The anxiety I have about these growth scans is unreal, my next one is on Monday morning when I'll be 33 weeks. I had my first one at 28 weeks and baby was plotting on the 90th centile with an estimated fetal weight of 3lbs2oz 😖 my consultant said she'd would like baby to stay on the 90th centile and not drop or go above this, so I'm very intrigued to see what the findings are on Monday.

I really don't want to be induced this time either, I was with both my other children but was really hoping for more of a spontaneous labour this time round 😞 we shall see what happens.

Totally feel this. I’ve always been quite blasé about growth scans..as I measured incredibly small last pregnancy & had alot of scans...was induced told baby would be 5lb and he was actually 8lb...and such a chub.

however seen midwife today - my next growth scans was due next week but she rung for an emergency scan tomorrow and it pulling forward ASAP as baby hasn’t grown in last 3-4 weeks 🙃 so now I’m worrying.

she said measuring small etc is dependent on how people carry but when bump size doesn’t grow or plateaus that’s when they send for emergency scan. I’m praying baby is ok in there 😩 x

G0ldfinch · 12/01/2023 18:01

@iratepirate yes I’ve had this, instances on and off for the last couple of weeks. Also had a cold recently.

It said on my notes to flag up vision changes straight away, which I did, and it was taken quite seriously. 3hrs at the local labour ward to check urine, bloods and blood pressure - even did a full neurological work up. But no pre-eclampsia for me, so that was good news. Apparently you can get vision changes in pregnancy and the thought was it was perhaps that plus/or the cold. I’ve since figured out water helps, so perhaps part dehydration?

They’ve done some tests here. Still waiting for the doctor to see me but they’re happy with BP now, monitor for movements and no protein. I don’t drink enough water at the best of times so it’s most likely that.

havanamama · 12/01/2023 18:06

@Blondewave ohh, fingers crossed for you all will be ok! 🤞

havanamama · 12/01/2023 18:09

I personally can't wait for baby to come, I hope she comes at 37 weeks full term mark. I'm mentally ready, nursery done, bags packed, just want her to be here already.

I think I accidentally stumbled upon some stillbirth posts tonight and scared myself. It's crazy how much the risk increases after 40 weeks

Blondewave · 12/01/2023 18:11

Has anyone had emergency growth scan? I got booked in urgently despite having a routine growth scan due to being high risk next week. They pulled it to tomorrow. I’ve never worried about percentile or anything like that from scans or even fundal height as I measured super small last pregnancy and was told tiny baby but he was a chunky 8lb

however being emergency referred for a scan due to no growth of bump since last appt has me super worried. Anyone had this? Bump stopped growing? Thanks

Cuppasoupmonster · 12/01/2023 18:12

I haven’t blonde, might be worth a new thread? Hope you’re okay x

I had an emergency growth scan as I had a moment of reduced movement. Although monitoring found that baby was totally happy and fine, I have a high BMI, which apparently is a risk factor for small babies due to potentially restricted space. Therefore they had an emergency scan.
In practice it was the same as any scan.

We had our first round of IVF at the Hewitt centre in July and have a due date of 27th March 2023!
Havent found out the sex as we want a nice surprise

LaForza101 · 12/01/2023 18:35

The carbon monoxide test seems mainly to catch smokers and encourage them to join quitting clinics, which feels a bit underhand. But as it can also catch issues like carbon monoxide leaks in your home it is worth doing.

We have a friend who told us that one time her carbon monoxide result was surprisingly high pregnancy. Obviously she hadn't taken up smoking half way during pregnancy but the midwives didn't really believe her. It turned out she had recently been to a restaurant with a carbon monoxide leak. Scary that a couple of hours has a traceable effect on the body. Baby was fine though 🙂

Oh I’m totally the opposite. I’m praying he doesn’t come early..as I’m not ready at all. All our house stuff is in boxes so need to unpack from moving house..house has no floor currently so need that done..I have a mental note of what I’m putting in the hospital bag but not packed or bought..we also want to do a baby moon as we’ve been super busy recently and want some relax time together before baby and have to do the babies nursery..buy the cot etc..I’m 32 weeks tho so keep thinking I have loads of time...
However the little time we have left doesn’t seem enough..& now I’m worrying baby may be delivered early due to stopping growing 😳🙄🙃

Enjoy the feeling of being prepared as some of us are headless chickens right now 🤣😂

NM1819 · 12/01/2023 19:11

Hi, can i join? I'm due on the 23rd March. Just wondered how often people are seeing midwives? I saw her at 8 weeks, then scan at 12, then phone call at 16 weeks, scan at 20 weeks, then not seen till 28 weeks. Now waiting for my next appointment which isn't until 34 weeks - this seems way too far away from memory of my first? Especially as she sent me for a scan the day after my 28 week appointment as bump was measuring nearly 2 weeks ahead (turns out she's just a bit chunky 😂). Just thought with it being final trimester they'd still want to see you more regularly, regardless of whether it's my first or not? Thanks!

Welcome to the group. I also had IVF in July and due 30th March so very close 😊 we found out though, I couldn't wait! We're having a girl

Cdoc · 12/01/2023 19:26

@Blondewave I haven’t had this, I’ve had a growth scan and another next week due to measuring off the chart and excess amniotic fluid. Easy for me to say but try not to worry, I am sure there are many reasons why bump may not have grown. Thinking of you tomorrow hope the scan goes well

havanamama · 12/01/2023 19:31

@Blondewave 😂 I'm 32 weeks too! I don't want baby to come early, not prematurely, just at the start of full term if possible, but I know that's out of my control.

@NM1819 I'm a first time mum and have had midwife appointments in person at :
7
10
16
20
25
28
31 weeks and will have at 34, 36, 38, 40, and 41.

This I think is the standard in my area as they gave me a sheet with dates and what tests and checks happen at each appointment and what we will discuss.

Babynum2 · 12/01/2023 19:40

@NM1819

I've had midwife at 12, 20, 28, 31 and 34 weeks. I'm under complex care team so also see consultatlnt in between these appointments. I think every trust us different to be fair.

eeek it hit me today that my stitch is coming out in 4 weeks time at 37weeks and there's a very high chance he will come shortly after that because I have hardly any cervix left! So scary but so happy because this pregnancy has been horrid.

John100 · 12/01/2023 19:55

Congrats! Exciting times

NM1819 · 12/01/2023 20:09

Thanks everyone. My notes have the usual list of appointments and what will be discussed etc, at my 8 week appt the midwife scribbled out the 31 and 34 week appointments and wrote 32 so was a bit shocked when she said they didn't need to see me again until 34 weeks! I am assured it has 'nothing to do with covid' and that appointments have always been this far apart in my trust but I have no one else to check with. I'm low risk (thankfully), so don't want to be seen more than necessary - this just seems really far apart. Congratulations to everyone!

Blocklynn · 12/01/2023 20:40

havanamama · 12/01/2023 17:09

I haven't had a carbon monoxide test. Is that if you're a smoker or live with a smoker?

Neither of us smoke, I hadn’t thought about it being to catch secret smokers but maybe that’s the reason.

Babynum2 · 12/01/2023 20:50

I had carbon monoxide test at booking appointment with all 3 of mine I'm not a smoker either.

TeddyBeans · 12/01/2023 20:58

The carbon monoxide test also picks up if you're at risk at home, eg if you don't have a carbon monoxide alarm and your boiler is leaking. It's a gas that doesn't smell and can be deadly so better to be safe than sorry!

Sending well wishes @Blondewave I hope everything goes ok at your scan 🤞 x

ChristmasJumpers · 12/01/2023 21:41

Is the carbon monoxide test a little tube that you blow into? I've done it twice, once at booking in and again at 28 weeks. I'm not a smoker and had no idea what it was for but seem to have had okay results

Cats23 · 13/01/2023 00:06

Had my 1st CM test too at 28 weeks, midwife said it was a new thing and to check exposure- non smokers here.

I went to Aldi today, only a small section to what was available last few years - I hoped to get a changing mat and changing bag and their boxes of wipes- none on offer this time, did get babygrows, muslins, hooded towel and dummies though!
