@SnookyPook yes it's my MIL aswell. I know she's excited but this isn't the first time. When my son was born and I was still in hospital she posted a photo of my son on social announcing the birth. I was so upset. None of our friends or other family knew. My mum even messaged me annoyed that my mil had been "allowed" to share but she hadn't 🙄. I feel like any announcement is going to have to come with "DO NOT SHARE" warning.

VictoriaBlossom · 28/03/2023 11:14

@MeganC104 yep I feel you.
I've had to lie to my OH's parents, water down vodka, drink non alcoholic red put in a normal red bottle.... just so they get put off the scent. OH is one of 6 so i recon his dad can smell when someone's pregnant or something. Because he mentioned it 3 times on Mother's Day. And OH's mum just keeps raising the odd eyebrow at me

VictoriaBlossom · 28/03/2023 11:16

@MeganC104 just saw your more recent post. My MIL rang my OH and told him when SIL had literally POAS and rang MIL.
She also told the whole of her friendship group we are buying the house up the road from them. And there isn't even ink on the paper, i get that they are super proud and as they're retired, nothing better to talk about but get your nose out of our business!!!!! End

ttcttc · 28/03/2023 12:04

Finally had my booking app. All seems ok and low risk for everything. She said I'm quite boring with my medical history but it's what they like to see 😂
Will receive scan date in the post

DancingNancies · 28/03/2023 12:07

@cruciverbalista so glad it's good news, what a relief for you!

@SnookyPook @MeganC104 we had to tell family at 4w with DC1 as it was Xmas, and I hated it. Had private scans last pregnancy and this one as we need childcare for the NHS one - DH is happy he's seen baby so I'll go alone now.

Main mistake I made last time was giving the real due date - DS1 was 2 weeks early so no problem, but DS2 was 5 days late so I had almost 3 weeks of well-meaning messages - but when you're fit to burst and exhausted they're infuriating. Will give myself an extra week or two this time.

We also have a social media photo ban on both kids after a family member announced DS1's birth online before we'd told our friends 🙄

Thanks for all the support ladies, it means so much. Just got out of my scan and baby is alive and moving around in there. Radiologist said likely an implantation bleed. Waiting on the feedback from nurses shortly, but definitely feeling more positive. Xx

Great news Smile

SnookyPook · 28/03/2023 12:50

@cruciverbalista oh missed your update as I cross-posted! So glad it went well! What a relief 🥰

@ttcttc ah that's great. One time when you're very happy to be boring haha. Got mine tomorrow - feel like it will make it a bit more real discussing it with someone official!

Can't believe we should even have to consider putting 'do not share' disclaimers on birth announcements. People are so pig-headed at times aren't they?! I would never presume it was my news to share someone else's baby being born especially before they e put anything up themselves. 🤷🏼‍♀️

LaVitesse2022 · 28/03/2023 12:52

Great news @cruciverbalista , must've been such a relief!

I told my boss very early on as we were in a very particular situation and needing to plan cover for others so I wanted us to be able to do our planning with all info on the table. I decided to tell the rest of the team a few weeks later and honestly I'm feeling much more at ease now that everyone knows and we can discuss things openly and I don't need to hide that I sometimes have to take a nap in the afternoon or I'm more tired than usual. If something bad were to happen at this stage people would have to be told anyway as I'd have to take time off so why hide - that's my rationale. Same with my family and closest friends. We are all very close so if the worst was to happen I would tell them anyway - why not share the joy too. They've been a great source of experience and practical wisdom so I'm glad I'm not facing the first trimester (first pregnancy!) alone.

EMcG3 · 28/03/2023 13:13

Our small, senior management team knows but the rest of the company does not. My boss (the CEO) and I do all the non-trading decision-making at the company and she is pregnant, due 3 weeks before me. I told the executive team so we can make a plan. I had a loss at 18 weeks last year and people were very compassionate about it. My main focus is making sure the company can operate and the two of us can each get some time off.

I think the 'right' time to tell depends on the circumstances of your job and your feelings about it. For me, both push toward telling a few people early.

SnookyPook · 28/03/2023 13:17

I also have a lovely boss and a big project that could be impacted by me going off later in the year so I wanted to give her the courtesy of knowing now so we can plan ahead appropriately. Really glad I did. She's been great. I'll tell the rest of the team after the 12wk scan.

NSx · 28/03/2023 13:37

Finaaaaally had my booking appt 🎉 and NIPT sent away today. Should find out the results next week, wish me luck 🥹😵‍💫

@cruciverbalista so glad to hear your good news 🤍🤍🤍

LR94 · 28/03/2023 14:11

I’ve got my 12 week scan booked in when im 12+2. Since they cancelled my booking appointment which was supposed to be 9+5. They’ve rebooked it for the same day as my 12 week scan but after. It just seems abit strange that my booking appointment is after my 12 week scan when you’re supposed to have bloods at 10 weeks.
I don’t have much hope for the hospital now. Anyone else having problems with their appointments? x

LaVitesse2022 · 28/03/2023 15:16

@LR94 you're right, that doesn't look right as they should have your blood tests when you do your 12 week scan to do the combined screening. Have you tried contacting them to change your booking appt or asked if the new dates work on the same day? It might be that we don't receive the results from the combined screening on the day of the 12 week scan anyway, in which case having bloods done on the same day wouldn't be a problem.

I just got my 16 week appt date for the 2nd May. I feel like I just want to get through the 12-week scan hurdle first before starting to think about that one 😅

ali2021 · 28/03/2023 15:22

@LR94 Not exactly related to NHS appts as I'm in Ireland and going private, but just to reassure you that I had my booking appointment and first scan one after the other on the same day ☺️ It was actually great as it got all the admin done in one go!

Being nosy here but I'm intrigued. How does it all work in Ireland? I'm assuming Southern Ireland?
Is it like private healthcare and do you think it seems better than how we describe?

Tell me to bugger off if you like 😂

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 28/03/2023 15:42

My 12 week nhs scan is on Thursday- I can't wait as I feel like getting passed that hurdle will make me feel a bit safer (well I hope so) but it's not until 1pm so all morning to wait😞

I'm getting a stomach already- I've had a few comments from family and work colleagues that I have a bump over the last week or so, this is my first pregnancy so I thought it would take longer to get a bump🫣

ali2021 · 28/03/2023 16:16

@ttcttc Not at all, happy to share my experience at least.. As its my first, I can't say too much! Public is very good as far as I know, I was just advised to go private for a number of reasons. Private definitely far superior care and reassurance. I am 11+2 and heading to meet my consultant for my fourth appointment since 6 weeks! Public sounds very similar to NHS, very good service but overrun unfortunately.

They do both the scan and the bloods on the same day here.

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and still haven't had my scan date through! I'm getting really impatient and it's not at all practical as I'm solo at work next week and the following week so it'd be really handy to know how I'm going to somehow arrange cover 🤦🏻‍♀️

katherine123x · 28/03/2023 16:58

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway 10+5 here and feeling it the last day or two. Feeling very rounded at the bottom of my stomach and firmer. I'm a size 16 anyway so a bit bigger so can carry it ok at the moment but I can really feel it already and this is my first!

LaVitesse2022 · 28/03/2023 17:08

@Elttek are you based in the UK? If not this won't be helpful for you but might be for others: my scan letter, blood results and 16 weeks appt notification all came online. This is despite midwife saying I'd receive a letter in the post with info on next dates. It'll probably vary by trust, but mine uses the DrDoctor app for the scan letters and the Patient Knows Best portal for test results and appointment notifications. I suggest registering to access those records or checking which online portals your trust uses. If you already have an NHS login you can use that to access those apps.

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 28/03/2023 17:24

@katherine123x it's crazy, im not big but not small either. I wear a size 10-12 in clothes depending on where I shop but I am quite small at 5 foot 2, there's a whole foot difference between me and my partner so wondering if I will have a tall baby

katherine123x · 28/03/2023 17:47

Anyone who has had their 12 week scan? Was it just you and your partner? I don't know if they allow more like private ones?

Summer022 · 28/03/2023 17:57

Feeling a bit fed up, obviously very grateful to have these problems, but the nausea it’s absolutely relentless. I can’t enjoy food, have to be careful I don’t drink too much water as that makes me sick. Can’t stand the smell of my house anymore (doesn’t smell bad 🤣) but it would appear my sense of smell is very much heightened and every smell is affecting me. Going to try some plain mash and veg for dinner to see if that will settle my stomach, but it’s just miserable and no end in sight 🥺 I really really really want the first trimester to be over now. 10+4 today so nearly there, I just hope the sickness goes with it 🙁 Hope you’re all ok ladies x

VictoriaBlossom · 28/03/2023 18:05

@Summer022 I'm curled up on the sofa feeling really rough.
Doggo hasn't left my side and it's like she's feeling under the weather too!
Ready for bed at 6pm!!!
Hope the mash and veg help, super noodles always sort me out when I'm feeling rubbish. But sweetcorn is the one thing I can't stop eating. The last 4 meals have all contained it, 😂😂

RosieMel · 28/03/2023 18:15

@Summer022 yes completely understand. I’m 11 weeks and waiting for the nausea and evening vomiting to stop. I’ve tried 4 different medications and they have all given me serious side effects. Feel like a shadow of myself, miss spending proper time with my husband and even miss being at work. Can’t wait for it to get better
