@LuckyStar511 I registered straight away, but was advised that my first appointment Trent won't be until 10 weeks.

Congratulations!

LuckyStar511 · 21/12/2022 14:51

@MinnieFirstTimeMum ah thank you! It was definitely earlier than that with my first but she’s 15months old now so must have changed 🙈 I feel silly for being anxious to just phone the GP! 🙈

PumpkinEverything · 21/12/2022 14:55

@MinnieFirstTimeMum we went as part of our honeymoon too 🥰 and we also went this year with our daughter when she was 7 months for two weeks 😁 supposed to go back again this May but we’re going to postpone for 2024 and then 4 of us go 😁

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 21/12/2022 15:05

@LuckyStar511 I think it depends on the hospital so yours may be sooner :)

@PumpkinEverything it is the best isn't it, we went for our honeymoon last November and then again this July. We will probably hold off on going again for a couple of years now though.

Rowanandremy · 21/12/2022 15:09

@Amme18 I am struggling with the exhaustion. Im falling asleep at the drop of a hat which isn’t like me, also having the odd nap because I can’t keep my eyes open. I seem to get to around 4pm and I’m ready for bed 😂

I had my midwife appointment yesterday, it was the same midwife as with dd and amazingly she remembered us. Took around an hour which wasn’t all that different from before, I think it was easier this time around because some things were the same when I was pregnant with dd so she didn’t go into too much detail with those questions because it was already on the system.
I had to mention my sickness and aversion to foods and drinks and she wasn’t overly concerned at this stage but did mention talking to my doctor if it got worse and if I wasn’t able to drink much I might need to go on a drip in hosp for a bit. Before getting pregnant I only drank decaf tea, one coffee a day and water. I was sick after drinking tea, water was 50/50 so I didn’t risk coffee. Turns out it’s the milk so I’m fine as long as I have black tea and coffee, I’m just relieved I don’t need to worry about getting dehydrated.

Hi everyone,

I have been lurking on this thread since I found out (almost 2 weeks ago), I have been avoiding commenting because it doesn't feel real at all yet (first pregnancy, 35, 5+3 weeks). But I saw @MinnieFirstTimeMum and @PumpkinEverything talking about Disney World and I had to join in because we have a trip booked for late Jan, when I will be 10/11 weeks and I'm really hoping I can still enjoy a lot of it! I have no symptoms yet but worried that will change and I'll be really sick. I've had a cold for about a week and that has be awful.

I have an early scan booked for next week but that's mainly to put my mind at ease about an ectopic pregnancy or anything super wrong. This thread has been so helpful letting me know how to manage expectations/understand what to expect. I have general health anxiety so trying to stay really chilled out at the moment and not let myself worry about every little thing. Currently I'm the most scared about actual birth because there's so many unknowns. Also how much life will change :)

PumpkinEverything · 21/12/2022 15:23

@MinnieFirstTimeMum dont forget they’re free under 3 👀👀 we’re trying to get the trips squeezed in while it’s cheaper haha. I would still go this May if I could but I need to go on guardians of the galaxy again 😂

PumpkinEverything · 21/12/2022 15:28

@Paperboats oh it’ll be amazing and you’ll def still enjoy it! Also not too warm so more tolerable. I don’t think I could deal with the heat too heavily pregnant 🙈

I highly recommend following the positive birth company if you’re nervous. I bought their course and it helped me so much, and I personally found it very helpful to read lots and lots of birth stories so I knew lots of different scenarios; although all births are different (I have a 14 month old). I would say some people would say my birth was hard and maybe not the most positive but I was open, and honestly have never felt so empowered! Our bodies are just so amazing and I’ve even more respect now for women 🥰. Your life certainly changes, but there’s so much happiness and goodness brought in that it does mostly change for the better, and you do just learn to adapt. I really feel like your child fits round your life and not the other way round 😊 we still do as much as possible that we did in our old lives, just a bit slower and we’re normally late 😂😂😂 and we eat out for lunch a lot more to give her lunch haha. So lots of coffees!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 21/12/2022 15:31

@Paperboats you will have the best time, it really is magical!

@PumpkinEverything good point, I will have to put that idea to the husband and see if he goes for it. Although we love universal and all the big rides too so might have to talk some relatives into coming with us so we can still go on 😂

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 15:33

Welcome @Paperboats . I’m very envious of your trip. That sounds amazing.

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 15:38

That sounds a bit scary @Rowanandremy about maybe needing a drip. Hope it doesn’t come to that for you. I feel like my scare with having ketones has given me a bit of a wake-up call and I’ve been really trying to make an effort to eat as much as I can. Often I’ll be averse to something but, once I put it in my mouth, I find I’m actually OK with it.

I need to book my 12 week scan (which will be with NIPT). I’m thinking I may as well go with 12 weeks to the day which will be Monday Jan 16th.

Rowanandremy · 21/12/2022 15:52

@AnnieApple123 it was a bit startling but I went into the appointment thinking if there was going to be something that was problematic it would be the possibility of dehydration. I’d really struggled to provide a urine sample as I hadn’t been able to drink much that morning. She wasn’t worried about inability to eat as baby will take what it needs from me, to be honest I’m overweight so I’m in no danger of slipping into underweight territory 😂

I’m very glad I have been able to stomach black tea today and a bottle of water so hopefully that continues.

Ive got my scan in the morning, we’re starting to get really excited!

Havanalily1806 · 21/12/2022 15:57

Hi everyone

Jumping back into this thread after commenting thread 1 then lurking away again 🙈 after a CP last cycle just didn't want to get too carried away just in case, however I will be 5 weeks tomorrow, my temp is still up, tests are still positive and I got a 2-3 weeks yesterday on a clear blue so all seems to be going in the right direction this time so far.

Thank you to everyone who replied a while ago when I had asked about arranging a booking appointment.

I have a question for anyone with irregular cycles... my last period date was 10th October, however I didn't ovulate until 1 December, if I put my last period date in with nhs they'll have me wayyyy ahead of where I am at, does anyone have any experience of this and what they'll do? Is it better to just say my period was 2 weeks before I ovulated?

@AnnieApple123 we are also going to be doing the NIPT test, can you do this with this nhs with your 12 week scan or is it just private?

Alexandra07 · 21/12/2022 16:19

@Havanalily1806 you can put that your last period was 2 weeks before your ovulation. I would probably say that to the midwife as well, instead of stressing that baby measures behind!

My hospital will do automatically the nipt if the combined test comes back high risk, I think high risk for them is higher than 1/150 or 1/250, i don't have the numbers with me.
Which nipt test will you do? Looking at the statistics the prenatal safe test looks the best, unless you have twins, but I don't understand why most offer the harmony test. Any ideas?

Alexandra07 · 21/12/2022 16:22

Just to clarify, I was thinking to do the prenatal safe test privately at 11 weeks so I have the results by week 12, so after the 12 week scan I can announce. Even if my combined test is less than 1/250 I'll still want to know, the nipt is more accurate than the combined. Not sure which nipt NHS uses.

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 16:22

@Rowanandremy I was told the same about how babies are parasites and it’s me who will suffer. I’m also really trying hard to drink as much as possible.

@Havanalily1806 The NHS usually only offers NIPT if you get high risk results from their less detailed screening tests. I don’t think any areas offer it as standard? I’m 39 so will be going straight for NIPT privately as don’t want the anxiety of possible false-positives (the NHS risk calculations include age, so you’re more likely to get a false-positive if you’re older if that makes sense).

By the way, watch out for temp charting. My temperature jumped around a lot with my DS after a positive, not at all like the textbooks. There were quite scary dips which meant I had to stop.

BCxx · 21/12/2022 16:22

@Paperboats aw wow, Disney will be great! I’m very similar in terms of dates, 5+2 today according to my app and have a scan a week on Saturday!

This is my second and I feel very nothingy about it just now but at this stage last time I was so so anxious, mainly about the birth. I got a maternal request c-section in the end because my anxiety was off the charts about it and it was the best decision ever so will go the same way this time. I don’t know if that’s why I feel more relaxed this time because I know there won’t be a big battle to get it approved when I’ll get offered it now! It took over my whole life before getting pregnant last time and I spent the whole pregnancy on edge. I was then terrified I’d go into labour early and I’ll probably still have that this time but I can at least enjoy the months before that bit 🙈

I did a mindful birth course for c-section which helped a tiny bit but there are a lot of these types of courses/hypnobirthing on a few of those websites! Just take it one step at a time and don’t be like me last time and let it ruin what would otherwise have been a great experience!

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 16:26

@Havanalily1806 Also yes, I’ve just subtracted 14 days from my ovulation date. My doctor told me to do this last time so I did the same again. Babies were conceived on CD19 and CD21 respectively.

Rowanandremy · 21/12/2022 16:29

@AnnieApple123 I found it reassuring when the midwife said that, even though I knew it from my pregnancy with dd (I struggled to eat for the first trimester) I’d not been worried about dehydration before. Not that it makes it any easier for us 😂

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 16:32

@Alexandra07 I need to look into the different types of NIPT again too. Although I don’t think there’s a lot of difference. I went to The Birth Company on Harley Street last time who offer Harmony, Panorama and Safe. I ended up going with Panorama but can’t remember the reasons now.

I was thinking of going to Fetal Medicine Centre this time (which is downstairs in the same building) as their fee used to include CVS/amnio if you were one of the unlucky ones who needed it. I can’t see any mention of that on their website now though so I guess they’ve stopped doing that. They only offer Harmony. I should call them actually and ask…

AnnieApple123 · 21/12/2022 16:35

Also both places include a scan with NIPT so was planning just to make that my 12 week scan.

Havanalily1806 · 21/12/2022 17:07

@Alexandra07

Thank you! I'll just put 2 weeks before it seems it will make a lot more sense!

Ah okay this is what we had thought we would do, NIPT first and then 12 week scan, we definitely want the extra reassurance. I didn't realise there were different kinds though so will be something we need to look into :)

Thanks @AnnieApple123 I didn't think nhs would offer it unless high risk, we had planned to do this privately too before the 12 week scan. Re the BBT... I am going to stop, it's been quite standard so far, I haven't really seen any dips but it isn't something I planned to do for much longer, at the moment it's just extra reassurance I might give it to the weekend and stop for Christmas Eve 🙈... it's also getting a lot more difficult as I'm waking a lot earlier needing the toilet 😅

ChloeN · 21/12/2022 17:20

Sorry if this sounds totally thick but was is the NIPT for?? When I booked my private scan they mentioned it but I assumed those tests were on the nhs. Is it just a better version of what the nhs offers??

DesertSnow · 21/12/2022 17:22

Hi all, hope everyone's ok and congrats to the newcomers. We must nearly be at the end of August dates now??

Really sorry to hear about your loss @Knov20. Fingers crossed you'll get your rainbow baby soon.

Just wanted to pipe up and say yes, the exhaustion! I'm one of those people who is always tired, but this is something else. Gets to 3pm and I want to crawl into bed 😂Got a busy few days coming up so need to do some serious powering through.

Is anyone planning on telling friends or family this Christmas? Any fun ways you're thinking of doing it?

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 21/12/2022 17:24

@DesertSnow we are going to tell my brother and SIL purely because we always have dinner and then a night full of drinking and shots afterwards so they will know something is suss if I don't reach for the jäger 😂

We have gotten them scratch cards and just said they are a table favour for dinner xx
