Here’s a new thread for the upcoming new year.

I think we’ve got all due dates covered now but newbies are still of course most welcome. We’re a friendly, chatty bunch so do feel free to join in.

AnnieApple123 · 29/12/2022 19:39

@Havanalily1806 Interestingly I’m someone who generally is quite prone to sickness. I’ve had terrible motion sickness since childhood. I had no sickness at all in my first pregnancy though and this one hasn’t been bad either so far. Seems like there’s not a strong link?

@LS888 good luck for your scan! I have mine on Saturday. I think it will definitely feel real if all goes well with the scan 🤞🏼

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 29/12/2022 19:43

@DesertSnow thank you for the app info.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 29/12/2022 19:44

@LS888 not many matches for us on the app too 😂 agreeing a name might be become an issue haha.

We also have an early scan tomorrow and feeling very nervous. I know at 6+2 the chances of seeing a heartbeat are 50/50.
Wishing you all the luck with yours 🥰

BCxx · 29/12/2022 19:49

Just read everyone’s messages so can’t remember who said what 🙈

I find the fact they don’t test hcg levels mad too, especially given how bad some pregnancy tests on the market are for false positives!

The thought of another 12 week scan in just over a month feels surreal to me. The last week from 6 to 7 weeks has gone in so fast, probably due to Christmas but I’m hoping January is as quick!

My stomach is like a bottomless pit and it just cannot be filled. I had four slices of toast the other night as a snack, yes FOUR! I just felt so starving after two that I had to make another two 😂 Managed a full 12” pizza last night to myself.. usually I’d eat half and be full but there was no stopping me 🙈 I slept til half 10 this morning too, I just couldn’t get out of bed! I remember the second trimester being completely fine last time so I don’t even care if I’m milking it over the next month, the first bit is so hard!

BCxx · 29/12/2022 19:50

@MinnieFirstTimeMum good luck tomorrow, I think I was 6+ 4 last time and saw a heartbeat. Mine is on Saturday at 6+5 so really hoping there’s one or I feel like I’ll spend NYE struggling to hide my disappointment

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 29/12/2022 19:52

Thank you @BCxx I will keep my fingers crossed for a heart beat then.

Good luck for yours too 🤞🏻

Can I join?

I'm 8+3, first pregnancy, absolutely miserable with nausea and sickness 🫤

LS888 · 29/12/2022 20:00

Thanks all- I think I will be about 8+6 based on my ovulation dates being a week later than ‘normal’.

Has anyone started to think about nuchal fold tests? There seems so many uncertainties with them from reading online and mumsnet (I’m no expert!). As I’m 36 it seems it will already increase my risk factor. Torn between being as educated about it as possible it to not having it at all. I wouldn’t want anything to further risk a miscarriage. I know this test doesn’t happen until my 12 week scan which will be 18th January but just trying to get my head around it. Has anyone with other children got any experience of the test?

froglou · 29/12/2022 20:04

Hello!
Only just found out I'm pregnant, due 1st September but it's my second (DD is 5) so also wanted to jump on the august thread if that's ok!
Already feeling super nauseous 🤣

blondebanana · 29/12/2022 20:07

Thanks for new thread!

blondebanana · 29/12/2022 20:08

Congrats @froglou welcome 🤗

somuchtolearnabout · 29/12/2022 20:27

@LS888 I had the harmony test with my second son because he had a high nuchal fold reading. I was 33 at the time and I'm 35 now so I'm bracing myself for needing it again. Although I have lots of friends who have all had babies in their 30s and I'm the only one who's ever had a high reading, so it's definitely not guaranteed due to age. My sister is also pregnant and she's 37, her readings were also fine. I won't lie, the 2 weeks waiting for the harmony test results were some of the worst weeks of my life, so I'm hoping and praying it doesn't happen again. The harmony is offered as standard with my hospital (kings) and it's totally risk free as it's a simple blood test. If you get a high reading from the harmony then you can choose to have an amniocentesis or CVS which carry a small but still existing risk of miscarriage, but they do give you an exact diagnosis. For that reason I would always choose to do the harmony first if you have the means to do so.

If your trust doesn't offer harmony as standard then you can pay privately which I know some of the girls on here are doing. I think the results are quicker too if you go private.

somuchtolearnabout · 29/12/2022 20:28

Welcome @froglou and congrats! Lovely to have you on board.

Can someone add the fb link for any newbies that fancy joining please ❤️

LS888 · 29/12/2022 20:40

@somuchtolearnabout thanks for that. I’m not sure if they offer harmony in my area. Any idea how you would find out? The place where I am going for the early scan tomorrow does offer it as it just came up on a quick google search. Was your sons harmony test ok? So the harmony just gives you a risk factor similar to the nuchal fold test but it seems to be more reliable?

Sjw30 · 29/12/2022 20:55

Oops didn’t realise we were on a new thread already!

somuchtolearnabout · 29/12/2022 21:12

@LS888 It's similar to the combined test but far more accurate. The combined test is standard at 12w scans across the board as far as I'm aware, and it essentially tells you the probability of someone with the same blood results / the same nuchal fold results as you - of having a baby with a chromosomal defect. Down's / Edward's / Patau's.

The harmony test will take a sample of your blood which which will include some of your DNA, and some of the DNA of your unborn baby. It will then extract this DNA and use it to predict the possibility of your baby having Trisomy 21, in much the same way as the combined test does (in that it's a prediction based on your results) but it's far more accurate as the prediction is based on actual DNA, which the combined test is not. Both aren't exact as they're predictions and aren't based on exact results. CVS and amnio are based on data from your actual baby.

Yes thankfully my sons harmony test was absolutely fine. Came back very low risk. I have read on here though that some people get a high risk reading back on the harmony, then go on to have CVS / amnio and it's negative.

I think it's quite unusual to offer the harmony on the NHS. Kings is a prenatal research facility which is why they offer it, but its the only trust in London that I know of which does it. You can def ask your midwife team though xx

Place-marking x

LS888 · 29/12/2022 21:16

@somuchtolearnabout Thank you! That has been really helpful. There definitely is so much to learn!

AnnieApple123 · 29/12/2022 21:20

@CityKity I had a lot of thoughts in my last pregnancy about getting to the 12 week scan and the sonographer saying, ‘What are you doing here?! You must be crazy! There’s no baby here!’ It really was so hard to believe at times.

How are you doing now @Sjw30 ?

Place marking.
Nausea and exhaustion is something else this week. I don't fancy going back to work feeling like this. Bloat is unreal, I had to unbutton my jeans this afternoon.

Welcome newbies!

Nic2908 · 29/12/2022 21:28

Had our early scan today 7+2 which is exact based on my ovulation. Baby had a heartbeat and all looked good so that was amazing. Sickness and nausea has ramped up for sure the last 24 hours I’ve vomited about four times.

I had the harmony test with my son, I had it early at 10 weeks, absolutely personal choice. As a paeds nurse to me it was a no brainer. Took about 7 days to come back luckily all was ok, I also found out at 10 weeks I was having a boy too!! I was 35 when I had the test. Will absolutely having the test again this time.

jollydollyirl · 29/12/2022 21:45

Ladies, any of you who enjoy running, any advice? I haven’t run since we found out we were expecting and I really miss it! Scared to get back out incase I do some sort of damage. Would you advise reducing speed/distance?

CityKity · 29/12/2022 22:01

@jollydollyirl I run regularly, and ran as usual from weeks 1-4. I dropped frequency in weeks 5-6 because of fatigue and icy roads, and weeks 7-8 I’m back up to usual again and have my energy back. My usual run routes are 5/7.5/10k runs so no crazy distances, and my moto right now is just to listen to my body and either do a short run if I’m feeling tired or if I’ve got more stamina still do my longer runs, but again keep the pace easy enough to talk throughout and not raise HR too high.
I’m also not tracking my runs, there’s no need to compare pace to pre-pregnancy and get down about it!
I’ve really enjoyed getting back out there after a little dip, it’s really helped my energy levels and general mental health. The midwife was very encouraging to keep it up.
