I'm getting vivid dreams most nights now, definitely think it's a pregnancy thing. I've been offered a sweep next Friday, the day before my due date. Keeping an open mind to it just now, has anyone here had this before? Did you think it made a difference?

NewandNrvous · 26/01/2023 10:27

I was having that chat the other day, I have absolutely no idea when they offer sweeps, I've seen some people say they had them at 39 weeks and some not offered until 41 weeksFrom the discussion I've seen it seems some Swear by then and others think they are pointless, I think for me if she offers one I'll get her to check how ready my cervix feels first and then make my choice, if im favourable for it then may give it a go but if its high and closed then will take it as a sign my body isnt ready yet

Peonies94 · 26/01/2023 10:44

@NewandNrvous good luck! Due date tomorrow and feel like she’s never going to make an appearance! Really hoping she’s not late!! I think I started maternity leave too early, but also couldn’t work any longer as I was struggling with having a physical job!

Jusmakingit · 26/01/2023 10:50

@NewandNrvous i had a sweep yesterday , I was 38+3 . My consultant gave the go ahead as I had a bad fall and all my muscles are gone to shit on my pelvis and my blood pressure has gone up since . I’m booked for an induction on Monday as well at 39+1 but would require and epidural due to the pain I’m already in.

since yesterdays sweep Iv had some cramping, more shooting pains and I think my mucus plug is slowly coming away . Everything feels a lot tights and heavier since but that could be from the sweep . Hopefully will know soon if it actually has worked. I was 2cm already and my cervix was in a good position apparently so who knows

Peonies94 · 26/01/2023 10:50

@NewandNrvous its 41 weeks here with me! Though I think if you’re high risk and need to be induced before the 42 weeks they’ll offer you sweeps before hand in hope you don’t need another form of induction!

How is everybody getting on tonight?!

I'm 38 weeks today and just 10 minutes ago got myself in the bath...before going to the bath noticed bits of my mucus plug coming away 😬 never had this with my first so it most definitely got my attention. Feeling very anxious as really don't want to go into labour spontaneously and still waiting on my c section date. Hoping baby hangs on in there 🤞🏽

NewandNrvous · 26/01/2023 19:12

I've been losing my plug slowly for over week now so I wouldn't panic too much just keep an eye out for other signs

I had my Last growth scan today, little one measuring 6lb7 now and I'm all cleared for a midwife led birth as long as i dont go overdue, cleared for sweep next Thursday if i want it 😬 He's fully engaged now so just waiting on him to make his entrance and hope I get my water birth 🤞

FebMama · 26/01/2023 19:19

@NewandNrvous that's really reassuring thank you. I've been getting twinges in my back and bum all day so will have to continue monitoring the situation! Really trying not to worry too much. I actually have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow so I'll mention it then!

Exciting to hear your little one is fully engaged!

Smilesarecontagious · 26/01/2023 19:25

NewandNrvous glad to hear all went well with your scan !!
Fully engaged that's great news!!
I've been having bh for a couple of hours 😓 settling down I think
I've had a water birth absolutely fantastic so I hope you get it 🤞

I'm on high alert for every twinge at the minute! It was strange leaving the hospital knowing that all being well the next time we are there we will be having our baby!

Smilesarecontagious · 26/01/2023 19:47

Yeah that's such a strange but exciting thought isn't it ! Hopefully next time I see it it will be in labour!
These bh are driving me crazy 🤪

Definitely recommend a water birth it was brilliant with my little girl as soon as you get in the water the pain relief is fantastic !!

Here they offer a stretch and sweep at 40 weeks for 1st baby, and 41 weeks for subsequent children.
I've been finding that the best thing for ramping up the tightenings is nipple twiddling! I did it a few nights back and felt a difference, and then last night I did it again and had a big, quite painful contraction. I had to get up and kneel into a more comfy position! I thought for sure the time had come, but there was nothing at all after that...

Midwife told me that semen includes a hormone that can stimulate contractions, and that having orgasms has a similar effect, so if you can do both at the same time, that's ace!

NewandNrvous · 26/01/2023 20:04

I've had my heart set on a water birth from the start, I dont tolerate pain meds very well so I'm hoping the water alone will provide enough relief to keep me going 🤞 are you planning one this time?

Smilesarecontagious · 26/01/2023 20:14

@PotatoFacedWombat
I'll think I'll give the intercourse and semen a miss forr now !! 🤣 couldn't think of anything worse at this point

@NewandNrvous
Yes a water birth would be lovely fingers crossed 🤞
had such an amazing midwife, she gave us oils soft lighting and left us to it, I drew the line at whale music but each to their own!!!

Good luck to everyone ❤️

I am just over 36w and tonight have full cramps and back pains that made me wonder if anything was happening, hence read this thread! Can't remember how labour with my 1st really started and it was only three years ago!!

stockpilingallthecheese · 30/01/2023 01:34

Things are happening here, I'm 39 weeks exactly and waters broke earlier this evening. Went in, was checked and then monitored for an hour before being sent back home. Having contractions now, zero chance of getting any sleep Grin the worst part has been the continuous flooding which I wasn't expecting! Have soaked through so many maternity pads, underwear and trousers so got a wash on now and lying on a pile of towels! This was something I totally wasn't expecting, great fun! Anyway excited but nervous that something is happening!!

Hope you're all doing ok!

NewandNrvous · 30/01/2023 04:50

How exciting! Hopefully it all happens nice and smoothly from here for you and little one is in your arms soon! Good luck! Hopefully see a little update today x

PotatoFacedWombat · 30/01/2023 14:19

Ooooh how exciting stockpiling ! Hope you're feeling okay and that it's all swift and fuss-free.

roarfeckingroarr · 30/01/2023 15:10

Hope it's going well @stockpilingallthecheese !

I'm 40+2 today and very impatient

I am counting down to my sweep on Thursday now, desperate to not go over and end up back under the consultant

The regular braxton hicks getting my hopes up are wearing thin now too 🤦‍♀️ as is the return of the 4am insomnia

I have just had a tiny bit of spotting though only on wiping though so not sure if it's normal cervix getting ready.... 🫤

Smilesarecontagious · 30/01/2023 18:27

@NewandNrvous
Hopefully light spotting is your body getting ready x
My insomnia is back with force 😫
I have an appointment with midwife tomorrow
Not long till Thurs for your sweep exciting times x
I keep telling myself not long now!!

How far along are you now? The days seem very slow but also feel like I'm going to run out of days to get my labour started naturally before I go over and have to go back to the consultant 😬
