I have to get the glucose test because of my bmi - not looking forward to it! I also have to get growth scans and speak to a consultant.

peonygirl · 12/05/2023 21:36

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway I am also in West Yorkshire :)

LWestYorks · 12/05/2023 21:36

@peonygirl @firstlittlefrazzleontheway me too! Where abouts? X

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 12/05/2023 21:38

@peonygirl @LWestYorks I'm Huddersfield what about you guys?

LWestYorks · 12/05/2023 21:39

@peonygirl @firstlittlefrazzleontheway halifax :-)

Has anyone been put on iron tablets? I have as my iron stores are low, I’ve been getting incredibly dizzy and headaches. Really hoping they kick in soon x

peonygirl · 12/05/2023 21:46

@LWestYorks @firstlittlefrazzleontheway I am in Bradford.

I am taking iron tables because I am generally anaemic. I take them as part of general supplements so not a high dose because I was so sick in the early stages of pregnancy. I am waiting for blood test results to see if I need a higher dosage. If your iron reserves are really low it will take a bit before you'll feel better but you can add stuff to your diet - red meat, beetroot, dark chocolate, dark greens...

cruciverbalista · 12/05/2023 21:47

@EMcG3 This is interesting. Did you say you have boys already? I'm the Jewish one so it's all on me-- probably the only one within a 30 minute radius too, haha. I think my family does expect me to carry the torch with language, holidays etc so we'll see what happens I guess.

SillyOldBear3 · 12/05/2023 22:25

katherine123x · 12/05/2023 07:32

@SillyOldBear3 have you felt anything again yet?

@katherine123x I can't really be sure to be honest I occasionally feels fluttering but could just be gas! 🙈 I'm wondering if the 'kicks' I felt last week were actually baby 🤷‍♀️ have you felt much?

Saturnsmoon · 12/05/2023 23:03

@cruciverbalista @EMcG3 I’m in a similar boat except that my husband and I don’t agree, which feels like a bigger issue. He’s Jewish and I am not and it’s a really big deal for him to have a potential son circumcised. Personally I would rather not but am also not sure it’s a hill am willing to die on as he feels so strongly about it. Think his family would also expect it but I care less about that to be honest 🙈. Part of me just hopes this baby is a girl so if becomes a non issue but as luck would have it I’m pretty convinced this one is a boy. I’m sure we’ll figure it out but it definitely plays on my mind a bit.

EMcG3 · 13/05/2023 07:14

@cruciverbalista @Saturnsmoon - oh, yeah, it was fraught. My first child is a girl and I was so relieved as I just did not want to be asked by EVERYONE what we were planning to do.

@Saturnsmoon I wouldn't choose circumcision but my husband is strongly opposed, so it is a battle he will have with his family. It sounds like doing it might be a hill your husband is willing to die on?
@cruciverbalista - how comfortable are you in the culture and language? My husband speaks only Hebrew with our daughter, but it is his first language and so I don't think he finds it a burden. Figuring out how to do holidays in the UK in a way he feels good about is a way bigger burden.

katherine123x · 13/05/2023 07:45

@SillyOldBear3 I bet they were. Not much from me the last few days either!

cruciverbalista · 13/05/2023 07:50

Ah crap, I started typing a whole message and it disappeared :(

@Saturnsmoon - I can see how this would be important to him as he's cut, and it's what he's used to managing/taking care of, and every time he changes the baby it'll cross his mind. This is tricky!

@EMcG3 - So my parents are Israeli so Hebrew is my first language too, but I was raised in the States (yes, doxing myself here a bit) and partner is English so it's a language I barely ever use atm. Growing up bilingual was amazing for me and I'd love to offer that to my kids but realistically they won't be getting fluency through me, but I definitely want to expose them as much as I can. My family was a lot more heritage/racially Jewish than religious Jewish when I was raised, too. Your husband sounds a bit like my uncle, who is Israeli and married a Londoner - their oldest speaks Hebrew but the other two don't really at all.

Speaking of multilinguality, actually, is anyone else hoping to teach their baby baby sign language, or knows anything about it? I've heard they are able to control their hands MUCH earlier than vocalizations and I'd really love to learn more about it so I can help my baby communicate asap!

Alexandra07 · 13/05/2023 08:03

@cruciverbalista I tried to teach my daughter some baby sign language. They are supposed to learn the sign language before they are able to talk and then they can communicate without being frustrated that you don't understand what they want. In our case I tried to teach her words like water, food, more, sleep, yes, no. I had most things available for her anyway so she could point at them. It didn't make a big difference in our lives and anyway she was mobile and could get what she needed i by 12 months. She started speaking early too. She didn't use as much the sign language.

Alexandra07 · 13/05/2023 08:06

@cruciverbalista just to add, there are a lot of resources online, and I imagine that some children will learn quicker than others. I can see the benefits, and worth trying, but don't get stressed about it if there is no or slow progress, once they move and talk, you won't need the sign language.

EMcG3 · 13/05/2023 11:28

@cruciverbalista - yes, your situation sounds a bit trickier than ours linguistically. We are set up more like your uncle, though I am also an immigrant, albeit native English speaking. Our eldest won't speak much in Hebrew but is fluent in her understanding. I'm hoping that spending time with her non-English speaking cousins will spur speaking. She is 3 and the eldest of the set of cousins.

We also have set up YouTube kids to be Hebrew only channels so all cartoons in our house are also a small language lesson.

Summer022 · 13/05/2023 12:58

Found out we’re having a baby boy 🥹💙 So excited xx

NSx · 13/05/2023 13:25

@Summer022 congratulations that is lovely! Did you have any inkling?

cruciverbalista · 13/05/2023 13:30

@Summer022 congrats!

@Alexandra07 Thanks for this - really helpful to hear and good to get a reality check on it too.

@EMcG3 I love that idea with the cartoons!

katherine123x · 13/05/2023 14:40

@Summer022 congratulations! Fellow boy mama xx

LWestYorks · 13/05/2023 15:58

Afternoon ladies, I’m suffering with really bad brain fog…I actually feel like I’m floating if that’s a way to put it sometimes. Could that be down to low iron? Ive been on iron tablets but only for 3 days. The feeling isn’t nice at all :-(

doeandfawn · 13/05/2023 16:06

@Summer022 congratulations on your news!!

@LWestYorks the floaty feeling I definitely relate to, it was really bad right before my anemia got picked up so could be.

ttcttc · 13/05/2023 18:42

NSx · 12/05/2023 12:55

@ttcttc I finally got my screening results back today at my appt ….

1 in 23,831 for DS
1 in 100,000 for P&E … she said those are really good results so thank God. So annoying I had to wait so long for these 🙄

Sorry NS I've not been on much, they are good results. Mine were 1 in 8517 for ds and 1 in 50,000 for P and E. I know they're still good but I'm worried everyone else's seem to be "better" x

LaVitesse2022 · 13/05/2023 19:06

@Summer022 congrats! 🤩💙

katherine123x · 13/05/2023 20:17

On the 4th day of no sickeness here. Which is unreal!!! After feeling and being sick so for so long the relief is unbelievable. !

NSx · 13/05/2023 20:19

@ttcttc I get what you mean but remember it’s depending on many factors like age etc. so if you are older than someone else your numbers may not seem as good if that makes sense: I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to worry too much.
how are you ? Xx
