@TheBirdintheCave oh jeez I started at week 6 too and I really don’t think I have it in me to see this through for another 13 weeks!

I did have some ginger tea tonight which helped a little

UsernameNotPresent · 17/12/2022 21:16

Place marking. Working this weekend, and I am emotional mess missing my toddler, feeling pukey, and generally tired. Bring on the holidays.

AnnieApple123 · 17/12/2022 21:16

@Alexandra07 Just replied to you on the old thread about scans and twins.

Only just made it over here this evening. Welcome to those who are new.

I’ve been feeling a little bit sad today that I’m so anxious and not enjoying this pregnancy more when it was so long-awaited and wanted. There just always seem to be things to worry about.

Glad you got a referral @TheBirdintheCave . Hope it comes through quickly for you.

LBF2020 · 17/12/2022 21:26

Sorry there's lots of us struggling with nausea. I've been sipping really cold squash through a straw, which seems to be helping the nausea a bit, so I thought I'd pass it on in case it helps anyone else.

I've also been sucking werther originals which someone suggested on the last thread, thanks for that tip 😊

RebelliousHope · 17/12/2022 21:38

Morning sickness hasn't started for me yet but started at about 6 weeks with my first and got better at about 10-12 weeks. I think for the vast majority of people its gone or is much better by the second trimester so hang in there! It was worse when I was hungry or too full. I got some sickness bands from amazon that go on your wrists and they seemed to take the edge off a little. Ginger nut biscuits helped somewhat.

LS888 · 17/12/2022 22:08

I’ve had nausea for the past few weeks but it has definitely increased the last few days. No sickness at all just nausea. Today we hosted an early Christmas Day with husbands side of the family. When I opened the turkey to prep and put in the oven, I actually heaved and ran to the toilet and was sick. We were planning on telling them anyway but sort of felt we had to explain me being a bit off. Hope it was just a one off but we will see! Also experiencing back pain and wish that would go now too!

BCxx · 17/12/2022 22:22

@LS888 oh no 😂 there is nothing more pathetic feeling than heaving over a toilet, I hate it so much! They might have guessed anyway or thought you had a bug 🙈 We’re going to the in-laws on 27th for a late Christmas and I don’t want to tell them, il be just over 6 weeks I think, really hoping it hasn’t started by then! My sense of smell is sooo heightened which doesn’t help

Rowanandremy · 17/12/2022 23:14

Thank you for the new thread, can’t believe we are on the third one already!

Welcome and congrats to everyone new.

@Chocolotandtea with my dd I was sick from the day after conception up to 13 weeks and then it dropped off abruptly. With this one it’s the same thing, the day after treatment I was very nauseous and it’s not stopped yet 😂 I was only sick once with dd though and that was the day of my 12 week scan, I dared to brush my teeth after eating and I lived to regret it 😂

I'm starting to get excited for my early scan on the 22nd, I don’t think I’ve let myself tap into it because it felt like it was ages away.

is anyone else still getting weird/awful dreams? I can’t remember if they stopped with dd but I’m not having a great time with them at the minute.

Rowanandremy · 17/12/2022 23:16

@LS888 oh no! Sorry you were sick and that it sort of forced your hand in telling people. I can’t even look at raw meat at the min before gagging and bolting out the room! Thank god my wife is insistent on cooking Christmas dinner, otherwise we’d end up with beans on toast or something really simple 😂

Amme18 · 17/12/2022 23:21

My sickness is so up and down! Began yesterday with head in the toilet dry heaving. Today I’ve had a few times of feeling nauseous but not too bad 🤷🏻‍♀️ The tiredness is next level though, I don’t remember being this tired last time?! I’m not sure if it’s because I’m 4 years older and in my 30s not 20s now 😅 or because I have an active 3 and a half year old who likes to wake up at 5.30am. Whatever it is it sucks 😫

I looked at getting an early scan, I SO just want to see a heartbeat so it feels real, I’m 7 weeks but my womb was tilted before and had to have internal scan at 6 weeks when I had a bleed, and the one local to me only does abdomen, lose my money if it doesn’t work so doesn’t seem worth the risk.

Welcome to new joiners and lurkers who have come to light ☺️

Mulner88 · 17/12/2022 23:29

@LBF2020 I bought my packet of werthers originals today and have been sucking away...I find they do help a bit! ☺️I'm willing to try anything and everything to keep the nausea at bay!!!

Chocolotandtea · 18/12/2022 00:26

@Rowanandremy honest to god I have no idea how anyone who already has kids to look after is doing it so hats off to you!! I’ve had a rotten cold the past few days as well so I think I’m overall just feeling terrible but the nausea is definitely the worst.

I have an early scan booked for the 23rd when I will be 8 weeks pregnant and I’m so excited! It’s a surprise for hubby and we normally do our stockings on this day before flying to Ireland to see his family so going to put a wee something about the app in his stocking. Prior to all this sickness I was super nervous about the appointment but I do appreciate that still anything and everything could go wrong so fingers crossed for the both of us.

oh and I had a weird dream last night that I had baby and it was our first night at home and I woke up thinking I had poo’d myself but it was just the placenta which had fallen out so if anyone can verify that’s not what happens, that would be great 😂

Chocolotandtea · 18/12/2022 00:28

@Mulner88 i has ginger and honey tea today made from fresh ginger and it really did help. Normally hate ginger as well but feel like it’s going to be my new best friend

Rowanandremy · 18/12/2022 00:40

@Chocolotandtea we've had a rotten cold too which has gone into a sinus infection for me (I’m prone to them but it’s annoying). My 3.5 year old has been full of energy today and I just had nothing so was near tears. For the first time I’m kind of glad we are sticking with 2 kids, I don’t know how anyone does it being pregnant and having more than one other child to look after. Have you tried travelling anti sickness bands? They are the only thing to make any difference with my nausea with both pregnancies, though this one has been worse for it so they’ve not been as effective.

oooh that’s exciting! What a lovely tradition you and your husband have. That’s the thing with early scans isn’t it? You are so excited for them but apprehensive as well, though I think the first trimester is quite nerve wracking in general to be honest. I’m looking forward to my scan but keep sort of talking myself down a bit, fingers crossed for us!

I am loathing the dreams they are so vivid, yours sounds a doozy. I can absolutely confirm that that doesn’t happen! You’ll deliver placenta within an hour of having baby and I don’t know about anyone else but I didn’t have a bowel movement for a day or two after giving birth - which I was super happy about because I’d worried beforehand that it would be painful (it wasn’t). Hope that helps!

Recoba · 18/12/2022 04:13

Hello to anyone also awake at this hour. I think with morning sickness/nausea for most people it goes away after the first trimester. It can come back briefly in the early third trimester (most of my NCT group experienced a week of nausea or so around this point). From what I remember from Expecting Better, on average people throw up once during the first trimester (though obviously there's a distributing). In my first pregnancy nausea came on very early, started throwing up around week 7, and on the worst days was throwing up 5+ times a day (commuting to London did not help this at all). The nausea finally left for me around week 21/22, and I think I had stopped throwing up around week 19. Sadly tried way too much ginger in first pregnancy and now can't really touch the stuff without feeling ill.

Definitely experiencing super vivid dreams here (though not baby related yet). @Chocolotandtea can confirm that that doesn't happen! Hope you have less experiential dreams tonight!

@Rowanandremy keeping up with young kids can be very full on! DS was in tears earlier this evening because I was too tired to pick him up, so we both ended up on the kitchen floor together. But he's unwell as well, so his coping hasn't been the best recently, and all he's wanted is me. Hoping that as I feel better my energy levels will increase a bit.

Olofsdaughter · 18/12/2022 04:54

@Rachm12
Firstly congratulations! Secondly, this is what I needed to hear, I had an early scan yesterday and it didn’t show a fetal pole or yolk sac, she dated it to be between 5-6 weeks so it may be earlier than I thought, or it won’t be a viable pregnancy.
I’ll try and get hcg blood tests done but I’m going abroad so not sure it’ll be possible. I’ll have to wait for a scan until mid January and I should surely have noticed a loss before then you would think.
I’ll try and stay positive but I’m prepared for the worst.

BCxx · 18/12/2022 07:45

@Olofsdaughter sorry you’re worrying about that. There does seem to be so many things that can affect it and the dates can vary so much. Fingers crossed you get great news next time. Are you away until mid January now?

BCxx · 18/12/2022 07:53

I was having wild dreams before I found out, the day before I took the test I had a dream I took one way too early and it was positive but it was one of those dreams I woke up and for ages I couldn’t convince myself it was just a dream.

I’m not sure how I’ll cope with the hard bit of the first trimester this time with a toddler now. I’m hoping it falls during the Christmas holidays when my husbands off work to watch him but I think the worst of it will be a few weeks into January 😭 He does still have a big afternoon nap so I will just need to have one too if I can. I’m kind of dreading having a big bump again but having him to lift this time, I’m already being a bit careful about him booting me in the stomach as he gets his nappy changed. I’m rhesus negative too so need the anti-d jag if my bump gets bumped so would be best to avoid that!

Recoba · 18/12/2022 08:53

@BCxx me too! Though I thought it was only if baby was rhesus positive that there needs to be any intervention, and they can tell that via blood test around the same time as the 12 week scan? All these things I half-remember from the first time; DS was rhesus negative, so we didn't need to have anything further done -was it the same for you?

Alexandra07 · 18/12/2022 09:03

@Chocolotandtea 😄 this definitely doesn't happen, you will not leave the hospital without delivering the placenta and that happens soon after giving birth.

@AnnieApple123 thanks for your reply. My husband doesn't mind waiting, if the pregnancy doesn't go as expected, his mum will be heartbroken, so we will wait to have a scan and nipt at 10/11 weeks that will confirm how many babies there are.

I am hungry all the time, and I know I don't need the extra calories. When my stomach starts acting funny, I eat, but this is almost every hour! I don't really have any other symptoms and I can't remember when they started with my first pregnancy.

ChloeN · 18/12/2022 09:16

@BCxx @Recoba glad to hear some of you ladies are negative too! I asked when i was booked in for my midwife appt that they’d do the blood test with the 12 week scan. Do both of your partners have positive blood types? X

AnnieApple123 · 18/12/2022 09:35

@Chocolotandtea I’m definitely taking far more shortcuts with DS (2.5) than I ever have done before and am not currently the parent I aspire to be. Hopefully this will improve over the next few weeks as I’m almost 8 weeks now. 🤞

@Recoba and @BCxx yes there’s a blood test now which can tell you the baby’s RhD status so that you can avoid having to have treatment if it’s not necessary - seems like a fantastic new development!

LMM91x · 18/12/2022 09:39

@Recoba ahh I was just going to ask about anyone who’s commuting / commuted into London / on the train. God I’m dreading it. Im 6+2 and if by clockwork my nausea and sickness started yesterday morning (it does ease up substantially after midday though) but now dreading the train to work tomorrow… any tips???? Might have to go sit in the toilet 🤣 its about a 25 min journey and normally get a seat (especially post covid) but imm so so scared gonna throw up . Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

AnnieApple123 · 18/12/2022 09:53

@LMM91x Do you have a ‘Baby on Board’ badge yet? You can start wearing it from now. My old midwife used to recommend them in the first trimester for exactly this sort of reason. I get that it can be problematic though if you bump into someone you’re not ready to tell yet.

LMM91x · 18/12/2022 09:57

@AnnieApple123 yes that would be an issue for me as I see a lot of people on my commute including people I work with who I wouldn’t want knowing yet!!! xxxx
