@rach971 i know that’s what I thought! I have tried all the tricks and nothing. But as soon as I pressed send I felt two movements down at the lower end of my belly so I think he’s either turned or just in a wierd position. Either way this pregnancy is killing me off with anxiety 😂🤦🏻‍♀️xx

rach971 · 04/03/2023 17:16

@candycrush789 Haha I know the feeling! I deffo think they're super awkward at this stage 😂 I have a doppler and couldn't find the heartbeat a couple weeks ago but then we had a private scan the day after and everything was fine. Tried to listen today and couldn't find it, so I tried again a bit later and found it quite low down on the left but then she moved 😂 They're deffo just being awkward at this stage I reckon 😂 xx

@candycrush789 Haha I was reading up before buying one about how they aren't recommended and can cause more stress. Or even false reassurance. But I've actually been quite good with mine and only used it three times in the 3-4 weeks I've had it. Plus I've done my research to make sure I know what the placenta sounds like so I can differentiate 🙈😂 xx

candycrush789 · 04/03/2023 17:29

@habiller dont my husband has threatened to confiscate it before 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ it helps honestly it does, but sometimes gives me anxiety too! Xx

candycrush789 · 04/03/2023 17:44

@rach971 wow! I use my daily sometimes 2/3 a day 😂 I’m obsessed with it but I think if I didn’t have it I’d always be up the hospital so in a way it’s good! I know people don’t like them but each to their own I guess xx

Rutennotou · 04/03/2023 23:21

Baby girl seems to be fond of my right side, think she's found a comfy spot! She's kicking down low and in the centre at this minute though.

I've had to get a new pregnancy pillow as the one I got a month ago isn't big enough and I keep waking up on my back or too far forward. Terrible hip pain as well and a burning sensation in my thighs if I stay on one side too long. Got a Tommee Tippee one so I'll see how it goes tonight.

PinkPink1 · 06/03/2023 04:54

Insomnia strikes again! 22 weeks pregnant and I got up for a wee at half 2. It’s now almost 5am and I can’t sleep :(

@PinkPink1 It's horrible isn't it. I'm really struggling to get comfy a lot lately as well. Paranoid about sleeping on my right side as it's not supposed to be good, so trying to stick to my left but then my hip starts really hurting from lying on one side so long. Then I'm paranoid about lying too far onto my front. It's a nightmare 😂

EmmRach · 06/03/2023 07:56

@rach971
Check out the Tommy's website RE sleeping on your right side. Might put your mind at rest a bit if you wake up in that position.

It says "Does it make a difference which side I sleep on in pregnancy?
There are many websites that tell you that the left side is best to sleep on during pregnancy. This is for the following reasons:
• One of the smaller research studies, from Auckland, New Zealand, showed that women who sleep on their left side on the last night of pregnancy halved their risk of stillbirth compared to those who slept on their right. However, the same finding has not been seen in any other trial (there have been three other published research studies since then).
• Sleeping on your left has been shown to help your kidneys to get rid of waste products and fluids from your body.
Therefore, while sleeping on your left side has not conclusively been shown to reduce your risk against sleeping on your right, there are reasons that you might choose to do so."

Gizzymac · 06/03/2023 09:15

Oh the insomnia! It's grim. I've got a cold and still can't sleep and I feel terrible :(

PinkPink1 · 06/03/2023 09:35

@habiller @Gizzymac it’s horrendous! I also randomly have a blocked nose at night, but not during the day.

@rach971lying on your left is preferable, but lying on your right is totally safe. I switch over in the night. Just don’t lie on your back.

RandomCatGenerator · 06/03/2023 12:00

Argh so sorry for those with insomnia. It’s just dreadful isn’t it. Like going mad. Really hope it gets better for you.

I’ve just posted a separate thread, about tax free childcare. Does anyone know if you get tax free childcare for your first child while you’re on maternity leave for your second child?

I was up from 2am until god knows last night as I had a really vivid dream. It's horrible as I'm so tired in the day. I'm also waking up frequently to roll over from side to side due to shooting pains in my hips from spd.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 06/03/2023 14:08

Hi all!

I am currently 23 weeks with my first baby and started to have horrible digestive issues (heartburn specifically). Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep, I knew it was going to get me as I got it quite a lot pre pregnancy. I am quite into fruit flavoured Tums - the minty gaviscon type tablets give me the boak. I tried an aniseed gaviscon liquid and it was HIDEOUS. I can't work out what food is triggering it annoylingly.

RandomCatGenerator · 06/03/2023 14:57

@hallodarknessmyoldfriend welcome!

I had heartburn in my first pregnancy - it can be so painful. I found a few things helped:

  • always go for a short walk after a meal. Even like 5-10 mins helps.
  • small meals with snacks in between - ‘the six meal model’ some books call it
  • peppermints / really minty gum.

I hope it gets better for you

Tax free childcare question has been answered (in short: yes).

I have it terrible and had bad issues pre-pregnancy. After trying to self treat with Tums I caved and called the doctor. I was prescribed omeprazole and take 1 a day (preventative), can take two but never needed to. I haven't had ANY heartburn since so I highly recommend it.

Ldougal92 · 06/03/2023 16:27

I love that you said this about lying on your back. I also give myself a few minutes and it feels so “naughty” but it keeps me somewhat sane 😂😂

squirrelnutkins1 · 06/03/2023 20:15

Haha I'm the same! My hips are so painful but a couple of mins on my back helps, even if it's just in my mind!
I've started with heartburn as well. I'm sure I was much further along last time when I got it. I was swigging Gaviscon out the bottle by the end! Ooh aniseed gaviscon sounds right up my street!
