Hi all,
obvs still very early days. I’m currently 4+4 and just trying to enjoy it really. Just wondering if anyone wanted to join me to share early symptoms, how you’re managing to hide symptoms, how you’ll reveal your pregnancy to loved ones etc. and all the other bits and bobs on this journey 🄰

@Babybear12 Hiya! I am also week 10 tomorrow and have been experiencing the same symptoms! Period cramps in the beginning then feels like they are back. It's like a pulling feeling! I also googled as I was worried but I think it's just because it's all growing! Have you had any morning sickness? I haven't had any touch wood so far!! Just sore boobs! X

@Mummy2B1983 I can’t find the post you are responding to but wondering whether that’s same as what I’m experiencing last few days - not period like cramps like I experienced earlier but more like a sharp pulsing (not painful), currently lower right side but also other times lower left side. It’s freaking me out! Is this what you are feeling or are yours more traditional cramps?

Augustbabyy · 10/02/2023 11:54

Hope everyone is well! I'm 11+3 and can't wait until my 12 week scan next Wednesday!

What has everyone's approach been to telling friends & family? I decided to wait until after the 12 week scan, which is now feeling very soon! This is my 1st pregnancy but unplanned (and I'm not in a relationship). I'm 34, have a decent job etc but feel like a teenager when I think about telling my parents..!

Nik84 · 10/02/2023 13:53

Hi @Augustbabyy I’m 11+1 and I have my scan next Thursday! Don’t worry about feeling like a teenager telling your parents, I do too and I’m 38, married with 2 kids 🤣🤣

allgoodthings84 · 10/02/2023 14:03

@Augustbabyy my scan is next Wednesday too. I’ll be 12+6 but I know I’m around 3 days behind as I ovulated later than the 14dpo they base it on. So I’m 11+1 by LMP today too. I’m scared of telling my dad and I’m 38 and have a 7 year old šŸ˜‚ because I don’t live with my partner at the moment (he has commitments where he lives which is an hour from me so he has to split his time at his home and with me). I know my dad will get funny about that but for the 12-18 months that’s the way it’s going to have to be.

Mummy2B1983 · 10/02/2023 15:20

@Lhdale hiya! I think the post was early on in the thread. It's like a mild cramping but not as severe as period pains more of a pulling sensation! Touch wood, not had it today! Xxx How are you feeling? Is it quite severe? X

DandelionPockets · 10/02/2023 15:30

Hi everyone!! I've also got my 12 week scan soon, Tuesday next week. I am so so nervous and excited. I've not had any scans yet so it will be the first time I see the little baby. Also not told anyone yet and only planning to after the scan, I'm so excited to tell my mum she's going to be a granny for the first time 😭

Anyone else getting hip pain when sleeping on their side? Apparently my uterus likely has grown and pinched a nerve or something, it's so painful. I need a massive pregnancy pillow!

Augustbabyy · 10/02/2023 16:29

@Nik84 thank you, I think I will feel SO relieved once everyone knows!

@allgoodthings84 I think I'm going to get bombarded with questions about living arrangements etc - the father of my baby is currently an hour from me, so lots of logistics to think about too!

@DandelionPockets I feel very lucky that so far the extent of my symptoms have been really sore boobs, fatigue, and the odd headache....sleeping is comfortable so far, but I do think those giant pregnancy pillows look super comfy!

allgoodthings84 · 10/02/2023 16:39

@Augustbabyy yea I’ll get it all too but just going to try and ignore peoples comments but I think it would mostly be my dad. I don’t care what people I don’t really know think.

@DandelionPockets I had to use a pregnancy pillow with my daughter but not until around 25-30 weeks. I expect I’ll need to buy another one this time too later on. I have slept on my side for the last 8 years though ever since I was pregnant before as it became natural to me.

We are most excited to tell my partners family as there are no grandkids on that side. I have my daughter already so not a first grandchild on my side but my mum is happy. I told her as she knew about my 2 early miscarriages as I see her twice a week so she could tell something was up. Only my mum, boss and manager at work and my best friend know until after the scan. We are only telling close friends and family though. We won’t be doing social media announcements. I’m looking forward to seeing who is brave enough to first ask at work and at school gates etc as I’ll probably just look like I’m getting chubby before it’s obviously pregnancy šŸ˜‚

Babybear12 · 10/02/2023 18:06

Hi everyone 11 weeks+1! I am suffering really bad the past two weeks with phlegmy throat and congestion! The phlegm in my throat is unbearable and keeps making me vomit 🤢 has anyone else experienced this and found anything has helped? I read that this is common in pregnancy 😭

Babybear12 · 10/02/2023 18:08

Omg im 11+1 also and first scan next Thursday! 🄰🤣🤣

Owlgirl14 · 10/02/2023 18:12

@Londongirl87 How are you feeling, I think you said you were suffering with flu last time we spoke.

Congrats on your Harmony results and wow that's amazing to know you're having a girl so early on. Would you mind sharing what Harmony is, I'm guessing it's done privately.

@Augustbabyy I'm 11+3 today too and have my scan next Thursday so very similar.

We haven't told anyone yet, it's our first and unplanned and people are going to be as surprised as us as we never planned/discussed with others about having kid, quite the opposite from me really šŸ˜‚

My mum will be over the moon as it will be her first grandchild and won't expect it from me as I told her she'd have to get one from my brother šŸ˜‚

It's more telling my boss as she is anti kids and I was along the same lines so she wont see it coming. Also there has just been no stability in our team for several years and we are trying to sort it out but now this will add to the mix!

How's everyone's symptoms now at 11 weeks. I've had a rough few days but think I've been having a flare up of my condition on top of pregnancy symptoms. So I've just felt really unwell.

My symptoms are still occurring late afternoon/early evening and often last until bedtime so can't always sleep that well.

I did just think today I haven't really felt any growing/cramping pains really and I'm petite so now worrying a bit. Get plenty of bloat though šŸ˜‚

Owlgirl14 · 10/02/2023 18:13

Ooh quite a few scans next Wednesday and Thursday. šŸ¤ž for us all. x

Moni81 · 10/02/2023 18:31

Looks like I will be the last one with scan on 24th at 12+6. It's my thirds pregnancy and I don't know I feel a bit detached mentally so far, hope it will change. Does anyone got their symptoms ramped up recently. I had no nausea so far and suddenly past couple of days I feel sick all the time, also getting growing aches and boobs getting more sore. With previous pregnancies it was the other way around and would feel better at this point.

allgoodthings84 · 10/02/2023 18:59

@Augustbabyy just realised I put I’m 11+1 too but I’m actually 12+1! Time ran away with me 😮

@Owlgirl14 I’ve not really had many pains either. I had light cramping week 4-6 but nothing really since then and I saw baby at 9 weeks. I only had stretching pains once with my daughter in the first 12 weeks too so it’s nothing to worry about

@Moni81 I’ve had nausea and sore boobs since 4/5 weeks but it started to ease of at 10 weeks until a few days ago the nausea got worse again.

allgoodthings84 · 10/02/2023 19:00

Ease off

May94x · 10/02/2023 19:02

Hi everyone I’m 11+5 and my nausea has reduced significantly in the last few days and while I know realistically this is normal as the placenta starts to take over, I can’t help but panic and think the worst!!

My scan isn’t until the 21st when I’ll be 13+2 which feels like a lifetime away

Londongirl87 · 10/02/2023 19:19

@Owlgirl14 Thank you for asking! I did have a really bad flu all last week with fever and everything, which led us to ask the place where we were planning to do the Harmony test if we could do it earlier. They said yes so we went on Sunday at 10+2 and we saw the little one moving around which was amazing and so reassuring! I was really scared that the fever and paracetamol might have had an impact.
I only have a bad cough now so I think I am seeing the end of it but it has been the worst flu I’ve ever had!

For Harmony, we did it privately, mostly for peace of mind. It costs 400-500 pounds depending on where you do it and comes with a scan. Results came after 4 days for me which was really good!
If you are not too worried / anxious (my partner and I are both always worried) you can just wait to get your 12 weeks scan and screening with the NHS, I think some hospitals actually offer the Harmony test for free if your NHS test shows a risk

DandelionPockets · 10/02/2023 21:51

@Augustbabyy aww I hope your symptoms stay really manageable! I'm really eyeing up the big pillow..and thinking where's my DP going to sleep for the next 6 months.

@allgoodthings84 oh well done for changing your sleeping position. I'm a lifetime belly sleeper even though I've tried and tried to change it because of the neck aches. Struggling with getting comfy still!

@Owlgirl14 I'm kind of the same, people at work think I'm someone who would never have kids not sure why, I'm only 34! So feeling almost worried about them knowing, not sure why. Hope you start to feel a bit better soon.

@May94x I'm the same, nausea has really eased off the last week. I still have other symptoms and no reason to worry so just enjoying not feeling like I'm on a boat for the first time in 2months.

Owlgirl14 · 10/02/2023 22:09

@Londongirl87 I'm glad you're feeling a bit better now, must have been an anxious time for you. It's good you've now got piece of mind.

I tend to get anxious when I'm ill and hate it as I've been through several rough periods in the last 6/7 years. Surprised I'm not overly anxious about actually being pregnant as I wouldn't chose to intentionally do it šŸ™ˆšŸ˜‚

@DandelionPockets thank you, every night I seem to have a bad headache and feel
Nauseous. Never really had headaches before being pregnant. And my symptoms are always on an evening, I tend to be ok in the day.

Those close to me at work know my stance on kids as I've never held back but I know they will be happy for me. But people change their minds about kids all the time apparently! I've been told I'd make a great mum by several people years ago so that's nice to know. I may just wait to see people looking at me and trying to work out if I've put a bit of weight on or if I'm pregnant šŸ˜‚

laurapalmer22 · 11/02/2023 16:12

I have my 12 week scan this Monday. Nervous and excited! Everything looked good at my early private scan 4 weeks ago but anything can change.

I feel like an outlier when it comes to telling people. šŸ˜… While I haven't announced it widely and officially, we did tell our closest family and a few of our very closest friends almost immediately, around week 4 and 5. Then I've told people in work contexts where it made sense and felt natural. As we're getting closer to 12 weeks we've also told friends when we meet in person because we only ever get together every 5-6 months or so and it's nice to tell them in person. So it's been a gradual reveal really.

Londongirl87 · 11/02/2023 17:51

@laurapalmer22 Same here! I told my parents straight away on Christmas day, we told my boyfriend’s parents just after our early scan at 8 weeks, and I’ve told my closest friends over the past few weeks too.

We haven’t told most of my boyfriend’s friends and my other friends, we will wait until after the 12 weeks scan.

Work is tricky: I told a few people this week because I got offered a promotion and I wanted them to know because it felt more fair, but I have not told my close colleagues or my boss yet!

laurapalmer22 · 12/02/2023 23:38

@Londongirl87 Congrats on the promotion! I told work when they wanted me to go on field trips to countries pregnant people should avoid going to (virus risk), I figured it made more sense to just tell them I'm pregnant than make up some bogus excuse.

Owlgirl14 · 13/02/2023 13:39

@Londongirl87 Congrats on the promotion. I've been asked to do a new role on secondment for 12 months but it
needs the job spec finalising and grading so I'm just waiting on that although it's been a few months already so god knows when that may be. Hoping I can still do some of the role eventually before I can go on maternity leave as I've read they shouldn't treat you any different if you're pregnant.

Planning on telling work next week and will ask about the role as I'd still like to do it and we will need to discuss plans for the team anyway.

Good luck to everyone attending their 12 week scans this week. x

laurapalmer22 · 13/02/2023 20:27

Had a wonderful 12-week scan today. Baby is very active wriggling and bouncing around in there. Everything looked nice and normal on the scan and tests came back as low risk across the board. Measuring ahead again at 12+2, which puts my due date to 26th August. It started at 4th September based on the first day of my LMP and average cycle length, so I don't know if baby is growing really quickly or is just huge. Very very happy and excited.

Looking forward to everyone else's 12-week scan updates!

DandelionPockets · 13/02/2023 20:35

@laurapalmer22 sounds brilliant, so glad everything is going so well!!

I've got my scan tomorrow so feeling a little anxious this evening and trying to keep distracted..
