@FirstTimeMamaB I had my NIPT yesterday and it was perfectly fine.
I suppose it depends where you go but she was extremely thorough. She checked there is two parts to the heart and the blood vessels, bladder, eye socket, brain and spine. She checked the fluid at the back of the neck and the nose bone. It was really good actually. You just get so much more with a private scan compared to nhs. She gave me so much reassurance just based off what she can see, I won’t get my results back for a week but she said everything looks completely normal.
Could the nhs not book you back in next week or something? They shouldn’t just not do it because the baby was in the wrong position xxx

Oh wow, this sounds great - I am a really anxious person and so I would prefer the reassurance.
I think because we've already had a private early scan the difference in experience was a bit of a shock.
She was very busy and very just blunt, basic and matter of fact I didn't come away feeling very reassured about anything with the baby, apart from of course the main things that they were okay and formed properly and kicking away!
She didn't even give me the option. She just said that is the NHS pathway once they have tried twice. I did look it up online and it says that is the recommendation, I felt like she just couldn't be bothered to keep trying. I am a bit annoyed at myself and am questioning whether I should've pushed more but I was just so relieved the baby is okay and looking into NIPT it sounds like a much better option for us personally!

LR94 · 12/04/2023 09:53

@FirstTimeMamaB yeah the NIPT test is supposed to be far better than the nhs combined test, more accurate etc xx

Has anyone bought anything yet? Especially first time mums? Part of me says it’s too early to buy anything but the other part doesn’t want to leave everything to last min 😩

iloveeggs · 12/04/2023 10:03

@skywayavenue I'm Irish but gone private, my dating scan is on Friday and I'll be 13 weeks. I've had scans at 6/8 and 11 weeks too though.

@Chanteuse I haven't bought anything yet, I'm too afraid to jinx myself lol

FirstTimeMamaB · 12/04/2023 10:05

@Chanteuse I haven't bought anything yet! We said we'd buy our first baby thing after the 12 week scan to help it feel real and exciting but I don't even know where to start!!

VictoriaBlossom · 12/04/2023 10:12

@Chanteuse nope not bought anything, bought some maternity clothes from Vinted though 😂

katherine123x · 12/04/2023 10:22

Possible TMI - anyone got really watery discharge? I've put a liner in today it feels like I've wet myself!!

Chanteuse · 12/04/2023 10:25

I’m 14 weeks so feel like I could start buying some items but again, but overwhelming knowing where to start! I’m putting money away each month as well but equally I don’t wanna get to 6 months and have to buy all the big ticket items together if that makes sense 😂 I have bought a grand total of 3 babygros so far 😂

Smiffette · 12/04/2023 10:31

I kept a lot from DD so thankfully don't have too much to get. We've bought her new bedroom furniture so we can move her stuff into the nursery.

I wanted to do that earlier on, partly for financial reasons but also I'm so conscious of her not feeling like lots of things are being taken from her room for the new baby. So if I do it in stages and as presents ie her birthday in a couple months, that will help

VanillaOat · 12/04/2023 11:10

@Chanteuse I’m a first time mum, 14 and an half weeks and haven’t bought anything yet! My friends have loads of stuff to give me but I’ve told them to wait until I know the sex of the baby before they do. So I’m using my 16 week scan as the cut off before I start getting organised! Are you booked in for a gender scan?

cruciverbalista · 12/04/2023 11:50

@Chanteuse I actually started a registry last night, mostly to keep myself organized with what I want to buy. We're getting some hand me down big ticket items from the in laws (pram, cot, car seat) which is great but of course it's still incredibly overwhelming.

Chanteuse · 12/04/2023 11:53

@VanillaOat that’s such a good idea! Yes I’m booked for a gender scan on 27th so I may copy you 🤣 means I can decide on the colour for the baby’s room too (not doing pink or blue - we have safari themed wallpaper so it’ll just be the other walls).

@cruciverbalista yes we’re getting a few items from family like a Moses basket etc, but the big items like pram and stuff we need to buy so I don’t wanna be stuck buying them all in one wage 🙈

Glad you brought that up, me too! Sometimes watery, sometimes really thick... naturally I was straight on Google and seems to be normal but it's hard not to worry about literally everything isn't it? And every time I feel it I have to run and check it isn't blood!

Here is what NHS says about it anyway www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/related-conditions/common-symptoms/vaginal-discharge/

SnookyPook · 12/04/2023 12:13

@LWestYorks I've had a bit more today so rang the EPU. Midwife said she wasn't overly worried but when she realised my official scan is still over 2 weeks away she invited me in for one on Friday! So I'm hoping everything is ok. Very relieved I've only got 2 days to wait rather than 16. Bit nervous but hoping it's all fine.

PrimarilyParented · 12/04/2023 12:14

@Chanteuse i have stopped myself from buying anything yet too. I do have pretty much everything from my first, but I stupidly sold lots of the newborn clothes (just kept the nicest and sentimental ones) as I was on mat leave and the money helped me buy the next lot. I got too busy to continue being that organised after that though and am glad as I then reached the point of meeting my DP and wanting another baby so have kept pretty much everything since.

The only big ticket item to buy is a newborn cot and I really want the snuzpod 4 but have yet to convince my DP it’s worth over £100 as he’s tall and my last baby was big too, so not sure how long baby will even fit in it.

if anyone wants it I did write a list last time of everything needed. I put it on a spreadsheet with estimated costs. Then every time I bought something I put in the actual cost, I got lots second hand and given lots too, so I got absolutely everything for less than £900 in total and that included a £250 car seat which was worth every penny and which I have kept as it’s a 360 one that saved my back and lasted until my DS was nearly 4 (he got too tall but not too heavy for it).

katherine123x · 12/04/2023 12:15

@OrionNebula same!! At times I thought it was urine but it's not. Others it's really thick like rolled up wet tissue! 😂

Koalawhala · 12/04/2023 12:37

Happy wriggly scan for us today! 12 weeks exactly. Bloods taken for Harmony test but she was very thorough and checked neck, nose etc and classed me as low risk for trisomy’s. So relieved. She also gave us her guess on the sex

Oh my goodness, would it be ok to share your list with me at all?

We're first timers here and I've started a spreadsheet but finding it a bit overwhelming so something like that would be amazing!

Such a kind thing to offer Flowers

@Koalawhala 🤍🤍 lovely scan picture, so glad to hear things are all good. Seems like all our babies are loving lying legs up 😂😂😂😂 so funny.

are you going to find out the gender? Wonder if she predicts right! 🌸

Ah pregnancy is so glamorous and sexy isn't it 😂 I've GP appointment week after next as I am doing shared care between midwives & GP so I will mention it to her then but from what I have seen it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about.

iloveeggs · 12/04/2023 12:53

@Koalawhala Great scan pic 💕

My sore throat has turned into a full blown headcold, not fun without all the usual relievers 😓

LaVitesse2022 · 12/04/2023 12:55

Hi all, been getting up to speed with the thread, so great to see all the scan pics coming in 💛

I got my combined screening results today by post and classed as low risk for all, which is a relief. I was wondering if anyone got their 20 week scan date yet? Might be getting ahead of myself but I'll be on holiday abroad when I'm 20-21 weeks so would really like to have that done before!

@Chanteuse I haven't bought anything yet as I think it's just too early and don't want to be cluttering my small 1-bed flat with pram and cot for months before it's needed! And haven't really felt the urge to buy baby clothes yet. But have started to look at costs and will be doing a spreadsheet to get that organised, thanks for the tip @PrimarilyParented !

I found the NHS page on baby essentials really helpful and will be going from there plus friends' experiences of what's really needed and not. Really don't want to get loads of things I won't use and clutter our small home! Main thing I've been thinking about is the bath and whether we actually need one or if we can get away with bathing the newborn in the sink for the first weeks! 😅
