere and it doesn’t say I can’t bring him? (It makes it clear on the scan letter that children aren’t allowed but nothing on my midwife one?) I’ve got a Velcro 14 month old and no-one to leave him with on that date. Just worried the midwives will be annoyed!

Justanothercyster · 14/05/2023 11:51

Nausea back. Spoke too soon. Ugh.

@Moriquendi I brought mine, they're used to it

Moriquendi · 14/05/2023 11:53

@Justanothercyster Phew!! That’s good! Thank you 😊 Appointment on Tuesday -here we come!

Moriquendi · 14/05/2023 11:57

Oops, posted to soon! Meant to say the nausea sounds so difficult @Justanothercyster . Hope it subsides soon (maybe just before your 12 week scan so then you’ll know everything is ok!)

Flowers90 · 14/05/2023 12:30

I'm feeling more human today but am working and half.the team have asked if I'm pregnant today.

@Moriquendi. I asked about taking my toddler to the booking appt as was worried about sorting childcare. Was told.it wasn't ideal as it's a long appointment but if I needed to just take smelting to keep her entertained

DaisyMay25 · 14/05/2023 12:43

@Moriquendi ideally not but children are allowed to appointments that aren't scans.

@Justanothercyster I spoke too soon too mines hit me with a vengeance, at least it gave me a morning off 😂

Mushroo · 14/05/2023 13:17

I know I sound ungrateful but I still feel fine (stayed up till 1am watching Eurovision, out for Mexican brunch today) and I’d like to feel a bit more shit!

Going for a scan on Saturday to ease my mind a bit
