I've just tested positive for COVID 😭 absolutely gutted that I might miss Christmas but honestly so relieved that it might explain the horrendous illness of the past few days (was being sick upwards of 5 times each day), as I wasn't sure I could cope with that until 12 weeks!!

@somuchtolearnabout congratulations on the scan, what a huge relief that’s it’s all looking good!
I had no idea you could find out gender at such an early stage. How accurate are the blood tests?

Is anyone else not planning to find out gender? It’s our first and DH has always been absolutely adamant he wants a surprise. Frankly I think the act of giving birth is enough excitement for one day so I’m on the fence. He of course is happy for me to find out and not tell him, but I think that’s realistically impossible and I would definitely let it slip which he would be gutted about. I’m not really fussed either way, but not knowing for so long might eventually drive me crazy!

ChloeN · 22/12/2022 13:21

@CityKity we’re not finding out either! I think it’ll be an amazing surprise when I give birth, although I do think it’ll be hard to resist the temptation of finding out 🤣

CityKity · 22/12/2022 13:22

@BoodifulGoose oh no, I’m so sorry for you that’s such a kill joy at this time of year. What does that mean for your Christmas plans? I hope you can take it easy and spoil yourself until you’re better and fingers crossed the sickness will leave once you’re feeling better.

heand2022 · 22/12/2022 13:23

We're not finding out - DH really wanted to know but I really want to find out on the day. I don't want to associate a name with the baby or anything and then when they come I don't think it's a right fit 🙂

PumpkinEverything · 22/12/2022 13:28

Another positive scan here this morning 🥰🥰 I’m 8 weeks and measuring at 8+1 with a good heartbeat and all looks healthy. So excited now!

We’ll find out the gender, and will probably go for a scan at 16 weeks to find out. I’d love to have a surprise but I just feel like I also like to know all the details haha, so I don’t think my brain would let me say no 🙈 quite a few of my friends have left it a surprise though!

PumpkinEverything · 22/12/2022 13:30

And for any newcomers to this thread, if you want to join our FB group here’s the link 🥰 there’s 55 of us so far!

I know some people may not want to join until they’re 12 weeks (or at all which is fine!), so just want to say the group will be kept open for everyone who wants in!

@ChloeN @heand2022 oh great, there are a bunch of us! It seems so much the norm to find out gender that I wasn’t sure many people left it as a surprise these days.
I will definitely have to stay strong at the 20 week mark when the temptation hits, but I’m also really excited about the surprise. My sister found out the gender only to find out they were wrong later in her pregnancy which left her really disappointed as she had started picturing life with a little girl.

@PumpkinEverything I really don’t use Facebook very much at all, so may not join but I hope you all keep us updated here too! Congratulations on your scan, it’s so reassuring to see all of these early scans going well.

ChloeN · 22/12/2022 13:39

@PumpkinEverything ahh fantastic news so pleased for you ☺️

@CityKity yeah I agree most people do seem to find out, we were going to with the mc but this time we’ve decided against it. It’s our first too so we really don’t mind either way!

Mulner88 · 22/12/2022 13:43

I NEED to find out!!! I'm that person who needs to know everything beforehand. I'm so impatient , I don't think I'd be able to wait, but I'll hold out for the 20 week scan if I can 😂 luckily my husband is willing to find out too although think he has no choice 😂

somuchtolearnabout · 22/12/2022 13:54

@CityKity We found out with DS1 and had a surprise with DS2. We both just said the experience of finding out was more enjoyable for us. When DS2 was born, I was just so relieved that it was over I couldn't have cared less if it was a boy, a girl, or a baboon. As long as it was out. But when we found out with DS1 it was such a fun experience, we got to celebrate together and enjoy the news together with no distractions. I've done both so I can absolutely see both sides of the coin - there are benefits to both and it's exciting no matter how you find out!

BCxx · 22/12/2022 14:00

@somuchtolearnabout aww amazing! I was so tempted to do that blood test but then joined the Facebook group and went round in circles about it as the odd person said theirs was wrong. I think most people saying that didn’t get the clinical one but I felt like because I have a boy already what if it said girl, I got excited about that then at the 16 week scan it said boy? I don’t want to end up feeling disappointed so I think I’ve convinced myself to wait so I’m sure it’s right 🙈 It does say 99% accurate though! Let us know how you get on and how quickly it comes back, I might get another early one and do it still 😂

BCxx · 22/12/2022 14:06

@BoodifulGoose aw gutting, such bad timing! I have it too and I felt rotten the first few days but have came out the other side of the worst of it now but literally have no smell or taste at all. My toddler had a dirty nappy earlier and I didn’t know, absolutely no idea. It’s worked out well for the sicky feeling though because before this my sense of smell was so heightened and now it’s just nothing so I’m almost hoping it stays away, it’s better than being sick 🙈 Hope you’re feeling better soon

BCxx · 22/12/2022 14:08

@UsernameNotPresent glad it’s not just me! I think that’s the thing, if I’ve got nothing else to do and can just play with him I don’t care if he’s making a mess or whatever but I feel like I’m just rushing from one thing to another and getting snappy because he’s making everything take so much longer. Hoping to have everything done today and be able to relax a bit by tonight!

sally16 · 22/12/2022 14:24

@BoodifulGoose aw that's sucks!
I've got a horrendous cough and keep testing myself at work knowing I can't have it we I've just literally had covid lol
I just wanna go to bed but I've not told the charge I'm pregnant and I cba with the moaning about my absence lol xx

LMM91x · 22/12/2022 14:32

Just had my scan❤️❤️❤️ all looking perfect very happy 😃 even saw the heartbeat💕💕 measuring a little behind (5 days) but I am not going to worry about that as sonographer was absolutely brilliant and said that was nothing to worry about 💕💕🙏🙏🥹🥹 what a day!!! xxxxxx so 6w instead of 6+5 but heartbeat has absolutely made my day 🥹🥹

Rowanandremy · 22/12/2022 14:36

@somuchtolearnabout and @PumpkinEverything congratulations on your scans today 😁

I had mine this morning and everything is perfect, we got to see the heartbeat and the clinic is very happy with everything. I’m measuring at 7+2 so only a day out of what we thought. There’s only one baby so dd was wrong, not that she’s bothered she’s quite fascinated by the scan pictures.

Re finding out the gender, we’re not having the blood test but my wife is counting down the weeks until we can have a scan and find out, not bad considering she had originally wanted to wait and find out when they are born!

Rowanandremy · 22/12/2022 14:41

@LMM91x congratulations! I measured 5 days behind with my now 3.5 year old. I’m glad you had a good sonographer, ours back then was a bit stone faced.

LMM91x · 22/12/2022 14:52

@Rowanandremy thank you for the further reassurance 🤣 I think it’s so hard this early so I’m going to focus on that little heartbeat!!! I burst into tears😭🥹💕

Mulner88 · 22/12/2022 14:57

@LMM91x I burst into tears too, the sonographer had to get me a tissue 😅 I think it was the relief more than anything that made me so emotional as I wasn't confident of a positive result beforehand

Rowanandremy · 22/12/2022 14:58

@LMM91x its amazing to see and the heartbeat flickering - my wife was near tears and I was just in awe. It hit me a little bit later and then I got teary eyed 😂

Miraclesdohappen88 · 22/12/2022 14:58

Just been for an early scan most nerve-wracking few days waiting for today. Measuring exactly 7 weeks + 1. heartbeat heard and a room filled by happy tears! 8 years later of TTC! Hope everyone is doing ok!
