@Cat1424 and @ChloeN I was about to say the same about ‘scanxiety.’ I just don’t think there’s an easy solution unfortunately. It’s one reason why I’m erring on the side of fewer scans as I find the wait right before them so nerve-wracking.

@Alexandra07 I’m so sorry this worry is co tonguing for you. Must be so hard, especially with Xmas so close. When are you back in the UK? ❤️

Thanks for the NIPT comparisons. I was thinking SAFE looked the best from that table. However I’ve just checked again and it looks as if all of the three places I’m considering now only offer Harmony (including Birth Company @Jadeelx - this is the only NIPT I see mentioned on their website now unless I’m missing something?). So that decision is probably made for me. Glad you’ve found this discussion useful too @overwork .

Jadeelx · 23/12/2022 12:12

@AnnieApple123 after speaking to the sonographer yesterday I’ve decided to go for Harmony this time, will book it for 2 weeks time!

AnnieApple123 · 23/12/2022 12:21

@Jadeelx I wonder why they stopped doing the others. It does seem like Harmony is generally the preferred option now. I’m going to go for the same as want to stick with Fetal Medicine Centre.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 23/12/2022 12:45

Hi all, so many messages to catch up. Radio silence for me yesterday as I spent 10 hours at A&E waiting to be seen. I was still getting cramps on the one side and some very very light spotting. So after fearing an ectopic pregnancy, GP advised I go to A&E. long story short it isn't ectopic, but I have a cyst on my right ovary which is what has been causing the pain. They did date me at 5 weeks which was a little less than I thought. But it looks good for now and I have a further scan booked with the hospital next Friday to see what the cyst is doing 🤞🏻

BoodifulGoose · 23/12/2022 12:54

@MinnieFirstTimeMum What a wait, I'm sorry :( I'm glad it wasn't all bad news, I hope that the cyst is an easily solved issue and stops causing you pain soon. 💙

Not able to catch up, my mental health is in the gutter since finding out I have COVID and feeling like I've ruined Christmas 😭 I know it's not my fault, but we were supposed to spend it with my fiances family, including his declining health Grandfather.

After losing my Grandma this year and not having had the previous two Christmases with her due to covid I'm feeling like I have completely ruined it this year for my fiance and I feel terrible 😭 even though he doesn't blame me at all.

Due date August, I just done a clear blue and it says 3 weeks plus , says that means 5 weeks- so I booked an early pregnancy ultrasound scan on 7th January, is this too early to detect a heartbeat? I'm 40 and I'm nervous

Chocolotandtea · 23/12/2022 13:02

Awww @BoodifulGoose i feel so bad for you!! It’s not your fault and I think you know that but you’re still allowed to feel gutted.

Maybe you can plan something really special with all the same people you would have seen on Xmas day including your fiancés grandfather, for the weekend after new year. Even if it’s just having everyone to yours and/or going to visit the grandad, that way you still have something to look forward to?

Its about getting together with all the people you love, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be 25th December (although I appreciate that’s normally the easiest day!) x

doughyparton · 23/12/2022 13:14

@Londongirl87 im also wondering when to self refer! Not sure it it’s too early yet? I’m around 12 dpo atm!

Jadeelx · 23/12/2022 13:14

@AnnieApple123 she said they still offer panorama and the safe test, but they recommend harmony mostly because it has a lower re draw rate and since it’s processed in London (round the corner from their office apparently), and they have a good working relationship, quicker lead times they recommend it

somuchtolearnabout · 23/12/2022 14:00

Re: the harmony test, in case anyone is giving birth at Kings in London, they offer harmony as standard for anyone with high combined test readings. I had it with my second son and bracing myself for needing it again (although hopefully not!)

Cat1424 · 23/12/2022 14:22

@sally16 at least you have your appointment date, I haven’t seen a doctor or spoken to a midwife, I just got told to self refer and wait up to 21 days for a call so mine might be into February at this rate 😅

Cat1424 · 23/12/2022 14:26

@LMM91x I’m in the same boat as you, self referred almost two weeks ago as advised by the doctors and haven’t heard a peep!! Hence having the early scan privately. I’ll be 12 weeks at the end of Jan too and I’m getting concerned I won’t have heard or seen anyone by then!

SPR40 · 23/12/2022 14:35

BoodifulGoose · 23/12/2022 15:09

Thank you for the lovely message @Chocolotandtea 💙

I'm feeling a lot less awful now, and we're going to video call them on the day which will definitely help, and will go visit them as soon as I've tested negative for a few days.

we'll miss some of the family when we do visit but you're right, we can just arrange stuff with them seperatly. I think it was the big loss of something to look forward to, as we didn't even decorate this Christmas knowing it was the last year we could get away with it! X

@jjeanii i got my 3+ during the week at 5 weeks there and have booked early scan for 31st December so no 7th January you will be at least 7, maybe even 8 weeks so you’ll be safe enough. Have you been able to work out how far on you are from your last period date?

BCxx · 23/12/2022 16:01

@LMM91x havent heard anything from my midwife either since contacting the hospital to say I was pregnant. Last time the booking appointment was at 6 weeks but I think with it being Christmas and new year mine will be early January now. I’m far more excited for the scan than I am my booking appointment though, it really wasn’t anything last time and was just a list of questions. Same with even the midwife appointments throughout, the proper appointments didn’t really start until 28 weeks when they actually measure your bump and stuff. I got a load of extra NHS scans last time for low placenta and either one or two growth scans after measuring too small. I’m glad I didn’t pay for any other scans as I saw him about every month in the third trimester. Will probably just do the same this time and only book a private one to check all is okay if I don’t get sent for any extras

PumpkinEverything · 23/12/2022 16:13

I think scans are so different for everyone and all pregnancies. I’ve had such mixed experiences!

for my first pregnancy (which ended in MMC), my early scan made me feel worse and I didn’t get any reassurance.

with my second (which resulted in my daughter) I needed to have the first scan for myself as I got pregnant pretty much straight away after my MMC, like had barely had my negative test as it stayed positive for weeks. And I just needed someone to say there was actually a baby in there 😂 so it did help me!

this time I almost think I could have waited until 12, but wanted the scan so it could help us decide if we wanted to tell family over Christmas (still don’t know!). Also because this pregnancy was a bit of a surprise I feel like the scan has made it feel more real for me and now I genuinely feel excited and like I’ve already got more of a bond. So it has given me a boost!

No I don't know as I wasn't tracking my period to be honest this is a surprise. A very welcome surprise

DesertSnow · 23/12/2022 16:27

I've missed so many messages! If I get to 12-week scan with all being well I'll join the FB group as I imagine that's a bit easier! Congrats to any newcomers I've missed.

@MinnieFirstTimeMum I have a cyst that is causing me pain too - glad they're on top of yours, but sorry you had such a long A&E wait.

Take care of yourself @Marmaladebear. Wishing you all the best and hope to see you back here with good news.

I saw there was some chat about finding out the gender and names. I think we'll find out. DH is very keen to - I'd quite like a surprise but do think it might help it feel more real than me, so am willing to concede. I am so convinced it's a boy, and DH and I have two boy names we like. He's Brazilian, so the name has to work for that side of the family too. We actually find girls names harder! We have one, but I'd like to go into the birth having a couple of names in case the name we pick just doesn't 'fit'.

I think someone said they found out what they were having but kept it a secret from everyone (sorry, I can't remember who!) Just wondering how hard it was to keep secret? I would love to do this but think me and DH would slip up and refer to baby as 'he' or 'her' and give the surprise away.

DH's family are coming over today for his birthday and I feel pretty rough after an afternoon preparing food (I never want to see chocolate again). We're not telling them till tomorrow night so am going with 'I'm recovering from flu' to explain my sickly appearance and general rubbishness 😅

Hi all, i think I'm at 5 weeks pregnant now. Feeling slights pains in the tummy area, online searching seems to suggest this is the uterus growing. Also very sore boobs right now. Really wanting to get my scan done. Not sure when to book it for. When is everyone seeing heart beats? Around 7 weeks i think?

I'm 5 weeks and waiting for an early scan next January 14 th so should be 7-8 weeks then , £75 from ultrasound direct . Congratulations

AnnieApple123 · 23/12/2022 16:37

Oh @MinnieFirstTimeMum what a worry and what a wait! I’ve had some ectopic fears too. I’m so glad it’s turned out not to be that.

@BoodifulGoose Sorry to hear you’re feeling so rubbish. Hopefully you can still find a nice way to celebrate and another time to get together with family, although I appreciate it’s not quite the same.

DesertSnow · 23/12/2022 16:38

Yes @BoodifulGoose, as others have said I hope you can rearrange to see family another time. It does suck, but health has to come first and the important thing is getting to be together, whether that's Christmas day or a day in January. Hope you're ok.
