@BCxx Feb can be a great time to go away. Way back pre-children I often used to go away then, usually to the US. It can really liven up that endless seeming dull stretch between Xmas and spring arriving. You can pick up some great deals too. Trouble is, you do need to go pretty far away to be sure of getting some sunshine. Florida, California, Arizona, New Orleans, Dubai and South Africa are all fabulous then.

My long-haul days are sadly over now though and we’ll probably just be doing a few days in Brighton in April when I’ll be 6/7 months.

AnnieApple123 · 18/12/2022 21:07

@Fairylight102 Welcome and everything crossed for you. Glad you were able to get through to someone in a Sunday. Like others here, I’ve also known people who have had significant bleeding, sometimes all through pregnancy. Don’t necessarily assume the worst. Hope you can get more reassurance tomorrow.

AnnieApple123 · 18/12/2022 21:09

Welcome @ohfook Hope you get your positive soon.

Marmaladebear · 18/12/2022 21:12

Thank you everyone for welcoming me to the thread! Love hope active it is - have had lots of messages to catch up on this evening 🥰

@BCxx I think about holidays non-stop lol. We didn't go abroad for 3 years because of COVID and didn't do a babymoon for our first so planning to do one last holiday in about May for just us as a family of 3 before baby arrives. Been loving researching places 😂

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 18/12/2022 21:22

Wow this thread moves fast! Just reading the comments r.e cramping, I’m 6+2 and it has been driving me mad, but I’ve found that drinking lots of water has helped me (helps that I’m only having mild nausea atm, might be harder if I was being sick)

I don’t have any holidays booked before baby (🤞 ) but I am being a bridesmaid in Santorini in September, when baby will be about 6 weeks! No idea how I’ll manage that one

ChloeN · 18/12/2022 21:31

@Desperatelyboredhousewife I was considering a holiday in November but I wasn’t sure if the baby would be too small?🤣 I honestly have no idea when is appropriate to take a baby abroad 😂

Sjw30 · 18/12/2022 21:32

I’d love a holiday! We are thinking early May, just not sure where to go

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 18/12/2022 21:35

@ChloeN my sister who has had an actual baby tells me from 8 weeks is considered ok, as they have had some jabs then. So you should be fine in November! No idea what I’m going to do haha, especially as I’m high risk so more likely to have had a C Section

LMM91x · 18/12/2022 21:36

@Desperatelyboredhousewife omg santorini though how lovely. I’m a bridesmaid end of June which will be fun at what 8 months pregnant ?! Lordy me. OH is best man at wedding on 29th July so will see if I make that one 🤣🤣 then we have another wedding 1 week after due date but I’m not hopeful that will be attended. Bloody weddings !!

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 18/12/2022 21:43

@LMM91x yeah it looks so beautiful, I hope we can make it work! Have a feeling we won’t be able to confirm until baby is here but we’ve already booked. You have a very busy summer! I’m sure people will completely understand if you can’t make it to every wedding, after all no one wants a newborn crying during the ceremony 😂

Recoba · 18/12/2022 21:54

Thanks for posting @TheWeeLittleDonkey, that was a really helpful, reassuring read. Also makes me feel better about not going for an early scan, and trying to be more que sera, sera about it all (somehow managed that quite well with no 1).

AnnieApple123 · 18/12/2022 21:58

@BCxx I’m feeling all nostalgic now for the days of far away exotic holidays and wondering whether we should be more adventurous and plan something abroad for the spring.

PumpkinEverything · 18/12/2022 22:01

I can’t believe how fast this is moving, I’ve just had 5 pages to catch up on 🙈

speaking of holidays, we were at a friends last night and I’d been so busy thinking about how to get away without drinking (so easy as they made slow cooker hot chocolate which I had instead!). Someone asked me had we any holiday plans (because I always do!) and I completely froze and stuttered 🙈 we had paid a deposit for Disney world in Orlando for may but won’t be going now. I’m happy to go on holiday, and I’d go anywhere else, but I won’t be able to get on any of the rollercoasters so it would be a waste of money to us. We’ll rebook for 2024 once it’s released and the 4 of us will go instead!
I think we will try to go somewhere though, probably April/May sort of time. I think once I’ve had a 12 (maybe even 16 week private gender scan) week scan I’ll probably look into where to book.

and for those talking about travelling with kids, do it! Especially when they’re under 2 and free/a lot cheaper 😁

AnnieApple123 · 18/12/2022 22:03

I’ve actually been feeling really bad for my parents as the timing of my EDD means they probably won’t get a summer holiday next year, given that they’ll be needed to help out with DS.

My dad doesn’t know yet. I’ve been planning to tell him Xmas Day. I fear he’s not going to be that pleased.

PumpkinEverything · 18/12/2022 22:10

Aw I really hope they’re happy for you @AnnieApple123 could they maybe go away in June or something instead? Or are you likely to get/want any help from your in laws to allow them to help with your son while they’re away?

sally16 · 18/12/2022 22:17

We've cancelled our holiday for September because going away with one under 1 month and one flight risk 3year old that loves to bolt sounds way to stressful 🤣 we're going to a few caravan holidays instead and cornwall to visit family as always.. which to be fair is like a summer holiday with the heat in summer 🤞🏻🥳

AnnieApple123 · 18/12/2022 22:26

@PumpkinEverything No ILs and no other family in the UK. So we’d be relying on paid help, which I’m open to, but it’s difficult in practice to find someone to cover childcare for a birth.

Mulner88 · 18/12/2022 22:53

@BCxx we are planning a holiday for end of March/beginning of April fingers crossed!! I need to have a holiday before I have a baby as god knows when I'll get on holiday after 😂 we are thinking Croatia or somewhere like that

LMM91x · 18/12/2022 22:56

@Mulner88 oh wow have you been before??? Its by far my favourite place i’ve been in a long time (we did some island hopping this year, it was fantastic and so easy they have shch a good ferry system etc!!!!) absolutely gorgeous you will love it!xx

Amme18 · 18/12/2022 23:00

@TheWeeLittleDonkey thank you for that - I’ve been going backwards and forwards on an early scan and that’s settled it for me - makes sense why they make you wait until 12 weeks and it’s not a cruel punishment 🤣

@AnnieApple123 you’ve saved them an extortionate school holiday priced trip abroad! They could go early July/September. Even Late August really!

Struggled to keep up with this thread today! So sorry to everyone struggling - I find writing down my fears and rationalising them helpful sometimes, or reasons it is out of my control/not my fault etc and the things that ARE in your control (I ate healthy today, I did exercise, I rested when my body told me to, I listened to my body, I took my vitamins). Try and shift focus, easier said than done but fake it til you make it - go through the motions and hopefully your brain starts to get in board too!

Re bleeding, I had bright red blood with my DS, lasted a few trips to the toilet.

Mulner88 · 18/12/2022 23:05

@LMM91x no I've never been but it's been on my bucket list for ages! Our honeymoon got cancelled twice due to Covid so we never really got a proper holiday so want something really nice. DH is not keen on lying about a beach so as long as there is sightseeing etc, he'll be happy 😂

somuchtolearnabout · 18/12/2022 23:36

@Mulner88 Sorry if you already said, but where are you going on hols? And when?

We are going to Dubai for medical exams / choosing school / apartment etc in Feb for a month, then off to Thailand for 3 weeks afterwards. I'll have only just had my 12w scan before we go so that will either make the trip, or the trip will be a nice excuse to get away and forget everything. Both the boys will be coming with us, we have done lots of long haul travel with them and once you get past the flight the rest is a piece of cake. They always take a day or two to adjust to the time zone but we just have a really lapse routine when we're away (which isn't always easy as I am a routine queen with the children at home!)

AnnieApple123 · 19/12/2022 08:52

I’m freaking out about ectopic this morning. I’ve felt something on my left side, although it’s not continuous.

Ironically when I had ectopic fears early on, it was the other side I was worried about.

The worries just never end. I told myself last night that I was going to really make an effort to be present for DS this week but of course now I’m all distracted again.

sally16 · 19/12/2022 09:26

@AnnieApple123 I was convinced for days I had shoulder pain.. I don't think I did as it went away and was like little moments of it.. also got very stressed!
My friend had an eptopic and told me I'd defo know, like the pain was horrendous and she constantly felt like she was going to pass out :(

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 19/12/2022 09:29

@AnnieApple123 I've had twinges mainly on one side pretty much since I found out so I've definitely had the same worries, I even contacted the midwife chat service thing they offer in my area but was assured it's just normal pregnancy aches and pains. I think @sally16 is right, we'd really know about an ectopic! It doesn't stop the worrying though.
