@katkatherine123x oh my goodness!! 😭😭 Congratulations!! What a cutie 😍

BeaKind · 06/04/2023 14:21

@AlongcameLainey @Hopefulx awww congrats. Lovely scans 🥰

@6strings1song It’s always the in-laws! 😂 I’m expecting a weird reaction from mine this weekend. I think MIL will wonder how we will cope as in her mind I think she believes the reason we have our ds in nursery 3 days a week is because I can’t cope with being a mum (not to earn a living!). She was a full time mum for 5 years when my husband was little. Whenever we ask her if DH was loud, energetic etc. when he was small she just says. ‘I don’t really know, I was just happy being a mum’. 🙄 So weird.

FIL will just be anxious I expect as he has bad anxiety. Yay! Can’t wait to share the happy news 🤣

Rant over lol.

AlongcameLainey · 06/04/2023 14:26

I found out this week my MIL or SIL has been telling people about the pregnancy despite us telling them not to!!

The joys!!

Saturnsmoon · 06/04/2023 15:21

Such lovely scans @AlongcameLainey & @Hopefulx congrats!

so my nipt has come back inconclusive for the second time. I don’t have any of the usual factors (high bmi, ivf etc) so they did raise a slight concern that sometimes the reason for low fetal fraction / inconclusive results is because they are seeing some abnormalities in the chromosomes but not enough to say definitively. I’ve now gone for the SAFE test which apparently has ‘inconclusive results’ less frequently. Obviously means another anxious wait though. Unfortunately because I’m abroad I haven’t had a combined test so other than two recent scans (one of which they did today) I don’t have much to go by. At today’s scan they had a really thorough look at baby and said they weren’t seeing anything concerning but I know that’s not a guarantee. Hopefully we’ll have more clarity next week, by which point I’ll be almost 15 weeks.

NSx · 06/04/2023 15:25

@Saturnsmoon oh I’m so sorry you’re having to wait further to get results I know how frustrating/anxious a time this is for you. Sending you lots of well wishes and I hope you get some clarity soon 🤍.

All these baby scans are precious 🥹😍 I have a private one booked for Saturday, but I will only be about 11+1 so not sure if what I’ll see exactly 😅

Ugh!!!! Why can't people respect keeping something so special private?!

AlongcameLainey · 06/04/2023 15:31

@FirstTimeMamaB i know right.

With my first daughter I didn’t tell them until 12 weeks because I had a feeling it would happen and here we are! 😒

OrionNebula · 06/04/2023 15:54

@Phoenixwings1989 my three year old knows. When my bump popped out around 10 weeks I asked her she thought was in mammy's tummy. First time she said "cheese I think" 😂 Second time she said "a baby". When we found out we're having a little girl we started telling her it was her sister in mammy's tummy. She seems vaguely curious so far but not too much emotion one way or another, I think when the baby starts to move and she can feel it that will make it seem more real to her.

Koalawhala · 06/04/2023 16:04

Lovely to see some more happy scans today!

@Saturnsmoon how frustrating for you. I hope the SAFE results come back quickly and you can move on without any more concerns.

@AlongcameLainey that is very annoying, not sure why people can’t respect your privacy and appreciate that there are reasons for keeping the news quiet until you’re further along!

Alexandra07 · 06/04/2023 16:14

@Saturnsmoon that's annoying. Please don't assume that's something wrong, it could be the lab. Hopefully the safe results come back quickly.

I enjoy reading all the parents in law drama. I am sure I will be in the same situation, even with my parents. Luckily they all leave abroad, everything will be over the phone. We are tempted to wait till the 20 week scan until we tell our parents to limit the time we get asked questions and get unwanted advice.

Last time I gave birth, my DD was in the hospital for a week and she had a cannula for her medication. I sent photos to my parents of their first grand child on the day she is born. My dad asked me pictures of the baby where the cannula wasn't visible so he could share them with others... I wanted to swear at him! I was so angry! Among other things that happened!

Phoenixwings1989 · 06/04/2023 16:41

@OrionNebula I don't have a bump at all right now so I think she'd just be confused haha.

I had my screening results back and I have a 1 in 40 chance of baby having Downs Syndrome. Screening midwife gave me the option of doing nothing, having a blood test (NIPT) or the invasive screening which I'm not comfortable with due to fearing miscarriage. I am booked in for Tuesday morning to have the NIPT test done as my husband and I think it's the best route for us.

Anyone here had a NIPT with the NHS?

6strings1song · 06/04/2023 16:51

It is always the in laws isn't it! 😅Glad I am not alone in my confusion!

They made a couple of other odd comments following the announcement, but won't get onto them on here as could be a little identifying. I will just keep a close eye on how things play out over the next few weeks, when the news has settled somewhat.

@Alexandra07 Omg...the request for a pic without a cannula! I would have hit the roof. I think sometimes people get so focused on what is important for themselves that they fail to take into account anyone else's emotions or feelings.

I know it is a bit of a generational stereotype but me and DH often think it because they are of the "boomer" generation (caveat...I know not all boomers are like this!), but it does make us laugh.

Alexandra07 · 06/04/2023 16:56

@Phoenixwings1989 the combined test is not as accurate as the nipt. I would have chosen to do the nipt before anything else. 1/40 still means that 39 babies will not have the syndrome. I hope you get your nipt results back soon. x

JoanneV · 06/04/2023 17:07

Loving all the scan pics. I cannot wait for mine, only 5 days to go.

Laughing here i have the opposite, I know the in laws will be thrilled as it'll be their first grandchild however I'm getting nervous about my parents reaction. I'm sure it will be fine but probably a bit of a non reaction like someone was saying. They're quite traditional, have other grandkids and I'm the only one unmarried having a baby (even though I've been with my partner for 8 years). Would just rather not tell anyone who's going to make a negative comment because while I'd like to think I can brush it off it still hurts.

lighthousechristmas · 06/04/2023 17:09

I just caved and booked in another private scan for 2 weeks time (i'll be 16 weeks). The wait between scans suck haha. Can't wait until I can feel baby so can finally stop wanting scans every minute of every day 😂I'm going to invite my mum and maybe my father in law/or my stepdad in to come for the scan, but haven't decided - defo my mum 😊

I'm 14+2 and the energy has very very slightly got better but i'm still going to bed at like 9pm. 😴still suffering with headaches and lack of appetite, but feel sick if I dont eat.... but it is getting a tiny bit better week by week!

iloveeggs · 06/04/2023 17:29

@Alexandra07 Omg I would have told him f all, people are actually ridiculous!!

Summer022 · 06/04/2023 17:34

Sickness is back. Went to nandos with my friend and the sight of the chicken was unbearable 🤢

I feel anxious about telling the in-laws. SIL is very judgemental and always says we need to ‘live our lives’ before we choose to have children as if it’s her choice to make! I have a feeling she might even kick off when she finds out sadly. I will simply walk away from her if she does that, she has done it before when we bought our first house and it’s unbelievably controlling. MIL will be excited once the shock wears off as she’s not expecting it for a while but she will still be very happy. I have told my parents and they are utterly over the moon

LR94 · 06/04/2023 19:18

Need some help, we were planning to tell friends and family next weekend (15th April) i will be 12+3. We’ve already made plans with everyone etc.
My 12 week scan is the day before on the 14th so we could have a baby scan and hopefully be told everything looks okay.
I had a feeling to check on my maternity badger notes system and they have cancelled my appointment!! Its now not until the 17th which is only a few days after but we have made plans to tell everyone on the 15th. They also cancelled my booking appointment so i really am losing total faith in my chosen hospital.

we have decided to still tell people on the 15th however we are now booking a private scan.
Does anyone know if we have a scan when we are 11+3 will it actually look like a 12 week baby? Haha i’m thinking there wouldn’t be much difference in 4 days?
we would book the scan for when i am 12 weeks but they like you to leave a week gap between any ultrasound scans (not sure why)

Another reason why we wanted to wait until our 12 week nhs scan is for the tests that they do, do they give you any indication on the scan day whether anything looks slightly off or do you have to wait for your actual results?

I know this sounds so pathetic but we have been so eager and excited to be able to finally tell people and I’m just sick of the nhs cancelling every appointment. They didn’t even let me know, I just had a feeling to go onto the app! Xxx

Summer022 · 06/04/2023 19:25

@LR94 So sorry you have had such difficulty with the appointments and scans, must be very frustrating :( I would say baby will definitely look like a proper baby at 11+3. I had a scan at 10+3 and baby had its head shape, nose and little legs kicking about. A private scan will be even better as you will likely get a range of different scan pics to show people and maybe a video!! xx

RooneyRach · 06/04/2023 19:27

@LR94 That sounds like a pain! I would be frustrated too, if it helps I was dated 11+5 at my 12 week scan and looked like this. The sonographer said everything looked good but this was with the nhs so I don’t know how much they tell you at private scans! Xx

iloveeggs · 06/04/2023 19:29

I have my inlaws wedding 2 months after my due date and i'm now kinda freaking out how I'll manage it, will I be able to leave baby/bring it with me. Will I be breastfeeding or not. It's my first too so also no idea what to expect 😖

NSx · 06/04/2023 19:31

@LR94 I’ve booked a private scan on Saturday where I will be 11 + 4ish for the reasons of telling people on Sunday - I’ll let you know how that goes and if my baby looks ‘like a baby’ 😂

from what I remember last time, they did mention to me at the 12 week scan that some things didn’t look right, but they weren’t 100% so I do believe there might be an indication where they could potentially tell you any anomalies - for me it was the shape of the head. This turned out to be an issue as my baby had Patau’s last year which was confirmed later by bloods and amnio.

Koalawhala · 06/04/2023 20:28

@iloveeggs i went to a wedding when my eldest daughter was 5 weeks old and it was fine. We sat at the back of the church so I could leave if I needed to, found quiet places in the reception to feed and brought the buggy if we needed it. The baby got lots of fuss, it was only when it got later and people were wanting to hold the baby after loads of drinks that we realised we needed to leave 😂. I’m sure you’ll be fine 🙂

SillyOldBear3 · 06/04/2023 20:55

Finally had my 12 week scan today! Baby is looking healthy and they dated me a few days later than I though, so due date is now 17th October! Had lovely clear scan photos too, baby was sleeping on its front, then woke up mid scan and turned onto its back 🥰

Mamabear345 · 06/04/2023 21:18

I have the most horrendous cough, does anyone know what’s safe to take while pregnant, strepsils etc. xx
