Creating a new thread as we’re about to finish the first - just as we finish our first trimesters!

I'm leaving work at the end of April, but will be using a fair bit of holiday first. My workload has massively increased the last 6 months and I'm finding the job very stressful. I'm also a part-time student and have my last couple of big assignments in before baby arrives. I felt the only thing I can control right now is when I leave work, so I have. I am suppose to be having the GTT, but nothing booked yet. I had an extra midwife appointment due to low iron in previous pregnancy, which caused complications, but midwife wasn't in, so I've been told to wait until my next one in a couple of weeks. I have found my midwife care from my GP really rubbish if i'm honest compared to my previous experience.

Thank you everyone for that guidance! So helpful. I’m confused then because I only have one midwife appointment so I’ll need to check as that seems not right from what you’ve all said.

Would someone like to make a new thread? We are dangerously close to running out of space!

I had the test at 26 weeks (I am outside of the UK and everyone gets tested for it here).

It wasn't as bad as I expected.

  • finger prick test as a baseline
  • 500ml sugary drink
  • blood test after one hour
  • second blood test after another hour

I had to stay seated and relaxed, so I couldn't leave the hospital (took a hypnobirthing book with me).

Had a big lunch afterwards Smile

@gg9320 Thanks for that explanation (and snack tips)! Does everybody have a glucose tolerance test?

Just wondering if it's another thing to look forward to...

I’m 28 weeks tomorrow and haven’t had this test. I think it’s only offered to pregnant women who have higher risk factors for diabetes.

Mine was due to my last pregnancy i lost a baby not due to diabetes but I'm high risk as i have a septum uterus, they've been really good im managing with diet so far, got growth scan at 28wks, 31wks and more after that, cant really fault them to be honest got all my appointments through within a week and theyve been really good.

@colleen02 sorry to hear that, hope you are feeling ok? do they have a plan for how to manage it?

@BackOfTheMum5net I think it’s only if you have certain risk factors , I had mine last week due to higher bmi . It wasn’t too bad, I think I was expecting worse!

@RandomCatGenerator you have a fasted blood sample taken first, generally means no eating after midnight the night before. Then you drink the drink in about 5 mins and wait around 2 hours. I was allowed to go home but some people have to stay in the hospital/GP - sounds like it varies place to place. You’ll then have your second blood sample taken. I’d recommend lining up a nice snack for after your second blood draw! I was starving by the point. Good luck! X

25 weeks today here and baby is forever changing positions. Yesterday she was kicking high up and I've been having strong kicks the last few days. Today she's back to kicking low down and the kicks feeling more 'internal' rather than me being able to see and feel them.

I’m 27 weeks tomorrow and I finally started to show this week! I have a little bump now and the kicks are really intense. Still skinny everywhere else so I’m happy. I’m so exhausted though!

Oops I mean I’m 28 weeks tomorrow!

27+1 and I’m definitely starting to feel
bigger and more uncomfortable, and my back is starting to protest. We’ve just got back from
a weeks holiday (in Wales, nothing exotic!) but I was really surprised how much I struggled walking up hills etc. feels like it’s changed quite a lot in the last week or so?

@AnxiousAnnie94 We are getting there as far as boxes go! Still want to buy a few bits and pieces for this place but it'll all come together in the end.

I've had my glucose tolerance test rescheduled for Monday morning in the hospital that's a 5 minute walk from this new house. I'm supposed to have a consultant appointment in my old area on Tuesday morning. The midwives down here have tried to reschedule it but there's nothing at all until 15th May! In a town 45 minutes away! So all I can do is get to the appointment on Tuesday morning. Which isn't possible as I don't drive and is over an hour away even if I did and public transport would have me leaving home at 6:30am and still being too late 🙄. Big fancy new hospital does absolutely nothing as far as I can tell lol.

@MountainLaurel7 On my pregnancy app recently it says 'your belly button may have popped out by now, but don't worry it'll return to normal once you've had the baby'. Mine didn't tho 🤷‍♀️😂 Only thing I can think it might be is because I had a c-section?

I mentioned about my bad ribs at my midwife appointment last night and she said I had something called rib flare. Basically as baby is getting bigger and pushing up, my boobs are getting bigger and pushing down, my ribs are getting crushed in the middle. She did say it was very painful but unfortunately nothing that can really be done for it 😭 I can try heat patches to see if they help.
On the plus side, my bump measured well and she has plotted baby on 50th percentile so exactly where she wanted him to be for this stage. His heart rate was 136bpm which she was happy with too and he started going mad when she put the Doppler on, kicking away, bless him.

@RandomCatGenerator I hope you have a better day today!

@Rutennotou . I know that feeling! We have been in our house 2 weeks today and I'm now starting to feel like we are getting somewhere and the boxes are now (nearly) all unpacked and the house actually feels like a house and not a storage place! Good luck in your new house :)
