Also has anyone done a proper birth plan. With my last 2 I always got told- have a birth plan. Never knew it was an actual physical thing, I literally had no plan- just that I wanted it natural as possible. But my friend told me she had her plan/requests written on her notes on the system . The only request I may have is possibly an epidural, I can't deal with the idea of that pain for so long- both my labours were quite long and active labour was just too intense. I'm seeing the consultant in 2 weeks and will get that put on my birth plan I suppose

PurBal · 06/04/2023 09:18

I think I saw my HV 4w before my due date with DS1, home visit. @BobbySD345

@tigerlily0 didn’t do a proper birth plan for DS no. Had an epidural, unexpectedly due to long labour, which I loved but had to stay in afterwards which I didn’t love. I’m torn between epidural like last time because of the familiarity and water birth. I generally hate being in water (well, I hate being wet once I get out) but I’ve been doing aquanatal this time around and enjoy the weightlessness. Literally no idea what’s for the best.

firsttimelondonmummy · 06/04/2023 09:23

@Zaalfruit I went for it as it was on sale on the Silvercross website! Hopefully it’s is good as it looks 🤞🏻

@BobbySD345 looks like we might end up getting both 🤦🏻‍♀️

@tigerlily0 the Doona is great! Ours arrived the other day and we love it 😊
Can’t help on the liquid as we are already non bio (due to my sensitive skin).
We use Fairy (pods and conditioner) which we love.

OP posts:
BobbySD345 · 06/04/2023 10:32

@tigerlily0 We still use non bio for our 3 year old. Fairy non bio is our go to because it smells amazing and it's "his smell". We use the pods and fabric softener. I for one will definitely be using non bio for this baby too x

BobbySD345 · 06/04/2023 10:35

I saw someone yesterday with a doona with a gold frame and it looked so nice ! They do look very handy just no chance I can convince my DH to add that to our massive list !

Funfamilytimes · 06/04/2023 12:22

Why is there the debate over non bio to bio? I didn’t realise there was much of a difference. I use non bio powder for their nappies but I think just normal pods for their clothes?

firsttimelondonmummy · 06/04/2023 13:28

@BobbySD345 keep an eye on Boots,
I got mine for 20% off so was less than £300

firsttimelondonmummy · 06/04/2023 13:30

Thought I’d post these incase they help any other first time mums!
I’m such an organisation freak and I was getting so overwhelmed with the hospital bag and where to start.
These come in a pack of 15 (all pre labelled) and have really taken the stress out of packing 😭🙏🏻
I got mine from Etsy https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1273339047/hospital-bag-organisers-x15-maternity?ref=yr_purchases
but there’s plenty on Amazon etc I just like supporting the small shops where I can 😊

We have always used non bio as I prefer the smells. As for all the buys we have got 90% of our stuff off market place on Facebook as with our first we bought everything new and had the latest gadget etc, but we didn't end up using hardly any of it and was a complete waste of money, so this time round we have gone second hand and all the money we have saved we have put into babies newly set up bank account, it's suprisinly how much is in there already and how much you do realise you waste money even if you have the money to spend, garenteed certain things won't get used.

Bit peed off as I was supposed to have my midwife app yesterday, sat there for over two hours only to be told the midwife wasn't even in! So they have re booked it for next week! So annoying as it was a complete waste of my time 😢

Junebaby30 · 06/04/2023 14:10

Hi All

I have been trying not to buy to much same as you @Hlc86 but I am feeling overwhelmed trying to make the right decisions.

I cannot decide what to buy for downstairs for the baby to sleep in, do I need a Moses basket or should I just use a snooze pod I was looking at these. https://www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/products/purflo-sleep-tight-baby-bed-soft-white

I also have no idea what changing bag to buy as I like the Storksak bags but they are quite expensive, do I really need a specific changing bag or should I just buy a normal backpack not sure.

@Bablond same due date!

If you’re looking for something small we went with the Cybex Beezy: lie flat from birth, can be used with a car seat and 1 hand fold. There’s not carrycot but we had the Cybex Cloud Z car seat which lies flat. We felt this was more substantial than the YoYo and didn’t need the facility to put it in a plane.

Also heard good things about the Baby Jogger City Tour 2, which does have a carrycot option.

Babybaby66 · 06/04/2023 14:52

@firsttimelondonmummy ive had my eye on some little bags like that too - meant to say thanks for the kit and kin code for nappies above as well! I had no idea what to get and these seemed like the most eco friendly of disposables.

@Junebaby30 ive got my eye on that little purflo nest too rather than the dock a tot/sleepyhead as the purflo one is approved for safe sleep! Interested If anyone has any thoughts on it at all. Was thinking about this instead of a Moses basket…

@Bablond I’ve got the bugaboo fox but I don’t live in a town (although still in london) so wanted one that would cover my countryside walks as well as in and out of shops etc. put it all together the other day and now it’s folded up in the cupboard which gives me a surprise every time I open it!!

I’m still really struggling with sickness at the moment, even at 30, nearly 31 weeks and it’s really getting to me now. Just totally wiped out and exhausted!!

Hlc86 · 06/04/2023 15:06

@Junebaby30 I've got a moses basket for downstairs and a next to you crib for upstairs, with my first I just had a moses basket and found it abit of a pain to carry upstairs when she had fallen asleep in there and It was time to go up to bed. As for changing bag my silver cross pram came with one but I doubt I will use it, I find a regular bag works just as well and if anything have more space in than changing bags but I know everyone is differant and alot of people like all the pockets and things.

For the little bags to go into the hospital bag, i have used sandwich bags and just written on them with a sharpie pen so other half will know what I mean when I say "grab the coming home outfit" 😂 I know I sound like a tight wad with money but I was adamant this time I would save money where I can 😅

firsttimelondonmummy · 06/04/2023 15:27

@Babybaby66 those ones are great and super roomy! Good price too.
Also my pleasure re Kit & Kin.
Every little helps the environment 🥰

@Junebaby30 we have a Snoo for upstairs and a Moses basket for down, this one was highly recommended https://www.thelittlegreensheep.co.uk/natural-knitted-moses-basket-mattress-stand-linen/
I can’t help with the bag as I fell in love with a Moschino one and spent far too much 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

@Bablond we are often in London as I work in central and my partners family live there and so we are planning on frequent trips with little one.
We bought a Silvercross Dune as the main pram (small city pram) and then a Doona and an Artipoppe sling for quick London trips.

@Babybaby66 sorry to hear you’re not feeling well, totally understand the exhaustion. Don’t sleep all night then need multiple naps in the day!

Babybaby66 · 06/04/2023 15:46

@firsttimelondonmummy i told my boyfriend that I wanted a mulberry bag for the baby bag and he wasn’t having any of it!

I’m contemplating starting the hospital bag packing soon. I like to be organised but I’m just exhausted at the end of every day.

thanjs @PurBal My midwife strongly suggested I should be signed off work but I’m struggling to accept I might need some time off. Just feeling a bit guilty about work as I’m already on a. Tight timeframe to hand over all my projects…

firsttimelondonmummy · 06/04/2023 15:53

@Babybaby66 I wanted the Gucci one to match his blanket but I think my partner would have fully disowned me if I would have bought it 🤣 he already thinks I’m stupid for buying the Artipoppe Ying Yang sling 😂 good job it’s my money haha.

Those bags really helped me pack bit by bit and stopped the process feeling as overwhelming as it did 🙏🏻

@Funfamilytimes I don't know if there is a debate as such but our DS was only able to tolerate non bio so that is what we have always used. Sometimes we would soak soiled clothes in bio but then always do the wash with non bio.

BobbySD345 · 06/04/2023 16:37

@firsttimelondonmummy I have been reviewing the hospital bag situation this afternoon as I had some child free time and I am definitely doing the see through bags of some description. My sister got me a set of 3 see through toiletry bags for my bday last week which I am 100% using so I'm not fishing about for a hair bobble for 10 mins and can see everything in the bag. I was watching tiktoks for uk hospital bag packing and have added a few new things to my list that i didnt have with DS. Also had a Peri bottle and some vit c face mist delivered today from amazon to pack.

Pram wise we have an iCandy from DS and will use that. Just had it cleaned professionally and got some new bits like seat pads to tart it up. We aren't very outdoorsy so it wasn't ever dirty or unkempt to be fair.

Changing bag I mentioned further down but we have the black leather pacapod backpack. It's brill for all the different sections and 2 separate pods for feeding and changing. We will use that as babies hospital bag aswell so DH can put it on his back.

I might make a start on washing the clothes this weekend if the weather is nice and I can line dry some of it.

Kelvie103 · 06/04/2023 18:19

@firsttimelondonmummy Thanks for the link for the labels, I've been looking for something like that but havn't been able to find anything where I'd use all the bags. These look like just the thing! I've been looking at the same moses basket too but thought it was quite expensive for something he'd only use for a few months but now I see its on special offer so happy days!

We're doing the mamas and papas buying for baby thing on saturday, hoping to get some guidance on what to buy as I'm feeling quite overwhelmed by whats needed and all the different brands too. Hoping to get the pram and car seat at the bare minimum. Been looking at the Occaro or icandy core as we want something that's all terrain as we live in a small village. Car seats I have no idea but definitely want an isofix one as I'd be worried I'd strapped it in wrong with just a seatbelt one.

I'm just not sure about bedroom cots are we don't have room next to our bed for one so it will have to go at the end of the bed. We have fitted furniture so can't move things around either.

firsttimelondonmummy · 06/04/2023 18:50

@Kelvie103 my pleasure! I was having the same predicament.
Theres 15 in total and they are all super useful.
I bought it due to the special offer too.
Not too bad at that price.

Side note second time mums where did everyone put stuff storage wise after your little ones got to big?
We aren’t sure if we will try to have a second but I’d like to keep hold of stuff until I make that decision however it is a lot to store even if I just think of the Snoo, Moses, newborn pram attachments, car seat…

Also has anyone been told to completely cut out sugar that doesn’t have GD?
I’ve got no markets for gestational diabetes however I had to call the doctor today as I have an ingrown hair issue down below (sorry tmi but need to say for context).
Doctor asked if I was eating sugar (well yeah duh I’m pregnant and craving) however I’m under the normal weight gain threshold, my bump is on the smaller side of normal and baby is measuring average so never worried about it.
She said I probably caused my own ingrown hair being infected due to sugar intake (WTF) and told me not to eat sugar for two weeks.
I probably have a regular choccy bar a day max and then food wise I am eating some granola supposedly that’s too much sugar and I can only have chocolate a desert or granola twice a week?
The whole thing has really upset me as my midwife never said anything like this and she made me feel like such a bad mum to be 😔

OP posts:
Babybaby66 · 06/04/2023 19:28

@BobbySD345 ooh I’ve been looking at the pacapod so thanks for the positive review! Going straight on my list of things to buy!

@firsttimelondonmummy I’ve never heard anyone say sugar could be the cause of ingrown hairs….I’d hate to be told to cut it out, I’m pretty much existing on babybels and Easter eggs right now…can’t imagine granola and 1 choc bar a day is that excessive ☹️ (also pretty envious of the artipoppe - I’ve got a friend who has given me the baby bjorn carrier in almost brand new condition so can’t really justify buying one…..)

I just panic booked a 4D scan for the weekend, i wasn’t planning on one at all as ones I have seen before look a bit creepy but a few friends had some really nice pictures recently and as most of them are pre 32 weeks (I’m 31 this weekend) I thought it was now or never! Fingers crossed I don’t regret…

PurBal · 06/04/2023 19:43

@firsttimelondonmummy the only people I know told to cut out sugar have had a GD risk, did you see the GP face to face? I wonder if they have your details down wrong, I kept getting “stop smoking” messages from mine despite being a non smoker (I’ve never been a smoker either).
