Anyone interested in NIPT, there’s also this one:

Certainly not cheap though.

sally16 · 23/12/2022 16:49

I'm a bit confused with the tests? When I was pregnant with DS I got asked at the hospital if I wanted the DS and something else testing done and I just said no, but it wasn't extra money? Has it changed,

AnnieApple123 · 23/12/2022 17:03

@sally16 There are different levels of screening. The NHS offers a basic one but will then do a more advanced one if you get a high risk result (this seems to be the case in most areas anyway?). If you want to go straight to one of the most advanced ones though you usually have to pay.

sally16 · 23/12/2022 17:06

@AnnieApple123 ahhh! Makes sense! But faster etc too probably!
I'll probably still skip it 😂 id end up more anxious waiting on results then be stressed about the odds even if it's good ones xx

LS888 · 23/12/2022 17:08

I just wrote out a post and the app refreshed and deleted it!

I’ve had my booking appointment today. The midwife said I’m high risk as my mum had preeclampsia when she had my sister (36+ years ago) and due to my age (I’m 36). Don’t like being told I’m high risk - anxiety creeping in. But they are two things I can’t change so not a lot I can do about it!! They have recommended I have aspirin from 12 weeks to reduce the likelihood of preeclampsia. It will be a prescription from the GP- has anyone else been prescribed this?

They also weren’t able to take a blood sample. My veins were not coming out. She even took me to another ward at the hospital to try but 3 nurses there couldn’t do it either. So I now have to go to the GP on 6th for them to try and take bloods. I hate needles so that fact it has been drawn out further is a nightmare for me! I have had a cold and she said dehydration my contribute to not being able to get to a vein. Hopefully they can get some blood out next time!

sally16 · 23/12/2022 17:13

@LS888 I was high risk for the same last time because i was fat opposed to family history, my friend too, from my bloods I didn't need anything but usual check ups and my friend needed aspirin but that was it!
I didn't bother much about being high risk, just meant I'd see a consultant at most appointments and also would be rushed to a bed if I needed the MAU so it was ok!
Can still have your birth plan, they can advise against a water birth but can let you labour etc, so not much is different.. just more consultant presence which isn't the worst thing really xx

Amme18 · 23/12/2022 17:27

@LS888 I was consultant led and high risk last time for having a low lying placenta - meant lots more scans and it moved up by itself at 37 weeks. I was also at risk of gestational diabetes as my dad is so had to have that done (twice because baby was measuring big). Just to say really try not to worry about “high risk” status - it just means an extra eye on you just incase x

LS888 · 23/12/2022 17:37

@Amme18 and @sally16 thanks for your reassuring words! My last pregnancy was a MMC and I guess hearing those words ‘high risk’ bothered me a little bit today. Just a bit unsettling. Any additional support from a consultant can’t be a bad thing I guess!

sally16 · 23/12/2022 17:41

@LS888 I felt more at ease knowing I was consultant led! Your consultant can vary at appointments but they are very blunt so don't mess you about which I like!
Also had to do the diabetes testing twice and it was vile but quick! Could have been worse haha
Apparently they do it different now and there's no drink but just to fast in some areas!

Rowanandremy · 23/12/2022 18:01

@LS888 I was told this time that I needed the diabetes test because of immediate family being diagnosed in the 3 years since dd was born. Plus I’m overweight so the risk is there - not that I enjoyed hearing it (though I had expected it). With dd I had to see a consultant to go over a medical issue I have that could have complicated a birth that needed intervention, we made a plan for a what if scenario and they sent me on my way. A bit anxiety inducing though. With this baby I’m waiting to hear back from my midwife because I have a condition that requires a rheumatologist but isn’t actually an auto immune condition (which sounds more complicated than it actually is!) but the forms needed to be ticked so waiting to see if I need to see a consultant again.

I see it as they are on the ball with everything but there was moments of anxiety about it all - which I think is completely normal.

AnnieApple123 · 23/12/2022 19:06

DS kicked me in the stomach this afternoon while I was lying on the sofa. This evening there was a point when I felt something across my whole tummy area - wasn’t sure whether it was digestive or something more. Shortly afterwards I went for a wee and there was a tinge of pink on the tissue again. More than I’ve had previously although still not a lot. I’ve called for advice and been told to go to A&E this time. Honestly though I’m not sure I can face it on a Friday night this close to Xmas. I imagine it would be full of drinks the wait would be pretty horrific.

Alexandra07 · 23/12/2022 19:08

@AnnieApple123 I come back on Thursday evening. EPU called me, no appointments before Wednesday anyway! They booked.a scan for Friday.

QueenBee22 · 23/12/2022 19:16

@LS888 I was prescribed aspirin on my last pregnancy for the exact same reason as you- my mother had pre eclampsia when she was pregnant with me. I didn't develop pre eclampsia and had no side effects from taking the aspirin. Anything that prevents pre eclampsia I was happy to take as it is so dangerous if not detected in time.

QueenBee22 · 23/12/2022 19:18

Had an early scan today-I am 5+6 but measuring at 6+4. No heartbeat which they said was normal and they weren't expecting to find one. Everything else looks okay. Back again in two weeks time for another scan.

Recoba · 23/12/2022 19:27

@DesertSnow we found it very easy to keep the gender a secret in conversation (would just refer to the baby as "they" or "the baby"). I had a couple of times with the midwife where they'd say "ooh what are you having?" And I was so out of it due to the nausea I'd reply "a baby? Probably not a cat?" Took me a while to realise that they were asking about the gender😅

More difficult was getting second hand baby clothes from friends and them trying to guess the gender from the clothes I picked. But my selection criteria was mostly "things that look super cute" and that was most of them, tbh, so I'm not sure they got much of a read!

Butterflies12 · 23/12/2022 19:39

Hi everyone, after a successful scan two weeks ago dating me at 7w4d, I have started spotting again this evening after having my booking appointment this afternoon. I also have the same crampy feelings as normal but now I'm convincing myself they aren't normal cramps. I can bring myself to call the 24hr number tonight but if it carries on until the morning I will call. I'm a bag of nerves and can't stop crying thinking this will all be over. Has anyone else had spotting at 9 weeks and it's been ok?
I was spotting from weeks 4-6 and have had two scans which both showed everything was ok but can't stop worrying now.

CityKity · 23/12/2022 19:46

@Recoba I would definitely let slip! Especially as DH doesn’t want to know, I’m sure I would give it away somehow.

Catching up on a lot of messages today but did hear some baby name chat. I’ve had a quick search for baby names and it’s so hard! I’ve always liked one girls names but it’s got more and more popular as the years go which has slightly ruined it for me. It’s a shame because my parents aren’t English, and I’d like a name that works in both languages and this one was perfect! Boys names are even harder! I feel like it might be known as ‘baby’ for a long time 😅.

@AnnieApple123 sounds like a rough day. I totally agree a night in A&E sounds like the worst idea ever. I hope you’re doing okay. Hopefully the stomach kick was a lot higher that anywhere that would affect the baby at this stage. I think it’s postive that you’ve had pink spotting before that hasn’t progressed to anything more serious, so I hope this is just a coincidence 🤞

Sjw30 · 23/12/2022 20:03

Thank you to who suggested the baby name app. We haven’t seen anything so far we haven’t already discussed but we’ve had a lot of fun with it today ☺️

We will definitely be finding out the gender!

@AnnieApple123 Hope you’re doing okay xx

@Butterflies12 I don’t have any experience just wanted to say I hope you’re doing okay x

CMG92 · 23/12/2022 20:12

Hi everyone found out on Monday we are expecting our first baby after trying for over a year! Due 27th august. Very excited but also nervous! Had some light brown discharge today I’m 4weeks 5days, is this normal? Congratulations to everyone else on your pregnancies 🥰

CityKity · 23/12/2022 20:16

@Butterflies12 I don’t have any experience to help either. There was a brilliant poster on the last thread who said something so wise which has stuck with me (I can’t remember her name). It was along these lines. There are countless woman who have spotting or even bleeding in the early stages of pregnancy and it’s impossible online to say what the outcome will be, but at 9 weeks you’re more likely to have a viable pregnancy than to not and you should try to hold on to that statistic. She was much more eloquent than that, but you’ve had spotting before and it’s been fine, so right now in this moment the only evidence you have is that in your case spotting doesn’t equal a bad outcome. Please call the EPU in the morning to talk it over and calm your nerves. The mind is a terrible thing and I’ve sure everything you’re feeling right now is heightened due to the stress and worry you’re under. I really hope you’re doing okay.

Butterflies12 · 23/12/2022 20:31

@Sjw30 thank you
@AnnieApple123 I really hope everything's ok.
@CityKity thank you, that was very eloquent and I have read it 4 times! You are right, it's just my anxious brain can put up such a good argument for the negative, especially after a MMC in April.
I will definitely call the epu in the morning and I'm hoping for another scan. But thank you again for your message - that evidence sentence is really powerful xxx

AnnieApple123 · 23/12/2022 20:42

I’m right where you are @Butterflies12 . Also just under 9 weeks and a bag of nerves convincing myself it’s all over. If it helps I’ve just spoken to a midwife from axa who was reassuring and said essentially what @CityKity said. There are many, many reasons women can bleed in pregnancy and lots are insignificant. She’s said to rest for the next 24 hours which is not the easiest timing. I’m thinking I may go for a scan in the morning too.

LS888 · 23/12/2022 20:43

@QueenBee22 thanks for the reassurance- it’s nice knowing that someone else has been through similar. And @Rowanandremy I guess it’s understandable that a bit of anxiety creeps in when it’s all the unknown. Hoping you get the support you need!

@Butterflies12 hope you are ok xx

Amme18 · 23/12/2022 21:00

@Butterflies12 my sister in law is pregnant atm, she had some bleeding at 11 weeks - she’s now 28 weeks pregnant. It happens, it’s terrifying, and you’re valid in feeling anxious, but it is more common than we think, it’s just so hard to focus on the positive statistics when there’s even the smallest chance that’s not you 💔 Thinking of you and definitely call EPU in the morning if you need reassurance x

BCxx · 24/12/2022 01:05

Just back from my sober night out driving and I’m pretty sure they don’t suspect a thing! The topic of babies even came up in the car home and I was asked when we’d think about having another one but I totally shot the idea down and said in another few years 😂 I wanted to say ‘THERES ONE IN THIS CAR RIGHT NOW’!!! My friend got me a bottle of Prosecco as a Christmas present too so they’re way off the scent 😉 night 1 = success!
