As for opinions of others, with my last 4Dc no family have said a thing....perhaps they know they will get a mouthful from me, if they are over bearing or judgemental? Haha!!
The only comments I had were off midwife and health vistor with Dc2 (2008) He was a v.sleepy baby and my milk was insane, so painful, I tried to bfeed and got to 8 weeks , the midwife and HV were no help and after having a v.bad day of bfeeding, my Dp went and got formula ect and said that me beimg so upset and in pain, simply wasnt worth it..., the HV came in next day and her first words , on seeing formula was ' I knew you wouldnt last long' she was marched out of my house by Dp! I succesfully expressed with DC1 ( born too prem for breast feeding) Dc3 was also hard so stopped at 8 weeks and Dc4 was breastfed for 5 months, this baby will be breafst fed 8 weeks hopefully as I plan to go back to work then

If not a secret, may I ask if your DP is going the childcare after 8 weeks or are you putting the newborn in a crèche/nursery?

Blocklynn · 04/01/2023 11:07

@Splashh I’m actually not (currently, maybe that will change!) worried about labour. I figure baby has to come out some way and finding out about how the uterus works was really good and helped me.

My husband isn’t maternal either 🙈

TeddyBeans · 04/01/2023 11:13

Was in and out of the consultant in 5 minutes. Says there's nothing to do about the glucose - I had two good GTTs. Not worried about the trace protein, not worried about the tingling I've had in my legs/feet overnight. Putting me in for another growth scan in 2 weeks cuz she's measuring a bit small, apparently can't wait til 4 weeks soooo yeah. Not really sure what's going on 😂

@havanamama , I'm quite fortunate in that I'm self employed and my hours are Mon and Thurs 9-12, Tues and Fri 9-2.30, My Dp is also self employed and will be covering my hours.
Though Friday is a bit of a query at mo ( he has a pub/restaurant) In which case I might see if I can swop this day for a Wed or maybe from 6months, baby will go to nursery- which my Sister runs.

TeddyBeans · 04/01/2023 11:14

The poor MCA was more worried about the glucose than the consultant was, bless her

Dreamingof3 · 04/01/2023 11:39

How many weeks are you @TeddyBeans ? What percentile does the estimated weight make her?
I had 2+ glucose at my appt but I was halfway through my gtt so that was probably why 😂

TeddyBeans · 04/01/2023 11:45

@Dreamingof3 32+3 today! Finally had a chance to check the report and she's down as 31st centile for estimated weight. She has a big belly though - 84th centile 😂

OP posts:
Dreamingof3 · 04/01/2023 11:52

I was going to say the weight sounded pretty good...is 31st considered low or has she dropped down a bit?
My girl is on 25th and theyve said thats great 🤷

LizziBee · 04/01/2023 11:56

I've been having regular growth scans as baby is measuring small - he's under 10th but growing steadily (if that makes sense!) Had another today and they want to book me in for c-section (he's also breech...) at 37 weeks if this continues so I could be meeting him in 5 weeks which is a bit terrifying. Has anyone else had experience with babies under 10th percentile?

TeddyBeans · 04/01/2023 12:00

@Dreamingof3 it's my first one so I don't really have anything to compare it to 🤷‍♀️ I have no idea! I didn't get any growth scans with DS so can't even compare to his at the same gestation

We are only doing virtual classes - taking care of babies, safety, and first aid.

I've done a breastfeeding course and my midwife said that around week 36 someone from the NHS will come to my house to tell more about breastfeeding to prepare me for what to expect.

Has anyone had this with their previous pregnancies?

Never heard of anything like this but it sounds SO helpful!
We really struggling to get the hang of bf but the midwives just said they didn’t have the time to help and suggested we contact a helpline. Which wasn’t able to do anything but send a message via WhatsApp due to “covid restrictions”.

I ended up having to do a lot of research online and video calling my best friend.

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 04/01/2023 13:12

Everyone whos having growth scans, when did you have your first? I'm 100% sure the midwife said first would be at 28 weeks, but hospital only seem to have the first one at 32 weeks. Left a message with the midwife to check but thought I'd see what the "norm" seems to be!

Cats23 · 04/01/2023 13:20

Not had any growth issues with mine Im afraid so cant compare.

@LizziBee Gosh 5 weeks! Not long at all

@TeddyBeans Glad all ok

TeddyBeans · 04/01/2023 13:29

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark this was my first one - at 32 weeks

Originally I had 2 growth scans booked - at 32 and 36 weeks, but due to reduced movement one day and a risk factor, I got another one at 29 weeks.

ChristmasJumpers · 04/01/2023 14:25

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark I'm not sure of the norm but I had mine at 28 weeks due to GTT so I think it is usually later on

Perexi · 04/01/2023 14:39

Scan done and he's all ok - growing as expected and all measurements are over 50th percentile so she said nothing to worry about ☺️ she was lovely and talked us through everything and confirmed it's definitely a boy! My placenta hasn't moved as yet so will still need that to get a shift on.

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark mine are booked for a bit later than I was told they would be 32+5 and 38+5 I was told 31 and 37 but the midwife said they are fine.

Dreamingof3 · 04/01/2023 14:51

I've got mine at 28/32/36 weeks (but might be different because it's due to previous gd/big baby?)

@TeddyBeans just looking at my old notes and my last baby was 3lb15 at 32 weeks, so yours does seem about right really! Although it's always nice to get extra checks!

TeddyBeans · 04/01/2023 15:28

@Perexi good news! Are you having more scans to check on your placenta?

@Dreamingof3 oh that's reassuring, thank you! Will be interesting to see how she grows in the next few weeks

I have seen a lot of you mentioned growth scans. My midwife haven’t mentioned it at all and I’ll have an appointment with her at 31W. Should I expect to be offered one then given everything is normal so far?

Katdemar · 04/01/2023 15:39

@Rose429 if you're a low risk pregnancy then I don't think you're offered them as standard. If you go through the later weeks and they have concerns they may book you in for one to check.

I'm only getting one as I'm high risk due to age and IVF pregnancy.

I'm high risk that's why the growth scans.

I believe low risk pregnancies only get 12 and 20 week scans unless any complications occur

Perexi · 04/01/2023 15:55

Hard to keep up in here today, sound's like a busy appointment day!

@TeddyBeans yes have two more booked but the midwife has cancelled the 34 week one which is apparently the important one for the placenta.

I kind of assumed it would have moved by now but apparently there needs to be at least two centimetres and there's only one at the moment so hopefully it will shift a bit more by the next one.

Glad to hear the glucose and protein wasn't a huge worry for the consultant.

I had preeclampsia last pregnancy so have been given them to make sure little lady is growing well and getting enough blood supply.

My midwife did say she'd send me for one if my bump dropped behind its curve any more. I think there's quite a few reasons you could be offered a growth scan

We do feel lucky to have had a uncomplicated pregnancy so far, but still bummed not being able to see our little girl again until her birth. Can’t bear paying for private scan again though - £80 is steep!
