@blondebanana congratulations on your pregnancy 😊 I am also pregnant with my first and I've not held a baby since I was young 😂

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 20/12/2022 10:33

Has anybody carried on exercising since finding out they are pregnant? I was running/HiiT the week before I found out. But for the last two weeks I have been too scared 😂

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 20/12/2022 10:33

Congratulations @blondebanana

VickiGo · 20/12/2022 10:35

@MinnieFirstTimeMum wrapping presents was enough exercise for me the other day 😂 felt like a marathon!
I've been walking rather than anything else, the sore boobs say no to any running for me x

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 20/12/2022 10:36

@VickiGo @blondebanana I am the exact same. First time here, wasn't planned. Also was something we had decided we might not pursue. However both excited (albeit shocked).

I have not held a baby since my nephew about 20 years ago. They always look so delicate and I never want to risk hurting them so I normally let my DH hold any babies we come into contact with.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 20/12/2022 10:37

@VickiGo I have still be walking the dogs but starting to get itchy with not doing anything else despite the tiredness.

Haha wrapping presents always feels like a workout. Especially when you lose the scissors or sellotape for the 100th time 😂

LMM91x · 20/12/2022 10:40

@MinnieFirstTimeMum heyyy I play netball and am carrying on until 10/12 weeks (well thats the plan!!) It’s mixed reviews online as to whether you should do something like netball but the general consensus seems to be that if you did it before then carry on! Just don’t start lifting 100kg weights out of no where 🤣🤣

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 20/12/2022 10:42

@LMM91x that is amazing!! Not sure I would have the energy for that.

Same I keep reading mixed reviews, one saying it is fine the other saying it is risky first trimester!

LMM91x · 20/12/2022 10:46

@MinnieFirstTimeMum i mean I probably made that sound a lot more than it is I play socially 1-2 times a week for like 40 mins 🤣🤣🤣

blondebanana · 20/12/2022 10:47

@VickiGo @MinnieFirstTimeMum thank you!! Relief to hear I'm not alone in that! I know - they look so delicate I've always been too nervous to hold them.

I plan on carrying on the same level of exercise and gym, although I know some types of exercises aren't recommended for later on in the pregnancy.

Congratulations to you both!! Have you got any symptoms yet? I've had light cramping over the last few days, which I thought was my late period coming...

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 20/12/2022 10:49

@LMM91x still sounds energetic to me😂

VickiGo · 20/12/2022 10:49

@MinnieFirstTimeMum the sellotape has been my worst enemy this week.. where's the bloody end?! 😂

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 20/12/2022 10:49

@blondebanana I have had none stop cramping and sore boobs.

Thankfully no nausea yet 🤞🏻

Londongirl87 · 20/12/2022 10:50

I feel the same as you all @MinnieFirstTimeMum @blondebanana @VickiGo ! First pregnancy here too.
It was planned and we've been trying for 8 months but I somehow thought I wouldn't be able to conceive so I never so past the 'getting pregnant' mark.
And now that I am here, I have no idea what I'm doing! 😆

And on a different topic, I called my fertility clinic this morning (where we were supposed to do our first cycle of stimulated IUI with Clomid next month) and told them that I have been having positive pregnancy tests. They were so nice and offered me to come in tomorrow for an appointment with the nurse, and a blood test, even though I haven't started treatment yet (and hopefully I won't have to!)

VickiGo · 20/12/2022 10:52

@blondebanana I'm told that it's just one of those things you'll get used to! Not sure I believe it straight away, but I'm sure we'll all be fine 😊
Symptom wise, sore boobs & cramps which I've had since not long before I found out I was pregnant, and also pains I usually get when my period is on its way! I only had a suspicion that I was pregnant because my fiancé opened a packet of wotsits in the car a couple of weeks before I found out (usually my fav crisps) and I told him to remove them quickly, couldn't handle the smell and certainly haven't tried eating them based on that 😂

I usually do pilates daily in the morning, and go swimming once or twice a week too. I plan to keep doing this but since having my positive test on Sunday, I am a bit scared to do anything. I think I'll take it easy until I feel a bit more peaceful.

Sjw30 · 20/12/2022 10:54

@Londongirl87 thats great! I had to phone our fertility clinic too and they were really supportive, we were in the early stages of the referral so wasn’t offered anything but they did say my referral still stands if anything goes wrong. Which I found really reassuring!

Londongirl87 · 20/12/2022 10:59

@Sjw30 Oh I didn't realise you were in a similar case and about to start fertility treatment! Were you going for IUI, or IVF, or else?

We were going private (since the delays where I live are extremely long and to this date we are still waiting for our NHS first appointment) so that might be why our clinic offered the appointment and blood test? (It is all benefit for them since we are paying :D)

It also reassures me to know that if something goes wrong, there is still that option and they will be supportive. It is so early that I haven't told anyone about this pregnancy (apart from my partner of course) so just telling 'I had a positive pregnancy test' to the nurse on the phone this morning made me tearful! It feels a bit more real!

Sjw30 · 20/12/2022 11:04

@Londongirl87 we were going for IVF! Ah yes maybe, we were NHS and have been relatively lucky how quick it’s been compared to other parts of the country. It still took a year and a half once in the system to get to that point, and it felt like 10 years 😅. I just don’t think I’d of been able to face that wait again.

Yes I totally get you I felt the same. It felt so surreal telling them! It all still feels surreal tbh.

Megandhi · 20/12/2022 12:19

Hello ladies

congrats on your pregnancies :). I just wanted to let you know about a private fb group for babies due august 2023. It’s very small at the moment and the plan is to keep it relatively small so that we can all get to know each other and chat through our pregnancies. It’s for ladies in the UK and you can find it here if you’re interested in joining: www.facebook.com/groups/3369368986715868/?ref=share_group_link

if the link doesn’t work, just search “babies due in august 2023 - uk” and it’s the one with the description that begins…”-a relaxed and friendly private space to share with other pregnant ladies in the UK that are due in aug…”

it’s a very relaxed group with no strict rules or moderators having to approve posts, everyone has equal say in the direction of the group.

Hope to see some of you over there :)

all the best x

VickiGo · 20/12/2022 12:22

@Megandhi amazing, just joined 😊

sally16 · 20/12/2022 12:24

@LMM91x the scan was pretty poor in terms of not looking much like a baby but a fetal pole and heart beat but it was nice to see the flickering!
I'm over weight so never get very nice scan pictures until later so wasn't even expecting them to find it haha!

DesertSnow · 20/12/2022 12:29

@MinnieFirstTimeMum I work out 5 times a week with walks on the other two days. As others have said, you can carry on as before, but don't start anything new and nothing too intense. I run 5-6k 3 times a week and have been doing fine. Just listen to your body, it will tell you if you're doing too much.

Also I think I saw you were concerned re. ectopic @AnnieApple123? I too had these concerns after more pain in one side and also shoulder pain. But a lot of googling told me that both pains would have been a lot more intense if ectopic so I decided to wait it out and do something if it got worse which it didn't. Hope you're doing ok.

Hope everyone is ok, and congrats to the newbies! Sorry for any messages I've missed, I took a couple of days away from MN to protect mental health.

I had my booking appointment yesterday and it lasted 1.5 hours for those who were asking about that. Found it quite intense and tiring!

Also... We had a scan last night. I was 8 + 2 by LMP but as I ovulated late in my cycle I was anticipating to be about a week behind that. To my surprise (and delight!) Was measuring bang on 8 weeks. Strong heartbeat too 🥰 We will now tell family at Christmas. They also found free fluid in a couple of places that I'm trying not to Google, as well as a cyst (bigger than baby) near left ovary that they recommend the NHS has a look at. But for now all good with baby so very relieved. The 30 seconds before the sonographer started talking we're the longest of my life - was terrified there would be nothing there/no heartbeat.

sally16 · 20/12/2022 12:42

@DesertSnow congrats on your lovely scan!

Try not too worry about the cyst! If it's a concern to them to keep an eye on they will have you well looked after! I was under fetal medicine last time as I had wayyy too many waters and they were the best team ever!

AnnieApple123 · 20/12/2022 12:45

@DesertSnow Oh goodness yes, those 30 seconds. Just pure torture. So glad all OK with baby. When do you get the other things checked? I know how hard it is not to Google.

As for ectopic concerns, that was yesterday’s worry! 😂 Am onto a whole new lot of concerns now… What you said though is exactly what I was told by EPU. They basically weren’t worried and just said to keep an eye on things and contact them if they got any worse. Which they didn’t.
