@BeaKind yes to the half stone gain! I was quite slim pre-pregnancy and I'm so concerned at how different I'm starting to look. Convinced everyone in work can tell even though I've no tummy per se... just the makings of a spare tyre 😆It's taken us a few years to get here and I know I should just be grateful I'm pregnant but finding it really tough surprisingly. Bring on trimester 2 when I hopefully will have more energy to exercise and get this weight gain under control.

LWestYorks · 21/03/2023 20:17

I’m 10+4 today, the nausea has eased the last week of say. Although now I’m getting headaches quite a bit but I got my blood results back from my appointment and I have to collect iron tablets tomorrow as my iron stores are low, not levels but stores. Can anyone shed any light on the difference or ever had this?

Smiffette · 21/03/2023 21:09

@Midnight00 I'm 39 and waiting to have the combined test. If I could afford to I probably would pay privately but I just can't justify it at the moment.

DancingNancies · 21/03/2023 21:11

@Midnight00 also 37, and not having anything other than the NHS bloods
/tests done either. Tbh, I can't afford £400 to get them done, so we'll wait for the NHS ones to come back once I've had a scan mid-April. I figure it isn't going to change anything anyway, so if i can save the money to spend on baby at a later date then I will - god knows I'm going to need it, expensive little things!

ali2021 · 21/03/2023 21:22

@LWestYorks Yes, iron stores is called ferritin, which is different to your haemoglobin levels. It can manifest as fatigue, breathlessness and dizziness... all of which are also pregnancy symptoms ☺️I have had a lot of issues with ferritin over the years, nothing to be worried about once doctor is aware and youre taking your supplements! All will be fine!

EMcG3 · 21/03/2023 21:37

@Midnight00 - 38 here, didn't do NIPT in either previous pregnancy. Last pregnancy the baby had Edwards and it took a handful of weeks longer to diagnose and terminate via NHS than it would have via private NIPT. That said, i think the NHS did a pretty reasonable job and caught it before it came to a head (baby likely would not have survived pregnancy). With private NIPT you are paying for speed/service, not for healthcare. Even having been through that, I think it is very reasonable to choose not to do it. The likelihood of your baby having a condition that could be caught there is elevated by your age but still super low. And, in the end, if your baby has one of those conditions, NIPT doesn't change it, just brings it to your attention sooner.

EMcG3 · 21/03/2023 21:41

I suppose for full disclosure I should say I am doing it this time, but again, wouldn't have if I didn't happen to be one of the unlucky ones last time.

efamcg112 · 21/03/2023 21:43

Worried! I’m 10 weeks pregnant but haven’t told anyone yet as we want to wait until 12 weeks and we’ve had a scan. We don’t smoke and would very very rarely ever be around smoke or any smoky environments but tonight my recently deceased fathers friend came round to visit us and had 4 cigarettes while in my company in our kitchen with the back door closed. I was internally panicking at the risk of second hand smoke so put the kitchen fan on which likely sucked up some of the air but now he’s left I’m panicking like mad and feel guilty that I sat in the room and said nothing incase something happens the baby. Will this one time exposure to the second hand smoke be ok? I’ve googled it and all it keeps coming up is about miscarriage and birth defects and I’m panicking.

VictoriaBlossom · 21/03/2023 21:58

@efamcg112 honestly don't fret.
Example- I've given up smoking, but I walked my dog before I went to the hospital for my booking in appointment. I blew 3 on the co2 machine when I hadn't smoked a cig since I found out I was pregnant. She said it was purely from walking on busy roads. Above 5 basically means you're smoking while pregnant.
Second hand smoke consistently could cause issues possibly but for a few hours, mate- people smoke 20 a day during their pregnancy and have perfectly healthy babies.
Try to not worry, I know it's hard, but if you spoke to your midwife they will say the same as what I have. Sending a supportive hug x

Alexandra07 · 21/03/2023 22:40

@efamcg112 definitely don't worry, you need a lot more exposure to be considered a passive smoker.

@LWestYorks years ago my Dr, not in UK, had told me I have low iron stores and had prescribed iron tablets to take when I have my period and folic acid to take daily(if I remember well), nothing to worry about.

Thanks everyone for sharing your views as an only child!

I fell asleep at 7.30 with my daughter today. Woke up at 10. Let's see what time I'll manage to sleep again now!

Chanteuse · 21/03/2023 23:15

This thread is great for normalising pregnancy! I have luminous wee too 🤣 heartburn has put the kibosh on my hunger tonight though!

Lilacrose27 · 21/03/2023 23:45

@LWestYorks I’m on ferrous sulfate as I have low iron stores apparently it’s to do with your body not having enough ferritin and if there’s not enough your body can’t produce red blood cells. I was told it’s best to take them with orange juice as it helps the body absorb them better. They should tell you how long you’ll need to take them for as well I was told I’d probably be on them for a while after baby is born.

Cammy23 · 22/03/2023 07:34

I had my booking in appointment the other day. I had the carbon monoxide breath test and blew 6. Midwife said it may be because I walked to the appointment. She said not to worry. But reading that over 5 basically means you are a smoker is very worrying. As I am a non smoker. We have several carbon monoxide alarms in the home. The main thing that I think it could be is that live on quite a busy road. And possibly that my work place is next to a station. Although we do have Air con at work.

This has me a little worried and I wish I could test myself again. But the machines are very expensive.

Anyone else had a high reading as a Mon smoker??

LWestYorks · 22/03/2023 08:12

@ali2021 @Alexandra07 @Lilacrose27 thank you ladies - I’d not even heard of it until she said! I suffered with low iron throughout my last pregnancy so knew it would probably happen this time, and I’ve been super tired and very dizzy so all makes sense….although I did just put it down to pregnancy symptoms 🙈 hopefully I’ll perk up a bit when I start them today xx

Beemug · 22/03/2023 09:23

@Cammy23 maybe check the boilers at work and at home??

katherine123x · 22/03/2023 09:36

Ohhhhh the back ache today is a new level!!! Anyone suffering got any advice??

Mamabear345 · 22/03/2023 10:21

12 weeks today! 🙌🏼 and anxiously awaiting results of my Harmony NIPT test 🤞🏼
also excited to find out if I’m having a girl or boy 😬

DSP21 · 22/03/2023 10:31

Marking my place here! Have an private scan today at 8+5 so getting nervous and hoping all is okay!

iloveeggs · 22/03/2023 10:33

@katherine123x All that's been helping me is a hot water bottle. I think i'm going to try some stretches today too, so achey!

katherine123x · 22/03/2023 10:34

@iloveeggs hadn't even thought of that! Thank you

Koalawhala · 22/03/2023 10:45

@Mamabear345 exciting that you will soon know the sex! Fingers crossed for good results from your NIPT.

I wonder whether many people are planning to find out the sex? I didn’t with my two DD but went for a late scan to check that the placenta had moved with DD2 and the sonographer said she could see “her” arm moving so that kind of spoilt that! It seems more uncommon for people to keep it as a surprise so maybe they find it harder now not to say anything, and obviously their job is to look for abnormalities not keep a surprise for you so not complaining

Decided we will find out this time though, probably through a NIPT

iloveeggs · 22/03/2023 10:50

@katherine123x There's some here that I might try, I'm desperate. My lower belly pain has seemed to ease today though thank god.

katherine123x · 22/03/2023 10:53

@iloveeggs thank you. Mine has too just left with back ache. Lots of the others have really eased!

Saturnsmoon · 22/03/2023 11:06

@Koalawhala we’re not finding out. This is our first and I’ve always felt very strongly that I wouldn’t want to know, however since being pregnant I actually do feel a lot more open to finding out before birth which has surprised me. For the moment we’re going to stick with the original plan. We’re awaiting results for nipt but have asked they ‘black out’ the sex before sharing with us. However if we end up finding out at the 20 week scan or later I don’t think I’ll be too upset.

Koalawhala · 22/03/2023 11:13

@Saturnsmoon that sounds like a good attitude to it. A surprise is lovely, especially telling family and friends when the baby is here. I’d be up for another surprise but I think my husband needs to know this time and it will be nice to share with our kids too and plan for the new arrival
