@FLA92 I wake up in the night starving sometimes so can't eat too early :(!

I've been using Gaviscon advance liquid , I find the tablets stick to my teeth

I’m wondering what the baby wears home from the hospital as I feel a bit clueless temperature-wise about what’s suitable? Are hospitals cold or warm and if it’s hot weather outside then should I be putting her in a short sleeved vest straight away with a blanket (I really have no idea what I’m meant to be doing 😂).

Also I’m only going to buy one or two packs of actual newborn sized vests etc, I have the 1 month size from Next in basically everything so hoping that will be fine?

Hot. Maternity wards in hospitals are hot. Take a hand held fan. And prepare yourself for the horror that is the post-natal ward. I thought people were exaggerating. They weren't.

My last baby was a winter baby so not entirely sure on what to take them home in. Guess it will depend on the temp that day

Belami · 04/04/2023 11:55

Sorry was meant to also tag @justbelieve on the below!

Me too! I have bought about 7 vests and 7 sleepsuits in first size/up to 1 month, because when I looked at the size guide some of the newborn stuff is only up to 7lb and I'm preparing myself for a big baby Shock so only bought 4 vests in newborn size, just in case.

Look if all else fails and you need more or different sizes there's always Amazon, or Asda!!

Just had my bump measured for the first time and was measuring 26cm at 28 weeks which really surprised me as I think I look really big. They just told me to come back in 2 weeks to get measured again. That's why its so nice to have this forum to chat on or I'd be worrying about it but since other people seem to have wonky measurements too I don't really feel too worried about it.

I have no idea what baby will wear home either. Will probably just pack a mix of vests, sleepsuits and short sleeved rompers with a blanket for in the car since our hospital is a 30 min drive away then it will depend on the weather. Must be easier for winter babies as you know it will be cold but June it could be anything from 18-40 degrees!

Babybaby66 · 04/04/2023 12:40

Glad it’s not just me who has no concept of what to dress a baby in coming home from hospital! Seems like I’ll just take a selection and hope for the best (and wait for my mum/sister to tell me regardless she is dressed in the wrong outfit!)

FLA92 · 04/04/2023 13:12

Haha, ok glad I’m not alone then! I’ll also probably end up packing a mix of stuff.

One last Q from me is which bottles is everyone getting if you’re planning on using bottles? I have heard the MAM ones are the best?

PurBal · 04/04/2023 13:43

@FLA92 Ds was born in a heatwave. We did vest and sleep suit. No hat, no blanket but fully covered. Hospitals are like saunas even when there’s no heatwave: so hot.

firsttimelondonmummy · 04/04/2023 15:26

@Funfamilytimes no! It’s making me miss alcohol even more 😭😂 ☀️

I’m only taking 6 months off so I’m actually struggling to get rid of my holiday leave before I go 🤣

@FLA92 I'm going to try combi feeding. I've bought the Tommee Tippee anti-colic and steriliser pack.

Funfamilytimes · 04/04/2023 16:24

@firsttimelondonmummy oh don’t! I could kill for a shandy right now!

Baby3herewego · 04/04/2023 18:16

Just catching up with everyone now so will try to answer some questions I’ve seen.

For little man’s cot we went for the Wedmore from Mama’s and Papa’s. We actually just got the whole set ( dresser, wardrobe and cotbed )

Fundal measurements can be off as many are saying. I had my 28 week measurement yesterday and measured 32 weeks so way off for me but my bump is huge ( much bigger than this stage with my others babies ) My midwife said she’ll measure again in 3 weeks and see if I need to go for a growth scan then.

firsttimelondonmummy · 04/04/2023 18:40

Cot wise we got the Snoo but I think I remember whoever asking asked for cheap cots and that definitely wasn’t 🤦🏻‍♀️

BobbySD345 · 04/04/2023 21:22

We have the next2me for our room and baby will have our Son's cot which was from wayfair. We opted for a mid range breathable anti allergy matress back when that was purchased.

I'm sure I posted in here yesterday and it clearly never sent but can't for the life of me remember what i said !

Clothing wise, maternity units are saunas but newborns can't properly regulate their body temperature and I remember them checking DS a few times before saying we could remove his hat. I'd take a short sleeved vest and sleepsuit with hat and a cellular blanket for going home and then ask the midwife for advice.

Hope this helps.

Funfamilytimes · 04/04/2023 21:24

@Baby3herewego my bump is measuring the same. Went for a growth scan and they are estimated to be bang on average. I also find growth scans aren’t accurate. My first baby was measuring tiny and she was 8lbs when born.

Zaalfruit · 04/04/2023 21:32

Loving all the tips! Alsowhere is the summer feels like we have been in this drab horrible weather forever !!

Mam bottles are on sale at the moment on Amazon. I ordered 4 - I exclusively breastfed last time so looking forward to a different journey this time.

How big is everyone’s bags that they are taking to the hospital?

Also can I please get some recommendations for baby bags - I am just not feeing the ones on Amazon . Last time I just used a boring Nike bag :/

Also what’s everyone’s thoughts on the nuby rapid cool? I want to buy everything Because this time I don’t need to splash out on the big ticket items ( cot , next to me , buggy and car seat - I know your not meant to use a car seat that’s been used but my daughter was born during lock down and she only used it like 5 times and then we changed over to an isofix style at 6 months )

Zaalfruit · 04/04/2023 21:33

omg I just read what I wrote clearly my mind is all over the place !

DrinkingAllTheGin · 04/04/2023 21:37

We have a next-to-me I picked up second hand for our room, and an IKEA cot for the nursery for later. Both have new mattresses.
I hame packed a small weekend bag for bubs but not done mine yet. I started putting things in a hand luggage sized suitcase but it's too small already. I think DH would prefer a holdall anyway, he's so tall that he struggles with a small pull along case.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 04/04/2023 22:33

I took a medium sized suitcase with me. I could fit in 3 days worth of pjs, snacks and my good pillow. Definitely recommend more than one pack of maternity pads as I went through a pack in a few days. Long cable chargers too as the plugs are far behind the bed and I couldn't reach. Extra blanket or bed socks as my room was freezing. I woke up both nights I was in so cold. They said the side rooms usually are cold at my hospital and I didn't want to disturb midwives during night by asking for extra blanket!

Ohh 2 pages to catch up on in just a few days - I love a chatty thread. I'll have to remember to keep up better.

My glucose test went ok Monday but still not heard any results yet so I may call tomorrow to see if anyone can let me know either way.

With regards to baby stuff we've got a 2nd snuzpod 4 sorted already and will get a cot/toddler bed from IKEA for the nursery. I've not got alot of anything else but feel I probably need to get my arse in gear soon. I am relieved that I'm not alone in not knowing what to bring baby home in and what to dress him in for warmer weather 🙈 we're in this together haha

I had a meeting with my boss today about mat leave funnily enough and I'm taking 3 weeks annual leave before my due date and starting my mat leave on my due date. But I'm actually only in work for another 8 weeks and even then only 1 if those weeks is full time, I've got so much leave to use up and all the bank holidays, I'm using it to work short weeks. It all feels very real all of a sudden 😬🙈 last day in work is 2nd June (all being well an baby stays cooking until then lol)

4am club checking in. Struggling to sleep due to anxiety and my SIL being, at best, thoughtless (although I have other words I’d like to use). Can you give me perspective ladies? Supposed to be meeting them for a family gathering this weekend, their children have chickenpox. I don’t want to be exposed to chickenpox, I know the risk is small, but my anxiety and mental health (antenatal depression) is so bad I’m not working and I declined medication for it last week because of the small risk to baby. Our 20mo hasn’t had it either and I’m not well enough to care for him as it is, I know he’ll get chickenpox at some point in his life but knowingly exposing him when I’m struggling with the day to day seems silly. DH has taken on most of the responsibility recently. I said I’d check with the midwife today but SIL unsurprisingly has said I am being ridiculous and has linked me to studies that support her way of thinking despite the NHS website saying people with chickenpox should avoid pregnant women. I’m upset and angry because I’ve been planning this event for a year (I took on planning for it and they’ve done nothing but complain). This is my SIL MO, she’s decided it’s fine so she expects everyone to fall in. And tbh 99% of the time we do because she’s so much hard work. I know whoever doesn’t go will “get the blame” from my parents for “ruining” the event, they don’t want to stay at home and I don’t understand why the people who are sick get to go and I can’t. Rant over. 😢

PurBal · 05/04/2023 04:31

I declined medication because I worried it would make my anxiety worse and I’m not suicidal; not because I think taking medication is the wrong decision for everyone! Sorry, didn’t mean to come across as insensitive.

Zaalfruit · 05/04/2023 05:08

@PurBal I agree with you to be honest . You are pregnant and you have a little one. Yes the risks might be minimal - however your mental health comes first . I think your sil is being highly unfair towards you - Anytime I hear anyone I know that’s got any illness even if it’s a cold - I run a mile - so if anyone has been exposed to shingles , chicken pox , covid - various catchable illness I would stay far away . Ofcourse we are never risk free from catching something but if we can avoid it - we should.

Also your mental health comes first - if something makes you feel uncomfortable and you have stated it - people should respect it. END OFF !!

(((Sorry if I sound really annoyed but I get so annoyed when people think pregnant women are being overly sensitive over things that matter to them and we are expected to fall into line )))
