Most of what we ended up with for DC was passed down to us but I did buy a few things (mainly second hand from eBay).

I’ve found Lindex to be pretty good for clothing which works for either boy or girl. I’ve never really gone for gendered clothing.

Babynum2 · 19/01/2023 01:33

Oh don't worry ladies I got them all over with DC1 and they never went! My stomach looks like Freddie kruger

hellosunshineagainxxx · 19/01/2023 03:06

I hate boring baby boy clothes. I have a 3 y/o and this second one is a boy too. Look online at next and george asda. Also tu sometimes. It really varies per season you have to shop around! I mix these staples in with the odd thing from etsy/more independent sellers like little loves cornwall and little green radicals

Choc2022 · 19/01/2023 04:45

Would you guys say mint green/sage green is girly, boyish or neutral? Would you say grey is girly, boyish or neautral?

LittleAcorn20 · 19/01/2023 07:27

@Choc2022 neutral I think. I had my daughter in lots of mint green/sage (she was surprise gender) and it's all out and washed for ready for this surprise gender baby too.
Plain white babygrow, hand knitted mint green cardi and hat 🥰 literally one of my favourite things to put her in when she was born!

Grey I think is neutral too

allthingssparkly · 19/01/2023 07:32

@Cuppasoupmonster yes yes and yes! why are the baby girls things so much nicer than boys? and also more choice in girls than boys! I also find that the very small amount of nice boys clothing that I spot in stores is so poor on stock sizing! 🫠 your not alone x

allthingssparkly · 19/01/2023 07:34

@Choc2022 grey and sage green are definitely unisex/neutral as I've bought some bits in these colours for my baby boy, as I can't stand the baby blue colour 😆😆

LittleAcorn20 · 19/01/2023 07:35

@Cuppasoupmonster for boys clothes that are more colourful, patterned try either Lindex or Frugi.
I love those brands for my daughter and would be excited to buy boys clothes off there if this one is a boy, there's lots of gorgeous boys stuff too. And it's great quality/washes well so consider searching it on Vinted if the price tags put you off.

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/01/2023 07:42

Thanks I’ll take a look on Vinted. I said the other day if I won the lottery I would start a baby items shop with lots of gorgeous boys clothes in yellow, mint, red etc with cute ducks and bunnies rather than diggers and dinosaurs 😂 also nice baby bouncers that don’t cost the Earth as the choice there is very bad as well!

Babynum2 · 19/01/2023 08:01

@Choc2022 my moses basket is mint green and having a boy its my favourite colour!

Blocklynn · 19/01/2023 08:53

@Choc2022 I’m having a surprise and have things in green, yellow and grey.
Lots of neutral things and some blue too if I liked the item. Even when we know the sex I won’t be clothing them in fully baby blue or pink 🤷‍♀️

havanamama · 19/01/2023 08:57

I think it's less about the colour but more about the design, as many girly things are in neutrals but with frilly bits, crochet

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/01/2023 09:28

I agree Havana you’ll find something lovely and neutral but with frilly sleeves and think 🙄

I’m not a heavily gendered dresser but even I won’t put my son in a frilly pink top 😂

Is anyone else planning to start eating dates closer to their due date? Turns out there’s actually a bit of evidence that they can help soften the cervix and bring on dilation. Think I’ll start at 35 weeks so 2 weeks before induction, also the raspberry leaf tea although I’ve no idea if that works 🤪

Anyone else looking round at their house and thinking OMG it’s a bomb site I have so much to do before baby is here 😱 Need to do a big sort of DD’s toys and make some more space because it’s carnage!

Dreamingof3 · 19/01/2023 09:29

I'd definitely say sage and grey are neutral. We had a surprise with our last baby and I had loads of really colourful things. Was also going to suggest lindex and/or vinted
I'm trying to find the balance between getting organised and not doing it all too early 😂 we have managed to find a chest of drawers/changing unit local to us for free though, so collecting that tomorrow....which means I can finally put away the pile of clothes currently sat in the corner of the 'nursery'

Stretch marks...ive always had them! Too much weight yo-yoing! I actually couldn't care less, I can't control it and its not like I show my body much anyway 🤷

Flittingaboutagain · 19/01/2023 10:19

Older, second hand Frugi (prior to the original owners selling the business in 2018) is really good quality but the more recent stuff fades and shrinks.

I bought so many dates and then had a prem baby before I had eaten any so they were my go to snack at all hours in the fourth trimester whilst establishing bf! This time I'll hopefully keep baby in long enough to eat them!

havanamama · 19/01/2023 10:28

I love dates, especially Medjool, but I'm in two minds - I want baby to come between 37-40 weeks ideally, but also don't want to consume too much sugar 😂

Mine is ok but we are renovating our bedroom the whole 38th week 🥲 so if baby comes early, I wouldn't want to expose her to the drying paints, so might have to stay at the in-laws haha

iratepirate · 19/01/2023 13:54

Can’t stand dates but I will probably be eating a lot of fresh pineapple closer to the time (constant nausea permitting).

Deut28 · 19/01/2023 14:29

JoJo Maman Bebe have some more interesting options for boys. Still a disproportionate amount of dinosaurs and diggers, but also lots of different animal themes and range of colours. You can also get girls' and boys' clothes in the same theme, so almost matching if you one of each.

Sorry to swing back to the hospital bag chat, but anyone who’s started packing theirs how big is your bag? I got out my little cabin suitcase thinking that would be plenty and easier to roll than carrying a bag but it’s basically full already and I’ve only got half the things on the list 😂

I'm doing mine this weekend I think and planning on a little cabin suitcase for me and using the changing bag for all his bits ....

I've put all baby's stuff in her changing bag and have two backpacks for me. One for labour and one for post birth

Babynum2 · 19/01/2023 17:05

I've got a large gym bag with everything in it has 3 zip bits so I've broken it up baby, me before birth and me after.

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/01/2023 17:08

Oh God, mumsnet seem to be the masters of under packing (and under buying for baby - just a few muslins and 0-3 sleepsuits apparently 😉) but my bag is MASSIVE. Probably because I know it’s likely we will spend a few days in hospital at least. I’ve packed a sports hold-all for labour and a small/medium size suitcase for anticipated stay after. Here’s my list if it helps:

Labour bag: Nightie, bikini, towel, pyjamas, 1 pair of knickers, 1 maternity pad (the last few things to change into after the birth before we go onto the ward), a couple of nappies, 2 vests and sleepsuits and mitts/hat, my diabetes medications, bottle of lucozade, bottle of water, snacks, lip balm (gas and air makes lips very dry very quickly)

Hospital bag: 1 more set of pyjamas, a pair of leggings, a vest top, zip up hoodie, 3 pairs of knickers, bra, flip flops for the shower, wash bag/toiletries, hair brush, more nappies and maternity pads, breast pads, dummies, a few more sleepsuits and vests, a fleece pram suit, my kindle (will pack that later)

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/01/2023 17:12

Oh and don’t forget coins for parking and phone charger! (Rookie error I made last time)
