@skywayavenue thank you so much for the reassurance! I would like to do the domino scheme but i am not in one of the eligible areas unfortunately. But i am hoping I can do midwife led at another clinic and dont have to go into the hospital for each visit (thats what a friend in my area did, but i'm confused by all the different schemes, i havent read about this option anywhere yet). How long do mothers usually have to stay after a vaginal birth? I was discharged after 2 days with my first but that was only because they hadnt done all the necessary checks on my baby the first day and then a midwife visits at home. Do you not get any midwife visits at home here unless you are domino? (so sorry for all the questions!!!!)

@iloveeggs @skywayavenue @Seekingadviceplz nice to have some other Irish ladies on here! I'm on public system with Holles Street (although had private scans and NIPT) . Had last baby there too and I have to say I had amazing care, right through to breastfeeding support after birth. However I know a few others who had a terrible time in Holles St so really seems to be the luck of the draw.

Not sure if any of you have VHI - I have through work, haven't bothered with private for the appointments and birth itself as was told pretty much the only advantage is maybe getting a private room for birth and that is far from guaranteed as just depends on availability. But they had a really brilliant post-natal scheme where I got 3 extra home visits from a midwife & phone support after that as well. Will definitely use that again.

They run some satellite clinics too, which are generally ran by the midwives. This is different to full domino care I think. I'm actually not sure about the midwife visits - I know they do an early transfer home scheme as well so it's possibly part of that. Again that's specific to particular areas though. I think its generally 24- 48 hours in hospital after a vaginal birth

@skywayavenue @Seekingadviceplz I'm also the Coombe! What date are you due? Who knows, could end up beside each other yet!

...meant to add, I'm due 15th October

iloveeggs · 13/04/2023 14:25

@OrionNebula I've heard much better things about the care in Dublin hospitals. I actually travel to the coombe from Limerick for gyne care and considered it for antenatal with my gyne up there but I was so sick when I got pregnant I couldn't face the drive up/down for every scan.

Also have VHI. I actually have a widwife service that I've signed up for, you get 3 consultations before birth & 4 postnatal. Very handy for extra education or just the chats, not sure if it's plan specific or not.

It's my first so I'll take all the help I can get.

OrionNebula · 13/04/2023 14:55

@iloveeggs I didn't know they did antenatal support too, I must check my package and see if that's covered.

Another question - does anyone have any recommendations for good maternity tights? The ones I had last time (I think they were mothercare) were awful and I threw them away!

PrimarilyParented · 13/04/2023 15:01

@Klex i got ones that didn’t make it live but they were essential as my ds was obsessed with sockets and wires.

monsteramunch · 13/04/2023 16:07

Just got back from our NHS scan - 13+4 confirmed and everything looking great! Cannot BELIEVE how much little one was moving, I had no idea it could be that much!

Sonographer was so lovely and took time to explain everything. She asked if we're planning to find out the sex and we said definitely but we don't mind either way at all. She said she only asked as she is as sure as she can be at this stage that we're having a girl but of course she could be wrong!

We both had a gut feeling little one is a girl so time will tell but as I say, we're (obviously) smitten either way. The plus is that we have a girl's name we love so if that is correct, we are sorted on that front!

Meant to work til 6pm now but too excited to concentrate Smile

Loving all the scan pics! I had mine yesterday. Was a relief to see the heartbeat after my previous mc. Only thing That worried me was my chance of the baby having downs, it was 1 in 371. The population risk for my age is actually 1 in 115 (I'm 38) but it's really worried me! They said I'm not classed as high risk so no further tests offered. My sons risk 3 years ago was 1 in over 5000 so there's a big difference. I've booked a private NIPT test for next week. £159 as I'm only having the blood test and no scan. Has anyone else had a private test recently? I know logically it's a low chance but I'm such a worrier!

I bought some from Primark yesterday. The rest of their maternity stuff is really awful though!

@monsteramunch Great pic :)

Motheroflions8 · 13/04/2023 17:32

Hi all new here 😊 expecting baby number 8 October 15th unlike the rest this little 1 was completely unplanned and a huge surprise. Had 12 week scan 3rd April and all went well 😀 not going to find out the gender with this little 1 as we really don't have a preference although with the ammount of sickness I suspect another little girl.

Motheroflions8 · 13/04/2023 17:35

12 weeks 1 day here baby was very active and has incredibly long legs which is funny as I'm 5ft 3 😁

@Motheroflions8 what a lovely scan!

Has anyone else found that their sickness/nausea actually got worse at week 11/12?
i’m currently 12+1 and i’ve never felt more unwell. I was actually sick for the first time on Monday, I thought it was supposed to get better, not worse! Xxx

Motheroflions8 · 13/04/2023 18:13

I had about a week or so where I thought it was getting better around 10/11 weeks then it was back just as bad, currently 13 +4 and not gotten any better also the fatigue is back pretty extreme this week after easing off for a couple of weeks

Alexandra07 · 13/04/2023 18:17

I had my 12 week scan today. NT measurement was small and all looked good. Husband managed to see baby for first time! But the pictures I got were so bad! I attached one from today, the baby looks like an angry monkey! 😂I attached also one from the private scan for the nipt I had 1 week ago. How is it possible the quality is so different? I imagine that if there was anything to worry about the sonographer would have told me, right? Anyone else got such bad scan pictures?

Chanteuse · 13/04/2023 18:23

@Alexandra07 one of my scan pics is really scary - it looks like the baby is staring at you and it really freaks me and DH out! 🤣 Although both my mum and MIL said we were really horrible for saying it’s creepy 😬😂

Phoenixwings1989 · 13/04/2023 18:42

@Chanteuse haha i am incomplete agreement with you about being creeped out when baby stares at you. This happened to me twice - once at the NHS scan and at the private scan I had when I had a bleed and learnt about the hematoma.

We actually got a scan picture of bub in th act too!

Creepy!

LaVitesse2022 · 13/04/2023 19:10

@monsteramunch what a lovely scan pic, and interesting that they could tell it was a girl! Is this your first?

I'm dying to find out the sex but will try to wait until the 20 week scan. Can't really justify the cost of a private one to find out just a couple of weeks earlier!

@Alexandra07 I also didn't get the clearest of pics for my 12 week scan! And we even had to pay for it in cash, £2 per pic! 😂 Luckily I had heeded the advice in the letter and got some coins I had lying around at home but only had enough for 1 pic - bloody cashless habit 😒😅 But most important thing was sonographer could see everything she needed and was all fine :)

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 13/04/2023 19:38

@LaVitesse2022 wow £2 is good, we have to pay £5 per scan picture in my area! When my sister was pregnant she got one free but had to pay for extra, now you have to pay for any!

LaVitesse2022 · 13/04/2023 19:47

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway £5 per pic is insane!! They could at least offer one! But what annoyed me most was that it had to be paid in cash - I never carry cash around anymore!

NSx · 13/04/2023 19:47

anyone cry for nothing? i just sobbed my whole way home from work because I don’t feel well and OH doesn’t take me seriously 😂😂😂😂😂 I need help 😂

Chanteuse · 13/04/2023 19:54

I got 4 pictures free at my 12 week scan! I’m so shocked you have to pay… fair enough for copies but for the first one is a bit mean!

@NSx all the time! I’m literally an emotional wreck! 😢

NSx · 13/04/2023 19:57

@Chanteuse Glad it’s not just me 😅🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
