@SnookyPook @firstlittlefrazzleontheway @lighthousechristmas great, that's really useful to know, thank you. I had my bloods taken a couple of weeks ago at the booking appt so I'm assuming they'll just use those for the screening? They better as midwife took like a pint of blood!😅

@Hopefulx 😍another lovely scan pic! Must've been great to see the little one bouncing around! Did you get to hear the heartbeat?

Alexandra07 · 30/03/2023 17:20

@LaVitesse2022 the bloods are taken at the 12 week scan, two vials. Results come back in 3 days to the midwife if the risk is high then automatically the second vial is sent for a nipt. You find out about the first results in a week, but they sent the second vial before you even find the results, if the risk is high. If everything ok with first test, you find out within two weeks. No idea how long the nipt test takes. That's what my midwife told me in the booking appointment.

Hopefulx · 30/03/2023 17:30

@SnookyPook I know 😂 at first DH and I looked at each other like is this normal but the sonographer said it’s completely normal and healthy.

@LaVitesse2022 yes heard the heartbeat 🥰 although we had to beg her to listen to it. She said that usually they don’t allow people to hear the heartbeat unless they are 12 weeks - but we told her we had heard it at the 7 weeks scan so she let us. Heartbeat was 167 which is up from 147 at the 7 weeks scan.

She did mention that my placenta hadn’t taken over yet as she could still see my yolk sac, I’ve read that it usually takes over by 12 weeks, which I’ll be in 4 days.

Ladies that have had 12 week scans, do they confirm if the placenta has taken over? Has anyone had the 12 week scan and they have said the placenta hasn’t taken over yet? Xx

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 30/03/2023 17:33

@Hopefulx at my 12 week scan today nothing was said but the yolk sac wasn't there during the scan, whereas I could see it on the private scan I had last week which means it has gone within the last week

LaVitesse2022 · 30/03/2023 17:42

@Alexandra07 thank you, that's really useful to know!

@Hopefulx that's lovely 😊Interesting about the heartbeat and the placenta though

Anxiety has gotten the better of me and I have booked a private scan on Saturday at 11am. I’m absolutely petrified and so wanted to hold out until 12 weeks but I just need to know what’s going on. I haven’t had any ‘bad’ signs so far which is good but I can’t get it out of my head that there won’t be anything in there. Need to try and remain calm and just be brave. Crikey this is nerve wracking stuff x

peonygirl · 30/03/2023 19:08

@Summer022 if this will bring the peace of mind to you, you did the right thing. Just keep in mind there is much higher probability everything is all right than something is wrong :) Once you see the little bubba is well, you will be in much better mental space and can focus on keeping yourself well and rested. I find it hard to wait for my scan and keep on checking the image I got at my early 6 weeks scan to reassure myself the little bean is growing as it should. Things are hard on us but it will all be worth it at the end.

LWestYorks · 30/03/2023 19:38

Hey ladies! Been super quiet on here recently I’ve got such a bad cough and cold and I’m scared coughing loads is effecting the baby 🙈😩 damn anxiety! Does anyone else know if I can take anything else apart from paracetamol?

My 12 week scan is also next Thursday I’m counting down the seconds!!! I’ll be 13 weeks then :-)

LR94 · 30/03/2023 20:54

@LWestYorks I'm pretty sure you can only take paracetamol but you could also nip to the pharmacy and ask if they have anything you could take?

Does anyone know how many scan pictures you get at your 12 week scan and is there an option to purchase more?
I'm just figuring out how to tell friends and family, we want to give them a card with a pic of the scan in but need like 8 scan photos haha.
If not I could always take the scan to a photo shop and see if they could copy it but I'm not sure if that's even a thing xx

CL05071998 · 30/03/2023 21:16

Hi ladies, I'm 11 weeks tomo, have been having nausea and tiredness up until the last day or two. Woke up this morning with a light bleed that seems to be getting a little heavier throughout the day. We had a scan at 8 weeks and everything was good, although measured 6 days behind my dates. Can't get a scan until Tuesday morning, has anyone had any similar experience and things turn out OK? So hard not to think the worst, had a mis immediately before this pregnancy at 6 weeks, with no cycle in between

EMcG3 · 30/03/2023 21:40

Now that people are starting to get their 12 weeks scans it feels worth saying - if you get a call from the midwife after they have checked your bloods, telling you that you are at elevated risk, it is worth asking if they can give you the actual hormone measurements (HCG &
Papp-A) and the nuchal measurement. Some trusts always give them, some you have to ask. It is way easier to assess your risk & find other people who have been in the same position if you have them than if you don't. Hopefully no one gets a call - it is always a shitty experience even if most people come out ok in the end.

Alexandra07 · 30/03/2023 21:45

@CL05071998 a scan on Tuesday?! That's almost in a week! Was that through epu? I am sorry you go though this. A friend of mine had heavy bleeding during the first trimester and everything went fine, but I don't know how many weeks she was. Sending you a hug!

@EMcG3 thanks for the tip!

My due date is towards the end of October and I get very impatient seeing all the lovely scans! Two weeks till mine.

LaVitesse2022 · 30/03/2023 21:47

@LR94 my 12 week scan letter said to bring change if I wanted to take scan pics home so I don't think we're even entitled to one! 😅 Probably easiest to purchase one and just take copies at a printing shop.

@EMcG3 thanks for the tip, you're right, different people will be comfortable with different probabilities so it's best to get the numbers and decide for ourselves. Hopefully no one here will need it 🙏🏻

CL05071998 · 30/03/2023 21:54

@Alexandra07 yes, I'm in rural Ireland so not as many options and I'm at a wedding all day tomorrow. Have emailed to try get a private scan Saturday so hoping I can get in but it will be unlikely. That's good about your friend and reassuring so thank you x

LR94 · 30/03/2023 21:57

@CL05071998 Have you spoke to the early pregnancy assessment unit? They usually give you a scan straight away, there is no way you should wait until Tuesday. I would call them back tomorrow try and get one sooner. When I called them they got me in the same day.
At this stage it is probably nothing to worry about and apparently bleeding is really common but its always better to get checked ❤️ keep us updated xxx

Alexandra07 · 30/03/2023 21:57

@LR94 last time I did my scan I had to pay £5 to get 3-4 pictures. I didn't ask if I could pay for more but I wasn't going to give them to anyone, I didn't need more, I wanted to keep all of them for me!

@CL05071998 fingers crossed everything will be fine.

LR94 · 30/03/2023 21:58

@LaVitesse2022 I thought they would at least give you one haha yeah i’ll probably just buy one and scan it xxx

RooneyRach · 30/03/2023 21:58

@LR94 I’m guessing like a lot of things it probably varies in different locations but I was just given 4 photos at the end of my scan, wasn’t even mentioned about paying for them! X

CL05071998 · 30/03/2023 22:03

@LR94 yes it was my EPU who I called this morn and they couldn't get me in any earlier, just told me if it gets heavy to go to A&E, so just hoping it doesn't get worse. Bridesmaid for a wedding tomo so could not be worse timing. Thanks for your message xx

iloveeggs · 30/03/2023 22:21

@CL05071998 thinking of you. I’m in Ireland too and I find the EPUs are booked up for days, it doesn’t help with the panic 🥺 praying everything will be okay for you🤞

ali2021 · 30/03/2023 22:28

@CL05071998 , I don't know where you're based, but I really would just turn up at your maternity hospital A&E on Sat morning. You could always tell a white lie and say you've had more bleeding. Like others have said, the likelihood is that everything is absolutely fine, but the prolonged agony of a wait until Tuesday would cripple me mentally personally! Keeping everything crossed for you xx

CL05071998 · 30/03/2023 22:36

@ali2021 @iloveeggs I know today has been the longest day, just trying to reassure myself that it is common and everything could be fine. I'm away until Saturday but think Sunday morning I will just go to the A&E, but knowing what things are like here i could be left waiting there until Tuesday morning anyways 🙈 these weeks are so stressful, sending positive vibes everyones way. Xx

ali2021 · 30/03/2023 22:47

@CL05071998 I'm also Ireland, but Dublin so appreciate that maternity hospitals are run differently in different counties. If you visit the maternity hospital A&E (not regular A&E), you'll be seen fairly quickly. I went in last Sat and was the only person there, in and out within the hour! Best of luck!

ttcttc · 31/03/2023 06:18

@CL05071998 bless you. I had a bleed last year and like you pretty rural (think one hospital and the next being an hour away in the city!). I couldn't get anyone to see me and I went to a and e with a water infection and they couldn't get hold of the one gynae doctor on call (they think he was maybe in surgery). I rang my doctors, epu, maternity ward, 111 and all not just once. Don't feel like you're not doing enough, the facilities at smaller hospitals Aren't like they are in the cities.. smaller, less staff etc. I hope you get sorted but totally sympathise as it's not easy for us at smaller trusts/hospitals and unless you live out in the arse end of nowhere people don't get it 😂
I hope you manage to get something even if it's a private scan, try to enjoy your wedding and remember lots of women bleed in pregnancy. Take care xx

mariamari · 31/03/2023 06:27

I had my scan yesterday & was told I need to return next week as ‘it’s still early’ to complete the examination - I am 11+3.

Theres what looks like omphalocele however the obstetrician seemed to believe the organs would likely be back in the fetus next week and this can be normal progress for 11 weeks…

Does anyone know / have experience with this? It’s difficult not to fear the worse.

while it was so touching to see a little heartbeat, this potential complication has been worrying.
