@BusyBushBaby So glad that you’re feeling positive overall.

LMM91x · 21/12/2022 18:54

@AnnieApple123 hey jumping on to with the questions but when do you get this done?? Is it not an NHS thing that’s why you need to book private?? If you don’t do it via NIPT when do you get screened for DS etc??? Sorry 21 questions to you knowledgable lady!! 🤣❤️

BCxx · 21/12/2022 18:55

@CityKity 😂 it’s brilliant, I’m going to struggle not to laugh while pouring it though. I keep thinking ‘itl be fine after a few drinks’ then remembering I will be the same after a few drinks 🙈 I think the couple who are coming over might slightly suspect I could be pregnant but the second they see me with a drink I don’t think they’d ever for a second contemplate I will have gone to those sorts of lengths to convince them and will just rule it out 😂

Jadeelx · 21/12/2022 18:57

@AnnieApple123 wow, they told me the same with my DS at 10 weeks! I had an appointment with Dr Gibb and he just casually said, would you like to know the sex and I said yes I’m going to find out (thinking at 16 weeks) and he looked at the screen and it was clear what I was looking at!

That’s good to know about the fetal medicine centre.

Havanalily1806 · 21/12/2022 18:59

@Amme18 thank you 🤍 sorry to hear about your Mum that must be really tough for you, but I completely get it, the something else to focus on. This will be the first grandchild so I really hope it can give my family a focus and a new purpose for some really in the future, if that makes any sense

@blondebanana
Thank you, it is tough but trying to appreciate what we have and make it a good Christmas for everyone to remember 🤍
I hope it works! I'm sure it will, I got away with my works Christmas party by being "hungover" and people seemed to believe me so I feel Christmas is a lot easier to navigate than that when I'm hosting.

@marleyandme I haven't tried it yet but reviews of the non alcoholic Gordon's are good! I've got a bottle in to swap into a real one 😂

@BusyBushBaby
Keeping everything crossed for you, I'm pleased you had some positive news as well.

@BCxx I've heard good things about the Gordon's so I'm excited to try! My plan is to get all my exciting flavoured and pricier gin bottles out (I mean I can't drink them now anyway) and hope everyone opts for those... I can then just stick to the "boring Gordon's"

Havanalily1806 · 21/12/2022 19:02

@CityKity just try take a couple of fake bottles in real bottles and stash them somewhere 😂 you can go and pour your glass down the loo and fill it up with the fake stuff!

Luckily I hate any kind of seafood so that won't be weird for my family 😂

@AnnieApple123 thank you for explaining, it's good to know what everything means

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 19:05

@LMM91x The NHS also does screening around the time of the 12 week scan if you want it. Their screening is a bit more basic but, if it shows you’re high risk, you’ll then be offered NIPT. If you want to go straight for NIPT you have to go private.

It explains it all here: www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/your-pregnancy-care/screening-for-downs-edwards-pataus-syndrome/

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 19:09

@Jadeelx I’m not sure I’m ready to find out gender this soon!

I’m thinking of doing things the other way round this time - FMC at 12 weeks and Birth Company at 20 weeks.

Rowanandremy · 21/12/2022 19:13

@BusyBushBaby It’s been said far more articulately than I can manage at the min but I really hope you stay with this group for as long as you are comfortable.

I can’t remember now who said about using scratch cards to tell their family (sorry I can’t remember, my
memory is atrocious at the best of times!), my wife's sister did that to tell us and it was an amazing way to find out, I loved it. I’m kind of sad we didn’t do a grander reveal but everyone would have known really quickly once I started wearing the anti sickness bands - I’ve only wore them in pregnancy before so everyone would have been asking 😂

DesertSnow · 21/12/2022 19:19

So nice reading about different ways people are telling their families. We are doing a secret santa where you have to reveal things about who you have and people guess who it is. My husband has me, so his final clue is going to be 'and she's expecting a baby' 😊

Sorry to hear the scan wasn't 100% positive @BusyBushBaby, but glad you're doing ok. Please don't feel you have to leave the group - I think we're all pretty nervous/anxious but trying to be positive/optimistic.

Amme18 · 21/12/2022 19:21

@DesertSnow I love that reveal!! ❤️

Nik84 · 21/12/2022 19:24

I found out I was pregnant just before Christmas last year and waited until New Year’s Day to tell my parents. It was emotional as it was completely unexpected as we all thought we were done. I felt like a teenager who had been knocked up rather than a married mum of two 🤣 This time I’m going to wait until after my scan before I tell them and my kids. I felt really guilty that I’d told my girls early and then they had to go through the sadness of a loss. I haven’t even told my husband yet, don’t come at me, I have my reasons. I’ll be telling him after Christmas, for now it’s my secret 🤫

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 21/12/2022 19:26

@DesertSnow that is such a good reveal 🥰

Amme18 · 21/12/2022 19:28

@Nik84 no judgement here! Bet my other half wishes I’d kept it from him, he hears about it constantly, I walk around the house groaning and sighing about how tired and sicky I feel 🤣

Sjw30 · 21/12/2022 19:30

I quite like the scratch card idea!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 21/12/2022 19:35

@Sjw30 they were really reasonable on Amazon. And look just like the lottery ones x

Sjw30 · 21/12/2022 19:39

@MinnieFirstTimeMum thank you I’ll have a look. We are hoping to tell close family on Christmas Day so could sneak in into their Christmas presents!

Nik84 · 21/12/2022 19:47

@Amme18 🤣🤣🤣

BoodifulGoose · 21/12/2022 20:19

@BusyBushBaby I'm Sorry it's not looking so good for baby 2 but glad you were able to take some reassurance from your scan!

there's plenty of us here with anxieties and worries about pregnancy/loss and you're always welcome. It was the tone of us being naïve or otherwise for feeling positive that wasn't sitting well with a few of us, but this is still a space for all things pregnancy related, good or bad.

BoodifulGoose · 21/12/2022 20:22

I hope this doesn't come across as a rude question, but I'm just wondering those of you booking NIPT are you over 30?

I had considered NIPT testing but everyone I've told has looked at me like I have 3 heads, and said that unless the NHS scan shows anything I am spending a lot of money unnecessarily, as I'm not in any of the risk factors. I'm unsure how I feel about that but also wonder if my anxiety is getting the better of me in wanting it.

OP posts:
BCxx · 21/12/2022 20:26

@BoodifulGoose I think I thought last time that I would have wanted it but after going for the NHS basic screening I realised there was no need when the risk factors all seemed so low. I’m only just 30 this time so surely not too far over the hill yet to need it 🙈

BCxx · 21/12/2022 20:26

@DesertSnow that’s such a cute idea to tell them all! 🥺

BCxx · 21/12/2022 20:28

Last time we gave both our family’s a Christmas card that had ‘you’re going to be grandparents’ under a scratch off bit on the front! This time I just did the ‘big brother’ top on my son even though it felt way too early to even be contemplating that as a possibility 🙈 I don’t know how we’ll tell the in-laws but my MIL can’t keep a secret so we won’t tell them until we’re ready to tell everyone else too! I think we might just say it this time 😂

DuploMum · 21/12/2022 20:40

Found out I'm pregnant with number 3 today! Already have 2 DS one nearly 3 and one 17m. I'm hoping for a girl! X

Due August 2023 (Thread 3)
Amme18 · 21/12/2022 20:43

@DuploMum congratulations! Fingers crossed for your girl! We have one boy, would love a girl this time, although happy with a healthy baby ❤️ But two boys, if a second is anything like my first, puts the absolute fear in me 🤣🤣
