@LaVitesse2022 I genuinely do not have a gut feeling. I have no idea who is in there except that they are vegetarian lol. My family thinks girl though, fwiw.

NSx · 12/05/2023 16:18

@peonygirl thats fair, I’m going for a scan/whooping cough vaccine in 4 weeks, I will ask about this then I guess. Kicking myself I didn’t ask this morning 😂😂😂

@LaVitesse2022 I had an NIPT done, is it possible they maybe already know my babies blood type? Because I definitely wasn’t offered a blood test to check?

LaVitesse2022 · 12/05/2023 16:21

@cruciverbalista hahaha is that because you've gone off meat? : D

I also don't have any gut feeling. I have a slight preference for a boy, just because I would like the challenge of raising one. I feel like I know next to nothing about them and my day job is very female-oriented so would be a nice change :) DP has no preference. Will be a joy either way of course

LaVitesse2022 · 12/05/2023 16:24

@NSx ah maybe, I think it's the same type of test (cell free fetal DNA test). Did you do it private or through the NHS? If it was private they may not have your results - I don't think NHS and private clinics share results. My midwife knew nothing about my early scan for instance and it's nowhere on my NHS records.

NSx · 12/05/2023 16:38

@LaVitesse2022 no, my NIPT was NHS so they would have full results. So possibly they know my babies blood type? What do you think?

LaVitesse2022 · 12/05/2023 16:40

@NSx in that case I think they would. If they're going straight for the injection maybe baby is positive. But I would definitely ask.

Summer022 · 12/05/2023 16:41

Mine was the same, I’m Rhesus Negative so they are going to do a blood test next week to see if baby is Rh positive or negative and then determine whether I’ll need the injection.

@NSx how lovely to have a recording of the heartbeat! I should have done that too, what a special memory to keep. ❤️

Greetingsfellows · 12/05/2023 16:54

Hi all. My first post on this thread. Prompted by the GD discussion. Just wanted to say a couple of things.

  1. With my first child (in London) they wanted me to do the drinking test because my dad is type 2 diabetic. I had to chase and chase and chase. The midwife I saw filled in the paperwork and chased it at three separate appointments (with me in the room!) I ended up having it 8 weeks late! If you are expecting to have it, particulalry if you are high risk, make sure you are aware that you might need to chase it. Don't rely on hospital admin if you are worried.

  2. Because of my previous experience, I asked about the test at my booking appointment this time (now outside of London). They said I don't need to have it because my dad was diagnosed when he was over 50. They said that I can REQUEST it nearer the time, if I want it, but they wouldn't do it as standard. It may be different depending on the area you are in and their standards may be different. As extra information, I was over 35 during my first pregnancy so I'm definitely over 35 this time!

NSx · 12/05/2023 17:26

@LaVitesse2022 I will ask next time I see someone at the hospital in 4 weeks - thanks for the info 💗

@Summer022 it is really lovely 💗 I’ve sent it to my mum and family aswell as my partner 🤍 I’m sure you can ask at your next appt x x

cruciverbalista · 12/05/2023 18:39

@LaVitesse2022 Yeah I'm totally off meat haha. I can definitely see those positives about a boy, I feel less knowledgeable about boys too. Do you have any other kids? My only qualm about a boy is I'll have to defend my choice not to circumsize him to my family (Jewish), but that doesn't feel like reason enough to have a gender preference by any means. We are more prepared name-wise for a girl but not by much.

@Greetingsfellows Thanks for this!

@NSx I only thought to record the heartbeat 45 minutes after the midwife left. Wish I had done so as my husband missed it. I'll try to remember if I get another chance! It was really cool to hear it.

Ss32 · 12/05/2023 18:40

Can anyone remember when you need the whooping cough vaccine? I can’t remember and can’t be bothered to get up and find my folder 😂 it’s been a busy week!

cruciverbalista · 12/05/2023 18:42

@Ss32 Anytime between 16 and 30 weeks I believe :)

peonygirl · 12/05/2023 18:46

@Ss32 From NHS webpage: From 16 weeks, you'll be offered the whooping cough vaccine. The best time to have this vaccine is after your scan, up to 32 weeks. But if for any reason you miss the vaccine, you can still have it up until you go into labour.

NSx · 12/05/2023 18:57

@cruciverbalista my midwife was really lovely and actually told me I could record it, she prompted me or I probably would have been too shy to ask. It’s a lovely little keepsake, you will definitely get another chance for sure 🤍

pangolin84 · 12/05/2023 19:37

Weighing in on the gestational diabetes debate. According to the NHS website they should be using 40 as the cut off, not 35. This gives a list of what counts as higher risk:

LaVitesse2022 · 12/05/2023 19:40

@cruciverbalista I see how that would be a concern if you have a boy. This will be my first so have nothing to compare it against :)

Thanks @pangolin84 ! I had seen that list and it gave me the impression that they only offered the test if you had at least one of those risk factors

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 12/05/2023 20:46

@LaVitesse2022 I'm getting bloods on Monday to check babies blood type but midwife hasn't said whether I'll hear anything.

Had my midwife appointment today, got booked in for my next appointment which is at 25 weeks.

My 20 week scan is next Friday, I can't wait to see baby boy again but also sad that it will probably be the last scan until he's born

pangolin84 · 12/05/2023 20:47

@LaVitesse2022 Yes. It’s a bit worrying there’s quite a lot of variability in how different places operate. I’m 38 and have no other risk factors. They haven’t offered it to me and if they did I would probably refuse. I just can’t justify fasting for so long and then ingesting that amount of sugar all at once for no good reason. I need evidence for why they need to do it. And I’d probably hurl 🤷‍♀️

LaVitesse2022 · 12/05/2023 20:56

@pangolin84 I feel exactly the same way! If I've got no risk factors, why go through that awful test? People say 'oh, you'll suffer worse than that in labour etc'. That's true, but that doesn't mean we need to suffer additionally and needlessly...

LaVitesse2022 · 12/05/2023 21:00

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway theres a couple of people having their 20w scan next Friday. Good luck, I hope it all goes well 😃 It's strange isn't it, to then spend half of pregnancy not checking in on our little ones! I seems so odd that the way they'll monitor growth of baby is by measuring belly. Seems like such a rudimentary method! 😅

cruciverbalista · 12/05/2023 21:05

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway Really, this is the last scan? I'm expecting more but due to monitoring my fibroids.

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 12/05/2023 21:06

@LaVitesse2022 my midwife said at my appointment today that they don't start measuring bumps until 28 weeks which surprised me

LaVitesse2022 · 12/05/2023 21:10

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway I received a growth chart to plot baby's growth at the 16w appt. It starts at 24 weeks so I assumed they started then but actually it says they start 26-28 weeks so in line with what your midwife said

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 12/05/2023 21:10

@LaVitesse2022 I wonder if I will get a chart too, I hope so but I know all trusts are different

I'm West Yorkshire not sure if anyone else is

EMcG3 · 12/05/2023 21:13

@cruciverbalista - ohhh, the circumcision issue! So glad I am not alone in this. We are having a boy and will not circumcise but will undoubtedly spend the next 5 years being asked about whether we did, or not, and why. I do not relish it. But also, our kids aren't Jewish (on my account) despite being raised as secular Jewish kids with strong ties, linguistic and otherwise, to the motherland.
