Can’t believe we’re onto a second thread already. Hope this doesn’t put any newbies off, as I don’t think we’re even halfway through possible due dates yet. Anyone welcome to join in.

I wanted to start off by reassuring TheBirdintheCave that I have no nausea either and had none whatsoever all through my last pregnancy. Thinking of you and hoping your current fears turn out to be for nothing. xx

@Havanalily1806 where I live like @marleyandme said you have to talk to your GP first, then they give you a midwife appointment (mine is tomorrow by phone), and they book your 12 weeks scan with the hospital. It was very quick for me, I got the date the day after talking to the GP. It seems that it can be very different depending where you live!

About drinking, I also take a glass a wine and pretend to sip it, and if my partner is around he will drink it when people don't pay attention! It has worked so far, I don't think anyone has guessed! I know people would be more suspicious if I was announcing I don't drink because of antibiotics, or driving, or headache... 😅 But that way they don't even pay attention to what I do.

marleyandme · 14/12/2022 19:18

@somuchtolearnabout it's so different in different areas! Mine you can't self refer at all and have to contact your GP who refers you themselves. I didn't have much hope but I got my midwife and scan appointment through within a week so can't complain!

Oh yeah that's impressive then! When are your booking / scan? I got mine through a few days after I referred which I was pleased about as I really just wanted to have that date in the diary. I don't know why it just made me feel a little more in control maybe? I also logged onto badger notes (is that nationwide or do you have no idea what I'm talking about?) and it had all my birth notes from my previous two pregnancies. I'm blaming hormones but I cried for about an hour reading them! It's so true what they say that you just forget everything once it's done. But it was lovely going back over it all

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 19:32

@ArcEnCiel2022 totally agree! Just don't say anything and people just don't pay attention. I don't register what others are drinking either so there could be other preggos around me and I'd be none the wiser

marleyandme · 14/12/2022 19:34

@somuchtolearnabout i know what you mean with the relief it's in the diary! My midwife appointment is January 6th when I'll be 8 weeks, I assume this is the full booking appointment but the letter said its only 20 minutes and it'd be a blood test and they'd talk to me about screening so not sure really! My scan is at the hospital on January 30th so I'll be 12 weeks then.
I've heard of badger notes but don't think it's used in my area, or at least I've not got access yet, will wait and see!
It must be nice to have a bit of experience! It's my first time and I've got no idea what I'm doing 😂 it's probably good that I don't know what's to come though otherwise I'd be worrying about it!

ChloeN · 14/12/2022 19:37

@somuchtolearnabout theyve sent me a login for badger notes too, not that there’s anything on there but still 🤣

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 19:37

Omg your booking and scan dates are the exact same as mine @marleyandme !!! What's your due date? Mine's 11th august at the mo, maybe that'll change though. I think maybe I'm slightly further along than you only because I remember thinking my scan is just over 12 weeks. I've got an early scan next Thursday though when I'll be 7w exactly so hoping for good news 🤞🏼🤞🏼

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 19:40

@ChloeN you can fill in all your details on there and it asks about medical history etc, presumably making the booking appt quicker. That first appt is a right snooze fest, they basically take your blood, make sure you're safe at home and discuss any major risk factors. I went in all guns blazing thinking there'd be some sort of congratulations party for me in my first pregnancy but no, just a cute midwife holding a little cup and telling me to go to pee in it 🙃

LMM91x · 14/12/2022 19:42

@somuchtolearnabout 🤣🤣🤣 you’re kidding … no pregnancy party???? I’m outraged ffs that is bloody deserved!!

marleyandme · 14/12/2022 19:45

@somuchtolearnabout ah that's crazy! I'm roughly due 9th August but I think I'm a bit behind that as it's based on an average 28 day cycle as I'd only had 1 since coming off the pill and I think I ovulated later than CD14 but we'll see!
So exciting for your scan next week, fingers crossed for you 🤞
I thought about booking one around 8 weeks but I think we've decided to just wait for the NHS one now.
So funny hearing about your first appointment, I'm a bit nervous of the blood test as I've never had one before so that's helped my nerves 😂 I'm sure it'll be fine

AnnieApple123 · 14/12/2022 19:51

@Recoba and @ChloeN I’m also a non-drinker, so thankfully not attracting any attention at the moment. Everyone is used to it by now and I don’t get nagged anymore.

Hello and congrats to everyone new, sorry I'm not mentioning everyone specifically - I'm struggling to keep the pace with this thread 😂

I'm so sorry to everyone who has suffered losses and everyone who is, for whatever reason, worried they are going to lose.

@AnnieApple123 re the COVID jab, I want it but can't get it. Well I can but every year it's difficult. I need the astra zeneca because I have, quite, severe allergies and that's deemed the safest for those with allergies. Problem is getting it isn't easy at all and every time is a new hoop I've got to jump through and this year I waited so it didn't potentially impact fertility treatment and now it's a bit too late to get it. So next year it is, if I can find somewhere that does it 😂

I'm another one who has food aversions, raw meat being a big one - can't stand looking at it.

Is anyone else's pregnancy bloat quite... Big? I don't remember it being this noticeable with DD but I look very pregnant and I'm only 6 weeks.

AnnieApple123 · 14/12/2022 20:04

@Alexandra07 Ah, another with hypothyroidism! I had a blood test as soon as I found out I was pregnant which ended up being only 3+5. My level was a near perfect 0.97 so my dosage hasn’t been changed so far. I was a bit surprised as it was increased quite a lot in my last pregnancy which it seems is much more typical. I used to alternate different dosages on different days like you’re doing. I’ve been a bit paranoid that the first test was too early for much to have changed which is why I’ve been keen to get the next one done ASAP. I have an obstetrician appointment booked next week at 8 weeks as I’ll be consultant-led all through for several reasons.

Omg I think all my motivation and drive has got up and left! Send help!

I have a 2 Yr old and a part time job, and beyond that and the housework I can't be bothered to do anything at the moment.

Can't go for a run because the exhaustion has set in now🤦‍♀️ and it's mega icy outside. So I feel bloated and fat already 😭

i also have a small business making silver jewellery. I've done all my commissions and craft fairs for the year but still can't be bothered to event make any new designs for fun.

Anyone else feeling like this? I hate it!!!!!!!

AnnieApple123 · 14/12/2022 20:11

@Createcomet Yes me! I’ve been housebound with 2.5 year-old sick DS all week. The ice here makes even just a short walk around the block quite lethal. We’re all out of routine and I can’t even find the energy to tidy up as I know he’ll just mess it all up again in a flash. His current fascination is ‘making trains’ which essentially is lining up objects all over the house so it’s like an obstacle course for me to trip over. (Those without any DC yet - sorry, I’m making this sound very attractive, am I?! It’s wonderful really, I promise!).

In short, I’m not even managing small child plus housework at the moment so you’re way ahead of me!

@Rowanandremy I am the same! I think I am so bloated people know already I am pregnant! 😄 I will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Schools break on Friday, I am a teacher, after Christmas I'll tell everyone I ate a lot and hopefully they will believe me and will not dare to make a different comment!

@AnnieApple123 glad I have someone to chat about this here! with my first pregnancy I increased my dose much later, maybe at 20 weeks? Now the British thyroid Foundation recommends to increase immediately the dose by 25-50mcg per day and test every 4-6 weeks. That wasn't the case 5 years ago. Maybe you have seen it already: www.btf-thyroid.org/thyroid-disorders-in-pregnancy#:~:text=As%20soon%20as%20you%20know,immediately%20by%2025%2D50mcg%20daily.

TheBirdintheCave · 14/12/2022 20:17

@AnnieApple123 My son was shrieking with laughter this evening because I dumped some fresh laundry on his head when his dad was changing his bum. The crazy little goblin loved it and kept saying 'Again! Again!'

Toddlers are hilarious 😂

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 20:18

@LMM91x I considered writing a strongly worded email to be honest.

somuchtolearnabout · 14/12/2022 20:23

@Createcomet Netflix has been babysitting my boys this week to be honest, it's literally the only way I've been able to survive. Luckily my mum is a massive help, she has one on a Monday and overnight and the other on a Tuesday and overnight, then they're at nursery Thursday / Friday (when I normally catch up on errands, but I'll be sleeping this week instead!) so actually the only day I have them both together is a Wednesday and the weekends (but my husband is around then) so I really shouldn't have much to complain about, but I can always find something 😂

The 3yo just wanted to play puzzles all afternoon and it was taking every single bit of brain power I had left just to put together a peppa f*cking pig puzzle. I just feel DRAINED.

LMM91x · 14/12/2022 20:24

@somuchtolearnabout i mean is there a trip advisor for midwives?!

The ice is so frustrating isn't it? I find it very hard to settle into any sort of routine when I'm pregnant. My brain is constantly like "well, apparently it's Christmas and then I'm having a baby next year so why am I even bothering trying to plan things" 😭🤦‍♀️🤣

The toddler train sounds relatable! I spent my sons whole swimming lesson last week being kicked in the stomach. Just what I need 🤣🤦‍♀️

QueenBee22 · 14/12/2022 20:30

@ChloeN thanks the dates are from the fertility clinic so I'm assuming they are accurate! Hopefully I'll hear a heartbeat if not I'll be spending the following 2 weeks worrying until the 8th week scan!

Jadeelx · 14/12/2022 20:34

@Amme18 your statement about being nauseous but needing to eat to keep it at bay but being bloated and uncomfortable, that’s me!! I feel so sad and miserable I don’t want to move, anything seems to intensify it. 🤢
I’m grateful im not throwing up and unable to keep things down, but I just wish I could get a bit of rest. 😞 it’s all day long

Amme18 · 14/12/2022 20:47

@Jadeelx same! I don’t remember it this bad with my son, it’s literally all day and I’m SO tired!! Same with intensifying it too - if I move it gets worse. I hate feeling sick when I don’t know how to take it away. I’d rather throw up every morning and that be it! I think I maybe forgot how rough this first bit can be 😅

Ah bless you! It's tough isn't it? I always think there's this idea that women just carry on as normal when pregnant, so I feel really guilty that I feel exhausted this early. I feel better than I did with my first I think, but it's early yet! And also I think I'm having to do more because I've got him, whereas before I had the option to rest so I noticed how rough I was feeling as I had fewer distractions if that makes sense?

Omg the Peppa pig puzzle is relatable 🤣 I'm brain dead atm. I keep getting halfway through sentences and then completely forgetting what I'm talking about. I generally feel like someone has wiped out half of my brain cells.

sprollie11 · 14/12/2022 21:12

Hello all, may I join? I’m pregnant with my first, will be 7 weeks on Friday, think I’m due 5th Aug. Feeling a little nauseous but not too bad (yet!) and feel quite tired. My boobs are big and sore, and I feel like I’ve put on weight already - I’m struggling to zip up my winter coat 😭 anyone else experiencing this? Excited for the journey, and have been on a learning journey already as I’ve been struggling with stress/taking on too much at work/study and am having to learn to say no to things to look after myself. Feeling like I’m slowly getting the balance right 🤞
